Here is a thread for players in Los Angeles and the surrounding region to talk about their venues, tournaments, and good times. Drop a line and introduce yourself!

I've been playing at:

The Bullpen- 13356 Washington Blvd. Los Angeles.
Weeza and Grifter are great judges that make it fun every Sunday at 11:30. The players are very laid back. We often play larger point games, and theme teams. We also run special events from time to time. Last weekend we met at Grifter's house and had a massive eight player battle royal with special scenario rules on a 3-D map. To top it off, we had BBQ, and beer. It was a good time.

The following is a breakdown of some of the local venues. They were recommended by Bob (Captain Bob) of Comic Cult II, a really nice fellow who helped me get back into tourneys, and Ray (r_amoranto) from The Realm. Thanks for the tips guys.

If you are a judge or player at these venues and would like the info edited, or if you would like your venue added, let me know.

There are a few venues I frequent around town. There are no power gamers in the circles I travel in, though people do like to win. Here's a list of places I'm most familiar with:
-(Captain Bob)

Legacy Comics and Cards - 123 W. Wilson Ave. Glendale:
We hold tourneys every Saturday at noon. There is a $5.50 purchase of anything required as an entry fee of sorts, but the store sells Clix, other games, comics, magna, amime, toys, sports collectables, and all sorts of stuff. I have been bringing extra LEs and stuff to hand out to people that participate. We try different formats to change things up.
-Judge: Noel (Newbmaster) with help from Rob (kalel88)

Comic Cult II - 12329 Imperial Hwy Norwalk:
I Judge here. It's not really LA, but it is my favorite venue. Very laid back with an owner who gives out lots of free prizes. Every other Saturday at 1pm. (same Highlander rule, same always unrestricted) Plus, if you win a tournament, you get to pick the build rules for the next tournament.
-Judge: Bob (Captain Bob)

Knight Ware Inc - 3709 Cahuenga Blvd. West Studio City:
They play Tuesdays at 6:30pm, but have had occasional Saturday afternoons as well. They do enforce retirement for their constructed events, but otherwise usually don't alter the build rules. xZAOx is the WK callsign for the judge over there.

The Game Zone - 2302 E. Colorado Blvd Pasadena:
They play every Tuesday at 6:30 pm. LordKrieg is judging there. Judges have brought some of their old LEs as third prizes before.

Kings Comics & Cards - 420 N. Glenoaks Blvd. Burbank:
I haven't been to either in a couple of years. I've heard things have changed for the better since then. The Judge there goes by the name cheesteak on the WK site. Most events are at either 6pm or 4pm on Wednesday.

Kitty World - 16050 Sherman Way Van Nuys:
I've only been there once, but some of the players at my events go there every so often and seem to enjoy themselves. genkigemini judges over there, and games are played on different days of the week. I think it's a younger crowd over there.

The Realm - 649 w. Imperial hwy. E , Brea:
Each month I try to hold 2 events on Friday nite and 2 on Saturday. I try to offset Saturdays with Comic Cult II. No venue fee but we appreciate your business. We also sell comics there! Plenty of room, a/c, and a stereo! Typically about 8 adults and 8 kids on any given weekend. If enough kids show, we have two tourneys a junior and a regular, with prizes for both. Drop me a line if you have questions.
-Judge: Ray (r_amoranto)

Comic Galaxy - 2300 S. Garfield Ave Unit B, Monterey Park:
Patrick (howardtduck),the Judge, is a hoot. Unfortunately he has to run things early on Thursdays due to his work schedule. It is the smallest venue on the planet, and you either have to buy something for $7 or just fork over $4.

Allways Gaming - 21032 Devonshire Street Suite 109 -Chatsworth
Every Saturday at 12:30 (occassionally Friday night). This Saturday is no exception. Sign up for Marquee at 12:30 and Booster Selection begins about 12:50.
-(coyotejack)

Toons and Toys - Tustin
Recommended by Ray. More info coming!
- Judge: Ken

Comic Madness - Chino
Recommended by Ray. More info coming!
- Judge: Enrique (drax the destroyer)

Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. They're all listed on the Wizkids Events pages.
-(Captain Bob)

If you are new to the L.A. Region: Welcome to the fun!

