View Full Version : The Official Fantasy Heroclix League Season 2
Welcome one and all to the Heroclix Fantasy League Season 2.
This is an ongoing campaign that tries to echo some of the same elements that can be found in "Fantasy Football" or "Fantasy (insert any sport)". The goals are to have a fun and quick way of playing heroclix that interacts players competitive and allows them to manage a team and resources (like a coach of sorts)
Below you'll find our "Quick Start Rules". It's a very brief overview of our system, and it hopes to spark some interest.
Below that you'll find our complete rules.
And further below that you'll find links to some great resources for on-line play, including a link to a "Play by Post" tutorial.
We try to keep things easy, but sometimes adding extra "fun" things seems to making things more complicated. But here's our attempt, hope you enjoy! :)
QUICK START RULES
Each player will start with a 500 point team. Of which 200 points must represent their team ability (I have JLA as my team, 200 points must be JLA members)
The other 300 points will be drafted and can be anyone not being used already.
Games will played from your pool of characters in 300 points squads.
There will be two Pre-Season games, that don't towards your record but help in getting experience.
Each of the two divisions (Dc and Marvel) will host 6 Regular Season Games. Your team will play other teams.
Each team gets experience in the battle (used for promoting characters). Teams will also earn points used for recruitment for winning and losing battles.
After the regular season the top 8 teams in each division go into a Post-Season. The winner of each division face off in a Marvel vs. Dc Super Bowl
We will also hold a "Player's Choice Awards". This will be a system set in place for rewarding teams with additional recruitment points. Players will vote on the teams that felt were "Best Sportsmanship" and "Best Themed Team” and other such awards.
After this, each team is given a set amount of recruitment points for the new season and a draft period begins.
Then the season starts over.
During the season you can trade, sell and upgrade your characters.
Complete Rules
Introduction
The Heroclix Fantasy League is a system designed to use the characters and combat dials of Heroclix for a progressive, team-oriented, sports-like campaign. You begin with a group of characters and by fighting other teams, your characters and your team build up experience points which allow you to slowly promote your characters to higher power levels and recruit new characters, all while staying within the parameters of the regular Heroclix combat system.
New Terms
While most of the terminology in this campaign will be the same as in the regular games of Heroclix, there are some new terms that will be used in these rules and in the campaign.
• Stat Points: Much like in sports, certain characters excel at different aspects in the game of Heroclix. While Dennis Rodman lead the way in rebounds, he may not have been particularly useful at making a Three Point shot. The same can be said about Heroclix, Not every hero/villain will be able to land an attack that causes 7 clix of damage. This system allows for characters to gain experience by doing what they do best. Stat Points are what is used to promote a character to a higher level (See Gaining Experience)
• Recruitment Points: Are earned from the actually winning and loosing of matches. Winning a game will earn you 5 points. Losing a game will earn you 10 points. Being divisional Champ will earn you 20 points. Being "Super Heroclix Bowl" will earn you 40 points. Bonus Recruitment points can be earned "Post-Season" and in our "Player's Choice Awards".
Building Your Team
To start, you of course need to have a team. Your initial team must be within the following parameters:
• You must have at least 5 members on your starting team.
Choosing a team of 500 occurs in two stages:
• The first 200 points will be chosen and submitted to your editor for approval. These 200 points must have the Team Ability of your team on any version of their dial. (Thus, if your team was the JLA, the Huntress could be on the team, since she has the JLA TA on her veteran version, but Kilowog could not be on the team, since his only version has the Green Lantern TA.)
• You must have at least 2 characters that fall in this category.
• Characters bought in this initial 200 points are considered "Locked-In" and can not be bought by another team, unless retired by controlling player.
• The second part is through a draft. After drafting order has been selected you can buy any character with your 300 points.
• There will be a "signing bonus" program, you can get a discount on members with the same team ability.
Here's the "Signing Bonus" Chart
Characters of 1-30 points get 5 points off
Characters of 31-100 points get 10 points off
Characters of 101- 300 points get 15 points off
• Marvel can draft Marvel figures, Dc can draft DC figures, and Indy can draft Indy pieces. But Marvel can not draft Dc and Indy and Dc can not draft Marvel and Indy and Indy can not draft Dc and Marvel The only way a player can get an opposing division characters is to trade for them.
Special Exceptions: If you think a character deserves to be on your team, but he does not have the correct TA (such as Unique Flash (Jay Garrick) and Starman on the JSA) you may appeal to the Editor’s good nature for an allowance in the matter.
• All characters on your team must be morally aligned with your team representation. (IE; If you pick the JLA, you can recruit any DC Hero made in heroclix)
Special Exceptions: If a character is normally aligned towards a certain morality but was briefly on the opposite side with a certain team, that specific team can draft them. (IE; Ravager is normally a villian in comics, however; currently she's on the Teen Titans. Hence, Ravager can be recruited by a villian team or the Teen Titans)
• All characters must begin at the version with the lowest point value, unless that version is an LE.
• Special Exceptions: The only other restriction on which characters you can or can not draft come from moral alignment. If you are a good guy team, you can only draft good guys, and if you are a bad guy team, you can only draft bad guys. Characters that are considered “neutral” will be at the discretion of the refs.
• Ultimate versions or Elseworld versions of characters are not in the same REV progression (Example: I recruit Armor Wars Captain America, I do not have access to Ultimate Captain America) (exception: Kingdom Come characters are considered the last progression of a regular version character)
• In the case of characters with multiple REV progressions. (Spider-Man, Elektra, Batman) you can have two options:
- Recruit the lowest cost version (ignoring any LE's that might be of lowest cost)
OR
- Recruit the most expensive Rookie from the most expensive REV progression. (Example: Rookie Robin from Hypertime cost 17 points. Rookie Robin from Collateral Damage cost 32 points. You can decide to recruit either)
Either way, your promotions will follow the more expensive REV progression. When you upgrade to a new level, you have automatic access to any character of the same name for less points.
(Example: I recruit Starter Spider-Man for 40 points. I upgrade him once to his most expensive rookie, which happens to be his Mutant Mayhem Rookie at 70 points. I now have access to any Spider-Man figure less than 70 points. My next upgrade would be his Mutant Mayhem LE version, then the Experienced, then the Veteran and then any Unique that are more expensive than the Veteran)
