View Full Version : Australia (AU) Weekly HeroClix at The Tin Soldier, Sydney

I'm creating this thread to keep people updated about what games are taking place at the Tin Soldier in the city (there's another TS at Penrith, but I don't know if it's also a HeroClix venue).
If you've never been there, the store is located at 46 York Street, Sydney, NSW 2000 (phone 02-92792668). The street entrance is next to a cafe, then you go downstairs to the well-lit and attractive premises beneath street level.
Generally we run a fairly casual game with a modest turnout. We generally put in $5 each to pay for some boosters to open so that everyone can take a few figures home as bonus prizes in addition to whatever LEs the venue has that week (those are a bit random).
If you're free on Thursday nights from about 6pm, drop in. :)

This week we're taking on Galactus...
Build a 300 point force to play the Galactus Scenario. The rules for this scenario can be downloaded from the WizKids website here (http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/marvel/documents/Galactus_Rulesheet.pdf). Galactus' power level will be determined by the number of players facing him. Winner is the player to deal the killing blow! (Failing that, the player with the most points in surviving characters when Galactus eats the world! :))
No battlefield conditions. Retired characters are fine (we've houseruled retirement).

This Thursday the 19th of October: Clash of the titans!
Build an 800 point force of the biggest, heaviest-hitters you own, and see if you can handle the power!
Special rules: Two actions per turn, no battlefield conditions. Unrestricted, but Galactus is specifically disallowed (we want other characters to have a fighting chance!).

This Thursday the 27th of October: Giants!
Build a 400 point force (unrestricted) that features at least one giant character.
To the best of my knowledge, the giants currently available are:
Alloy (DC Giants)
Atlas/Goliath (Fantastic Forces)
Atom Smasher (DC Giants)
Awesome Android/Andy (Fantastic Forces)
Chemo (DC Giants)
Colossal Boy (DC Giants)
Giant Man (Mutant Mayhem)
Giganta (DC Giants)
Rita Farr (DC Giants)
Steel (Legacy)
Stilt-Man (Sinister)
Validus (DC Giants)
Yellowjacket (Fantastic Forces)
I'll be bringing along a few exra figures, just in case we have somebody show up who doesn't own a giant figure they want to use.

You left out Bat Sentry
Than0seid
10/27/2006, 06:12
I don't believe Bat Sentry is a giant?
Not having one myself though, I could be wrong, and fortunately you can't do something useful like search the wizkids site for what are Giants.
But both the units section on here, and Myheroclix.com both state that it isn't a giant. It's just big.

300 pt Basketball!
All teams must include exactly 5 figures -
2 Forwards - who must have either flight speed type, flying transporter speed type, or the leap / climb power somewhere on their dial.
1 Centre - Who must be either a giant figure or have the Plasticity power somewhere on it's dial
2 Guards - who must be able to share their defence values, either through a team ability (ie Defenders, JSA, wildcard to either, T-bolt to either, or Alt FF) or having the Defend power somewhere on their dials.
Additionally one of the five figures must also be a "Captain". These are either figures with the word Captain in their name, or are otherwise captains of some sort (ie Hal Jordan was an airforce captain, Corsair is the captain of a crew of space pirates). Team leader of a supergroup is not good enough.
The captain figure gains the leadership power if it does not already possess it.

Cultural Diversity Comics - 300 pts
The rule for team building this week is simple - no characters who are Americans.
Artificial life forms count as the nationality of their creators. Ultron counts as American cause of Hank Pym, while the superman robot counts as Kryptonian, and is therefore legal.
Reborn souls [ie Blue Devil] count as their original country of birth.
Than0seid
11/26/2006, 05:06
Generics plus their leader.
300 pts of Generic figures, plus a leader that is the same team as the rest of them.

Thursday 21st December - Bizarro/Backwards Dial Tournament!
400 point constructed tournament
Retirement is not in effect
No Battlefield Condition cards
At the begining of each game all figures will start on their last click of life.
The dial of a character who takes damage from any game effect is clicked counter-clockwise until they pass the green line (reaching KO). Once this happens they are KO'd.
The dial of a character who is healed by any game effect is clicked clockwise.
Any questions? Please ask!

Next Week, Thursday the 28th of December - Comic-Book Accurate Teams!
500 point constructed tournament
A default of three actions per turn (not five)
Retirement is not in effect
No battlefield condition cards
All of the characters in your force must have appeared as allies in the same comic. If you choose something obvious (early 90s X-Men, Batman and his allies) you probably don't need to bring in the issue to prove it, but if it's something unusual or a crossover then try to bring the comic or print a Wikipedia article or something! ;)
Any questions? Please ask!
Spider-Man has fought alongside most of the Marvel universe and some of the major DC heroes, so he could join just about any force :p
Apparently there was also an crossover issue where Wolverine married Witchblade. Good luck getting that to work in 500 points though!

Next week, Thursday the 4th of January - Mufti Day!
300 point constructed tournament
Retirement is not in effect
No battlefield condition cards
No characters used may be wearing tights, spandex, or obvious "superhero" costumes (which I assume includes power armour). Naked is fine, street clothes is ideal.
Characters who are wearing "street clothes" (ie, anything that you or I could wear in real life and not attract stares while walking through the city) is considered to have Shape Change on their first click. Hey, don't attack him, it's just some guy!
We had a bit of a discussion about what characters would be considered to be wearing street clothes. Obviously someone like the Punisher or Mr. Bones is fine - even though the Punisher has an emblem on his chest, it's all normal clothing. And while Mr Bones looks like a skeleton, his clothing itself is still normal.
Ghost Rider was also considered okay - despite the burning head, his outfit is standard biker gear (and he does "shapechange" from Daniel Ketch to demonic form).
On the other hand Mary Marvel is clearly wearing a "superhero costume", even though it's not spandex.

Next week, Thursday the 11th of January - Aces Wild!
400 point constructed tournament
Retirement is not in effect
No battlefield condition cards
All characters used must be wildcards or have no affiliation. Wildcard teams include B.P.R.D., Calculator, Freedom Phalanx, Legion of Super-Heroes, Minions of Doom, and Spider-man Ally. At the beginning of the game (after map choice, but before figures are placed), each player rolls one die to determine what team ability his wildcard characters possess for that game.
Arachnos/Crossgen/Mystics
Batman Ally/Kabuki
Batman Enemy
Crusade (or re-roll)
Danger Girls/Skrulls (or re-roll)
Defenders/JSA
Fantastic Four (or re-roll)
Guardians of the Globe (or re-roll)
Hydra/P.D. (or re-roll)
Kingdom Come
Injustice League (or re-roll)
Masters of Evil
Outsiders
Serpent Society
S.H.I.E.L.D. (or re-roll)
Suicide Squad
Superman Ally/Ultimates
Superman Enemy
Teen Titans/X-Men
Ultimate X-Men
Some of the less powerful team abilities give you an option to re-roll if the TA rolled does not suit your force. You cannot choose the first result once you have re-rolled. This is intended to save people from rolling a weak TA trhat is totally useless for their characters (e.g., Hydra on an all-close combat force).
Not every team ability is included in the random roll - Power Cosmic/Quintessence and CSA are too powerful, and Avengers/Brotherhood/JLA/Top Cow are too boring!

Next week, Thursday the 18th of January - Cultural Diversity Comics
400 point constructed tournament (I think - I'll double-check)
Retirement is not in effect
No battlefield condition cards
All characters used must be natives or citizens of a different nation. No two may be from the same place!
This seems to include characters from other planets and possibly dimensions, as long as they're from some kind of sovereign entity.
Off the top of my head, I can think of characters from Antarctica, Australia, Atlantis, Attilan, Brazil, Canada, China, Egypt, England, Germany, Gorilla City, Greece, Ireland, Japan, Kahndaq, Kenya, Latveria, Markovia, Monster Island, Nova Roma, Russia, Santa Prisca, Scotland, Symkaria, Themyscira, Transia (location of Mount Wundagore), Vietnam, Wakanda, Zandia (though really, nobody's going to play Brother Blood), and various other planets and dimensions.
So there shold be quite a few options!