Captain Bob
07/13/2006, 20:12
The above is still fairly accurate, but somewhat out of date. Be sure to verify tournament times and house rules on the WizKids site. Insight and I are working on getting each local Judge to write about their venues, house rules, and any other pertinent information.

By the way we did not have beer at the tournament itself hehehe. Looks like mr. Insight has already introduce myself and my buddy the grifter, Our players are the most down to earth player and the number keeps growing, so yea who wants to join us for the Marquee this sunday?

In a couple of weeks were having a 700 point war, 5 actions, Best theme.

We got a Law and Order Team so far.

I may be ready to drop an Inferno team, if some of my mod fodder gets delivered in time. I'll give you fellas a heads up in case you'd like to see your X-Men etc take on a swarm of goblins and such, led of course by Nastirh and the Goblin Queen.

I already got them painted up, except for the insignia on the chest.

I am thinking about going over the green though. It came out kind of dark.

Either way, they will be ready for the marquee!

It would be cool to run Killowag, Sinestro, Abin Sur etc.

GLC BEFORE Hal. That's good stuff.

I'm thinking about trying out Stern Wulfhammer with Haymaker, lol. I painted up that rookie, but got my hands on a Vet, so I will see if I can pull a haymakin' flurry. The Norse boys will be ready to make a little noise of their own.

Very cool to list these out!

A couple things to note:

Njoy no longer holds HeroClix events. They stopped a while back and were only doing Vs. events, but even that has seemingly stopped. This is where I had my very first tourneys and learned the game so it was a bummer to see it go.

The venue that I play at mainly: Allways Gaming - 21032 Devonshire Street Suite 109 -Chatsworth , CA

Every Saturday at 12:30 (occassionally Friday night). This Saturday is no exception. Sign up for Marquee at 12:30 and Booster Selection begins about 12:50.

I also play at Kitty world when I can but the weekday evening games make it tough to get to from work at times.

One of these days I need to try and get down to the bullpen to see how things are! :)

what kind? of jerseys?

Hockey jerseys are the best, but it is Cali and it is hot. If we left it up to Mitch it would be Oilers Jerseys, no doubt.

T-Shirts that read "I'm with stupid" is probably more appropriate. :p

Maybe we'll go up there and lose every match. Then we'll have to find the clix version of Mr. Miyagi to get our clix-fu straight, or else the dudes from North Ridge will sense our weakness and come down and steal our LEs from us every week. :squareeye

"Put em in a body bag! Yeah!":knockedou

My bet- Grifter pulls through and makes us respectable. The guy was clutch during the BBQ. Every turn he took pried victory from your hands.
KC Green Lantern. No problem. Daredevil is all over it. Problem solved.

AllWays is pretty cool, and probably cooler now that you can house rule retirement away. It's just far, and gas prices blow right now.

Sorry I can't be around for the Marquee, though. I'd like to get another crack at Stilt Man or Black Bolt.

Understandable, but we miss seeing ya! If I pull another Stilt-man or Black Bolt I'll give you first dibs. :) I'll try and make my way down to the bullpen for a game if I can.

Weeza and Insight - If we see you in our neck of the woods, that would be very cool! The Judge for AllWays (Jason) is nice but tends to worry about everything a bit too much. If he keeps bothering you (By asking how everything is, etc...), just shoo him away. lol I tell him to stop or else he's going to give himself an ulcer. heh heh :p

I think you'll dig the Bullpen, although I'm sure it's probably as far for you as AllWays is for me, so there's that. But cool thing about the Bullpen - we did a sealed Brick tournament, and we realized we had enough figs that we could actually do loose themes in a sealed tourney. That was neat.

Also, I've got an extra Maximus and Ka-Zar and a purple-ring Charcoal I'm willing to part with, too, should you get Stilty or BLACKAGAR BOLTAGON.

