Let the discussions flow. Likes, dislikes, classic film or overhyped trash, and DONT FORGET to place an Overall Rating when youre done.

Its easy, just give a Rating from 1 (Jaws 4:The Revenge) to 10 (Jaws), and thats it. Course I'd love to have you all give reasons as to why you feel it deserves this Overall Rating, and more than encourage discussions with us all about them.

Wow, this has been up for 3 days and not a single rating for it? Surely loads of us have seen Rocky. You know, "Yo Adrian", one of the most popular boxing films ever, classic underdog movie, won best picture as well. :)

Rocky, the classic film about a low level boxer with a heart of gold, a will of steel and a head of stone, that has become one of the All Time classic Underdog films of cinema. A character rising up against all odds to battle a seemingly unbeatable foe, and coming This Close to achieving his goal in the end (personally I enjoyed the fact that Rocky lost to Apollo in this film, as it made the ending quite unexpected) The story (written by Stallone) was simple enough, but included enough complexity to give all of the characters within plenty of depth. The mousy little Adrian who eventually managed to become a strong, confident woman with Rockys help. Her brother Paulie, a no nonsense character who will eventually do the right thing in the end, after several times of screwing up and making a jerk of himself. Apollo Creed, the very charismatic and too over confident boxing champion, who learns in the end not to to underestimate the Italian Stallion. Mickey, the gruff and grumbling trainer who took all he had and helped make Rocky a true force to be reckoned with. Not to mention the music, Bill Conti helped create one of the classic movie themes Of All Time in this film. Great story, acting, music, characters, pacing, and directing, its little wonder why this movie became so popular and spawned several not too bad sequels as well.

Rocky - 9 / 10

I concur. Rocky is one of those honest & sincere characters with a big heart who sets out to achieve his goal against the odds. Forget about those motivational tapes, just watch this film and you'll feel like you can take on anything.

9/10

It's funn y, everyone remembers this movie as a boxing movie. And that has it's points. But if you really want to open your eyes, look at it as a love story. A lot of the emotion of the story stems from the Rocky-Adrian relationship.... and Pauly, Mickey help it along.

Watch it again and see if I'm right. You've got to watch it to catch all this boring romantical-type stuff what gets in the way of the boxing.... but it's there... and in spades.

I agree, the soundtrack is exceptional and the entire movie is uplifting. Stallone got it right.

The wife just bought the boxed set for me, recently after watching Rocky Balboa- (Rocky 6)
The movies form an interesting cycle. Rocky the original is all about heart, and while in many ways cliche- the feelings it creates, and the music, the characters just suck you in. You can't help but root for Rocky.

9.25 for keeping you interested, and creating a love story/boxing movie that both sexes can sit through.

I just watched this again not too long ago, and it amazed me how well it holds up, this is a great film. It is so strange to me that with such an amazing debut, Stallone was never to come near the same level as a writer or director again. Cop Land was good as are a lot of the Rocky Sequels but the original Rocky was an Oscar worthy film in a time of truly great films.

9.25 out of 10

You do know he didnt direct Rocky, right lennie? (though he did write it, and give up all of his money to do so in order to secure him a spot as the star - good decision)

9.25, Stallone was an actor in this movie, also in Rocky Balboa. Between the 2 movies, he was not an actor.

Actually, I never thought the Rocky movies were movies about boxing. The first one definitely focuses on the love story between Rocky and Adrian, but it's not the way I see it either.
Rocky movies are almost comedies to me (which doesn't mean I don't like them), they're all about fun. I've never been able to consider them serious movies (and I hope I don't offend those who consider they are :nervous:).
Despite of this second degree viewing of the movie (or maybe because of it), the first one is my second favorite of the series: Stallone perfectly plays his role, the music is great, and it's freakin' funny to watch. Apollo is a great character also, and he is a great "villain" for Rocky. And the way Rocky and Adrian conquer each other is absolutely hilarious.

8/10.

10 out of 10. One of my favorite movies, and if it is not as technically excellent as Godfather I like it more as a more uplifting story, which is something we all need from time to time.

9/10 A classic solid movie, even if I have a really hard time going "ack ack ack" after every time Mickey speaks. He'll always be Penguin for me.