A default of four actions per turn (as normal)
Retirement is not in effect
No battlefield condition cards
Any questions? Please ask!
In theory you could play an all-bystanders force (green rings!), but I doubt we'll see that. ;)
Pretty straightforward! Let's see if your force of rookies can defeat a posse of purple rings!

Next Week, Thursday the 8th of February - Civil War
300 point constructed tournament
Build two 300-point forces. One of your forces is the "Pro-Registration" side and must include an Iron Man figure; the other is the "Anti-Registration" side and must include a Captain America figure.
At the beginning of each match, the player who rolled to go first chooses whether to play his Pro-Reg or Anti-Reg force. The player who goes second must play the opposing force.
Captain America and Iron Man are considered archenemies during this tournament.
Retirement is not in effect
No battlefield condition cards
Any questions? Please ask!
Cross-universe characters are okay (you're not restricted to the Marvel Universe). Obviously the Dark Judges would be Pro-Registration, whereas Nemesis the Warlock would be Anti. :)
Want to read some of the background to Civil War? Read the Wikipedia page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civil_War_%28Marvel_Comics%29).
EDIT: Well, I won this week! My anti-registration force included V Ultimate Cap, Falcon, Spider-Man, Black Cat, and Marvel Boy. My pro-registration force was a team of Skrulls led by a Tony Stark L.M.D. bystander. ;)
Best moment was when zombie Colonel America missed my Tony Stark bystander on a push, and then Tony struck back for 1 damage with knockback.
Zombie Colonel America is pretty nasty for 55 points, though!

Next Week, Thursday the 15th of February - Archenemy Feuds!
400 point constructed tournament
Every force must include at least one character with a coloured archenemy ring. This character is included the AE of the archenemy on your opponent's force.
If you play multiple AE ring characters, your highest-point AE figure is considered the archenemy of your opponent's highest-point AE figure. Your second-highest-point AE figure is considered the archenemy of your opponent's second-highest-point AE figure... and so on. No character can have more than one archenemy (if you have more AE-ring figures than your opponent, you ignore the lowest point AE rings)
Retirement is not in effect
No battlefield condition cards
Any questions? Please ask!
EDIT: The winning force included E Batman (Icons), E Magneto (Infinity Challenge), and V Spider-Man (Critical Mass). Batman and Spider-Man scored an archenemy kill each. :)

Next Week, Thursday the 22nd of February - Passing the Torch!
300 point constructed tournament
Every force must include at least two characters who are considered mentor and student, or parent and child.
For example, Batman and Robin is perfectly good, as is Wolverine and Jubilee (or Shadowcat, or Storm...). Superman and Batman doesn't count, because they are partners rather than sidekick-and-mentor. Father-son clix are fine (such as Cyclops and Cable).
Retirement is not in effect
No battlefield condition cards
Any questions? Please ask!
EDIT: The winning force was an all-DC villains team-up featuring Deathstroke and Ravager. The KC Flash/Kid Flash/Jesse Quick force was also a bit scary!

Next Week, Thursday the 8th of March - Accurate Team Line-Ups!
500 point constructed tournament.
Your force should be constructed to match a recognised team line up from a comic series. X-Men Blue, X-Men Gold, the Grant Morrison JLA, the original Outsiders, and so on. One-off team ups and "guests stars" don't count.
Note that it isn't essential for all the characters you use to actually share the same TA, especially if some characters don't have a TA (for example, the Hellfire Club). Try to use the most representative version of a character you have (rookie Batman from Legacy for an Outsiders team) but if you want to use Flash (no TA) on a JLA team then that's perfectly acceptable.
Retirement is not in effect.
No battlefield condition cards.
Any questions? Please ask!
EDIT: And the winner was Matt with the Hellfire Club! He successfully dealt with the Fantastic Four with their old pal the Sentry, and decimated Grant Morrison's JLA.

Next Week, Thursday the 15th of March - Infinity Crisis!
Superboy is punching the walls of reality! Scarlet Witch has said "No more Outwit against adjacent team-mates!" Hellboy is fighting evil frogs from beyond time and space! Or something like that!
400 point constructed tournament.
Retirement is not in effect.
Bring six different battlefield condition cards. At the beginning of each turn, one BFC will be randomly selected; it is considered in play until the beginning of the next turn (i.e., the first BFC is in effect for both player's first turns, the second is in effect for both players' turn 2, and so on).
Any BFC that requires you to make decisions "at the beginning of the game" (such as Alpha Strike) happen at the beginning of the first player's turn (when they come into play), and last until the end of the second player's turn.
Each BFC is removed from the game once it has been played. In a full twelve-turn game, all twelve BFCs will be played.
Any questions? Please ask!
EDIT 1: I've clarified a couple of points with the judge; the above information should be correct and complete.
EDIT 2:: And the winner was Laura, with Matt coming in second! I don't know what she played, as I didn't face her.

EDIT 1: Tin Soldier has Origin in stock! So this Thursday will be a sealed game; $35 gets you three boosters. Be at the store at 6 sharp so that you have enough time to build the best possible force!
EDIT 2: The winner of the sealed was Andrew (M.O.D.O.C.), fielding a force consisting of experienced Mirror Master, rookie Monel, rookie Wildcat, and veteran Wildcat. Congratulations!
Next Week, Thursday the 22nd of March...
If the Tin Soldier has Origin in stock by next week then we'll be having a sealed tournament of some type (three boosters). Otherwise, we'll be playing the following as a back-up: 500 point constructed tournament.
Retirement is not in effect.
No battlefield conditions.
All of your characters must share one power on their first click. All Phasing/Teleport, all Barrier, whatever. :classic:
Any questions? Please ask!

Next Week, Thursday the 29th of March: Shifting Battlefields!
300 point constructed tournament.
Retirement is not in effect.
Assign two battlefield conditions to your force. At the beginning of each game, your opponent chooses which of your battlefield conditions will be in play for that game. It goes into play as though the owner had played it. The unselected battlefield condition has no effect.
Battlefield conditions are chosen secretly by both players, and revealed simultaneously. Neither player has the advantage of seeing which BFC his or her opponent chose.
Any questions? Please ask!
Choosing BFCs that nerf particular teams probably won't work as well as usual, because if your opponent's ninja squad is hindered by Bright Lights he can just pick the other one. I think it would be more effective to choose two BFCs that improve your own force, or have a crazy effect on both sides of the combat.
Battlefield conditions are considered unique by name rather than by set, so you can't bring two Ordinary Day or Poor Teamwork cards from different sets.
EDIT: The winner was Matt (Sgt. Grimes) with a force featuring veteran HIVE Trooper, rookie Huntress, experienced Mantis (Thunderbolts), rookie Marvel Boy, veteran Saturn Girl (with Compel - ouch!), Zombie Spider-Man, and Zombie Wolverine!
Compel is a truly nasty feat. Well worth the 15 points it costs.

Next Week, Thursday the 5th of April: Share the Power!
400 point constructed tournament.
Retirement is not in effect.
No battlefield condition cards.
All of your characters must share the same power on their first click. All Phasing/Teleport, all Stealth, all Invulnerability, whatever you like - as long as each character has it on their first click.
Any questions? Please ask!
EDIT: I won this week using an all-Defend force (Dr. Mid-Nite, Invisible Girl, Man of Steel, Shadowcat, and Shadow LAss). MODOC also performed very well with an all-Poison force (I didn't see all of the figures, but I believe it included Cheshire, Firestorm, Ghost Widow, and Joker), and Kane had an all-Phasing/Teleport force of two veteran Atoms, Mister Miracle, and Superman Blue that trounced the first round but met with some difficulty in the second.

Next Week, Thursday the 12th of April: Share the Power, Reversed!
400 point constructed tournament.
Retirement is not in effect.
No battlefield condition cards.
All of your characters must share the same power on their last click. This is very similar to last week's tournament, except that this time each character must have a common power at the end of their dial. Characters with no powers on their final click are obviously unusable.
Any questions? Please ask!
Off the top of my head, good options would include Leap/Climb, Outwit (lots of dials have a final click of that), Pulse Wave (ditto), Regeneration, Stealth, and Toughness.
Edit: Three Regeneration teams and one Leap/Climb... M.O.D.O.C. came in first with two close games, and Sgt. Grimes second.

