She is stepping in for Invisible Kid...I couldn't afford Ant man. And Sue Storm was already taken. yeah, it had nothing to do with making my entire team stealth....:cheeky:

I didn't think the JLA would want her.

I did want Brainiac 5....now I have to figue out how much I want Braniac 5 and whether or not he is worth buying from the magic team. Cause if so, than I need to change my picks....

Yeah, I know, but again, that's 3 upgrades away, and you're trying to gain stats for the Rookie from Hypertime.

If and when we do a reboot, I'll do a JLA team with him on there. Then you'll see how it's done. I think he's level-up-able.

I think the reboot will happen. I think we'll need it. I'm off friday and plan to talk to Turtle about various things.

As for the stats things I doubt you'll get any extra opportunities to upgrade sorry.

I've done it this way on purpose.

Initially the goal was to get stats and upgrade whom you could. From here on in I expect people to have plenty who CAN upgrade. the strategy comes in picking the BEST upgrades.

Hey guys

Rules question. I drafted Rookie swordsman for my team, and notice that vet swordsman was just drafted for a Masters of Evil team. Will this effect my options when I'm upgrading my swordsman?

Also, I've been buying cheap figures to field a large team, is there a limit to the number of drafting rounds we will have?

1. We ruled that the V Swordsman is Philip Javert so the Vet will not be part of your progression. After the E you just get feats for him.

2. There will be as many drafting rounds as needed.

It was deemed that the RE Swordsman and V Swordsman are two different people...so you can't upgrade to the Vet...

And there's no limit to the number of rounds...keep going until you run out of points or want to stop. :)

And round 2 is done and over with!

As far as young Captain Boomerang's criminal past, he was a clear killer during Flash's Rogue War arc. A lot of it was suggested as he he hurled superspeed razor steel boomerangs into cops, with blood spurts drawn in.
Later, when confronted with a group of government scientists performing a zombie like interrogation on his father's corpse, he quibbles as whether or not to kill, then at a Rogue's encouragement ('first kill is the hardest'), goes for it, with accompanying blood spurt.
Maybe the hospital was treating a bunch of cops and scientists for boomerang wounds that day, but the book made him out to be a killer.

Bummer about Vet swordsman being blocked, I'll assume that that was listed in the rules somewhere and I missed it. Is there a place where rulings on REVs being different characters are listed?

Thanks
Zak

Oh it wasn't my pick, what would I ever use Cable for (actually... now that you mention it, he could have been a possible Scalphunter too)?
Cable was first drafted by those thrice-cursed cleptomaniacs from X-men Blue.

I was just refering to my proposed Alliance between the Marauders and the New Mutants against the thieving blue X-gits :)

I guess Cable felt he had to rush back and put a stop to that before things got out of order.

It might've been better for the X-Force team (New Mutants my buttocks) if they'd've waited to take Cable back after they were done drafting everyone else.

As it stands, they have cost themselves a draft pick, and cost the X-Blue a draft pick, while only managing to get something now that they could've just as easily gotten at the end of the draft without those other two nasty side-effects ...

... or the possible threat of repercussion.

As it stands, I would think that the X-Blue can continue drafting X-Forcers, forcing X-Force to buy them back at the elevated rate, while stockpiling the additional points to spend themselves after everyone else is 'done' drafting this round.

Yeah, it may cost them getting certain figures. But, if they didn't have any particular needs to fill, they could potentially pile up a huge amount of points to spend later at the expense of the team that just 'wronged' them.

I did it now because he is one of the last few people I am interested in getting and so that X-men blue good get someone they needed in his place in the next round. And Cable was a part of the new mutants for a while. If I was going for X-force I would have named it that and stolen Domino.

And sorry about the steal X-men blue, but I felt I really needed Cable's thematic outwit with all my young new mutants.

Question about the timing of trades and 'buy backs'

Why do we need to wait until the draft is over? I got an offer from someone looking to get enough points to buy one of their figs back.

If we can't trade right now how does this guy draft his figure back? Can he buy the figure back after the draft?

What about the guy who loses a 'bought back' figure after the draft is over? Does he get an opportunity to spend the points or does he run short handed for the rest of the season??

Why do we need to wait til the draft is over for trade?

Quite simply. Right now JacinB has Dr. Fate. If he traded him, he'd be locked-in and couldn't be stolen.

