So, our next film, Classic or Crud, Hit or Miss, what say you ALL?

Our next film open for discussion, and ultimately an Overall RATING by you all:

GOOD MORNING VIETNAM
5GHvgi_Rz2Y

Let the discussions flow. Likes, dislikes, classic film or overhyped trash, and DONT FORGET to place an Overall Rating when youre done.

Its easy, just give a Rating from 1 (Jaws 4:The Revenge) to 10 (Jaws), and thats it. Course I'd love to have you all give reasons as to why you feel it deserves this Overall Rating, and more than encourage discussions with us all about them.

So, what say you all?

Next Film: ??????

Not the greatest of movies. It wasn't that great when it originaly came out and time has not been kind to it. I think that's true of almost all Robin Williams films from the 80's. The movie was mildly amusing but so many other films have come since then that have been better. You can't say it's a great comedy, it isn't a great drama, nor is it a great war film but it wants so desperately to be all of them. For a better Robin Williams film, try "The Fisher King" or "Aladdin". For a better Vietnam war movie and better drama, "Platoon" and if your looking for the best comedy about the Vietnam war, then there is none better than Robert Altman's "M*A*S*H*".

5.0 out of 10.0

I'd rate it a bit better than that. Admittedly, it's been a while since I've seen this one, but my impression of it is that it was probably around a 7 or so. It was a Robin Williams vehicle, and it's always fun to watch him let himself go, but I will agree with Logansixx that it's not his best.

Yeah 7 of 10 sounds good.

I actually really enjoyed this film. It was serious enough that you knew you were in Vietnam, but certainly funny enough to get what this movie was about. A guy who knew that the troops fighting there needed something more than just Perry Cuomo, but needed to LAUGH, and Laugh at anything and everything they could, no matter how crazy it was or how many High Up people it upset. I thought Robin Williams did a great job, playing both the serious and comedic roles, and when he was rolling, he was Rolling (and I was rolling with laughter as well) Not a classic mind you, but a very enjoyable film that I definately enjoyed very much.

Come now, I know Good Morning Vietnam isnt Star Wars or ET, but surely more than 3 of us have seen it and can comment on it here. :)

Wrong!!! Full Metal Jacket is funnier than M*A*S*H. (at least the first part is)

regarding this movie..... I remember all the hype about how good it was supposed to be etc and then I went to see it... I was non-plussed.

I didn't care for this movie at all!!! I don't know if it was seeing this movie that did it but I have been really put off Robin Williams ever since ugh.
I hear the way he says 'Gooooooooooooooood Morning Vietnam" and I cringe.

Technically MASH is about the Korean War, but I suppose the jokes can work for either one. I thought this movie was pretty good, but not amazing. Robin Williams was funny the first time I saw it but I think it doesn't stay as good as time goes by. I'll go with 7 out of 10.