300 point constructed tournament.

All of your characters must be female. It should be pretty obvious which characters are allowed!
Any questions?
Edit: The winner was M.O.D.O.C. yet again, with a force that featured Spiral, Sue Storm, and some other characters that I didn't actually see because I didn't face him. Second was Dion with Blackfire, Cheetah, Jean Grey, Karma (with Compel), Morlock Leader, a Paramedic, and Storm. I think I came in about third (I would have been just behind Dion on points) but we stopped counting at that point.

Next Week, Thursday the 26th of April: From Beyond the Stars!
400 point constructed tournament.

No battlefield condition cards.
All of your characters must have an otherworldly origin - born on an alien planet, descended to Earth from Asgard, constructed entirely from alien technology, one of the New Gods of Apokalips, etc. Alien or otherdimensional characters (as long as the alternate dimension is not inherently tied to the Earth).
Any questions?
Edit: And the winner was Than0seid, who fielded a force of V nebula (with Trick Shot), Ch'p, E Mano, E Blackfire, two E Badoon Guards, two R Skrull Infiltrators, and an L-Ron bystander.

300 point constructed tournament.
Retirement is not in effect.
No battlefield condition cards.
At least one of your characters must have an animal in their name, or be obviously animalistic in theme.
"Animal" characters get a +2 bonus to their speed values.
Any questions?
There are lots of animal characters in clix, so I encourage people to play an all-animal force if they can. Some examples to get you started:
DC: Ambush Bug, Animal Man, Batgirl, Batman, Beast Boy, Black Canary, Blue Beetle, Catgirl, Catman, Catwoman, Cheetah, Dove, Gorilla Grodd, Hawk, Hawkgirl, Hawkman, Hyena, Killer Croc, Man-Bat, Owlman, Penguin, Queen Bee, Raven, Red Robin, Robin, Wildcat.
Indy: Black Scorpion, Captain Mako, Lobster Johnson.
Marvel: Anaconda, Ant-Man, Asp, Beast, Beetle, Black Cat, Black Panther, Falcon, Hellcat, Lizard, Mantis, Mockingbird, Mole Man, Nighthawk, Princess Python, Shadowcat, Sidewinder, Snowbird, Spider-Man, Spider-Woman, Starhawk, Super-Apes, Tigra, Toad, Viper, Wasp, Wolverine, Yellowjacket.

400 point constructed tournament.

All of your characters must have a name starting with the same letter. This means the name printed on the dial (in case of any confusion).
Any questions?
For example, your force might consist of unique The Man of Steel, unique Terrax, and a Ted Knight bystander token. Feats don't have to start with the common letter, so Protected would be okay (but Taunt would be better. ;)).

Next Week, Thursday the 17th of May: Sending Him Home!
300 point constructed tournament.
Retirement is not in effect.
No battlefield condition cards.
All of your characters except one must share the same team symbol.
That character is the "guest" from a parallel universe. The guest must be from a different universe to the rest of your force (Marvel, DC, or IndyClix); and cannot have Leap/Climb, Phasing/Teleport, or Hypersonic Speed.
At the beginning of the game, place a Special token on a square of non-blocking terrain within four squares of your starting area. This is your opponent's portal. If a guest character spends one entire turn on his portal, it is removed from the map. It scores victory points for surviving, plus an additional 100 victory points.
Any questions?
Some clarifications from the judge:
It is legal for other characters to occupy the same square as a portal. That means that you can put one of your own characters on your opponent's portal, and as long as your opponent doesn't KO the character his "guest" can't leave.
You may place your opponent's portal inside your own starting area if you wish.
The "guest" character cannot use a wildcard TA or Thunderbolts to copy Serpent Society, as this team ability duplicates Phasing/Teleport. It is not supposed to be that easy to move onto the portal.
Edit: Than0seid came in first with a resounding 1000+ point total for the night; I didn't see his force so I'm afraid that I can't tell you how he did it! I scored second (one wafer-thin victory over Sgt. Grimes followed by a very solid win) using a force consisting of LE Clark Kent, E Superman-Robot, and E Lobster Johnson as my "visitor".
you guys are correct, batman sentry isn't a giant and however he is a rather large figure doesn't eman that he plays the "giant" role. people like giant man are giants because they can grow to mass sizes in the comics that they take place in. in the gothom city comics the bat sentry is a generic robot the size of block buster, block buster can also be found as a regular figure in legacy too i believe

400 point constructed tournament.

At least half of the characters on your force must be bystanders.*
At the end of each player's turn, any of their characters who are more than 4 squares away from a friendly bystander takes one click of unavoidable damage.
Any questions?
* This means that if you are playing five regular figures, you must have five or more bystander tokens in your force as well.
Edit: I came in first this week, fairly closely followed by Than0seid. My force was a veteran Green Lantern (from Unleashed) carrying three Gotham Undercover and three Badoon, with rookie Dr. Mid-Nite and nine assorted bystanders.
I have played so many bystander-heavy games now, I guess I can't ever complain about pulling one instead of a BFC again!

Build two 300-point forces. One must feature only male characters, one female.
At the end of the game, the player who rolled highest (and thus chose the map and takes the first turn) also chooses which of his/her two teams to play, male or female. The second player must field the opposing force.
Any questions?
Edit: And first place went to Than0seid, whose winning force included Hulk 2099 (), Lockjaw, Falcon, Captain Mako, and probably some other characters I don't remember. I came in second with an all-Batman force and a back-up of catgirls (Tigra, both Catwomen, Shadowcat, and Black Cat). Third was MODOC whose female force consisted of Barbara-Ann Minerva, Deathbird, Elektra, Ghost Widow, and Jean Grey.

300 point constructed tournament.

One character on your force should be a named character, and is considered the "leader".
The rest of your force should be constructed from generic characters (skrulls, cops, soldiers, ninjas, etc).
The characters on your force do not have to share a team ability, but they must be an appropriate team-up.*
Any questions?
* This is so that you can build a thematic force even if there is a different TA or no TA on some characters. Appropriate examples include Iron Man with S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, Batman with Gothan PD, Superman with Metropolis PD, Kang the Conqueror with Badoon, Kobra with Kobra Fanatics, Moleman with Moloids, Gladiator with Shi'ar Warriors, and so on.
KC Flash with DEO Agents, on the other hand, isn't a thematic force and wouldn't qualify.
Edit: Than0seid was the winner with a force that consisted of V Mirror Master and his three reflections (E Mirror Masters).
I would also like to say, that after a tournament in which every single character I fought had Shape Change (and some were Skrulls, too!) I hope that I don't see that power again for awhile!
i don't have any generics....

Next Week, Thursday the 21st of June: Clone Wars!
400 point constructed tournament.
Retirement is not in effect.
No battlefield condition cards.
Your force must include two versions of a single character (eg, two rookie Spider-Man figures, or two different Spider-Man figures). The point value of these figures must be between 50 and 60 points (before feats). These are your clones.
At the beginning of the game after the map is chosen, you choose one of your opponent's clones and add it to your force. Your opponent does the same. Feats that are assigned to the specific character stay with the character. Feats that are assigned to the force as a whole do not move.
Clones are considered archenemies of one another.
Any questions?
List of characters between 50 and 60 points (http://www.hcrealms.com/units-results.php?sortby=id&sort=ASC&nmeOpt=contains&nmeVal=&uniOpt=is&uniVal=any&setOpt=is&setVal=any&pntOpt=range&pntValL=50&pntValU=60&rnkOpt=is&rnkVal=any&rarOpt=is&rarVal=any&staOpt=is&staVal=any&scuOpt=is&scuVal=any&paiOpt=is&paiVal=any&temOpt=is&temVal=any&spdOpt=%3D&spdVal=&spdAbl=any&attOpt=%3D&attVal=&attAbl=any&defOpt=%3D&defVal=&defAbl=any&dmgOpt=%3D&dmgVal=&dmgAbl=any&sptOpt=is&sptVal=any&sptTrans=any&dmtOpt=is&dmtVal=any&rngOpt=is&rngValL=&rngValU=&tarOpt=is&tarVal=&colOpt=is&colValL=&colValU=&typOpt=is&typVal=any&typAE=any).
Here's an example of what could happen.
You've decided to play a wildcard team, so you've got two veteran Spider-Man figures (from Ultimates, 58 points) with the Pounce feats. You're also playing a Mystic, some Thunderbolts, Batman Ally, the usual stuff. You're hoping that whoever you play against won't have as many good team abilities to copy as you put on your force.
Your opponent has a Fantastic Four force with LE Invisible Woman (convention exclusive, 50 points) with the Armour Piercing feat and experienced Invisible Girl (Clobberin' Time, 57 points) with no additional feats. His force also has the Fantastic Four ATA, but this isn't assigned to any specific character.
Your opponent chooses a Spider-Man (they're both identical). You can choose either Invisible Woman (who has 18 defence and Defend) or Invisible Girl (to deny your opponent her 19 defence). However, you won't get the Fantastic Four ATA with either character, because the feat is not assigned specifically to a character. You'll have to use the original team ability.
Edit: The store closed early tonight so we had a very short, one-round tournament. Essentially there were four people with one win who were awarded a prize; if I recall correctly Jarret came in first and Rachel was second. Archenemy kill points apparently factored in quite significantly to most games (foolishly of me, I didn't manage to get archenemy points at all despite KOing both of my opponent's clones!).

