I will be traveling to Calgary/Edmonton tomorrow for a week. While I won't be able to slip away for Clix games, since I'll be busy, what stores do you guys suggest me going to?

Maybe to pick up some Clix from.....or just hang out for a little while.

Hey HUSH, I'm in Van now (I'm the Campaign rules guy), but was once from Edmonton. If u want venues, follow Puuka's lead. If u want singles, well I find the Wizards "chain" the best. Talk to Toby or Mander (call em'), they'll know which of the 3 regional stores have the figure u might want.

Hey everyone,

I'm currently living in Calgary too. I only last week picked up a starter for Heroclix and Horrorclix. I've only had a chance to play the Horrorclix through once so far and would like to meet some more players. I used to play a lot of VS, but have never had much luck finding players for that in Calgary either.

Does anyone ever head out to the Saturday 'clix games at Phoenix Comics?

Puuka
04/12/2007, 10:58
I know the few times I've gone to Calgary, I've been able to play at Phoenix and have wanted to play at Sentry Box. I've met the players a few times and they are a nice bunch.

Obsidian3d
04/12/2007, 18:23
What was the age grouping like when you dropped in at Phoenix?

Puuka

Thanks for the info Puuka. I was hoping to make it to Phoenix this month for a game, but it looks like my April weekends are booked up already. It's too bad really, because I had some fun ideas for a team to play for my first game. It'd probably lose, but whatever!

I went down to pick up some more DC 'clix this weekend, and ended up grabbing the GL Collector's Box, an Icons booster, and the Horrorclix Alien Queen. The Queen is really cool, and I think it'll be a lot of fun to play next time I get some people over for that. The Icons booster's contents had me grinning. All four characters were ones I really like. I got Raven, Blackfire, Starfire and Darkseid! Now if only I had some time to go out and play.

I also ordered an Armor Wars brick online for pretty cheap, in hopes of filling out my REV sets for Alpha Flight. I need some feat cards to boost these guys up to a decent team as well. Right now I don't think they're quite competitive without some solid boosts from good feat cards.

I agree! they should've made a FCBD Venom fig. Turnouts are about the same. I have some cool scenerios for June. You can check them out either on the store's website or on Wizkids.

Highlanderclix! 300pt, all figs must have bcf and a sword as part of the sculpt. When you KO (behead) an opponent. You get his/her "quickening", you roll 1d6 and gain back clicks equal to the result.

I'm planning on heading to the games on Saturday at Phoenix Comics in Calgary. Is anyone from here going down there?

This will be my first event, and I'm still learning the rules so I am certain I'll get trounced, but I'm looking forward to it nonetheless. I haven't decided what I'm going to play just yet but I do have a few team ideas.

Goken
05/07/2007, 01:11
Sounds like a cool scenario Mander, love the quickening idea. ;)

Obsidian > How did you do? Feel free to ask if you have any questions, or anything related to the game~

Obsidian3d
05/07/2007, 01:42
Heh, I had a good time and everyone was happy to help me figure out the powers and explain the rules. The team I made was fun to play but fared terribly. I only scored one kill (a pog) in all three games. But I did win a prize, since there were only 4 players. I'm hoping to make it out to play again next week. I'm not sure whether I'll revise my team or play something else. I think next week's build total goes up to 400, so that could make things more interesting. :)

Goken
07/25/2007, 22:54
Hey again guys, how have the tournaments been coming along Obsidian?

Puuka > How are the turnouts for the CoG events?

P.S

Anyone still have a Man of Steel/Superman Robot/Krypto for trade? PM me if you do~! Come on Mander I know you still have some!~ heheh

Puuka
07/25/2007, 22:58
Had 3 the first and 5 the second. Hoping for more this Saturday (Come on down)

It hasn't helped that Lion/Rampant hasn't gotten the prizes there yet. Supposed to be this friday they will be there.

Obsidian3d
07/25/2007, 22:59
Things are going well down here. I'm still not much of a player (I usually only win mayb 1 out of 4 or 5 games), but I usually have a good time. The turnouts for the Galactus events at Phoenix and Sentry Box have been higher than the regular ones, so that's good too.

Goken
07/25/2007, 23:58
Still no prize support... after the second week? :S:S:S

Obsidian > Don't sweat it too much, it takes time, and experience helps alot, just ask Puuka or anyone else on the forums, they'll tell you the same thing. I myself have been playing for probably... 3-4 years now and there are always days where I come out with a less than 'stellar performance.'

It's good to hear you're having fun though, theme teams should help out a little bit too..