Vic,

got your email and decided to check out the thread and introduce myself. A couple of years ago, there was an effort in OC to band together and cross-promote the venues. You could play HC every day of the week, somewhere in OC....the good old days, sigh. I'm currently judging at the Realm in Brea (Imperial Hwy and Berry). Each month I try to hold 2 events on Friday nite and 2 on Saturday. I try to offset my Saturdays with Bob's so the players can go to just one venue on a given Saturday, this month was tough because of the marquee but I try. My venue does not charge a fee for playing but they appreciate your business. I've had a maximum of 22 people for a marquee so there's plenty of room plus there's comics, a/c and a stereo, the last 2 for FREE! I typically get 16 players, 8 adults and 8 kids rotating through on any given weekend. If enough kids show up, I split the event and have a junior and a regular tournament at the same time. I give out prizes for both. Drop me a line if you have any questions.

To add to Bob's list, these are other places I've played at,

1) Toons and Toys in Tustin - ken is the judge

2) Comic Madness in chino - enrique (drax the destroyer) is the judge

Ray

ps. if you went to WWLA, you definitely saw me judging and you'll see us in SDCC (just a spectator, this time).

Thanks for dropping in. It's always nice to meet more local players. I'll post an update on the venues for you, so we can keep things accurate.

You know what could be good...We could travel out to a different local venue once every month or two, and have a little bigger and better shindig then normal.

Let me know what you guys think. If enough people are for it, I'll help organize.

Just wanted to pop in and thank Insight, Weeza, and Grifter for making the journey up to our neck of the woods! It was great meeting you all and I had two very fun matches against Grift and Insight. :) Hopefully I'll get to play Weeza next time we are all together.

Thanks for your patience and help with the brand new player Jonathon. He's a good kid and is learning as we go. The only two shop "regulars" we had today were myself and the other Jack (Potter). Jonathon is new and Jose I've never met before so it was a nice mix with so much new blood. I hope you guys enjoyed the day!

I've got my fingers crossed that I can join you guys for the bullpen's Marquee Sunday!

Hey! Who won that marquee????

And to throw this out there. KnightWare is right off the 101 and Cahuenga. They operate THURSDAY nights and the owners are really nice. Nothing but the LE's to play for (Unless it's a special tourney- have given Con LE's for drafts) but it don't cost you a thing to play. Absolutely free! xZaoX a.k.a Sean is a great judge and the place is easy going and fun. But bring your A-game. No support and Highlander rules apply.

Thanks for inviting us up Coyote, we had an awesome time. You have a real cool bunch of guys up there, who definitely know how to play for fun. Hope to see you tomorrow, but if not I'm sure we'll catch up soon. Let me know if you or any of your guys are heading to Comic Con. It looks like Captain Bob and Azs are getting some games lined up. Should be awesome.

Yo Bubblehead, good to see you dropping by. I got lucky with my pulls and snuck out the win at the marquee. Coyote could have taken me but he rolled two crits on the most important round of combat.

My amazingly lucky squad:
E Sandman
U Scarlet Spider
R Spider Man
E Mockingbird
E Valkyrie
R Multiple Man

A whole lot of sharing 17 Defense and getting boosts from SS and CR. Also a whole lot of attack sharing. Multiple Man was basically there to give clix to the spiders. They were very effective and fun.

Weeza had something along the lines of
U Wolvie
V Pulsar
E Daredevil
R Spiderman
Sgt Tork
That might have been it

Coyote Jack had awful pulls, but got some good boosters later. He ended up with
V Meggan
E Techno? or V Fixer?
R Hydra Agent
E MACH
R Spiderman

Didn't play Grifter so I can't remember his team. Good bunch of guys, and a cool dude donated many LE's so everybody got hooked up.

I'll make sure to get your venue info updated Bubblehead.

Maybe I'll see some of you jokers tomorrow

Glad you guys had fun! It was a blast having even more players that are not only knowledgeable, but fun as well in the game.

Thanks for listing the teams insight...my brain is mush so I couldn't remember. lol

Weeza's pog hit (Turk) was freakin' hilarious: 1 Natural Damage + 1 Critical Hit Damage + 1 for hitting the wall + 1 for Ground Zero! I got to watch this since I had a Bye the first round.