Next Week, Thursday the 28th of June: REVUs!
300 point constructed tournament.
Retirement is not in effect.
No battlefield condition cards.
Only figures that can be bought at normal retail can be played (booster pulls, starter sets, and action packs). No LEs, mailaways, or collector's set figures allowed (including chase figures like Marvel Zombies or Wizard Shazam).
Any questions?
The rationale behind this tournament is that we have an influx of brand new HeroClix players in the last three weeks, and they don't have all of the "special edition" figures that most long-term players own. This tournament is intended to level the playing field a bit.

Next Week, Thursday the 5th of July: Basketbrawl!
400 point constructed tournament.
Retirement is not in effect.
No battlefield condition cards.
Each force must include exactly five characters. These characters must include:
Two Forwards: These characters fly or have Leap/Climb on their dials
One Centre: This character is a giant, colossal figure, or has Plasticity on its dial
Two Guards: These characters have the ability to share defence values.
Additionally, one of your five characters must be a Captain - either with "Captain" in his name, or holding the rank of captain.
Any questions?
Characters can have the ability to share their defence values through the Defend power, the Defenders/JSA team abilities, an Avenger Thunderbolting to those TAs, Fantastic Four with the alternate team ability feat, wildcards copying any of the previously mentioned team abilities, or the Sidekick feat.
Some possible captains include Captain America, Captain Atom, Captain Boomerang, Captain Britain (three versions!), Captain Cold, Captain Marvel (many versions), Captain Mar-Vell, Kree Captain, and Sentinel Captain. The judge will allow Shazam or the LE versions of any figure who normally has "Captain" in his name (John Walker, Len Snart, Monica Rambeau, etc).
Characters who hold the rank of captain include Corsair (a starship captain) and Hal Jordan (a USAF captain). Characters who have exceeded the rank of captain (such as Colonel America or General Nick Fury) do not count. The judge's discretion will apply for this, and he may ask to see some form of evidence. His decision is final.
Edit: First place went to Rachel, then I believe that Matt was second, Andrew came in third and I may have been fourth.

Next Week, Thursday the 2nd of August: Keywords!
400 point constructed tournament.
Retirement is not in effect.
No battlefield condition cards.
All of the characters on your force must share one keyword.
Any questions?
A couple of clarifications!
Keywords
All characters that have official keywords assigned to them so far include DC Origin, Marvel Avengers, and DC Legion of Super Heroes. Here is a PDF listing the keywords in Origin (http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/documents/OriginKeyword.pdf) from the WizKids website, and the other two sets list each character's keywords on the character card.
In order to make it easier to choose which keyword to build your force around, take a look at the Theme Team Keyword Glossary thead. There's over 100 of them... some only have one character, but there's a few with many, many more.
I'm going to recommend to Mr_Nobody that Legion and Legion of Superheroes be considered the same keyword, as well as Armor and Armored. I strongly believe that these were intended to be the same.
Thematic Teams
In order for your force to be considered a "thematic team" in this tournament, you'll need to have four or more characters with that keyword (because it is a 400-point tournament). If you have three or less, then you can still play the force in the event but you won't get the special "thematic team" bonuses for it. For more about thematic teams, check the Legion of Super Heroes rulebook or read the article Unlocking the Door to Themed Teams (http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/dc/gameresources.asp?cid=41327) on the WizKids website.

Next Week, Thursday the 9th of August: The Coming of Galactus!
300 point sealed tournament (two Avengers boosters).
Any Herald of Galactus (that you have received due to competing in weeks 1-4) may be used to supplement the characters you draw from your two boosters.
Two rounds. This is unavoidable due to the store's closing hours.
All matches will be fought on the special "Coming of Galactus" maps.
Instead of receiving an optional Bye (generally a disadvantage for our tournaments), the winners of week 1-4 receive the following benefit:
All week 1-4 winners can treat one Loss in week 5 as a Win, for scoring purposes only. The actual points they receive from that match do not change (in theory, they could even have a win with 0 points), and their opponent still scores a Win.
Any questions?
The winners from week 1-4 (Jarett, Pat, Matt, and whoever won last week) can effectively "ignore" one of their Losses, and thus have a much better chance at scoring two Wins. They are still required to compete well in one of their rounds in order to get enough points to be the top player with two Wins.
But if you had a narrow Loss in the first round (e.g., 270 points), you could instead treat that as a Win worth 270 points; and if you do very well in the other round, have a chance at getting 1st place. This is better than receiving a Bye, because you have the potential to score a lot more points (a Bye just gives you your force's build total).
Edit: The winner was Pat, fielding an all-Avengers force of Wonder Man, Wonder Man, Scarlet Witch, and Stingray!

Retirement is not in effect.
No battlefield condition cards.
All Characters must be wearing street acceptable clothes- no tights, no masks, no capes, no power armour. If a normal person couldn't walk down the street in it without getting odd looks, its out
We had a bit of a discussion about what characters would be considered to be wearing street clothes. Obviously someone like the Punisher or Mr. Bones is fine - even though the Punisher has an emblem on his chest, it's all normal clothing. And while Mr Bones looks like a skeleton, his clothing itself is still normal.
Ghost Rider was also considered okay - despite the burning head, his outfit is standard biker gear.
On the other hand Mary Marvel is clearly wearing a "superhero costume", even though it's not spandex.
Judges ruling is final.

Next week, Thursday the27th of September- RIOT!!
300 point constructed tournament
Retirement is not in effect.
No battlefield condition cards.
At the beginning of the game 8 Rioter tokens are placed in the centre eight squares of the board (that’s squares 12G, 12H, 12I, 12J, 13G, 13H 13I and 13J on most maps) or as near as possible if blocking terrain prevents them being placed there.
After each player’s turn is the rioter phase. The player whose turn just ended may give the rioters two actions. These actions may be movement actions or close or ranged combat actions. The rioters do not receive tokens for their actions but no rioter may be given two actions in one “rioter phase”.
The rioters are considered to be a third force on the battlefield and are opposing to both players figures, so they cause and make break away rolls. During their turn a player can target a rioter with any power or attack normally useable on opposing figures.
Points are scored as NORMAL. Rioters KO’ed are not worth any points, and any figure killed by rioters doesn’t net anyone any points either.
Any Questions?
The rioters stats are as follows (identical to the thug bystander)
Speed (boot) – 8
Attack – 8
Defense – 16
Damage – 1
Range – 4

No battlefield condition cards.
There is a black hole at the centre of the battlefield! (Well, more of a gravity well, really)
At the end of each player's turn, all characters on the map take one point of knockback towards the centre four squares of the map. Characters always move diagonally unless they are on the same column/row as the black hole; then they move vertically/horizontally.
Any Questions?
I recommend using Special markers to mark the four centre squares of the map.
Characters follow all normal rules for knockback (taking damage of they fall off buildings, etc). Any characters who are immune to knockback are also immune to this effect.
James H. may need to make a ruling on what order you apply knockback to characters (in cases where two characters might be knocked back into the same square, for example).