Now that wouldn't exactly be fair for someone who might have Dr. Fate as thematic choice to not even get the chance of buying it off JacinB.

If we can't trade right now how does this guy draft his figure back? Can he buy the figure back after the draft?

Stealing/buying is done instead of one of you draft choices.

What about the guy who loses a 'bought back' figure after the draft is over? Does he get an opportunity to spend the points or does he run short handed for the rest of the season??

Inquiring minds want to know.

Since this is done as a draft choice, he has those points ready for the next round.

I know it's strategically better to wait until your last pick to do stealing, but it might be more sportsman-like to do it up front, so that the person you're stealing from can actually put the points to good use.

So since somebody has pretty much warned me to expect a stolen draft pick, say, around his last pick, what happens if I've already finished my drafting before then? Am I unable to use my recruit points until the mid-season?

Why does the player who had a character stolen from them HAVE to be screwed? Why can't we just make a rule that allows them an opportunity to spend their points in the event of the draft being over?

That just seems like common sense to me. If characters are being stolen, players should be given opportunities to replace them at the very very least.

Basicly:

If you get stolen from, you can re-enter the draft and use those points right away.

If you make a trade involving points, you can't re-enter the draft and need to save those points for the mid-season draft (if there is one).

Correct?

Correct.

BUT, if a player doesn't wait til the end of the draft to do a steal, then there's no problem at all.

Like in the instance with the New Mutants stealing Cable.

The X-men Blue got those points immediately. And now for round 3 they have more points, they've re-adjusted their next pick, and life goes on.

And again, if a steal does happen at the end, the player who gets stolen from, can re-enter the draft and use those points.

That's for players entering in for the first time. (They have a 200 pt core team, and get 250 for draft. Thus 450 max)

And that rule would ignore if you earned more points from a steal.

It's basically there to let them know, that 450 is what your team can go up to as a new player (except from earning pts from a steal, like X-men Blue did)

two do I have to pay the +50% penalty if the character has my team ability on his dial in his/her progression but not at his/her currently drafted level??

You can't steal a character if they don't currently have your TA on their current level.

For instance, if someone had R Ult Mr. Fantastic, I couldn't steal him, becasue the Rookie doesn't have the FF TA.

Now sometimes this rule is bent for those non-TA teams like Marauders of Hellfire Club, but this is the rule.

I would like to step forward and admit that, for the time being, I am the man known as EDITED.

I have some needs, and they are not more cowbell, that need to be filled. I have a chance to make a huge steal and neuter another DC squad while ending up with a redundant power (although it's something you could never have too much of), or I can sit here and continue with my draft to fill said needs.

I promised Turtle a resolution by Noon today...I am 6 minutes late and wracking my brain to figure out the best solution.

Screw another player in the league, which would be in keeping with the rules, or keep it fun.

Doesn't help that someone has said "You came in DEAD last first season...I'd do it"....they're right. Give me 5 and I'll be back with an answer.

I completely agree with the above statement.

However, I disagree with doing it in THIS league. Because we have 20 players for DC (counting Indy), and with Iceman's luck, he won't even play against whoever he is trying to screw.

CurBludgeon
08/10/2006, 13:37
Two factors here:

1) Whether Iceman can live with himself for doing it. The legality of it is not in question; he CAN do it. But if he likes himself less for doing it, then it's not worth it.

2) Whether it's the best pick for his team. And frankly, I'm not sure it is. Even with the cheapest version of this mystery figure, Iceman's looking at an action disadvantage with most of the figs in his roster, as they tend to count in at the expensive side. I might be looking to fill gaps where they're more needed here.

But, the thing is, the character that (I think) he's looking at stealing gives him a lot of options, including downgrades and upgrades, that would really help his team.

Action disadvantage or no, the character that (I think) he wants to take would be a real benefit overall to his team.

But, the thing is, the character that (I think) he's looking at stealing gives him a lot of options, including downgrades and upgrades, that would really help his team.

Action disadvantage or no, the character that he wants to take would be a real benefit overall to his team.

And how can he NOT..I mean it's freakin EDITED, the EDITED EDITED EDITED!

Yeah I don't think it would be majorly screwing him over...but it WOULD put him at a somewhat big disadvantage...that character was pretty darn annoying last season...;) It helped me a whole lot...

Said person still has a lot of firepower in my opinion. And getting 128 pts from the whole thing could definately add to that power.

