Hello,

This is The' Le (pronounced Tay Lee). I did all the layout and and look+feel of Critical Hit. I can honestly say that each month Critical Hit just gets better and better.

We hope you enjoy Issue #5 as much as we have enjoyed putting it together for you.

In the meantime, feel free to use this thread to sing our praises, or burn us in effigy.

Seriously, we'd love to hear feedback from you all! Let us know which articles you liked, and why. And feel free to do the same with articles you did not like.

Trying to get them all out. Yahoo only lets me do so much with some. I also get quite a few Mailer-Daemon failures. If you don't have the magazine by wednesday PM me with your address and I will see what is up (hard for me to do when I am doing the MASS email).

Also, be sure to check your Bulk/Junk File

hey rock one little typo...in just say cheese, it says for barrier you must have line of sight to each barrier marker. This is inncorrect. Although all must be in range, only one has to be within line of sight.

Actually, not a typo at all

BARRIER (optional): Give this character a power action. This character may create up to 4 squares of
blocking terrain anywhere within its range. Place up to four barrier terrain markers on the battlefi eld. Each
barrier terrain marker must be adjacent to another barrier terrain marker created by this character. These
terrain markers remain in place until the beginning of your next turn or until the power is countered or lost.

The key is this: This character may create up to 4 squares of
blocking terrain anywhere within its range

You can not go beyond your range when creating the barrier.

I agree with that Rock...what Im saying is not all 4 have to be in line of sight...As long as all of them are in your range and touching it is fine, but only one has to be in line of sight

EX (B are barriers and W are walls) X can place a barrier around the walls as long as they are in range, even though X Doesnt have line of signt to all of them

The key is "anywhere within its range"

Because of this you only need line of sight to one of the barriers not all...as long as all 4 touch and they are not placed on hindering or blocking terrain. I never said that barrier tokens could be placed outside ones range

One note I saw, one the Wildcard Barrier team on page 21, it has LE Talisman using Thunderbolts, however the LE does not have the Avengers TA. You could use the E instead I guess. Great job on the magazine though... I look forward to each one!

A decent effort this time.

(btw, thanks for making them available for download, not everyone's mailbox will tolerate the subscription)

One thing I'd like to have seen: Fastball Special deserved a little more explanation about ALL the reasons it is a pathetic excuse for a feat...and BOY ARE THERE A LOT. It needs this, if, for no other reason that we could once and for all point out all the flaws that went into into it, and how to avoid such mistakes in the future.

Personally, I would have like to see a re-written 'home-brew' version of the feat, to make it a little more playable.

Here's the reasons I can think of that make the feat STINK so bad:
It gives a POWER (limiting types of attacks, and requiring Line-of-Fire) action to BOTH figures that use it (chewing up an extra action!)
As a RANGED ATTACK, it is subject to nullification by BATTLE FURY.
It gets assigned as part of the force to particular figures...several teams (most notably MASTERS OF EVIL) could easily build a 300 point team that could throw each other around!
The feat gets tossed after use!

For the most part you are not going to see me EVER put down wizkids within the magazine. I like the feat though and wanted to demonstrate how to use it, not really go into detail about it. Granted, what is an X-men magazine without fastball special?

Hey all, the price guide still needs updating and will be updated soon. I would use it as a mild tool for now if you are using it in trading. The market is TOOO turbulent to really nail things down for long.

Also, I have gotten a few NEGATIVE e-mails/PMs and have to say it is not appreciated. If you don't like the magazine that is fine and I am happy to listen why. HOWEVER, I did ask that ALL feedback be left in the appropriate areas.

Personally, I don't think its "putting down" WizKids to accurately describe the difficulties inherent with the feat....I thought that article was a total cop-out by ending with the 'suggestions' that the points might be better spent on a medic or a con artist...but no real reasons WHY the points are better spent in such a non-theatic way.

Maybe the name of the magazine ought to remove the "critical" from the title?

Yeah, the mods were amazing. The comparative shopping addition is nice too.

I also especially liked Terrance Allison's article on fixing flight stands. Terrance, if you are reading this, PM me. I had a solution to a flight stand issue you might want to incorporate in part II.

Thanks! I can honestly say that I absolutely love doing the layout for this book. I have laid out and published over 45 D&D/d20 books, and none of them are nearly as fun as Critical Hit.

It is really alot of fun. The slow part is actually handling all the images. I have do alot of cropping of and modifying of them before inserting them into the master document.

I have to say something to get it off my chest. The nit-picking is getting to me. There are going to be simple mistakes in EVERY magazine and I apologize for the ones found here. However, people are not taking a few things into mind with what this magazine is.

For one it is a FREE magazine, no pays anything, it is a choice to read it. I appreciate all the readers and hope to keep everyone around.

Secondly, the magazine takes quite a bit of time that I personally have precious little of. Between real life responsibilities and finding ANY personal time it is sometimes hard to keep the magazine on deadline.

I apologize for the mistakes in the magazine and implore you to please post them on this thread if you find them so that we may discuss them as a group. Though, if the complaints keep rolling in I just may have to find the magazine to be a lost cause and I would prefer not to do it. I feel there has been more negative as of late and it is severely getting me down and frustrated. I am doing my best with the magazine without any compensation for doing it. Please take these factors into consideration.

Thanks

Rock,

I hope my e-mail was not one of the ones that is getting under your skin. Like I said, while I do not really have time to write a full article myself I would be more than happy to help with the proofing/editing/fact checking on some of them. Please drop me another e-mail (or PM) if you want any help.

This magazine has been great so far! True, there are a few typos and incorrect rules interpretations here and there, but stuff happens and you've got to roll with it. I think all of the contributors have done a bang up job so far; don't let the naysayers get to you. Keep up the good work, guys!!!

It wasn't you tidge. I took on a big effort writing about my first feat with Fastball Special. The only other more controversial feat would have been ICWO. I have been getting quite a few emails that feel like personal attacks as people get in depth on tiny mistakes that end up NOT being mistakes at all. Hey!Rock I've got a problem with downloading the crit. hit 5 and I want to read it(you Know x-men theme) and oh what about my suggestion, make the list of arch-enemies from all Heroclix sets (or at least marvel sets ; ).Sorry but I am only interested in Marvl.Anyway thanks in advance for your efforts guys!

andrewtarius posted a thread here that lists all archenemies thru Armor Wars & may be updated for Collateral Damage.

Sure I'll take that challenge

A "decent" effort "this time"...which both implies that only a small amount of work went into this issue and that less work went into the issues before...this statement was FAR from tactful

Since we're talking about this in the open, I have to say that I too was offended by that remark. "A decent effort this time" strongly suggests that we did not put a "decent effort" into past issues. Not to mention it also suggests that our "decent effort" for this issue is still "not good enough".

I think this is a fantastic issue, as was issues 1-4, and each one is just getting better.

Still, I welcome all comments whether I agree with them or not.

For the record, each and every person involved in Critical Hit puts alot of effort into the magazine. They are not paid, and they do this of their own free will.

While there are certainly some mistakes that will slip in, the audience has to accept that "it happens". It's a sad reply, but it's true. It happens to magazines that spend tens of thousands of dollars to produce, and it happens to a tiny free online magazine too.

I am very proud of every person who has contributed to any of the Critical Hit issues.

And issue #6 is going to be... well, Super.