I played Grifter in the second round and my memory isn't working too well today, I apologize, but I know there was a V Valkyrie, V Kraven, and V Jack O'Lantern on the team for certain. Grifter was an excellent player and it pretty much came down to the fact that I had some really good rolls that round. It was anybody's match as the last figures standing near the end were Lantern + Kraven vs. Mach + Meggan. Just a straight slugfest!

My match with insight was a lot of fun as well! Another excellent player and he made a great team. I don't know what else he pulled, but he made very efficient use of the figures on that team! It was a fun battle and we got into position and just went at it. And you know, Dave, that's how I love to play the game. Set up and attack! :) There was no fear from our visiting bullpen friends. They came there to play and have fun and that makes it fun for those around them.

Congratulations to insight for the win, Weeza for 2nd place, and Jonathon for Fellowship!

You're always welcome down at the Bullpen bro. They hold games there every Sunday at 11:30.

If you come by this week, you'll need to bring two armies. A 600 point hero team, and a 600 point villain team. Before each round you and your opponent will roll dice to see which of you will play the hero, and which will play the villain. They use highlander rules there, so only one of each character unless they are generics or a figure like Multiple Man for example.

Looks like the bullpen is heading to Torrance for Super Nova Pre-Release!

Bring it on!

Konmel
08/21/2006, 17:08
Where in Torrance?

Weeza
08/21/2006, 17:11
I Dunno most likely, Third Planet, ComiC Cult or Comic Bugs.

Konmel
08/21/2006, 19:38
Oh, I thought you knew for sure, but then found the list of pre-releases myself and see they just mentioned the city.

Third Planet -- Chris dropped heroclix (they didn't even have a Sinister Marquee)

Comic Bug -- I think it's actually in Manhattan or Redondo Beach, and I hope it's not here because of the limited playing space.

Comic Cult -- by default, I'll assume this is it. I've actually never been here even though it's supposedly close to where I live. Has anyone in this thread been there before? How's the playing space?

Weeza
08/21/2006, 19:51
Comic Cult is nice it can hold 20 or so people there, my only beef is the owner likes to smoke in the shop. I used to know the judge that ran there he was cool.

Konmel
08/21/2006, 20:12
There's always Brea too. (Northern Orange County, right?)

Weeza
08/21/2006, 20:15
Yup and I know the judge out there he is cool probably the best bet is to go to brea its only a 40 min drive I think.. But yea most likely its going to be Ray Venue that will host the pre-realase.

Konmel
08/21/2006, 20:24
I know Ray too. Do you know who's running events at Comic Cult now? Although I've never been there, I think Jim was doing it for some time, but I'm not sure who is the judge now. BTW, I have also heard of the smoke-infested store at Comic Cult (definitely one of the reasons I just never made it over there).

Weeza
08/21/2006, 21:06
yea jim use to run comic cult but I havent been there in ages since I became a judge. Yah I stop going there cause of the smoke.

[Z?]NNY
08/22/2006, 04:28
Saw jim on sunday at the comic cult, though oddly no one was there so I won by default. I look forward for the pre-release to be there as it looks like it could hold a lot of people. No offense to the bullpen, but the outside seating during sinister was a bit.. hot to say the least.

Weeza
08/22/2006, 04:32
Hehe Im still surpise we had held a pre-release, now I get to play woo hoo!

Konmel
08/22/2006, 12:17

Hi guys, this Paul. I used to play a lot at Comic Cult, Third Planet and Hi De Ho in Santa Monica. Of course I played some at the Bullpen, the realms and other places too.

So Jim isn't judging anymore and Third planet ain't running heroclix at all. See what happens when you don't keep tabs on whats going on for a while.

Anyway I'm running events at a store in Sweden nowadays and we are waiting to get approved.

I've pretty much been out of contact with the game since I moved, but it sure has changed a lot. My first game for over a year my batfriends ran into a what I thought was a straight avengers team, but out came a thunderbolts card. I got smoked.

Anyway nice to see some known faces around here.
Paul (theswede)

Greetings Paul -- it's Chad. Remember me?

