... so, what to do with it?

Personally, I would like to find out who the other Australians are in the forum, and where they play. I suspect that some people from my venues read HC Realms, but I have no idea who they are!

Yeah I agree ZC. So here's some vital information to start off with;

-Where are you (city)?
-What is you local playing group and venue like (if you have one)?
-Which other Realmsers do you know personally?

I'm in Ballarat myself, the only judge in town. Years ago when I first got into HC, it frustrated me to no end that there wasn't any way for me to access LEs unless I drove down to Melbourne, which is about an hour and a half away. So I got a Melbourne judge to sponsor me and become one myself.

We have one tournament a month, with about a dozen players (although usually not everyone can make it). A very good group of guys- they're all great sports. My venue is the Games Cove, which is a really great little games shop in town and one of only 3 places you can buy clix (one other not having any figures later than Crtical Mass, and the other being K-mart!). Unfortunately their store doesn't have much space so we can't actually play in there. We play in the basement of a different store, which is actually really handy since the space isn't used for anything else so we can leave it set up all the time.

I know at least one guy from my playing group comes on Realms. His username is CensusTaker. We actually met through realms! Top guy, who unfortunately doesn't get to come to tourneys much because he's the lead singer in a band, which keeps him very busy. He's a really good player too- often plays very themey teams but is always dangerous to face. Very sharp!

I do know one Sydney realmser who goes by M.O.D.O.C. - I met him when I came up to Sydney a few years ago for the nationals, in my attempt to get Galactus. I came really close, making it through all the qualifiers undefeated, but then got knocked out in the semi-finals.

I know you're in Sydney too ZC. I assume there's a few venues around there. What are they like?

ooo...I didn't see this.

Anyway, I've never played HC Only collecting (So far) [108 at last count :p)
There is, from what i can see, no Playing groups on the gold Coast... I only know of one other HC Player/Collector. I've kinda Brought Every HeroClix Booster pack from Tweed heads to Surfers Paradise and everywhere in between... I'm happy about that fact :p

WakandaMan

Hey Status, my uncle lives on the Gold Coast. He told me he's seen clix singles at the markets up there a lot, so that suggests to me that there has to be a decent amount of players up there. Although, he might've been looking at Mage Knight or something- I'm sure he probably wouldn't know the difference. :p

In fact, I met a clix player from Qld (might have been Brisbane though) when I went to the nationals. Try doing a search on the Wizkids site for any events in your area. You'll probably be surprised.

ZC we can also use this forum to discuss anything that has to do with australia that no one else would care about. Such as the aussie rules grand final, or what's happenning in Lost at the moment (I've always been too scared to go onto the Lost thread in Another Realm in case our clixers across the Pacific would give away spoilers).

Okay, I just did a search on your behalf. Here's all the venues I could find in QLD that appear to be active with upcoming tournaments:

Samford Gaming Club
St Paul's Anglican Church
Samford Village QLD Australia

Fastbreak Sports
1 Chapel Street
Nundah QLD Australia

Comic Warriors Annerley
Shop 18 Annerley Arcade, 478 Ipswich Rd
Annerley QLD Australia

Ferny Hills Gaming Club
55 Ferny Way
Ferny Hills QLD Australia

Any of those near you at all? There could be more (I notice my venue didn't show up in the search for some reason).

- I'm in Sydney (obviously).
- These days I mostly play at Sydney Games Centre in Burwood (on Sunday afternoons) and the Tin Soldier in the city (on Thursday nights). I used to play a lot with the UNSW Gameplayers on campus in Kingsford, but those were obviously very informal games.
- I'm not sure what names the people I know might go by here. I do know M.O.D.O.C., and indeed he was at the Tin Soldier this Thursday night.

Venues in Sydney: SGC in Burwood is probably the main one - there are tournaments there every Sunday from 2pm until about five or six pm (depending on how organised everything is that day). Every week is a different "format" (tomorrow is a 600 point game in which all your characters and cards have to come from the same expansion), and it would be great to have that announced online so that if somebody doesn't know what it is one week, they can check the forums and find out.

People pay $5 to play, but that money goes towards buying boosters that are opened so that people can pick figures out in the order that they placed in the tournament. So even if you don't come first or second, there's a reasonable chance that you'll get a unique or a character that you want or need from the prize pool.