• Once you have built your team, the difference in build total you have left is put in your bank. (Thus, if you construct a 176 point team before the draft, leaving 24 points unused, you get 24 points extra for the draft immediately. If after the draft you have 440 point team, when the next draft comes around you have 10 points extra.)
• When starting your team you will be started with 1 Feat card that is for your whole team. You use that feat on any one character on your team during any match. The feat can be assigned to any one character who qualifies. It can be re-assigned each battle. (subject to Editors approval). You may suggest feats that you believe to be appropriate but the editor will have the final say in this.
Gaining Experience
Experience is earned in the following ways:
• There are 4 categories in which a character can earn a "Stat Point":
Successful Attacks: Making a successful attack of any type (Ranged attack, Mind Control, Support) earns you 1 Successful Attack Stat Point (or 1 SA). If you earn 10 SA's, you character can promote to the next level or purchase a new feat (subject to Referee's approval)
KO's: Making an attack that ends in KO'ing a character will earn you 1 KO Stat Point (Or 1 KO). If you earn 5 KO's, you character can promote to the next level or purchase a new feat (subject to Referee's approval)
Assist: Characters who assist in their teammate’s attacks can be awarded 1 Assist Stat Point (or 1 AST). An Assist is classified as any non-attack action (including a free action) which helps a teammate to either hit their opponent (such as Outwitting Super Senses or using PC to hit), or do extra damage to an opponent (Such as Enhancement or Perplex). The assist must occur on the same turn as the attack. Common powers which are used as assists are TK, Outwit, Perplex, Enhancement, and Probability Control. If multiple characters make an assist on the same attack, every character can earn 1 AST. If you earn 10 AST's, you character can promote to the next level or purchase a new feat (subject to Referee's approval)
NOTE: If you use perplex or any other effect that modifies and replaces defense/attack/damage values, an AST is only awarded if the modification was needed. You do not get an AST for modifying a value that you did not need modified to make a successful attack.
(Example: I attack someone on their last clix of life. I already do 3 damage. I modify my damage up one with perplex. No AST given, because the attack would have caused the KO normally)
Defend: Characters who assist their teammates in actively stopping an attack can be awarded 1 Defend Stat Points (or 1 DFD). A Defend is classified as any Power that actively stops a teammate from avoiding damage (such as using Probability Control to re-roll a successful attack into a failed attack). Common powers which are used as Defends are Probability Control, Barrier, Outwit (but only outwitting Charge, Run-Shot or Hyper Sonic Speed), and of course Defend. If you earn 10 DFD's, you character can promote to the next level or purchase a new feat (subject to Referee's approval)
So for instance, I have Moondragon TK the Hulk who's carrying a Heavy Object, and the Hulk then attacks Blue Beetle and does 6 damage. Moondragon would earn 1 AST Stat Point, Hulk would earn 1 SA Stat Point and 1 KO Stat Point.
Upgrades occur at the end of the regular season matches. You may upgrade on character at the end of any match. MVP’s are exempt from this rule and can upgrade even if you have another character upgrading.
SEASON 3 EXCEPTION
In Season 3, you can upgrade as many characters who are able to upgrade once after each match (IE; Elongated Man has enough STATs to upgrade three times, Green Flame and Martain Manhunter could upgrade once. Thus at the end of a Regular Season match, Elongated Man, Green Flame and Martian Manhunter can all make one upgrade, leaving Elongated Man enough STATs to upgrade later on)
Once a character uses a particular Stat for upgrade (I have earned 6 KO Stat Points and I upgrade Hulk) All of that character's stats in that category are re-set at zero (even though it only costs 5 KO’s to upgrade, his KO STAT is set to zero, all other STATs remain). Hulk can not use KO Stat points to upgrade again until he uses another Stat to upgrade (like 10 SA Stat Points)
Selecting a Squad
At the beginning of each battle, you must select a squad out of your team that will engage the opponents. The squad must fit the following requirement:
• No matter what your point total is, you start of with a 300 point squad.
Once your squad is selected, your Editor will put the matching up. The Editor will also randomly select a battlefield condition for you battle, this will be to simulate "weather conditions".
When selecting your squad for battle, there is no rule that restricts who you will use in battle, except if you character gets “benched”.
If members of your squad are wounded (see below) and you can take them out of your squad, or if you just want a break, you can choose to have a no-contest fight. You must declare a "no-contest" before the first turn is made by you. The win goes automatically to the opposing team (they earn 600 pts, and you earn nothing), the games goes on as normal for experience reason. Thus, 4 members of my team are on the injured list, I select to give declare "no contest". I then play the game as normal, and it is considered training for both players.
Injuries do not occur during “No-Contest” matches.
Getting Wounded
If a hero is the victim of a Critical Hit or rolls their own Critical Miss in a battle, if they are used in the next game, the have -1 modifier to their attack and defense. This represent an "injured" player.
Characters who begin a fight "injured" will go back to full health if they do not become the victim of another critical hit or critical miss in the next battle.
However, if they do receive a critical hit or roll their own critical miss twice in the same game, at the end of the battle the Referees will roll one die. On the result of 6, that character is permanently "benched" for the rest of the season.
If a player uses an injured character in the next game and they do receive a critical hit or roll their own critical miss a second time (1 in each of two games consecutively), at the end of the battle the Referees will roll one die. On the result of 5 or 6, that character is permanently "benched" for the rest of the season.
Remember that a hero can be dropped from your squad at the beginning of any fight. Thus, it would probably be a good idea to take an injured character out rather than leaving him in the squad. That should usually be all it takes to prevent any of your characters from going on a permanent injured list.
If a character has Regeneration anywhere on his dial, and this character gets is "injured", at the end of the battle, roll one die. If the result is a 4, 5, or 6, the character does not take any "modifier" into the next fight. (If he fails the roll, it simply means the wounds are so great that they take a longer time to heal).
Injuries are ignored during practice games. (Pre-Season or No-Contest Games)
Feats
At the beginning of the season, each team will be assigned one team feat. This is a feat that any one person (who qualifies the pre-reqs) can use during the match. Players can submit their top choices for team feats, but it will ultimately be decided upon by the Refs.
• Feats can be bought instead of promoting a character by using the same pre-requisites of Stat Points.
