If a character has the Damage Shield card and the Armor Piercing card attached to it and is attacked in close combat by a character with toughness, would the damage done by the Damage Shield card be reduced to 0 by toughness or not? Below are the exact wordings of the two cards.
Damage Shield: (When the character is the target of a successful close combat attack, the attacker is dealt 1 damage after the attack resolves)
Armor Piercing: (Damage dealt by the character may not be reduced below 1)
This one seems like a no brainer to me, but I have a friend who refuses to believe what I think should happen in this matter without outside input. Thanks in advance for the help!
Seems pretty cut and dry to me. Damage Shield deals one damage, and Armor Piercing says it can't be reduced below 1.
The only problem with this tactic is how easy it is to avoid. Most of the time, you can make a ranged attack against the opponent and completely ignore the damage. In addition, any tactic in which your own piece has to take damage already has one strike against it. It's what keeps Mystics from being the best TA ever.

Yes, you are correct. The AP makes the Damage Shield go through Toughness, or Invul or Imperv. Particularily nasty combo if you put it on a Mystic, as the attacking figure takes 2 Damage. 1 for the Mystics and one for the AP Damage Shield........:)

2 very good points there. I'd say that CD Eclipso is the best candidate for the combo, as she has Stealth. So in order for most figures to get to her, they are going to have to make a clsoe combat attack.

Thanks for the info guys! Thats how I figured it would resolve. I had those on the Vet Joker from Icons and it worked out pretty well with his stealth and poison. Since all I have to do for damage shield to work is be succesfully attacked, masterminding that damage off wouldnt cause the damage shield not to work would it?

Taking damage has nothing to do with it. If the DS fig is hit by an attack, the Damage Shield will activate. It is a very nasty combo with Joker...

Hold up ... I thought that Damage shield was like mystics and it is not an attack so the damage was automatic and not subject to being reduced by damage reducers ?

It is not an attack and the damage is dealt automatically - you don't have to roll for it. However, it is still damage dealt, and therefore any power that reduces damage dealt (Toughness, Invulnerability, Impervious, and the Life Model Decoy feat) works against it. Unless you have Armor Piercing of course.
LAMP + damage shield = wewt?
LAMP + damage shield = wewt?
That wasn't the reason it was good.
It was good because you couldn't keep the Poisoner away long enough to KO the Lockjaws. Usually 1 Joker/Viper, and like 3-4 Lockjaws constantly Phasing with the Poisoner to get to your figures.