The Tin Soldier is a very friendly venue, but because of time limitations (playing after work on a weekday) and space (there isn't as much of it as there is at SGC) the tournaments are smaller and shorter (one or two reounds, depending). However, they are very friendly, social games, and we tend to have some "experimental" formats. One week we played "Everybody has Steal Energy on every click, and other forms of healing don't work" - that was fun. :)

I suspect that there might be games run at one of the game stores out in western Sydney (there's one in Blacktown and in Penrith) ut I haven't been out that way in awhile so I don't have that info.

I am from Perth, mainly a collector, been in from IC.

It seems that South Australia has a group of players, as I have traded with Keef from Adelaide.

the nearest is in Brisbane at a shop called the Daily Planet...I think...they do the weekly games...

I'm wanting to start something up, Like a weekly game, But there are some problems with that, 1: Finding a Venue, 2: Find the People to show up, 3: I need to learn how to play :p

Or perhaps it would help if they were posted on HC Realms? Would you prefer that such details be posted in this forum or in the Tournaments and Events forum?

This weekend is 500 points unrestricted - you must have five characters, each of whom is similar to a core JLA member. For example, a flying male brick to represent Superman, a grounded speedster to represent the Flash, a flying female brick to represent Wonder Woman, etc.

It's a "design your own JLA" event, basically.

Hail Comrades!

My name is Ben and I live in Townsville. Up to this point I am unaware of any venue or group that hosts games. Its just me :( I have to buy my clix from ebay as nowhere in Tsv sells them. I have recently traded with Keef though which has made things easier.

I am keen to trade so if you are interested please give me a hoi. I am DESPERATE to get my hands on the rev of Meggan (I dont have any atm) so please contact me if you can help.

Cheers,

Hi Ben ~

A friend of mine has been sent to Townsville by work, and he's despaired of meeting any clix players up there. He came down to Sydney last weekend, and that was the first game he's been able to play in months. I don't know what kind of trades he'll have, but if he can find a good time to get away from work he'd probably be interested in a game. If you PM me your email address or something I can pass it on to him.

Sorry to post in your thread again, but in regards to the "AUSSIE, AUSSIE, AUSSIE", it's all I know of your country. Call me ignorant, and I'm not even American! (j/k :p) I come from "multicultural and diverse" Canada !

Oh, and I can't forget Delta Goodrem. She's a hottie.

And Wolfmother is a rockin' band!

At the bus stop one day though, I was sitting and waiting next to some Aussie guy..... he starting talking to me outta nowhere. He was smoking some Aussie cigarettes, and some guy came along and asked for one. The Aussie said no, then turned to me and winked, "These cigarettes are from Australia! They're the ####ing best." I was like, "Um, yeah. Okay." And he was going on and on about why he was here, how his vacation was going, etc.

A bit of a strange incident, but a friendly guy nonetheless.

Other than that...... I'm almost completely ignorant about "Down Under".

"Aussie Aussie Aussie" is strictly a sporting cheer. It's the kind of thing you chant when drunk, surrounded by other drunk Australians, and fired up by national pride.

I think the best way to learn about a country (without actually visiting) is to watch mockumentaries made there. Comedy is often key to comprehending something! I understand the U.S. a little better after watching The Colbert Report and The Daily Show. For understanding Australia, watching The Chaser's War on Everything or maybe old episodes of Frontline would help.

I'm sure you can download these somewhere...

I'm from the western suburbs of Sydney, and as such play at Unlimited Hobbies in Blacktown. The main judge there, Draggor, posts here every now and again. We're a pretty relaxed bunch - always happy to help each other out, and the store owner is pretty supportive of us regulars.
Not that I'm advertising the place or anything... ;)

So, I just redesigned the SGC website, and now we have a HeroClix page that lists all our events, including that week's format! Huzzah!

I play @ SGC @ Burwood when I can and Unlimited Hobbies @ Blacktown when I can. They are the only two venues in Sydney that cater for Heroclix on a regular basis. Tin Soldier in the city did but I thought that kinda faded - though if ZC says it is kickin' then it must be. It was very social the couple of times it was convenient to go. You can get Clix there and @ Games Paradise (at varying prices but SGC Burwood is tops and UH great when they have what you want in stock). Tin Soldier Penrith and a few other stores do and have stocked Heroclix but do not hold events.

SGC is the place for the 'weekly' game. Competetive with a GREAT group of long-time players.