• All feats still have to have approval from a Referee. This is because, while everyone qualifies for Haymaker, not everyone thematically would use Haymaker in a battle. (For instance, Nightcrawler would never use Haymaker) This should be only meant to stop feat abuse (like In Contact With Oracle)
• Protected and Lucky Break will not be given as a team feat. And Protected and Lucky Break will only be given to one character per team. (So choose wisely)
Recruiting new characters
The quality of this campaign most similar "Drafting" in Fantasy Sports Leagues. The only time you can recruit is at after the "Post-Season" but before "Pre-Season", during our draft period. However, you can trade with another player between any game.
During Draft time, all players will get a standard 50 points for recruitment, plus all recruitment points earned during the regular season for wins and losses, plus post season and "Super Bowl" point earned. Additional points will be given out during player voting.
At the end of drafting, you must maintain at least 2 members that still have affiliation with your chosen team.
If you draft a character that was previously promoted, it can be drafted at any level of experience that has been un-locked. (I retire Exp Critical Mass Daredevil at 43 points, anyone can draft a version of Daredevil that is 43 points or less)
This rules lapses after 1 Season of a character not being played. So if Daredevil is retired after Season 1, and is not picked up in Season 2 by another player, in Season 3 Daredevil must start at his cheapest version.
If a character is promoted to a new version that has the Team Ability of another team in the campaign, the other team may recruit the character from the team that currently has them. To do this, the team simply pays their cost +50% their recruitment cost to the other team. (Thus, if Black Canary is on the JSA, and the player who is running the JSA promotes Canary to Experienced, she now has the JLA Team Ability. If another player is running the Justice League, that player can recruit the Black Canary from the JSA immediately, paying the JSA player the cost +50% what it would cost to recruit her from the queue. The JLA team now has Black Canary in the roster, and the JSA team now has 54 recruitment points to use, cost +50% Exp. Black Canary's cost). The only restriction, is you can not buy "Locked-In" characters (characters from the initial 200 point Team Ability Selection, or traded characters).
If a team bought a generic in draft, and there choice was thematic, they could buy as many Rookie version as desired (with only the initial signing bonus). (IE; the Armies of Darkseid wanted to buy a Rk Parademon Scout and decided to buy 4 of them, the cost would 4 x 13 pts = 52 pts - the initial signing bonus of 5 pts = 47 pts.)
The STATs culminated by each Parademon would be added together for upgrading purposes For instance, player used 4 Parademons. Parademon 1 get 1 SA and 1 KO, Parademon 2 gets 2 SA's and Parademon 3 & 4 get nothing. Their STATs would look like this
Parademon (4 Rookie)
SA [3] KO [1] AST [0] DFD [0]
When upgrading a player could pick to get a new Parademon at the lowest level or upgrade on version to it's next level. For instance, the Minions get 10 SA's the upgrade one Parademon to the Exp level thus they now have 3 Rookie versions and 1 Exp version. The next game they have 5 KO's, they could upgrade the Exp version to a Vet, a Rookie version to it's Exp version or pick another version at Rookie value.
Restictions
1) It would need to be a 100% thematic choice. So if the JLA pick up a HDC Trooper, they can only get one of him, and he would upgrade as normal with no option of recruiting additional HDC Troopers.
2) A player only recieves one LE version of a generic.
3) If a player wishes to trade a generic, they can only trade one version to another player. If they do so, they loose all other version bought, which are automatically cashed out for recruitment points.
Retiring characters
At the end of the Season, all teams must retire all but the 3 characters. They can be drafted again, but first must be retired. Divisional winners are exempt from this rule.
Players who make it into the finals, can retire all but 4 characters.
Super-hero Bowl winners can choose keep their entire team.
If you retire a promoted character, it can be drafted again at any level of experience that has been un-locked. (I retire Exp Critical Mass Daredevil at 43 points, anyone can draft a version of Daredevil that is 43 points or less)
You receive the cost of the character back in Recruitment Points when they are retired. If the player has been voted an MVP, you can get its cost +50%
This is a good idea to keep in mind as another way to keep your team upwardly mobile. For instance, if Robin's on your team and you’ve leveled him up to Veteran a while ago, and he's considered a MVP, and have gotten to such high-point games that you decide he’s no longer useful, you can sell him back and get a good start toward having enough points to recruit a higher-point character.
Trading Characters
A player can trade and character on their team for another character from another team. This can only occur after a game and during the regular season. You can use accrued Recruitment Points or Characters in your trade negotiations. Traded characters are considered "Locked-in" and can not be bought by another player
Moral Alignment still restricts trading.
Player Ranking
At the end of the season, players will get to be nominated for certain category and earn extra recruitment points.
For instance, in the Category of "Best Sportsmanship". The players can the vote on one of the teams they think earns this title for the season. The winning team will earn 10 extra recruiting points for next season draft.
Categories will consist of things like, "Most Thematic Teams", "Best Strategic Player" and other such categories.
Also, Editors will decide on a player from each team that deserves the MVP award. Each MVP will be given a FREE Feat at the start of the new season and if are retired get retired at cost +50%.
Wins and Losses
You wins and loss records will determine if you make it into the "Post-Season". The top 8 teams in each division will have a play off. The winner in each division of the play-off will compete in a "Super Bowl".
In every match the winner earns 5 Recruitments Points. The looser earns 10 Recruitment Point. This ensures a balance in power. Loosing teams will earn more, while winning teams will play more games.
Post-Game Etiquette
At the end of each match we ask that each player post their current Stat Point accumulation for each character on the team, and your total recruitment points earned thus far.
Also notate any injured characters and immediately post the next squad who play in your next game.
Delay of Games
Real life tends to get in the way, and this league tries to be as accomodating as possible.
In Post-Season and Regular Season games, any lack of turns after a 48 hour period will have a ref fill in for two turns to keep things moving.
However, if a player has a sub for 3 or more games, they are disqualified for the play-offs.
A game will only be considered to have had need a subsititute when the subsitute plays for more than half the game.
In the Post-Season, delays of game are more closely monitored. No one will fill with a subsitute during the Post Season. And 3 such delay of games will be an automatic loss.
Scheduling
Pre-Season Games will last 15 turns or two weeks max.
Regular Season and Post-Season Games will last 15 turns or 3 weeks max.
Games will start early if all teams finish early.