Ahh, from sydney to Minto is quite the trek.
The good news is that there are two train lines that go to Minto from the city.
The bad news is that the quicker of the two lines takes just over an hour, and the other one takes about an hour and a quarter, so if you catch the train from the city at 8.48, you don't get to Minto until 9.55.
If you miss that train, the next is at 8.54, and you're looking at getting to Minto at 10.09.

The UNLIMITED CLASS WRESTLING event dial is considered to be in play.

if you have a copy of the Unlimited Class Wrestling event dial, then it's probably a good idea to familiarise yourself with it and bring it along. Here's the full text and dial of the event for your convenience:
#E003 Unlimited Class Wrestling
Before objects are placed on the map, place four SPECIAL markers on the map so that they mark the outside corners of a 6-square by 6-square area containing as much clear terrain as possible as close to the center of the map as possible; this area is the Ring. Objects can’t be placed in the Ring.
Each player chooses one friendly character and places it in an unoccupied corner inside the Ring; this character is his or her wrestler. A wrestler can’t leave the Ring, and treats the edges of the Ring as if they are walls that can’t be destroyed. When a player’s wrestler is knocked out or eliminated, that player must choose a friendly character outside the Ring and place it in an unoccupied corner inside the Ring as his or her new wrestler. If a character is carrying an object when it becomes a wrestler, it drops the object in the nearest unoccupied square before being placed in the Ring.
No ranged attacks can be made by any character.
Hourglass: At the end of each turn, turn the dial once or a number of times equal to the number of wrestlers knocked out or eliminated during the turn, whichever is more.
AX..BX..CX.XDXXXEXXXF.X.G.X.H.X.I.X.JXXXKXXXLX.X
Fair Fight If any character that isn’t a wrestler is given an action that would affect a wrestler, affect any square inside the Ring, or move the character into or through any square of the Ring, give the character an extra action token after the action resolves.
Power Broker A wrestler can use Exploit Weakness and Flurry if it does not already possess either or both of those powers. After the resolution of an action in which an wrestler uses a power from this effect, deal the wrestler 1 unavoidable damage.
Disqualified! At the beginning of each player’s turn, he or she rolls a d6 for each character in the Ring who is not a wrestler and has two or more action tokens. On a result of 1 or 2, the character is immediately knocked out.
EDIT: The Winner was M.O.D.O.C., with a team that featured Devil Dinosaur and Moon Boy!

One of the characters on your force must have "evolved" from his original state to whatever powers he now possesses. Examples include Beast (in blue-furred form), Vampire Batman, Archangel, any villain given powers by Neron, Wolverine (Weapon X), and so on. Basically, if the character has a secondary mutation or was granted new powers by any force, it has "evolved".
The EVOLUTIONARY WAR event dial is considered to be in play.
Any Questions?
if you have a copy of the Evolutionary War event dial, then it's probably a good idea to familiarise yourself with it and bring it along. Here's the full text and dial of the event for your convenience:
#E002 EVOLUTIONARY WAR
Hourglass: At the end of each round.
AX..BX..CX..DXX.EXX.F.X.G.X.H..XI..XJ..XK..XL..X
Purifiers: At the beginning of each round, each player can declare a special or standard power. All declared powers are ignored until the end of the round.
Restoration A the beginning of each round, remove all debris tokens from the map. All destroyed walls are no longer destroyed. All clear, grounded, outdoor terrain is hindering terrain. Each player can choose a friendly character that occupies an opponent's starting area and heal it of 2 damage.
Genesis Chamber Once at the beginning of each player's turn, each player can choose a target friendly character and declare a combat value (other than range); if the target possesses a standard power of the chosen value, ignore that power until the end of the turn. Then each player who chose a target rolls a d6.
On a result of 1-3, the target can use the standard power on that combat value on the PAC that occurs immediately before the ignored power, until the end of the turn.
On a result of 4-6, the target can use the standard power of that combat value that occurs immediately after the ignored power, until the end of the turn. (The first standard power of a particular combat value on the PAC is considered to be immediately after the last standard power of that combat value.) At the end of the turn, deal the target 1 unavoidable damage.
EDIT: The winner of week 4 was Matt, featuring a Spy thematic team of 2x Iron Widow and 2x Winter Soldier! I came in second with a team of Ghost Rider, Ghost Widow, Hawkeye, Mister Mind, Phantom Girl, and Scarlet Witch.

Next week, Thursday the 3rd of January - Four Colour Comics! (Planet Hulk week 6)
400 point constructed tournament.
Retirement is not in effect.
No battlefield conditions.
You must choose one colour as the theme of your force: Black, Blue, Red, or Yellow. Every character on your force must either have the chosen colour in his name, or have at least 75% of their costume/body bearing that colour.
There is some leeway for names that contain synonyms of your chosen colour. Any character with Crimson, Ruby, or Scarlet in his name qualifies for a Red team. Characters with Gold in their name qualify for a Yellow team. Sapphire would qualify for a Blue team.

We're taking a break from Planet Hulk for a number of reasons - waiting for the Tin Soldier to get some Mutations and Monsters product in stock, allowing the U.S. to catch up with us (we got ahead over Christmas), and hopefully waiting for the prize support to arrive.
In the meantime...
Next week, Thursday the 24th of January - Shifting Battlefields!
300 point constructed tournament.
Retirement is not in effect.
Assign two battlefield conditions to your force. At the beginning of each game, your opponent chooses which of your battlefield conditions will be played that round.
Ordinary Day may not be used.
Any Questions?
Thematic teams can choose to ignore one battlefield condition as described in the official tournament rules - but as your opponent gets to choose which of your BFCs will be played, the impact of really nasty BFCs is likely to be reduced. There's not much point using Malice (nobody will ever choose it), so bring something fun instead!
EDIT: The winner was Dion with an all-Warrior team (mostly Blackfires), followed by M.O.D.O.C.'s Robot team of Ahab, Danger, Red Tornado, and Spiral. My Mystical team (Scarlet Witch, Shaman, Shazam, and Wiccan) was a respectable third.
The battlefield conditions seemed to have very little impact on the games I saw - not sure whether that's because Astral Plane kept coming up against Atlantis Rising, or whether thematic teams neutered them too much.

Next week, Thursday the 21st of February - Tax Brackets!
1050 point constructed tournament (but see below); three actions per turn.
Retirement is not in effect.
No feats or battlefield conditions.
Your force must consist of exactly six characters, one each from the following brackets:
1-50 points
51-100 points
101-150 points
151-200 points
201-250 points
251-300 points
No colossal characters (Sentinel, Sinestro).
Any Questions?
Note: The minimum force build possible with these six brackets is 756 points. The maximum force build possible with these six brackets is 1050 points - a 294 point difference. I don't recommend that you play a force of less than 900 points, but whatever works for you!

Hi BB,
I won Tax Brackets with my theme team of "Figures I've wanted to play, but hadn't yet put in a team, plus Storm"
284 Ganthet
250 Apocalypse
199 V Kang the Conqueror
150 Tony Stark LE (Armor Wars)
100 Storm (M&M)
50 Ambush Bug
I threw the team together without thinking it through much, and found out on the night that it was surprisingly effective. I should have realised that with the double perplex, double outwit, huge range and high damages, but I wasn't really thinking when I picked the figures.
Also, the fact that I missed only one attack in the first game, and only two in the second (and both of them in the second game I needed a 10 to hit anyway), and that Modoc / Andrew couldn't roll a hit against me in the second helped me a lot. 8)
I got a Maestro out of it though, so I was happy.

I've still been thinking about the way that we use battlefield conditions at Tin Soldier (or rather, the way that we don't) and whether there's a good way to bring them back in.
An idea: We only play two rounds normally. Why don't we give every player a bye, to make it "officially" three rounds?
Then each round you have a choice of using one of your two BFCs, or the "blank".
What do you think?