Yeah, I'm not among those convinced that the person who'd be stolen from would be all that hurt by the theft. I mean, he's got a lot of other options at his disposal, as well. And, the additional points might be just enough to encourage him to take a few characters from other teams to fill the gap.

You have no characters thus far that are eligible to be stolen. Joker is the only one who changes teams and he's locked in because he was a part of your core team

The only other possibility is Azrael, but no one is running a Bat Allies team, so he can't be stolen either.

I'm not worried about ME. I'm worried about potential ####storms on the horizon. Cuz just like you, I care. And if someone were to quit mid-season because half their team got stolen because they upgraded, then I'd probably sympathize with that person pretty easily. The idea of a draft is to be able to have random and exciting teams. Right now it seems like the system is working so hard to streamline into theme that it could cripple teams mid-season, which I don't like, even if that doesn't include my own.

It looks like I had jumped the gun on correcting my correction on the last pick of Round 2.

What I orginally had assumed was Katana, and then corrected with Speedy (CD) was incorrect.

The actual 2nd Round Draft pick for the Outsiders was G'nort.

I blame the mistakes on all those who keep asking for more draft picks, thus rushing me and messing with my better judgement to wait for final confirm.

And you know who you people are;)

Well that might be true, but really the stealing is in there for two reason

a) a little drama can be fun

b) so that people who might want to go theme can pay the price if they want to

Theme isn't required by any means, but we do like to encourage it, because those who play themed games usually care less about winning and more about playing "their team"

But you do have a very valid point.

I would hate to see anyone quit because of a steal. That would make me upset/sad.

Batman pulls the old "I don't have any powers, I don't belong," card and leaves the JLA again after the whole OMAC situation....Richard persuades him to come help the Outsiders in their fight...since they obviously don't do so well without him.

The Monitors learn that Donna Troy should've died (in 52 Week 12) instead of Jade and bring back Jenny, but in a random, unexplainable turn of events create two of her. Now there is one on the Outsiders (G'Nort) and on the JSA (Jade).

Couple of ideas that I've been mulling while Thawmus has been generating rue.

1) Expansion of the playoffs. Last season, there were 10 DC teams and 14 Marvel teams (although we had lost some and were now faux), with 4 playoff spots each.

This season, we're starting with 20 DC/Indy teams and 26 Marvel teams. I propose that we double the number of playoff teams to a nice 8-team bracket. It does the league no good to have most of its teams relegated to a long, quiet off-season (although the sparring with Galactus was fun).

I'd even be down with giving Marvel say, 2 more teams to its playoff bracket and working out some kind of wild card/bye system, a la the NFL. That way it would give the folks in the more populous league a more fair chance of making the post season.

2) This idea, I'm not so sold on. But some of you might like it: homefield advantage. Currently that means you get 2 heavy objects to the other team's 1, plus choice of setup. What if we expand home field advantage the way sports teams do it? HSS flying teams might say, "We kick butt in that DC outdoor map. Let's make that our Metrodome/Lambeau field/Fenway."

So basically, everyone gets to choose a "home" field, and when you look at the schedule for next week's game, you can prepare your team accordingly. "Oh, I know Thawmus and his Batman Enemies have that clear Danger Room map. I better bring out my ranged attackers."

The down side to this would be you wouldn't get much variety in terms of map choice, and you'll play your season in the same map half of your games. But it would provide more strategic pre-planning and a more "sportsy" theme thing going on.

Like I said, I'm not so sold on this idea. But I think the first one really should be implemented.

Nope....it shows the total total...

So I have a bit more points than what is stated on the front page, right?

This has actually been asked by several players, and I'm sorry if it's not clear.

The amount of points you have left for drafing is right next to your draft order in Post #6 on the first page of this thread.

It's says the name of your team and next to it, how many points you have left.

Here's the link, but it is on the front page

On post 7 is the total points you have..which is 360...so you can only draft 90 points more to make that 450 point max for beginners...

You've got 149 left.

EDIT: Everybody beat me to it.

Why do you think I'm scoring with JLH? I have to ensure that I'm a one-species man!!!

Looking at that, our future rounds should go much much faster, now that a bunch of people don't have enough points to draft anymore.

speaking of Love Hewitt...anybody watch that Ghost Whisperer show she was on? Is it even still on? And man...those bangs have got to go...;)