FAQ
"Hey do I get a DFD for Super Senses?"
A: No, you only get a DFD point if one character actively prevents an opponent character from making a successful attack on a team-mate. This can include outwitting Hypersonic/Charge/Run Shot, using Smoke Clouds to add a hindering terrain modifier, using barrier to prevent line of fire. But again, only if it saves a team-mates butt! And the opponents character must not be able to make a successful attack on the next turn. If I use Barrier with Invisible Woman, and place it squarely around Invisible Woman, I don't get a DFD.
"Hey, who does Mind Control work?"
A: If you succeed in a Mind Control attack, you get an SA (no matter what the mind controlled figure does/does not do).
If you KO a figure with someone under your control, the Mind Controller gets a KO Stat.
If you move someone using Mind Control, so that you can make an attack you couldn't before, the Mind Controller get an AST Stat.
"Hey, what about flurry and Hypersonic Option 2?"
A: Flurry is two attacks. You can earn 2 SA stats (as well as any applicable KO's)
Hypersonic #2 is one attack with many dice rolls. All damage is dealt out as one attack. So you get 1 SA Stat.
"Hey, can I get an AST for taxi-ing?"
A: Nope, too subjective.
"What if I push my character to KO myself, who get's the KO point?"
A: The last person to do damage on that character.
Wait, someone rolled for PC and I wouldn't have used PC on that attack roll, what do I do?
A: It is the responsibility of the controlling player to give specific instructions on how Probability Control, Protected or Mastermind should be applied. This can be as basic as:
"First successful attack"
or
"First successful attack that does more than "X" damage"
or
"First successful attack that requires a roll of "X" or more"
or you can even say
"Please ask if I would like to use "insert power" after every attack. Thank you for you patience"
If specific instructions are not given, it will be assumed that the power will activate on the first successful attack. Even if it would not have been the "best" move, it is at the penalty of the controlling player for not being specific.
How do pogs work?
A:
1) No pogs from the map sets
2) Must be 100% thematic.
3) No signing bonus on pogs
4) Pogs do not count towards the 5 player minimum rule, or the 2 characters from your core team rule.
5) This is under probation. If it feels like pogs are being abused for some reason, they could be yanked mid-season. So play nice.
"I really am not understanding how I upgrade if I have multiple REV sets of the same character, like Superman"
A: Well, start with picking either the cheapest version (sans any LE) or the Rookie from the most expensive REV set.
If you choose, the Rookie from the most expensive REV set, then you must be talking about the Rookie Superman from Icons. We can make that determination from the fact that the Icons Veteran is more expensive than the Veteran Superman from Hypertime or Collateral Damage.
So here's your progression (progression in bold, upon progression in italics):
R Superman (CD) 105 pts
E Superman (CD) 120 pts