As far as I know, Jim is still a judge -- he just had to head up to Northern California for some work. I think he left in April and won't be back until October or November although he has come down at least 2 weekends. So while he has been gone, someone is filling in for him but I don't know who as I've never been to Comic Cult. Sundays have never been good days for me for gaming (which is why I have never made it to the Bullpen either, sorry Sonny).

Chris eventually dropped heroclix (and several other weekday gaming events). Wednesday just didn't draw in the crowd (there were probably 2-6 players on average) and he wouldn't change the day. Chris actually recently sold the store and moved, so there is a new owner who might be interested in bringing it back. I guess I would have to judge though as Trevor isn't really into the game anymore.

Well, stay warm in Sweden. Chad

Found the one pre-release in Torrance but couldn't find the Brea one that had a listing for it. The one in Moreno Valley had one though. That's a possibility too (for those who want to drive, of course!)

pdmlmember
08/25/2006, 04:30
I remember you Chad, we had some good fights at HiDeHo.

The biggest problem I had with The Third Planet was that they only ran 2 rounds even at marquees which caused some strange results. Another problem was an earlier judge who favored his buddies. Well, well, that's water under the bridge.

Too bad there is that few players at Comic Cult these days. I always liked the people there. I remember the smoking, but that something that never really bothered me that much.

It's nice to hear that the south bay area has been able to get prerelease events the last few times around. I remember when we had to drive down to San Diego. :)

Paul

turdburglar47
08/25/2006, 04:40
Ah, Paul, I used to fight you at Hi De Ho as well - I'm Andy!

The first one that comes to mind is when your Fantastic Four team and my 2000 A.D. team teamed up on that Ultimate Thor/Con Artist/Medic team to bring swift and righteous victory to theme teams. Although I'm quite sure once we beat him, you skunked my arse soundly. :)

pdmlmember
08/25/2006, 08:56
Those where the good old days when you could use a Fantastic Four team without anyone comenting about Sue Storm. :)

I remember that fight too, you used some Euro-indy figurer you just got. The other player was Jim, the judge at Comic cult. I felt a little bit bad ganging up on him but looking at the teams we all played it was the right choice. :))

Nice to hear that you're still playing. Have you used your Quentin Beck lately?

Paul

turdburglar47
08/25/2006, 15:17
Yes, the 2000 A.D. Nemesis was the dealmaker in that game - 3 Psychic Blast damage to Thor, and he was running to his medic the whole rest of the game. Huzzah!

I have NOT used Quentin Beck lately. I may have to remedy that at the next opportunity...

Konmel
08/25/2006, 15:28
If Jim was playing his Thor, con artist, paramedic team, he deserved to be tag-teamed.

turdburglar47
08/25/2006, 15:35
That's certainly what I thought. Since he wasn't sure he was going to play that match, and then saw our teams, and THEN decided to play that. Straight FF and straight 2000 A.D. vs. that.

He was even warned going in, as there'd been a previous game earlier that day where we'd both been schooled by Ultimate Thor, so we were out for justice.

I sacrficed Nemesis to do that three damage and get him off Running Shot, and I remember thinking that Thor could still waste everybody on the board pretty easily, but he just kept running back to the medic to get that RS back, and I sacrificed most of my team in the effort to keep basing him or his medic.

[Z?]NNY

It seemed like an oddity as no one showed up for the unristricted event. So I just chatted up the folks there and they seemed like cool people. I'm going to shoot out to getting out there again tomorrow and see what the actual players are like. For the most part there is a lot of room in the place. I didn't notice anyone smoking, but could see how that could be an issue there.

I think it's a pretty good place to have a pre-release. Especially want to get out and around different places just to see some fresh blood and judging that isn't so.. well, you know what I mean. ;)

I used to be the envoy at Kings, and back in May, the store was sold out from under the owners under extremely shady circumstances. Many of the LE' and uniques now being sold there were stolen from me in the "sale", as the new/original owners claimed that everything in the store belonged to them, and I would have to take up my issues with the previous people, who were good friends of mine. I worked hard to build that game up from the days of three-booster buy-ins, and was slowly gaining a following when they took over. I was unceremoniously removed as envoy to their events, and any remaining judge rewards were kept by them. Complaints to WizKids did nothing, and my envoy account was forcibly retired in July. I have since walked completely away from the game, selling my entire collection on eBay. I've heard good things about Game Zone in Pasadena, and other venues, but avoid Kings at all costs...