If you have any questions or inquiries and aren't getting much responses (though I find that unlikely on here), feel free to ask here, or PM me. A friend of mine is going to be living in Calgary for the next two months, who knows he might even drop in for a tournament lol.

We weren't the only ones. Seems anyone in Canada that ordered through Lyon Rampant got it late because some one there was on vacation.

dragonborne
07/26/2007, 00:19
wow that's crappy about lion ramparts being late. i pestered alliance to make sure i got my galactus support.

sorry dude! i have only 1 man of steel and 1 robot. i do however think i may have another krypto. don't quote me cause my collection is all over the place....some in the living room....bedroom closet...hallway closet..dining room....

Goken
07/26/2007, 00:45
Uso! Hm.. well.. let me know what you might be interested in, or are missing, if I can make it saturday I'll be sure to bring it along... All I recall is that you didn't have Doctor Doom LE from CT but that was a long time ago...

dragonborne
07/26/2007, 00:47
yeah i still don't have the doom le. if he's up for trade then sure. and guess what..i found krypto still in his plastic bubble. poor thing asphixiated.

Goken
07/26/2007, 01:10
That sounds ok to me.. but it was hard to come by! Sure you won't trade the Man of Steel and Robot? What else are you missing?

dragonborne
07/26/2007, 13:59
lol i traded away my still not born firstborn for the robot. and i would trade the man of steel if i could get another but that's not a guarantee now. :(

we'll discuss. i still haven't gone thru my le's to see what i need. like i said my stuff is all over the place in my house!

Goken
07/26/2007, 14:29
Hm.... ok, fair enough.. Let me know. Did you also get "The Dark Knight"?

nope cause i'm lazy and i'm playing with my new transformers!

i'll try to work on one this weekend. have a lot of clix ro go thru.

Goken
07/27/2007, 01:12
Transformers?!?! What?!?! Why wasn't I invited... that's not very nice...

Speaking of TF though.. I'll be picking up (or trying to) Master Piece Optimus Prime (Convoy) when I head over to Japan though, have you seen it?

dragonborne
07/27/2007, 04:16
yeah i own the north american version with the short smokestacks. i want the japanese version with the full functioning trailer. but alas it's too expensive to import!

dragonborne
07/27/2007, 04:17
prime and jazz are kicking the #### out of barricade and swindle on my desk right now!

Goken
07/27/2007, 04:24
lol... you'll have to take pics sometime... the NA version is fine but.. there's quite a few differences I don't like.. mainly the blue gun and garbage "non Peter Cullen" voice lol..

dragonborne
07/27/2007, 04:26
yeah i agree about the gun. gary chalk does ok as optimus. i liked him as primal.

my big gripe is the smokestacks and no trailer!

Goken
07/27/2007, 05:02
You can buy separate stacks though off the 'bay, or at least I've seen them on there... 10 bucks I think. As for the trailer... I've also seen auctions for that.. but I think it's just the tray that comes with the incomplete Convoy which folds into a trailer.. (lame)

I'll probably be heading down saturday since my friend wants to do some trading... I'll bring all of my trades and what not, lets see if there isn't something you're missing for MoS and Krypto... I'd still want the Robot, but seems you're quite attached to it... heh :(

dragonborne
07/27/2007, 05:08
yeah but i don't want to risk the cahnce to screw up and damage prime. there is a fully functioning transformable trailer. every detail is exact to the original toy just sized to fit the masterpiece prime and comes with roller. that one is out of production and if you find it consider yourself lucky. the second release is just the trailer. it looks exactly like the original but doesn't transform or come with roller but the door opens.

if you find 2 MP-01 Primes i'll pay you for the second one!

Yeah, that's the one I'm going to try and find in HK (alot more likely than in Japan is my thoughts)... I also want a MP Hot Rod or Rodimus, but that'll probably 5 or so years from now.. so I'm safe for the monent.. hah...

EDIT*

That Buy it Now is ridiculous... even considering that it's out of print..

And pending I can actually find it (some)... that would be miraculous!

Happy Harbor (Fridays) is a great venue, very busy, bit still great.
Gamers Lair (Saturday) Is awesome too (My venue) We haven't been getting as many people though. I'm thinking I might be changeing it to Thursdays for the 4 slaves, then Saturday for the main Starro

I'm an Edmonton player. Has it really been a year since the last post? Anyways, I'm fanatical about HeroClix and play whenever I can.

My regular venue is ThunderGround Comics in St. Albert AB. Games are normally on Saturday @ 6:00 pm.