What paying 197 pts initially is too much? Ok, you can start with the cheapest Superman possible, here's how your upgrading chart looks now:
R Superman (CD) 105 pts (Starting)
E Superman (CD) 120 pts
U Superman (HT) 125 pts

Clear as mud for everyone?
"What if I hit someone who's using protected, and I do no damage, do I get an SA?"
A: Yes, an SA is earned.

Suggestion/Request: A list of all figures that have been upgraded and are available for drafting. For those of us who're new and don't know what E's (or Vs, if any) are available, or if any of the Rookies have a feat on them that might be nice to know about.

Glad I'm not the only one that's really excited about this season (even though I'm a League rookie). :)
Yay! I found a figure that near-perfectly reflects Major Disaster from the JLElite miniseries.
And it's a villain. Dangit. So much for that idea.

Hey Turtle,
Since I made it to the finals, do I get to lock in another figure?
If so I'd like to lock in the Symbiote. He's going to be my stand in for Morph.
I was looking at all the different figs that could be a stand in for Morph and was considering trying to trade for the Elongated Man when I realized that the Symbiote was as good a reprsentation of Morph as anyone was.

Rethinking Generics
You know, if we made generics more playable in League terms, that would make teams like Shield, Hydra and even the Skrulls playable options.
Here is what I am thinking:
If you have only the R unlocked then you can field only one R.
When you unlock the E figure, then you can field (at the most) one E and two R's (or less of course).
When you unlock the V version, then you can field (at the most) one V, two E's and three R's (or less of course).
When you unlock the LE version (if there is one), then you can field (at the most) one LE, two V's, three E's and four R's (or less of course).
Only stat points gained by the highest version of the figure fielded count toward upgrading. Stat points gained by lower versions are NOT counted.
So, once I unlock my V Generic, I can field VEERRR or just the Vet or just a rookie or a couple of E's. Only stat points gained by the highest version that I chose to play count toward upgrading to the LE.
Thoughts???

Hey Stepper, I plan on recruiting Atom Smasher/Nuklon ;) lol
Yeah I was thinking that myself. have 1 thread that was just rules and stats and standings. 1 for general talk and fun. A questions thread, and a trade thread.
Exactly. Just continually bumping this thread is great for the publicity and all, but as TMNT just evidenced, is it even neccessary anymore?
I think this would be much easier to manage and use for everyone if it had it's own forum.
I dunno why the RPSC doesn't do the same.

I might also add.....
If we're going to have 21+ games going on at one time, we might want a subforum as well, seperating out DC, Marvel, and Indy games.......and not hijack the play by post forum......
That seems awfully complicated. Just say "If it's a generic, you can draft as many of them as you want." And then be very specific about what is and isn't a generic, and what you play a game, make sure you ID each one, ie, SHIELD Sniper #1, SHIELD Sniper #2, etc.
However, I -do- like that rule for one purpose and one purpose only: Multiple Man.
Multiple Man is gonna have special rules, Vance and I are still ironing out.
We want him to play competively, yet thematic, yet fair.

I don't really like it. For one, your first few games are going to be hell. For two, your ONE figure is going to get a hell of a lot of stats from your MULTITUDE of figures in play.
I think generics should be locked by the owner who drafts them, but they have to draft each and every one they are going to use.

Here's some info which may or may not be useful.
I ran a quick check on Battle Planner to see how many figs existed in each universe, subtracting the pogs and Galactus and Spectre (think I forgot about the Phoenixes; like I said, this was quick). This is the breakdown:
Universe: total (R/E/V/U/LE)
Marvel: 1,234 figs (307/318/314/120/175)
DC: 682 figs (166/177/173/66/100)
Indy: 143 figs (36/36/36/12/23)
Pretty sure this doesn't include GL Corps or Invincible, but it's pretty up-to-date.
Anyway, here's the fig ratio:
I: 1.00
D: 4.77
M: 8.62
Which means for every 1 Indy fig in existence, there are 4.77 DC figs, and 8.62 Marvel figs.
Here's our breakdown by teams, with the ratio relative to each other in parentheses:
I: 3 (1.00)
D: 17 (5.67)
M: 25 (8.33)
What does this mean?
DC's slightly overfished compared to the other 2 universes.
Indy has 48 figs in its universe per team.
DC has 40 figs per team.
Marvel has 49 figs per team.
Which is fine, since we've got all the quality players... ;)
But seriously, for future purposes, as the fig base (and the league expands), we may want to consider trying to maintain a ratio between 40-50 figs per team. Meaning that the next time someone wants to join, steer 'em toward Marvel.
Small print disclaimer: This study doesn't include breakdowns by hero/villain affiliation, nor does it subtract the numerous Wolverine/Spider-Man/Batman version that have been done which further reduce the pool of available figs. Both would be interesting to have, though the usefulness of it is another question entirely.
Wow, that's some seriously great info. Thanks. Yea, aside from the people talking to right now, no more teams.
It's awesome to see that so many ppl want to get into the league. I guess its a good problem to have! =)
Indy has 48 figs in its universe per team.
DC has 40 figs per team.
Marvel has 49 figs per team.
However, according to your stats, roughly 1 in 10 figures is a U, not an REV/LE progression. So DC has 40 figures per team, but assuming 1 in 10 of those is a Unique, that leaves 36 figures for REV/LE progressions. We'll ignore LEs for simplicity and say those 36 are all REVs, leaving 12 distinct characters. So it's only 18 figures for DE team. It'd be only 20 figures for Marvel team.
And from there, you have to adjust depending on multiples... how many Spider-Man REVs have there been? How many Supermen/Batmen? 18-20 figures isn't much to work with when you're trying to do a theme... even harder if others are going for themes... and downright impossible if others are going for nearly the same theme you are.
In other words: It's kinda crowded in here. I'm glad I'm not getting that X-Team I was considering.
Yeah I was thinking that myself. have 1 thread that was just rules and stats and standings. 1 for general talk and fun. A questions thread, and a trade thread.
Yeah that would be great, and I don't see why we couldn't get these threads started. It would make things a lot easier because having one thread that basically encompasses all these things is difficult to search through to find the relevant information pertaining to the league and important rulings or trades.
So I would love to see these separate threads started especially the League Trade thread because I am still searching for a Scarlet Spider:)

You bring up good points, and really, I should have said, 40-50 figs/team would be a bare minimum. If we're successful enough to keep the league in high demand, then there's no need to worry about a maximum number of figs per team. :)
As it is, considering that the number is roughly half that, when you consider the REV progression is the same character, we're probably pushing it as it is with our current 3/17/25 Indy/DC/Marvel team breakdown. That will drop with attrition, but we may be better served at a final league breakdown totalling closer to 30-something than 45.