War house, I almost forgot about that place. Against some advice I became a judge for that place and was able to hold ONE tournament before the store owner told me that there would be no tournaments unless there were at least six players. After that I just said thanks and goodbye.

What really bums me out is that the store had a bunch of older le's and I'm not talking about ####. I know there was a Jane Foster and an Annihilus.

Anyway, stay away from that place.

Thanks for the compliment. I'm actually the old owner. He came off like a jerk because he is a jerk. Most of their players now are invented for the sole purpose of scoring more LE's and judge prizes...

I'm thinking of actually heading up to AllWays on Saturday, since it's an Inferno theme. We're still a 616 Dazzler and a handful of Marauders away from being legit, but I've built four possible teams for it.

Suppose I could always technically use the Jean Grey Phoenix with 50 points of feats, too, or 50 points of Cyclops.

Well AllWays had a kick butt tourney, Inferno themed. Debris in effect and whether it was a LO or HO meant the demon it became after turn 6 was a charging BCF/WP monster. Nasty and fun. Congrats to CoyoteJack for taking it all in true comic book style by defeating me with my N'astrih/Warlock(S'ym) team with his Australian Outback XMen team.

And a big thanks to da 'Burglar for winning fellowship and then hookin' a brother up with the sweet Goblin Princess. Hope you use Stiltman and Forceblast!!!!!!!!!! (and whirlwind when available!)

turdburglar47
09/10/2006, 06:54
You may be happy to know my first use of Stilt-Man was this very evening. 8 players, 4 teams. 400 points.

I played a Daredevil Enemy team. Stilt-Man with Shake Off and Armor Piercing, Echo, Typhoid, Elektra Natchios, Wilson Fisk, Bullseye, Purple Man with Camouflage. Might be missing somebody there.

My partner played Ultimate Thor and Man of Steel.

We got totally cornholed by Sunny's insane Plasticity/Shape Change/Entangle team. He hit those rolls ALL THE TIME, and we couldn't hit jack.

As happens in these games, it became kind of a pair off on two sides of the map. My best move was gonna be Purple Man hiding off in the corner suddenly double MCing a Mandroid on one of the other guys' teams that wasn't in my battle, and make him TK his Hawk over into our fray to get some 'involuntary backup.' It was a total badarse cunning thing, but they shapechanged right out of it.

I couldn't roll for carp. The next thing I did was a push that was a critical miss. Stilt-Man even MISSED his breakaway roll. I find it unfortunate that giant figs can't use force blast from two squares away like they should.

Lo, it was brutal. But twas fun.

Good fun at the Comic Cult II Marquee in Norwalk.

My pulls:

U Graviton
U Thanos
V Sunspot
E Justice
E Ant Man
E Skrull Warrior
E Skrull Warrior
R Hyperion
R Bulldozer
R Ant Man
R Raza
R Sunspot

Toxic Burst
Extraordinary Day
Shalla Bal

It was tempting to go with Thanos & E Skrull, considering how well I've heard he's been doing in marquees. In the end I went for some of the figs that I've been most excited to use Graviton and R Antman

U Graviton
E Ant Man
R Ant Man
Shalla Bal

They ended up going 2-1.

It took me a little while to get used to the new map, but I thought it was a whole lot of fun.

Barely beat: Graviton, Night Thrasher, Major Victory

Watched RichPizor roll more three's then I've ever seen using: Silver Surfer R, Mantis E?, Justice V?, Rick Jones, Shiar Warrior R

Got absolutely crushed by CaptainBob using: Super Skrull, Starhawk, Forbush Man.

All that ended up being enough for second and an unexpected Hyperion LE.

The guys down there are really laid back, and friendly. As a newcomer, they made me feel real welcome. I thought the owner was a hoot too. It was great to see how knowledgeable and enthusiastic she was about clix. All in all, I highly recommend it there.

Looking forward to the marquee tomorrow at the Bullpen. If I pull a Thanos tomorrow, then I won't fight my destiny any longer lol.