I've been wondering if we should start bring in BFC's as well, as there doesn't seem to be an influx of new players to be confused by them recently, and this sounds like a reasonable way to do it.
Count this as a yes vote.
edit - I did realise however that giving everyone a free bye every week is going to change everyone's win/loss record, if we choose to stick to the standard 'bye = win' rules. So I guess that will have to change.
I'd also like to vote for some simple format for next weeks game, as a friend of mine without a huge collection of figures is coming along, and I'd prefer that he didn't get scared off 8)

Thanoseid's team looks awesome and I imagine everyone else managed to play models that they just would not field at any other time.
Thanks for the feedback. This forum makes a local Sydney Heroclix community an open arena. It would be nice to see new Tourney players but the competitiveness of the core group (which I love) is a challenge that many players will not find comforting. I found it tricky with other venues 'house rules' merely because without the ability to prepare, having a fun time at a sanctioned constructed event can be tricky.
The only games I get in are comps. This thread is a life-line. Ta.
I am cool with BFC's, no BFC's whatever - I do think that feeding any info online will encourage players who can't necessarily turn up every week to get an idea of what is going down so as to be prepared when the opportunity arises.

That's the point of this thread - I'll probably start maintaining the SGC thread too, so that both CBD/inner west venues are easier for folks to turn up to.
I had a good talk with Paul at SGC this weekend, and the new regime looks like they'll be very friendly to clix. May even get some new players from the customers at Good Games (http://www.goodgames.com.au) near Central... apparently there are some guys who buy boosters there but didn't know about tournaments.

Do you guys know about Games Empire (http://www.gamesempire.com.au/index.php)?
They are a neat tiny little game shop in a tiny local 'shopping centre' next to Macquarie Uni. Young, keen polite operation. I buy the girl's Lego there.
Honestly, I have been quiet about them because they are pretty good, have a great little website and they sell' Clix and... singles. You can see what they have online, which makes comparing prices quite easy and their pricing is weird. I managed to swing a few little deals by buying there. It is not the sort of thing I'd talk about in another retailer's premises.
It costs me about $40 to travel:m-wing-trans: in and out of town, park and then I always try and buy some boosters at TS (or SGC, but I can't seem to swing it at the moment). 'Clix is like drugs. Gets me by but better with kids. As I am an impoverished single parent/full time student/lone homemaker the bucks are (seriously) scarce so buying a couple of figs after Uni is as good as it gets, a lot of the time. I was selfish. I bow my head in shame.
GE have attracted a few keen afficiandos of the game but these younger gamers FEAR competetive play and 'the sort of players' that most definitely include all of "us".
They want to start getting into the Organized Play thing too.
I'm in my last semester and planning to be both employed and living "in Sydney" by June (or I will probably implode). Back in the game, so to speak.
I will also probably be running a stall at Marrickville Markets on Sunday. Books, books, books and miscellany. Genre stuff (lots and lots), a little decent Lit. If anyone is curious, I will get together a rough list by Saturday night. Happy to sell off whatever 'Clix I can (my Trade list is innacurate, just too damn busy) but I have a lot of stuff. I will probably have to do this more than once to survive the next 13 weeks.

They want to start getting into the Organized Play thing too.Maybe you should get some regular games organised there? Light-hearted, fun stuff that won't intimidate the younger players.
I can definitely understand how regular tournaments might put them off. I remember my first tournament - I played the Dr Strange and Morgan le Fay and I was destroyed by Rory with OWAW Superman + Invisible Girl, and another team of Green Lantern carrying Stealth/Blades characters. If I didn't have a lot of perseverance I might not have ever come back. Fortunately I was getting in a lot of clix games at UNSW at the time.
I'd like to see more active work done to encourage clix in Sydney. At the very least, it would mean more people to trade with!

As I said - strange prices. I did not post thinking you (or I) or any of the TS or SGC types would be able to be involved in thier organised play. But it was the site and the ability to mail order locally that is GE's strength. The fact that they have a growing scene is why their singles collection is worth a mention now. It has got better and better over the past year.
Box for $2, Ahab... and if you have $7.50 they seem to have at least one Cuckoo. Of course, I would not have mentioned it if I had $7.50.
I could play after June, maybe, but I hope to be somewhere nearer town. Organize? Me? Ha ha ha! I believe I have logged my time in that arena.
My organizing time is well and truly tied up. My kids love daddy's Heroclix (thank God). Do you have any idea how tricky it is to teach Mina (with Luci around)? I almost wept when the Batman intro set was announced and it is out around her 8th birthday.
I have a Clix Blog but I am working on it before it goes public. I do try and encourage though you are truly mighty. Don't forget, I tried to drag you into the game a while before tempatation (the Surfer?) overwhelmed you and you transformed into glorious-'Clix-robot-awesome-rep-guy. If you did not have so much rep I would not mention it.

Next week, Thursday the 13th of March - Classic Alliances!
600 point constructed tournament.
Two rounds.
Retirement is not in effect.
Your force must consist of two (comic-accurate) teams that have worked together in the comics.
Any Questions?
Easy examples would include the Fantastic Four and Inhumans, X-Men and Avengers (1993) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloodties_%28comics%29), Justice League and Legion of Super-Heroes, X-Men and Teen Titans (1982), Defenders and Squadron Supreme, JLA/Avengers (2004) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JLA/Avengers), Ultimates/Ultimate X-Men/Ultimate Fantastic Four, Avengers/Guardians of the Galaxy, Green Lantern Corps and JLA, most combinations of X-teams, and so on.
This is going to be much easier in a single-universe force, but there are some crossover examples up there to work with.
They have to be actual teams, not just team-ups (for example, Superman and Silver Surfer have appeared together in a crossover, but as individual heroes).
We've voted to start using BFCs again, with the new tournament rules in place. You can bring two battlefield conditions, listed on your team sheet, and each round you can choose to play one that has not previously been played in the tournament.
EDIT: The winner was James H (Mr_Nobody) with the Teen Titans/X-Men!

400 point constructed tournament.
Retirement is not in effect.
Two rounds.
Build a comic-accurate team (minimum 380 points, no feats except for ATAs). Each round, your opponent plays this team.
Any Questions?
Clarifications:
Obviously the idea is to build as weak a team as possible while still remaining comic-accurate. No duplicates of named characters, no guest stars who don't belong on the team, no bystanders unless they are associated with the team, and so on.
It has to be an actual named team, not just a bunch of characters who appear on the same page of a comic, or whatever.
You still choose which battlefield condition to play (from the two that you bring) each game. It is perfectly valid to build a Batman Ally team and bring Bright Lights and Disbanded, for example.

Once during a player's turn, that player can choose one of his or her characters and an event dial currently showing on the dial. As long as the event is showing on the dial, all of the chosen character's powers and combat values are ignored, and it is considered to possess the ability symbols and combat values and can use the standard powers indicated by the event. If damage is dealt to the character or the character is healed while it is using the powers and abilities provided by the event, the character's dial is turned appropriately. All of the character's ignored powers and values return immediately when the event no longer shows on the dial.
Hourglass: At the end of each turn, roll 2d6. On a result of 2-5, turn the dial a number of times equal to the result.

Clik here (http://www.hcrealms.com/units.php?page=dial&id=crE005) for details on each hero.
EDIT: This week I came in first with a Gotham City thematic team of JL Batman, veteran Spoiler, and Alfred, while Matt (recovered enough to play clix, fortunately!) came in second with experienced Captain America (Armour Wars) and a bystander that I didn't take note of.
I think just about everybody had a thematic team tonight! Gotham City, Blackhawks, Skrulls, Monsters, and a few one-man armies.

What sort of comic-accurate teams were played last night?
Whose won and who won with it?I brought a Kree army, led by LE Captain Mar-Vell.
MODOC Snr had the Sinister Six with Kingpin and some of his lackeys.
MODOC Jnr brought Mole Man, moloids, and some generic monsters (represented by morlocks and Swamp-Thing).
Pat had a Sinister Six or Sinister Syndicate team too, I think - didn't get a close look at it.
I don't remember what James H actually played - he made three different teams, and I didn't play against him.
Are BFCs allowed for this game?Hmm, not sure. Tentatively yes?
(####, I just realised I'm going to miss this one as well)That's a shame, haven't played against you in ages!

I just hope nobody bring the 'Protect The Innocents' BFC then.