Since my wife's also a big comic fan, we're most likely going to be scoping the dealer floor and artist's alley, just checking the con out, since it's our first time at this one.
Oh, just to clarify, I won't be posting any of the major announcement on this page. Until Season 1 is over, anything that is being announced will still be announced on the Season 1 page.
But as soon as Season 1 is over, that thread will be locked-up and this one will the only Fantasy League Page.

I'd certainly like to be able to use that neat new dial feature... but I'm still really not sure on how to go about using it. Can anyone give a better rundown?
I would say the easiest way to use it would be to hit the "quote" button on somebody who's already got it up, like Jacin's or mine. The code for creating that dial will appear, and it's really pretty intuitive. Be sure to refer to this page when you have questions about how to make different movement and damage symbols, or whether dial colors or called "lime" or "bile green". ;)
http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/showpost.php?p=2157055&postcount=1
So yeah, hit "quote", and use one of the created dials as a template to get your figs up. And the great thing is, you don't have to create from scratch each time; you can just copy and paste as you need things.

There is no assigned date perse.
The first round will be posted soon as the outcome of the Finals won't effect those draft selections.

That is SO borken! Nerf Turtle! Cheez!
EDIT: Oh wait, that's just weak. No damage reducer on the first click, useless defend when the D's 15, the 4 targets with very little incap and energy explosion are a waste of points, practically requiring that you get Armor Piercing on a 24 point piece, and you can't use EW with HSS on the 3rd click.

one of George Lucas lawyers walks in -- not special edition-- post edited to refect changes made by Mr Lucas
!!! ALL PLAYERS !!!
As you may or may not know. Halfway through our season, we have a mid-season draft where each team can take recruitment pts earned thus far and draft one more character.
I'd also like to have a sort of All-Star Game.
So here's where you come in.
I'd like to have a mid-season game during this draft time. I'd like it also to be a special scenario game. And I'd like a player to come up with this scenario.
So I'd like for you to write a scenario and send it to me.
Here are the rules:
1) Has to be a 1 vs 1 player scenario. (Any more players involved and it will take longer than I want the break to take)
2) There will be no recruitment pts earned for winning or loosing, but STATS will be earned as nomral, and you can upgrade your characters as normal at the end of the match
3) It can only be based of maps found on this site:
http://www.creationmatrix.com/forum/board.php
4) It can be inner-league play, but remember, we don't have an even amount of DC teams to Marvel teams. So if your scenario requires the teams be a DC vs Marvel, then we can't use it.
5) The point total must not exceed 400 pts. But no minimum
6) Players can't use characters not on their team (or characters they hope to draft in the mid-season draft)
7) Game will only last two weeks at the most, but no turn limit.
I know that's restrictive, but whoever comes up with a scenario we use will get a special object to use in the later half of the season (after the mid-draft)
So PM all scenarios to me. At some point, I'll post some of the better entries that didn't get used.

I was about to type that too but wanted to wait untill I could look it up in my hardcover Special Edition Kingdom Come when I got home. I'll use that untill I get the Absolute edition (hopefully for Cristmas this year)
Yeah I just know in my Kingdom Come trade, in the back it just says that its the culmination of all the Flash's, but its probably in something else that its Wally. I never read The Kingdom or anything like that.
From the Elseworlds tale. In the future, Wally West has evolved, not only to incorporate costume elements of every Flash there has been before him, but has now become a living manifestation of the Speed Force. It is this super-natural connection that allows him and interact with observer Norman McKay. The Speed Force has transformed him into a red blur in a winged hat, possessing blinding super speed to the point of flight. Flash fights alongside Superman's league survives the battle to help the heroes rebuild again.
This is what my understanding was as well.
I hereby motion that anyone who has not given previous notice that they'll be away from their PMs (ie: MSU saying that he's going to GenCon, etc.) and not responding with their first round draft requests by 8:00am ET tomorrow be bumped to the end of the first round so that we can continue drafting as per normal.
If they fail to respond at the end of the first round, bump them back to their normal places in the second round (ie: at the end of it, due to the 'snake' draft). If they still fail to respond, consider that a 'third strike' and drop them until next year.
One of the requirements of the league is the ability to post at least once per day. One could argue that the responding to PMs should be held to a similar timeliness standard, since failure to do so slows down the entire league.

This is from the Kingdom Come annotations #1

Both Mark Waid and Alex Ross said that the identities of Flash, Hawkman and the Green Lantern (who we'll see in the next few pages) would not be explicitly stated, and that this ambiguity was intentional, as the main point of their appearances here was their iconic significance. Ross added that his character designs were meant to incorporate elements of the characters from all the comic eras. Thanks to Thomas Howard for passing Ross' comments along.
Thats what is was...although its blatent that GL is Alan cause of the "No wood" sign in his home, and the fact that wood splinters his Shield during the final battle. Hawkman is just too confusing to think of. As for Flash, if it wasn't clearly stated anywhere but Whoclix, then I still don't think its Wally. Knowing Ross and Waid it probably was Barry somehow. Either way I don't really care, Vance can have Flash, I'm just interested now.

Oh I agree. But technically, we shouldn't be drafting until the finals are over.
And we won't finish the first round of drafting until the finals are over. The best you can hope for is to see all of the first round draft picks.
So if this first round takes a while, not a big deal.
I'm mostly putting stuff up to wet your appetites.
But normally, you're correct, people have 48 hours to respond with their draft pick.
If they don't respond in that time frame, they loose their draft pick for that round.
Repeated failure shows to me they don't have the ability to keep up with the League and will be dismissed (nicely as I can),

yeah thats why I never read the Kingdom. Wasn;t the same to me and I heard it wasn't very good. Much like that crappy Age of Apocalypse story that came out recently that was no where near as good as the original ones.