Insight,

don't worry, I haven't forgotten about doing a venue vs venue event that we talked about at SDCC EAN. But I've got something that I would like to run by you. How about an event with 4 venues involved? You guys, Comic Galaxy, Comic Cult and us (the Realm). Each venue brings 4 players, there will be 4 pods, each pod will have one player from each venue and will play everyone in their pod (3 rounds). Winning store will be the one with the best W-L record, points in case of a tie. The winning store gets a unopened case of Supernova. That's the baseline, I need to figure out whether it should be a sealed event or a constructed one. $15 fee/player for constructed (of course more if sealed), my store is willing to pay the difference for the case.

Hey Turdster I tried calling you... is your phone off? This Sat if your not busy, Mutant Massacre or whatever you want to call it.

Sentinels vs. Mutants

Insight is going to make a sceniro or something for that day.

My phone was being screwy, yes, but I think it's better now.

You've got my email, too, don't you? Send me the details! I'm curious.

Also, my DOFP Sentinel's a bit wobbly on the stand.

Weeza

I forgot what it was.....so send again please.

Bascially its the sentinels and the sentinel troopers vs. Mutants

maybe will throw in Nimrod and others as well...Insight is working on another sceniro just like the Avengers vs. Master of Evil we did awhile back.

turdburglar47
12/06/2006, 23:04
Ah, cool. Nimrod. Bastion. Wild Sentinel pogs. I only ever got one of those, and that's one of the few pogs I wouldn't mind.

Although is Bastion technically half-Nimrod? Doesn't matter, Nimrod's from the future, it can be explained away.

Hey fellas,

Hope you all had a great Christmas.

The Origin list is up on the rumor mill, and its looking pretty sweet. My Eagles took down our arch rival Cowgirls, and have a chance to win the division, and my Gators have a shot at the national title after New Years. Pretty darn sweet.

Have a great New Year, and brush up on the clix, cause I'm working on some fun scenarios so we can kick the year off right.

My best,

Vic

Hey guys, I'm sure they would LOVE that!

Be warned. They play for keeps. Theme teams might not cut it up there.

YOU HAVE BEEN TOLD!!!!!!! :p

Seriously, if you guys are headed up there (wish I was) Thursdays and Saturdays are the main times for Heroclix. Thursday's moreso.

Just a heads up!

And you guys weren't at the Battle for Galactus?

What up wit dat?

Thanks for the good word bubblehead. If we head out there we will have to roll up the sleeves and get nasty.

It might not be till the end of January or so, so keep an eye out.

So, Bullpen Boys... what's the game this weekend?

I'm heading up to the big-### 1500 point tourney Saturday afternoon at AllWays, by the way. Coyotejack's leavin' town, and he'll need a send-off. Anyone else?

insight
01/05/2007, 23:55
Damn, sorry I'll be missing that TB. Not only does it sound like fun, but Coyote is a class act and deserves the first class treatment. Do your best to help send him out proper, and give him my best.

I would particularly appreciate it if you would buy that man a beverage of his choice for me, and I will be sure to return that favor to you. When we went up there for pre-release he was a gentleman, and bought a round for the Bullpen Boys, and I'm sorry I won't get the chance to repay him the kindness in person.

Thanks for making the trek up to AllWays TB! I hope you had fun, I know I did! Glad I got to play Loki the way I've always wanted. heh heh Normally I wouldn't play in my own event but since there was only three of you, and I knew each of you would be getting a prize, I had to have some fun as well. Only wish we had another hour or so to see it's conclusion. That was a slobber-knocker!

And thank you, Insight, for the reciprocation of the drink. lol It was the least I could do for your band of merry men for driving up to see us. :)

I hear you about work Bubble...wish I never had to do it again. My work seems to have miraculously doubled since announcing my leave date.

My only hope is that I get to see you guys before I leave, but if not, I'll be trying my best to make the Cons AND I'll always be here as well!

turdburglar47

b) make me work on Saturday...which is worse than death,

then yup, I'll be there! lol

Ok, I'm going to rally the troops here for this coming saturdays(2/24) event at THE COMIC BUG.

why? cause you'll be playing for a Spectre.

yeah.. I know.. oooh... spectre. But come on. It's going to be a battle royale three booster draft. Depending on how many folks show up it'll be around four person battle royales and then move up from there.