I got my dates mixed up actually, I _CAN_ make it for this. (First time in a month)
In other news, I don't know if you guys have heard, but Matt (Sgt Grimes) is in hospital atm from Meningitis, so he won't be seen for a while.
Anyway, I'll see everyone on thursday.

I just hope nobody bring the 'Protect The Innocents' BFC then. That would be nasty. It could also backfire badly when your opponent uses it against you.
I'm curious about how many thematic teams we'll see on Thursday. On one hand, it could be tricky to find good characters who share a keyword and add up to 100 points or less; on the other hand, if you play a one-man army (which some people will do) then you automatically get the benefit.

I brought the original sinister six, plus the seventh sinister six member in hobgoblin because I just couldn't have a version of the six without someone on a pumpkin glider. I also had the kingpin plus the enforcers. I was so proud of this (if I say so myself) I had a Henchman for Fancy Dan Crenshaw, a Thug for Ox and as Montana (the guy with the whips) a rookie Constrictor.
I used them figuring that if a single guy (Spidey) could consistently beat the tar out of them they wouldn't go well against a whole force.
Which they didn't - they first fell to Zero's whole-lotta-Kree, then they fell to James H's Birds of Prey giving me the win for the night.
I'm doing well with my teams of teams lately - I came second in the team up game with a force teaming up Red Skull (with Hydra) and Viper (with the Hand) and M.O.D.O.K. (with A.I.M.) - Hail Hydra!

Cool.
I was a little confused as to who won what but the MODOK teams of evil:devious: sound great. The game formats at TS are pretty groovy. James H's post is mind boggling but it looks like uber-fun.

Next week, Thursday the 17th of April - Event Dials!
300 point constructed tournament.
Retirement is not in effect.
Two rounds.
After the map is chosen, each player rolls 2d6. The player who rolls highest chooses an event dial that is in play for that game. You may not choose an event dial that either player has played in a previous round.
Due to the event dials in play each round, no battlefield conditions.
Any Questions?
Should be a couple of people with Planet Hulk!
EDIT: First place went to Matt (Sgt_Grimes) with a Psychics team of Jean Grey, Mister Mind, and Proteus; I believe that second went to MODOC Jnr with a mostly-aquatic team.
I played a "fishguys" team of Aqualad (Crisis), Aquaman (JL), Captain Mako (CoV), and Tempest (Crisis). Both games, the only figure lost was Aquaman. I guess he was the weakest link!

Should be a couple of people with Planet Hulk!
There's one slight problem with using the Planet Hulk dial, as it actually has special build rules for the game.
It requires for everyone to have a second 200 pt team of reinforcements, which it's a little late to try and get out to people who may not read this board.
Probably safer to just say no to Planet Hulk I guess, otherwise the ones prepared for it will have a huge advantage.
zero_cochrane
04/11/2008, 07:11
That's a good point. Not everybody will have 200 points worth of <40 point characters handy, and the extra time pre-game for somebody to put together their Reinforcements could be annoying.
I don't think any of the other event dials have any special build rules.

Hey guys can change regular tourneys from 300 points to 400 as it is very hard to make comic book theme teams..... even #### ones. I personally would like to see more real theme teams and less city, spy, soldier, martial artists and scientist teams.
zero_cochrane
04/14/2008, 05:20
I also prefer non-generic themes.
I don't think that city-based thematic teams are the same as spy or martial artist teams, though - if everybody in a team is from Gotham City or Metropolis, that's universe-specific and pretty thematic. Even Atlantis (which is cross-universe) is more thematic than Spy.

So sue me, I don't remember exactly what this is called. I'm not even 100% convinced I got the five team members right. I'll update as soon as I've checked.
400 point constructed tournament.
Retirement is not in effect.
Two rounds.
Your force must consist of exactly five characters:
The Leader: A character with Leadership or the Ruler keyword.
The Smart Guy: A character with the Detective, Psychic, or Scientist keyword.
The Big Guy: A character with the Brute, Soldier, or Warrior keyword, or a giant/colossal character.
A character with the Spy keyword.
The Face: A character with the Celebrity or Reporter keyword.

for the record its FIVE MAN BANDS.
a particularly common archetype in cartoons, comics and live action television.
400 points, your team must consist of exactly five figures one of whom must fulfil each of these roles-
THE LEADER- has the leadership power or the ruler keyword
THE LANCER- has a wildcard team ability or the spy keyword
THE BIG GUY- is a giant or collosal figure or has the Brute, Soldier or Warrior keyword.
THE BRAINS- has the psychic, detective or scientist keyword.
THE FACE- has the celebrity or Reporter keyword.
(technically the archetypal fifth man in a five man band is the chick. but the Face is the most common replacement in the age of more gender diverse teams)

400 point constructed tournament.
Retirement is not in effect.
Two rounds, two battlefield conditions.
Pick a letter. All of your characters, feats, and battlefield conditions must begin with the chosen letter.
Any Questions?
Note: The first letter of a character's name is determined by whatever is printed on the dial. This means that you could have a T-Team of The Spectre, The Atom, and Tony Stark.
I am expecting a majority of S-teams; it is quite simply one of the most common initials. S-teams are going to suffer from a lack of battlefield conditions and feats, though!
EDIT: The tournament was won by Pat with his team of Captains and Colonels!

Giants are getting a few improvements! Being able to carry is a pretty big deal.
They're losing the ability to force a breakaway from two squares away, but ignoring characters for the purposes of movement and being able to carry make up for that.

Can you pack multiples of a BFC for this as there's a limited choice involved?I believe the implication from our discussion on Thursday was that some letters are low on BFCs, but as there is no rule about the minimum number of BFCs that you can bring, you can bring less than two if you don't have enough options for both rounds.

Build two teams - one of Earth-based heroes, and one of aliens.
The player who rolls to go first chooses which team he will play that round (Earth defenders or alien invaders). The other player must choose the opposed team.
If either or both of your teams is a thematic team, use the lower bonus when rolling to determine which player goes first and chooses the map.

Obviously characters with no keywords will be easiest to build around here. Common keywords like Martial Artist make things hard - if you choose one Martial Artist for your force, that's the only character with that keyword you can have.
EDIT: I came in first this week, with a force that really had no commonalities whatsoever: Arcade, Ghost Rider 2099, veteran HIVE Trooper, experienced Multiple Man, Nighthawk (modded veteran Deathstroke), rookie Scarlet Witch (Fantastic Forces), and LE Super-Nova.

Any Questions?
Most of us have a Pariah event dial, so bring yours along!
EDIT: Dion's "Crisis of Infinite Batman" team beat my "Ares and his Soldiers" team for the win!
No great surprise, but the range-focused Soldiers didn't do too well against the sneaky Batmen. Pretty soon it was down to just Ares... and then he started to do some damage, and Pariah turned against them too. In the end over four of the seven Batmen were eliminated before Ares went down for the count.
This made up for the way that the Soldiers took down World's Finest without a single loss in the game we'd played earlier.

Also - a note for players at the Tin Soldier who may have a bunch of commons lying around that they wouldn't mind giving to a good home...
There are a couple of people frequently at the Tin Soldier who might appreciate them. The first is a (French?) gentleman named Guillaume, who was interesting in picking up some for his kids to play with (the oldest is nine). He thinks that they'd love characters they're likely to recognise, but anything would be cool. Guillaume is prepared to exchange a little money for unwanted commons - I didn't ask how much, as I probably have some that I'll never use anyway that I'd be happier going to a new home. Especially if the oldest kid gets a couple of boosters of Batman AlphaClix some time and eventually becomes a clix player!
The second is a woman named Laura who has played a couple of games of War Machine but also picked up three or so Marvel HeroClix boosters (got a super rare in her first one...). I think that Laura is visiting the Tin Soldier mainly to find people to play games with (she's originally from Darwin?). Maybe she'll prove to be too much a War Machine fanatic for us to steal her away for our Thursday night tournaments, but personally I am all for giving a few figures away to somebody who might be interested in looking at the game.