UH's games are not weekly but they will often (always?) run two events in a day making a day out to the venue worth one's while. There seems a tight and expanding scene evolving there - the Goblin has testified to as much.

Regards all.

Hi all,

I'm another sydney sider, who has gamed a couple of times at SCG and found it great.

Unfortunately non-gaming life gets in the way often on sunday afternoons, so I can't get there as often as I like.

This means that most of my 'clixing comes with friends. This was originally a problem as while I had friends who liked the game, they didn't like it enough to spend their own money on it, and were happy just to leech.. erm, borrow my stuff for the games. Fortunately I got some other friends addicted who were more than happy to lie to their wives about what they were spending their money on.

This week though I'm hoping to get to both Tin Soldier on Thursday _AND_ SGC on sunday. Obviously I need to find some time in there to buy chocolates and flowers for my wife, but it will be well worth it.

Anyway, that's a bit about me.

Cheers,
Robert

Keef, those locations could all be suburbs of Sydney... but are they not some similarly named suburbs in another state?

The Tin Soldier City news is cool (there is no Heroclix @ TS Penrith) just because I had no idea there were other venues up in the vast megalopolis running Clix now aside from Burwood and Blacktown.

If Keef's venues are in SA (may well be from Alien_Flanders' Keef in SA reference) it is still great to see player activity and interaction here. ZC's Venue List & Contacts idea is excellent. We all might travel one day...

I will put a want/haves list on my journal as soon as I work out how to use it and get a minute...

It's a good store, but I only know people by face not by name yet, I normally drop in on weekends, and generally get my bricks from there. Great range of singles too, I'm just unable to make it on game nights. (Made it once to the armour wars new guy night which was fun).

I will have to try and make another game night, Maybe the marque for supernova (always wanted to make one of those)

Hey guys... just wanted to say hello. I'm located just outside of Chicago, but years ago I was an exchange student to Australia during the 1988 World Expo.

I lived in Archerfield (Queensland) and went to Churchie for year 12.

If you need something from the states, I'd be happy to lend a hand if I can.

I still think I have a couple of issues of The Southern Cross comic book too but I can't remember the name of the store I use to go to.

My stupidest memory is standing at the train station looking at the map trying to find "woop woop" because this guy at school told me that's where he lived. I finally gave up and asked the conductor where woop woop was and he just laughed his arse off.

Kings Comics in Sydney has had them for at least the last two years.

I've got a FCBD Batman and one of the Wolverines. And also a rookie Hulk from IC, still in his protective plastic bubble. Probably worth heaps and heaps to a collector... ;)

Unfortunately the staff at Kings don't really know anything about clix - they have been known to give out the figures to random comic-buyers in handfuls, only to have nothing left when an actual clix player asks about them.

Man that sucks. There's not a lot of gaming stores over there anyway is there? I only found two when I first went there, and one of them (was a big old building near the station. Had buckets of older games and 2nd hand stuff) had closed the next time I went.

as far as i can tell, there's just not 8 players in perth willing to play
so instead, when they get prize support they just give them away with purchases of clix boosters
i scored a johnny thunder and mighty thor from them that way :)

there was someone who put up a poster at tactics looking for clix players, but when i contacted him, he said i was the only one who had... so that's me, 2 mates and a dude who lives an hour away from me that comprise the perth heroclix community
pretty sad
but what can you do?

'diagon alley'
that's awesome, next time we're in town i'm gonna tell my daughter that's what it is :) she'll love it (she's 4)

are Oz target stores stocking alpha clix?

Kings Comics had some; stores supplied by CM will probably have it by the end of next week.

Two Sydney venues that I'm familiar with:

The Tin Soldier Sydney
46 York Street
Sydney NSW 2000
02-92792668
Plays Thursday nights from about 6pm (generally "venue-supported" events - ie, scenarios and no LEs)

Unlimited Hobbies
94 Kildare Road
Blacktown NSW 2148
02-88148700
Play Sundays from about 12 noon (registered WizKids events)

I understand that folks do sometmes go to Good Games Burwood (formerly Sydney Games Centre), but with no active judge since Starro and no prize support since purple pants Fin Fang Foom, actual tournaments died out.

I'd love to know if there are other active Sydney venues or playing groups, even if they're too far out to visit - it would be great to keep in touch in case we want to hold a big eventy at one of the Sydney conventions (such as Macquariecon in December).