Actually, once we get into the games, we're given a considerable amount of time to take moves. I've seen some games get stalled for a whole week. The only thing is, if they take that long, Turtle usually steps in and plays a few turns for them. Also, there is a limit to how long a game can go, but I think it's something like 3 or 4 weeks.
With drafting, it's a completely different story.
But nonetheless, we're really rushing it here with the draft. We haven't even started the final match of the tournament yet. I mean, if we draft now, we're STILL going to be staring at our rosters for a month.
Plus, and maybe I'm just over-sensitive about it, we really SHOULD focus on the guys in the finals right now. These guys are no slouches when it comes to playing this game.

Tomorrow. If by mid-day tomorrow I have yet to get their draft pick, I'll temporarily skip them.

However, this may be an indication that they are not able to fulfil the expectations of the league, and might be dropped.

Halfway across Nebraska lies the Great Nerd Divide, where only the bravest clixers dare traverse west.
I know that population density tends to be higher in the eastern states, but wow. Being a native Californian, my hopes of finding a regular venue if I ever move back there look pretty slim.
I mean, I'm not trying to be too heartless (as a result of my inability to display the 'virtue' of patience). And, I understand that we can't really be in too much of a hurry since the first season isn't even over yet.
But, at some point, it does become an indicator of what the person's league participation would likely be like.
I'm all for not kicking them entirely out of the league. But, I'd make every attempt to contact them (both PM and e-mail, if possible), and if they don't respond, bump them -- possibly to the end of the first round (ie: after the Super Bowl guys).
And, then, if they still haven't responded by the time the Super Bowl guys have wrapped up their game and made their draft choices, consider dropping them.

We'll I've had to drop people before, and I'm willing to do it again if need be, but sometimes people just have a busy week.
I try to strike a good line between realization of a "real world" and fairness to other players
Yeah, the first time, espicially during a draft that really shouldn;t even have started yet, shouldn;t be enough to indicate they are kicked out. I'm on here pretty much M-F 9-5, but some days I'm just too busy to post, but that shouldn;t mean based on that 1 day that I can't keep up with the league. If that were the case I can think of a couple guys that would have a problem. Doobie is only on late so if he ever needs to do something during the day, thats not going to happen, Tenk takes forever on his moves but not maliciously, etc.

It should also be noted that Tenk, when a game this important is NOT on the line, does NOT take forever on his moves. Also keep in mind that he has recently gotten a new job and has moved, so that's changed as well.
For all the time I'm on here, I'm probably the worst when it comes to posting moves. I simply can't set up my maps here at the office, because too many people keep barging in here whenever they feel like it because their crisis is priority #1. PM me your e-mail address, and I'll send you the file, if you can download attachments.
Basically, I set up columns A - Z, and rows 1-27 to mimic the look of your basic 24x24 heroclix map. The tedious part involves filling in the proper squares for hindering and blocking terrain, and telling Excel to shade borders to indicate walls. Then I write down numbers on the board indicating figs on each team.
EDIT: Oh, and congrats on what looks like an impending win for your JSA. That was a nice game to watch. And make us DC folks proud in the finals!

While I'm enjoying the intitial round of draft results, I have to agree that if it can't continue due to the other season not being over, I wonder why it is taking place. It puts a newbie like me in an odd spot where all I can do is wait.

I use Cyberboard. It's great, and I've only had very few instances where co-ordinates don''t line up with "on-line" maps. Makes it easier to save the board, pieces and all.

The draft itself does take a while.
Right now we are not being held up by the finals, we are still waiting on players to get me draft choices.
Which shows us how long a round of drafting can sometimes take.
That's why I started a little early, to get some of this sorted out.
Now that the last game is started, I don't predict it will take too long. Both players usually can post multiple turns per day.

Yeah rouge2 introduced me to Cyberboard and it's VERY useful...you can save your positioning and just open it up when it's your turn...no need to take 20 minutes to setup or anything like that..it's helped me IMMENSELY in the Brainiac and the Sentinels scenario...all those objects and characters...man would've been a real pain setting that up every time it was my turn...
but yeah the only problem is what rouge2 stated about not lining up with maps on other sites...like the letters would be where the numbers would be for the coordinates...I actually still used it in a RPSC but just transcribed the moves onto Cyberboard so I could save it....

TMNT has been very lenient with me in terms of posting daily..in my profession sometimes it's just not an option, and there has actually been a break where he allowed someone else to man my squad while I wasn't able to. However, all it took was for me to drop a line to him to let him know, and it took all of 5 seconds.
Not answering PM's and just plain out not paying attention to a league that you have signed up for is a bit different.
I say that it is more than fair to start skipping those that have not responded, but I must also warn against allowing them into the league if it goes on much longer. I have run 3 leagues over at CM and noticed a pattern of those that aren't in it to win it early on (ie DRAFT) aren't usually worth the effort of keeping around.

By the end of the season, we had 5 that quit. (But one came back)
So about 1 in 5 or so, maybe 1 in 6.

Fair enough, next four it is!
yeah, the next three is where I have my eye as well. The Batman Enemies actually have some competition during the draft this season, so I gotta be careful.....
Dr. Fate?
*Looks over the Secret Six roster from the books*
Dr. Fate?
That's like putting U Flash or a talking squirrel on the Titans or something.
Well...like 5 Fate's have died...so it kinda fits. Kinda :) The man just needed some PC loven.

Oh, fear not. He's not staying with us. Someone captured a member of our squad and we'll be doing something of a 'prisoner exchange' shortly.
I take it this is gonna be a good guy S6 now?
We don't like to be defined by terms like 'good' and 'evil'.
So what's the status of the Injustice League?
So what's the status of the Injustice League?