Winner gets the spectre. Fellowship prizes will be determined

http://www.thecomicbug.com/heroclix.php

1015 Aviation Blvd
Manhattan Beach

Event is at 1pm
No cover besides the cost of three boosters of your choice.

If you want to sign up for it on wizkids, by all means feel free. Jun, the owner of the bug usually tosses goodies into the mix and makes it a fun event to go to.

I do like battle royals, generally more than one-on-ones. Tis a lot more social that way.

[Z?]NNY
02/19/2007, 07:29
yeah, seemed like the only way to keep it on equal playing grounds for all. Besides, it's a spectre for what is potentially the cost of three boosters.

Besides that I wanted to get some new blood at the comic bug. It's a nice venue and considering it had a fire over thanksgiving, they could use the help.

turdburglar47
02/19/2007, 07:35
Understood. It's apparently only 8 miles away from me, so I'm game to give it a shot, if I can... although there is a tourney up at AllWays for the Kang LE I'm kinda itchin' for... hmmm...

What kinda players, generally? Ubercompetitive or theme fun, or something in-between?

[Z?]NNY
02/20/2007, 04:13
It's generally theme fun scene. You get a couple of kids who try to learn the ins and outs. So it's nothing ubercompetitive.

turdburglar47
02/20/2007, 05:14
Cool. I'll need to investigate.

Has Comic Bug already had its tourney for the Kang LE?

[Z?]NNY
02/21/2007, 03:29
yeah, they had it two weeks ago. You still needed some supernova stuff, right?

turdburglar47
02/21/2007, 05:13
I'm actually doing pretty well on Supernova now. All I need is V Vindicator, E Vision and E Mantis. And LEs, of course.

[Z?]NNY
02/22/2007, 02:15
Hee, now I'm at the point of bribing. ;)

You can have those nons if you roll out to this event since I have plenty extras. I just want to make sure I get as many so cal folks coming to this as it should be an awsome event.

the trades should be good that day also.

02/22/2007, 23:25
Hey turdy -- where you from? I'm in Lomita which is about 10 miles from the Comic Bug in Redondo/Manhattan Beach. It's a fun place -- the owners are uber-cool and the regulars are all nice and not so super-competitive (well, one sometimes leans that way). I would call it competitve, fun play.

I'm looking forward to the booster draft. I just love booster drafts, regardless of the prize.

One of these times I'll make it over to Bullpen. Sunday just isn't the best day for me.

turdburglar47
02/23/2007, 03:16
I'm in Mar Vista, near Culver City, and the Bullpen is right down the street from me.

I like booster drafts, too, and Comic Bug is closer than the AllWays up in Chatsworth I go to sometimes... and I like battle royals... plus bribery!

Perhaps I'll just make do with my V Kang, and miss out on the LE....

Fun N Games in Lake Elsinore.

Gmi Comics and Collectables in Riverside.

i dig both. they have great atmosphere and employees, and the owners are devoted to all things game related.

Just wanted to say it was nice seeing the folks who made it out to The Game Zone Pre-Release.

I had a great time, I always love seeing and playing with the new figs.

It was cool to meet some new folks like Dave Zee, and I even got to play with Jason Levine, the judge at Always Gaming, which was fun.

I ran the Green Scar and Brood, and ended up winning 2 of 4 games. The ones I lost, I lost very badly, not even getting to roll an attack!

All in all good stuff. I hadn't been to the Game Zone since they remodeled. It is a really great venue. I was impressed.

I just bought my first HeroClix this week (I've already got about 75) and I'm wondering if there are any local places that still have a good-sized singles collection. I know you can buy them online, but it's more fun to buy them in person.

If you have any ideas I'd appreciate a private message. Thanks!

AllWays Gaming in Chatsworth still has Clix most every weekend. I think they're doing a 52-based event for the Clark Kent LE this week and using the 52 Event Dial. I'm sad to be missing it, but I'm out of town.