Hello Alberta HeroClix players -

If anyone is in the Lethbridge area (permantly or occasionally), you are all more than welcome to come to our HeroClix tournaments. We play at noon every Saturday @
Showcase Comics
1275 3rd Ave s.
Lethbridge
Alberta
Canada

We have a really great group of people who come out every week. We have prize support through January and are planning to keep our tournaments strong until HeroClix goes back into production.

Whether you're a Lethbridge resident who plays Clix, someone looking to learn the game, or a visitor looking for a Clix-friendly venue, you are welcome here!

I am posting our tournaments on the WizKids site, so you can find out what is happening from week to week (venue UserID: showcase - judge UserID: groeni).

If anyone is thinking about playing or have some questions about tournaments/prizes/directions/etc., please PM me.

Thanks,
Matt
Lethbridge HeroClix Judge

Got this message from Michael from Calgary (http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/member.php?u=14983).

I am holding a tournament in Calgary and was hoping you could spread the word to other players in Edmonton to see if anyone would be interested in attending. It is to welcome back Heroclix after such a long absence. The prizes will be
1st A brick of Hammer of Thor
2nd Chase Sue Richards
3rd Three boosters of Hammer of Thor
There will be more but these are the more prominent prizes. The event is two booster sealed with an extra $7 entry to help pay for the prizes. PM me or email me for more information if you or anyone you know would like to attend.

Heads up Edmontonians, if you don't know Wizards Comics in Millwoods closed and reopened as Quantum Comics under a new owner. Clix has been alive and kicking at this venue. They host events every Saturday with an average of 8 players since the HoT release. Its been great getting back into clix and I've nothing but positives for this venue, its judge, and its players.

I play both in Calgary and in Edmonton. I am also coordinating with the core group of Calgary players and Quantum comics to establish a Alberta HC league to promote competitive play and drive players to both cities for major events like the old pre-releases of long ago. Right now the biggest challenge is establishing a draw, like a complete set or purples, when Wizkids/NECA hasn't established a support system yet for major events. If you have some thoughts you'd like to share please post it, I'd love to hear them.

These are the venues that have attended that are still going strong and would recommend that you attend.

Edmonton
Quantum Comics: Every Saturday @ 1pm

Calgary
Phoenix Comics: Every Saturday @ 1pm
Trilogy gaming: Not sure on the details as I haven't been here in a while, but I recommend that you go. Chinny runs a good show. In fact I heard a rumor that there is a major release event April 17th.

Don't forget about Lethbridge! There is a huge interest in 'Clix in "L-Town" and we easily get as many people as Quantum coming down to Showcase Comics every Saturday for tournaments!

If you're looking to put some provincial HeroClix events/interaction together, we would definitely be interested!

I think it would be great to see some big HeroClix events taking place at the Calgary and Edmonton comic conventions.

Thanks for the reminder and I never new that you guys had such a strong community down there. I knew that you had some good gamers that come to Calgary every once in a while. If you wanna add your two cents on helping to organize or become involved in establishing an AB HC league, then let myself or Michael (ChopChop) Tran in Calgary know. We're going to need at least one supportive venue in each participating city. What I'd like to see is at least one major exclusive event held at each venue that drives players from all over AB to participate in. My vision is have a strong community that supports its local vendors and attracts more interested people. The stronger the community and vendor buy in we have, the longer HC will stay in AB and allow us to get recognized by Wizkids in supporting us with better prize support for our major events. Ultimately I want to be on par with the conventions with respect to the support they get and the only way to do that is too showcase the strong community within this province. I have a variety of ideas to accomplish that, but I would love to get everyone's input on what they would like to see.

Do you know if there's going to be anything HC related at the Calgary Comic Expo (http://www.calgaryexpo.com/)?

Or, for that matter, at any other Alberta conventions (http://www.cccomiccon.com/links/canada-cons#alberta)?

Not that I'm aware of or that I have put together. That doesn't mean that there won't be. So far Wizkids has been positive in the idea of the community organizing itself, but have not stepped forward in offering any support. I understand that they are rebuilding and are unable to take on every proposal tabled to them.

I believe that continued communication with Wizkids is required as well as with the AB community as a whole. Knowing what I know so far, they will apply resources to where they see sales numbers. Those numbers can only come from brick and mortar stores, as online sales are not as easily track-able and don't necessarily represent the sales happening in that region. This is why strong vendor/store support from the local community is important. HC players shopping online or through other secondary markets hurt us as a community.

Wizkids needs time to establish themselves before they can start branching out to support smaller events, and when I say smaller I mean smaller than major US conventions. In the meantime this is an opportunity for all of us to reestablish a once strong network of AB HC players and be prepared to work with Wizkids when the time is right.

Thanks for the information SPAZ!