MIA so far, but still in the league.

Ah, this looks like its gonna be a great season! I cant wait until we actually get started.
TMNT, are you accepting second round draft picks yet, or should I just hold off?
And where can I find this Cyberboard thing I've seen mentioned? I play in a Custom Clix RPG, and I'll echo the complaint about having to re-set up the board every time its my turn.

I am flagging this pending a response from my PM to TMNT. I am hoping to represent Dredd and company from 2000 AD.

Nice choice but there's already 2 heroic Indy teams so your choices may wind up being limited.
Just warning you.

08/06/2006, 18:53
As I'm reading through this thread things are starting to make more sense. Do I need to select an evil Indy team? Are there slots available in Marvel or DC?
Maybe I'll be a patient little monkey until I hear back from TMNT.
VanceMadrox
08/06/2006, 18:58
Yes slots are available in Marvel or DC.
Take a look at what's been taken already and go from there.
What're some of your favorite teams in general? That'll give a starting point
da-Craig-O
08/06/2006, 19:02
Most of my favorites are taken, which is cool since I am a latecomer. I DO have an idea for an evil Indy team. I'll see what TMNT has to say.
VanceMadrox
08/06/2006, 19:06
Sure thing.
But also note just because a team is taken doesn't mean you can't have it too.
For example we have Justice League International, Justice League Satellite Era, and one other (I forget which)
The X-Men for example could probably support another team still.
da-Craig-O
08/06/2006, 19:08
Thanks for all the help. I'll make a short list of ideas that cover numerous possibilities. I don't remember seeing X-Force or New Mutants...
da-Craig-O
08/06/2006, 19:11
Did I say no New Mutants? Scratch that. :)
VanceMadrox
08/06/2006, 19:12
I think New mutants is there.
X-Men Blue, New Mutants, X-Factor, and Excalibur if my memory serves.
But an X-Men classic, 2nd generation, Gold, modern or several other ideas could still work.
Ooh! Ooh! How about Morlocks? My Marauders really need someone to massacre :)
da-Craig-O
08/06/2006, 19:18
I hate having so many questions...
If someone has Wolverine, does that mean that all versions of that character are locked on their team?
X-Force could work, or a X-Men Gold team. An Extinction Agenda era team would be nice too.
da-Craig-O
08/06/2006, 19:20
Ooh! Ooh! How about Morlocks? My Marauders really need someone to massacre :)
If only there were more available. :(
I would be willing to do a Serpent Society team. That would be some wacky fun.
Or maybe a GL Enemies team in the highly competetive DC League. So many ideas.
All versions of a character who is ruled to represent the "same" character is unavailable when someone takes one. For instance R Patch is still the same character as U Weapon X, so if you have one no-one else can have the other. On the other hand, R Blockbuster is NOT the same character as EV and LE Blockbuster, so they could go to different teams.
VanceMadrox
08/06/2006, 19:23
If someone has wolverine then all versions of Wolverine from the same universe are theirs.
IE if someone has 616 Wolverine you could still draft Ultimate wolverine.
And of those I think a Serpent society team would be great!

More available? Why there's Callisto, and Marrow and the Morlock... and.... err.... does Storm count?

The best bet for figs that would give you the most options would be Indy villains of some sort. You could also go with the Guardians of the Globe.
With so few Indy figs to pick from, you might sell yourself short adding yourself to the Indy mix (then again there are also the fewest of us here).
da-Craig-O
08/06/2006, 20:01
My main choice at this point is an Indy clix villians team with Omni-Man. However, I would be willing to play just about anything (see:anything). This looks like fun. :)

I think it's understandable. Even in play by post, a championship match is still pretty un-nerving.
Just got back from WWC (what a weekend!) so I am just catching up on this thread. Is Round 1 of the drafting done? When do we have to give TMNT our round 2 picks?

Question, why didn't you go for Mary Marvel to be your replacement Cap Marvel Jr?
I know Black Adams a beast and stuff, but I find that he's only really good in competitive play when you have a medic around to capitilize on his low defense.
I just have to say, Iceman is correct.
Everyone in the DC league is screwed this season.
Because my #2 pick is going to strike fear into the hearts of all.

I didn't realize until it was too late that she was available. I completely would have drafted her (especially since she was in a two part arc of the book...and on the cover of one) and thought about asking for an exception, but figured it was too late.
On top of that I have stats to spread around after the end of season game that we got trounced in, and BA is upgradeable after the first pre-season game.
If you would like I will take Mary Marvel instead (if you would allow I should say) and let Black Adam fall to the villians.

Oh, I don't really care either way. At this point, Mary got picked up again by Tanis11 and isn't recruitable. Just wondering.
Use Black Adam well my friend.

Oh yeah, please take it easy on poor KC Green Lantern and his friends. We wouldn't want them to have to exert any effort or anything. ;)

Seriously, can't wait.
I don't think it'll be earth-shattering by any means whatsoever, but it'll be pretty cool when you see it. :)
Speaking of seeing it ... when can we expect to see more picks?
Speaking of seeing it ... when can we expect to see more picks?
They are over halfway through their game now, I don't think it will be much longer.
You know, it's kinda funny...how most of us are more interested in seeing the next draft than seeing who will be ultimate champion of the fantasy league...;) shame on all of you! Shame!! Now pee on them Black Adam! ;)
Bah. You'll all fall before the might of my Batgirl and Green Arrow...
... no, seriously, you will...

Yes, all Ultimate version of characters have separate progeressions. And I believe it was decided the U Spidey from XP was also Ult Spidey.
