While a good movie filled with many homages to super hero stories, it all seems so predictable or rather trite.
Trite, but still entertaining (if that's possible).
I liked the movie, but it is by no means complete and utter perfection.

This is a decent movie but nowhere near the calibier of Brad Birds "The Iron Giant", which is a true classic or any of the other Pixar films. "The Incredibles" suffers from "homage-itis". It tries hard to give a clever nod to 60's action films of the past, (which the first "Austin Powers" did better), and it's superheroes are better suited in the Adam West Batman show. Don't get me wrong. It's still an enjoyable movie with some great moments. (The whole scene with Elasi-Girl desperately trying to call off the missles, pleading that she has kids on board.) I do hope that they leave this movie alone and don't try to cash in on it like they seem to be trying to do with Toy Story. A fun one off film, not the start of a franchise.
7.0 out of 10.0
Does it have cheesy moments? Is it predictable? Do I care?
Less than 5 minutes into the first time I saw the movie I leaned over to whomever I was with and said, "I'm buying this the day it comes out on DVD." Saw it in the theater 8+ times, and I'm not even going to try to guess how many times we've watched the DVD.
10 out of 10 - one of my favorite movies of all time.

GENIUS GENIUS GENIUS!
Disney and Pixar have done some good movies (Toy Story I/II, Finding Nemo) but the best is definately The Incredibles. Sure it had predictability and cliches, but it looked at super heroes from an angle no one had seen. The only thing they could have done better is if there were more super-powers.

...but it looked at super heroes from an angle no one had seen.
Really? :) What angle was that? The family as superheroes angle? I'm pretty sure that the Fantastic Four has spent the past 40 years doing that angle. Super Heroes who are banned by the government? See the history of the JSA. Dysfunctional super hero family? See again, FF. Or several Astro City issues. Heck, even Spider-Girl does this one. lol I'm not looking for a fight here. I just don't see how anyone can say this movie is anything but what it is. A fun film? Certainly. Entertaining? Sure. But a film that is destined to become a classic? Naw. It just doesn't have the emotional depth as many other recent animated films that you can compare it to.
This is a solid movie as far as I'm concerened, and one of the best animated pictures I've seen in a while. I get what Dumas meant. The "new angle" isn't the family, your right, that has been done, but it's the life outside or superheroics. The family when they aren't fighting but being a family. I think this deserves a solid rating.

Well then it was a familiar angle I hadn't seen in action.
And which recent animated film(s) had emotional depth?

A great script, good voice acting, and great animation. This is Pixar's best film. The Incredibles was a Super Hero movie done right. It only got better with 'Jack Jack's Attack' on the DVD.
I give it a 8.8/10

Any one of Pixar's previous movies has more emotional depth to it. I also mentioned before, The Iron Giant. Heck, even Shrek 2 has more emotional depth. Again, I can't say often enough, I think this is a good, fun movie. I'm sure it will be enjoyed by many down the road of time. I just don't think it's destined to be considered a classic in animation which ratings of 9 and 10 would suggest it will be.
Ive gotta say, I love superheroes and I love animated films, and I think this movie did a great job in combining the 2 to make for one great and very fun film. Is this my favorite CGI film, no (Id have to say Toy Story is myself), did I like it heaps more then the Shreks films we all seem to hate, no (and honestly dont know why that film got such a dismal rating with all of us), but this film did the job for me. A cool super villain (Jason Lee is always a crowd pleaser for me), a cool storyline, and well done "acting" with those within. Again, I dont see this as my favorite CGI film, nor do I think its vastly better than several other CGI films Ive seen, but this is a very cool and fun flick which I myself enjoyed very much.
The Incredibles - 8.75 (and Im probably giving this a bit of a boost being so much into animation and superheroes at that)
I absolutely love this film and will rate it a 10 at this stage. Not sure if it's a bit too recent a film but at this stage I don't feel like knocking it down just because I may not like it as much in a few years' time. I love all the characters, the story, the various action sequences and the humour. Doesn't sag for me at any point in the movie and is, for me, a real animated feature - using animation imaginately to do the impossible/incredible without being too focused on creating beautiful CGI with realistic motion captured movements. It just seemed like a breath of fresh air to me and I have seen it many times without the enjoyment fading.
Thought Id try something different and catalogue our already reviewed films (as in the bottom of each first post of a new film) by genre. Theyre still in order of rating and number of members who rated is still next to the film. Just thought this would be a good way to see where each one lies in their genre (though these films should be rated As A Whole, and not just in their specific field here), and we can also see if weve had more of one genre than another, and maybe throw some more films in the lesser areas to compensate. Thanks all.