I'll be making some fun and interesting scenarios in the near future hopefully, and maybe they can be employed for a fun tournament-style event at one of the venues, I'll be sure to submit a link here to the scenarios~

Hi,

I am going to be holding another release tourney in Calgary for Web of the Spider-Man. I was nable to work out a deal with Mike Bauer at Phoenix Comicx that would benefit us all equally so we will not hold the release event at Phoenix Comics. The good news is I got us a better deal at Trilogy Gaming. Not only has Pascal (the owner of Trilogy) been able to give us a better deal on the price of boosters, he's got a better timeline (for me anyways). For those who are coming in from out of town, we will be starting later (so you don't have to rush and get up earlier) and he is staying open later than Phoenix Comics would have so we have more time and rounds won't be as rushed.

Here we go with the specifics:

You pay for 2 boosters of WoS and an $8 entry fee (which will go towards purchasing prizes). Make a Kick-### 300 point team from your boosters. Play 3 rounds of Swiss match-ups. The top 4 will go on to semi-finals and finals to determine the winner.
Don't fret if you don't make it into top 4 (I probably won't get a single win). There will be 2 Battle Royals going on as the semi- and finals are being held. The prizes for winning the Battle Royal will be a booster of WoS. There may even be a third or fourth Battle Royal depending on the number of players we get and the interest in playing.

Prizes:
First-- A brick of WoS
Second-- Spiderwoman Chase Figure from SI (Marvel release so a Marvel Chase Fig)
Third-- 3 boosters of WoS
Fourth-- 2 boosters of WoS

Of course, if Second place finisher doesn't want a Spiderwoman, he/she can opt to take the next prize and the Spiderwoman will be shunted to next placement.
Everybody that attends will get a prize of some sorts, so there are no losers. Last time a player walked away with a set of CURs of Justice League for the Hammer of Thor Release and another netted a set of CURs of Crisis for the Brave and the Bold release. You just can't go wrong with that.

Timetable:
Registration is from 2pm to 2:30pm. At 2:30, we will start dividing up the boosters and team-building. If you can't make it by 2:30, let me know ahead of time and I will make sure to save you a spot.
I plan on a 3pm start time. Each round is 50 mins.
We will take a half hour break to figure out semi-finals and Battle Royals and start again at 6pm.
When Finals are done, prizes will be given out. If you need to leave before then, I will make sure you get your participation prize and send you off with a firm hand-shake.

Where:
TrilogyGaming Club
#2 7005 18th street S.E.
Calgary AB, T2C 1Y1
(403) 279-2290
trilogygamingclub@shawbiz.ca

Note: I did get a good deal with Pascal. You can pay him for registration and buy the individual boosters from him ($12 per booster and $8 registration makes $32) or if you buy a brick ($100) and just add registration on top of that, you can use two boosters from your brick to play in the event. Why would you buy a brick? Well, you save $2 per booster and if you and several of your friends want to get together and pay that way, you all save $2 per booster. I don't know how many Pascal will have on hand but he will have enough for the tournament.

The final way you can pay is through me. Like I mentioned, Pascal gave me a good deal on boosters. He said that any product purchased at Trilogy can be used for the event. I have procurred some cases from Trilogy and will pass down the savings to you. The cost is $10 per booster and the cost of registration ($28 total). Please let me know if you want to go this route ahead of time as I only have 3 cases to go around.

Any questions, you can contact me at the realms here or email me at wheretofindmike@yahoo.ca.

Thanks for your time,

Mike (The Chinese Guy) Tran

You are correct. There is also Trilogy in the south that play on Sundays and the occasional Saturday. Plus Sentry Box and they usually play right after the game a Phoenix.

The people you want to look up in Calgary are Mike T, Tom, or Chris. They usually attend most of the events and can help you out with specific times. Enjoy!

Hey, All

I thought I would stir the pot in getting people excited for the next Heroclix release: Giant Sized X-Men!!! The set is coming out on March 16th, 2011. That is still quite a ways from now, but I'd like to get input from you, the 'clix players, on what you want to see done for this release event. I have already talked to Pascal at Trilogy and he would like to know how many people are interested in coming out and how much product he needs to pre-order for us. We have run several release events at Trilogy in the past and they were all successes thanks to you guys for coming out.

If you have any friends that you think may enjoy playing Heroclix, by all means, get them out here. It'll be a blast!!!

Get back to me by PM.

For Edmonton players looking for the 24X36 top loaders for their maps, Wayne's Sports Cards & Collectibles has them. They are in the West end, across from WEM in the strip mall on 170th st. and 90th ave.

They are $10.
