This may be the best commedy of all. Very black, but very funny. Peter Sellars plays everything from the President to a psychotic half paralyzed Nazi scientist.
Lot's of great extras, including James Earl Jones and Slim Pickens. The music and one off shots work so well against the dark background of the film (such as the 'Peace is our Profession' sign while guys are running arround shooting up the place, and who can forget 'We'll Meet Again' while the world is being nuked?).
'Mr. President, WE MUST NOT HAVE A MINESHAFT GAP!'

I suppose I just didn't get this movie.
The only part I thought was funny is the president talking on the telephone to the Russian president.
Other than that - tremendously boring.
5/10
Boring. Boring?! Buffalo 66 is boring. ;)
Dr. Strangelove Or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb is an easy 10/10.
Kubrick was a god.

Dr. Strangelove,A Clockwork Orange, 2001 and FMJ are the definitive Kubrick. :)

Yes, Buffalo 66 is boring, but for me it's more entertaining than Dr. Strangelove.

What if you put a real hot poster of Christina Ricci up next to the tv while you were watching Dr. Strangelove so you could see both in clearly at the same time. Christina Ricci and Dr. Strangelove -- two great tastes that taste great together!
What if? Would Buffalo 66 be more boring than Dr. Strangelove then?
That's what I thought. ;)

Terrific movie. Dark, thoughtful, funny. Peter Sellers put in the performance of his career on this one.

What makes you assume I do not have a poster of Christina Ricci next to my TV?
And the best part about Buffalo 66 is the, ahem, jiggling.

Mmmmmmmm... jiggling.
I have, uh, no counter for that.

Question about Buffalo 66...shouldn't it be Buffalo 67?
CURRENT HCR MEMBER RATING:
DR. STRANGELOVE - 8.75 / 10
(5 members rating)
Back on topic, I'd give it a solid 9.75. The only flaw is that I've missed a few minutes in the middle due to having to watch it on TV and my bladder being too weak. I've been meaning to get it since forever though so I hope I see it sometime soon outside of a super expensive box set that includes Eyes Wide Shut.

"There will be no fighting in the war room."
Dark humor that was absolutely perfect for the cold war era is was released in. It still holds up fairly well. And quite possible the best role/roles Peter Sellers was ever in.

That inspired bit of commentary was provided by the member formerly known as C37. He hit just about every forum on the site with a one line spam post before AZS could close the account. It did, however, bring to my attention that I have not rated one of my favorite films of all time. I'm not a huge Kubrick disciple (I thought Eyes Wide Shut was awful and I'm ambivalent about A Clockwork Orange), but I think he hits just the right tone with this one. Peter Sellers is, of course, fantastic in his various roles (although he was also originally cast as Major Kong, I find it hard to imagine anyone *but* Slim Pickens in that role). The combat scenes are some of the most realistic I've ever seen on film (and I'm including Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers in there) and the decision to shoot in black and white was perfect for the material. And its near infinite quotability makes it a movie nerd favorite. I give it a solid 9.75.

I'd love to help but the string in my knees has gone again.
A movie that is both humorous and sobering at the same time.
I give it a 9.5, one of the movies in my collection on slow rotation (I rotate it through the player every couple of months).

This is my favourite movie of all time.
So there really isn't much more to say about it other than to give it a nice big 10 out of 10

Gotta go with 10/10 on Doc Strangelove. Peter Sellers is great, and Slim Pickens just personifies the cold war Air Force pilots.