Hmmm.....I did like this movie, but I actually preferred Finding Nemo...I think,...Hmmm I actually need to think about it. I mean its obviosuly great for us guys being super fans and all, And it did have great characters and one liners....I just feel no motivation making me want to see it again...And I own it on DVD..so hmmm.

I love the heck out of this movie. Great animation, genius score. The theme of resisting society's push to deny what makes you special so nobody else feels bad about not being able to do what you can really resonates. Does it draw on a lot of things for inspiration? Sure, but it feels fresh.
I call it a 10, just pure cinematic joy.

7/10.
It certainly is a fun movie, but not extraordinary IMO.
Put me in the camp with those can watch this repeatedly. I enjoy this movie. Really Really enjjoy this movie.
the soundtrack works well, the animation works well, there are enough "grown-up" jokes in there that that it's not just a kids animated movie.
as a matter of fact, I like this movie so much I may go home and watch it tonight, I like it that much. I haven't seen it in over a month..... time to fire up the dvd player.
I like the DVD extras too.
It probably wouldn't get as high a rating among non-comix readers.. but I'm not a non-comix reader;
9.5 all.the.way.

Mr. Incredible: Look, kid. I've signed every scrap of paper you pushed on me, but this...
Buddy: Don't worry, you don't have to train me or anything. I know all your moves, crime-fighting style, favorite catchphrases, everything! I'm your number one fan!

I liked Incredibles a lot. It's not a 10. It's not even Pixar's best. But it is very good. Funny at several levels, something for all ages. Plenty of tongue-in-cheek nods to the comic-book-fanboy community. And yet, there was depth. Characters that were beliveable, that developed. The humor stemmed from their interaction, not off-the-cuff jokes. (Well okay, there were plenty of those too).
I'm going 8.5 of 10.
Sure for us comic book fans the movie had some familiar moments, but as far a superhero movies go, this was by far one of the best. If live action movies could have scripts this good and this tight, with such a great balance of action, drama and humor, those movies would do $300 mill at the box office too.
10 / 10
I gotta give this movie a 10.
How can you not?
The Incredibles was made as an homage to the Silver Age Fantastic Four and marketed towards our kids. I'm not a kid anymore, but this movie made me feel like one again. Thumbs up!
Great movie. FroZone was hilarious!

This was a very fun movie and actually had serious undertones for those willing to watch for them. The relationship between Mr. Incredible, his wife, and the kids was done extremely well (as someone earlier mentioned, Elasti-girl pleading to call off the missiles being a great example). I went with a large group of friends for a midnight showing of this flick and it was so much fun. That's definitely how I recommend this movie: with a group of friends.
A nice solid 8.75/10

The angle might not be new but the FF hasn't really been doing it since their debut. For most of their long history, Reed and Susan have not acted like husband and wife. They live with their brother-in-law and a close friend. The hot-headed brother-in-law and self-pitying friend just seem to be there for diversity of superpowers and melodrama. Then there's the son Franklin. He seems to be an occasional plot device rather than a member of a family. It's hardly surprising that St. Dumas didn't immediately make the connection.
I agree with the rest of your assessment. The lack of emotional depth doesn't have much of an impact on the film because it's busy paying homage to the superhero genre (FF) and providing fun and entertainment to the viewer. :)

very entertaining movie, excellent animation, and I was genuinely surprised when violet failed to make a field around the plane and it exploded. Mad props to Elastigirl for creative use of powers, the manhole slingshot and motorboat were really original. I give it a 9.25 out of 10