Next week, Thursday the 26th of June - Alpha!
300 point constructed tournament. You must field at least five characters, and you receive three actions per turn.
Retirement is not in effect.
Two rounds.
No battlefield conditions, feats, or special objects.
Instead of normal HeroClix rules, each game is played according to the Alpha rules (http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/documents/DCalphaRules_LO.pdf) and the Alpha Powers card (http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/documents/HCAlpha_PAC.pdf). All game elements not part of HeroClix Alpha will be ignored, and the following additional Alpha event rules will be in place:
:m-wing: and :m-wing-trans: symbols function as if the character possessed the Leap power.
Bystander tokens are permitted, and they do count for KOs.
Figures with bases larger than 1 square are not permitted.
Reinforcements should be limited to five additional characters.
If 5 KOs are not reached before time is called, the player with the most KOs is the winner. In the event of ties, the player who went second is the winner.
Any Questions?
Obviously the simplest way to build your force is to use characters from the Batman Alpha game, but you can also use regular HeroClix characters (note that characters with Barrier, Impervious, Battle Fury, or special powers may not be as good). See this page (http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/dc/gameresources.asp?cid=41784) for more details about playing an Alpha game using regular HeroClix characters.

According to the Alpha rules sheet, you're supposed to put those small maps together to play a game. A regular map is only going to be slightly larger than four Alpha maps together; I don't think it's going to be a problem.

1050 point constructed tournament (but see below); three actions per turn.
Retirement is not in effect.
No battlefield conditions.
Your force must consist of exactly six characters, one each from the following brackets:
1-50 points
51-100 points
101-150 points
151-200 points
201-250 points
251-300 points

Note: The minimum force build possible with these six brackets is 756 points. The maximum force build possible with these six brackets is 1050 points - a 294 point difference. I don't recommend that you play a force of less than 900 points, but whatever works for you!

Can you help me get home?Any Character adjacent to Willie but not adjacent to any other opposing characters may take a power action to give Willie a move action.
I think its this way at the end of any full turn in which Willie hasn't moved the player whose starting zone is furthest from Willie may give willie a move action.
If Willie is inside your starting zone when the round ends you gain 40 bonus points
no points are gained for KO'ing Willie.

Modoc was playing some form of Silver Surfer, a Booster Gold, and Bronze Tiger to honour the olympics.
He then also included a Blue Beetle to round out the team.
Of course he too would have known the bitter taste of Defeat if he had been foolish enough to meddle in Dooms affairs!

Next Week, Thursday the 28th of August - Family Ties!
400 point constructed tournament.
Retirement is not in effect.
Two rounds, two battlefield conditions.
Each of your characters must be related (by blood or by official familial ties such as adoption/marriage) to at least one other character.
Any Questions?
The judge has ruled clones to be okay (as they are obviously "related by blood"). So if you're a bit short on characters that form a traditional family you can certainly fill out your force with duplicates of one of the characters.
A whole bunch of Jean Greys, Cyclops, Havok, and Cable, for example, would be fine.
EDIT: I came in first tonight, with a team of Magneto, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, and Victor Shade (the Vision, who was married to Wanda).

[QUOTE=zero_cochrane;3814985]Next Week, Thursday the 4th of Semptember - Team-Up!
200 point constructed tournament.
Retirement is not in effect.
Two rounds, two battlefield conditions.
Each round, you will be paired with one other player, and fight against two other players. All of the characters on your force and your ally's force are considered friendly to one another.
If the number of players is not evenly divisible by four, the judge will allocate players to tables in the most equal way possible.
Any Questions?
The judge hasn't made a ruling on how points are to be shared between allied players - I guess they'd share points equally.
Theme teams only get a bonus to map choice if both allied players have the same theme.
Each player can play one BFC each, which means up to four BFCs per game.
EDIT: The winner was M.O.D.O.C., with a team of Batman (Justice League), Mr. Mind, and Dream Girl. He walked away with SR Annihilus!

Next Week, Thursday the 11th of Semptember - Planet Hulk!
400 point constructed tournament.
Retirement is not in effect.
Two rounds, no battlefield conditions.
The Planet Hulk event dial is in play. Search for E100 Planet Hulk in the Units section if you're unfamiliar with how the event dial works.
Any Questions?
Note:
When building their forces, each player can also choose characters with a combined point value of up to 200 points per 300 points of the game's build total; no character chosen this way can have a point value more than 40 points. These characters are reinforcements. They remain outside the game until called upon by the Rebellion effect. This means that you need to bring an additional 200 points of reinforcements, none of which can cost more than 40 points (Batman Alpha could help here). These characters aren't part of your force at the beginning of the game, so they shouldn't be considered when deciding if your force qualifies as a thematic team.
EDIT: Tonight's winner was Sgt_Grimes, followed by DrGirlfriend, Tha0seid, and then myself (All I KOd was Toad). It turns out that the Skrulls fare rather badly on Planet Hulk. D'ast obedience disks... Who knew?

Next Week, Thursday the 18th of Semptember - Skrull Traitor’s Draft!
400 point constructed tournament (restricted).
Two rounds.
No Main Tactics (No Feats / Bystander Tokens / Battlefield Conditions / Special Objects)
Just before figures are placed for setup, instead remove all figures from the game. The player going first chooses a character on any team and adds that character to his or her force; continue drafting characters until both players have an equal number of characters. If there is an odd number of figures, the final figure is left out of the game.
The player going second chooses to play either SKRULLS or HUMANS. If they choose SKRULLS, all characters they control gain the Skrulls team ability. If they choose HUMANS, all characters they control gain that player’s choice of the Avengers, Fantastic Four, or S.H.I.E.L.D. team ability. The player going first assumes the other role. Ignore all printed team abilities and theme team abilities (including the map roll bonus). At the end of the game, return all figures to their owners.
Any Questions?
EDIT: A quiet week this week - just Mr_Nobody and myself. I brought a team of Shi'ar and Majestrix Lilandra, and he brought a bunch of 50-point characters.
I drafted Batman, Bouncing Boy, Commissioner Gordon, four Shi'ar Admirals, a Shi'ar Warrior, and Spider-Man. Mr_Nobody drafted Arachne, Beast, Green Arrow, Majestrix Lilandra, Raza, She-Thing, two Shi'ar Admirals, and a Shi'ar Warrior. I chose the Fantastic Four team ability and he received Skrulls.
The Commish was my MVP, with his Defend and the Admirals' Combat Reflexes combining to a nigh-unhittable 19 defence. The Shi'ar Warrior was surprisingly successful, and the Admirals were deadly. The FF TA was also very helpful - I did a lot of pushing. Arachne avoided all of my attempts to hit her until the very end of the game - so many successful Skrull TA and Super Senses rolls that I literally lost count. Only when every single one of her allies was KOd did Arachne go down.

Next Week, Thursday the 25th of Semptember - Skrull Accusation! (Secret Invasion scenario 2) (http://www.wizkidsgames.com/wk_article.asp?cid=41815)
400 point constructed tournament (restricted).
Two rounds.
No Main Tactics (No Feats / Bystander Tokens / Battlefield Conditions / Special Objects)
At the beginning of the game, each player secretly writes down up to half of the characters on their force (rounded up, minimum 1). Those characters are Skrulls; other characters not written down are Humans. During the game, note which character “struck the final blow” and defeated each opposing character.
The rule stating, “if only one player has characters left on the board, he is the winner” is suspended. Wins are based solely on victory points. At the end of the game, reveal all Skrulls and determine victory points as follows rather than the normal way:
Each Skrull who was defeated by a Skrull, or Human who was defeated by a Human, is worth half as many victory points as normal (round up).
Each Skrull who was defeated by a Human, or Human who was defeated by a Skrull, is worth 1.5 times the normal amount of victory points (round up).
Additionally, once per game, a character on your team can use a power action to “accuse” an adjacent opposing character of being a Skrull. Your opponent must tell you whether that character is a Skrull or not. If not revealed as a Skrull, the accusing character takes 1 click of unavoidable damage. If the character is revealed as a Skrull, the accusing character is healed of 1 damage and the revealed character loses all team abilities, gains the Skrull team ability, and gets -1 to its printed attack and defence values for the rest of the game.
Any Questions?
Notes
Each round of the tournament, you should write down who is a Skrull on a separate piece of paper, fold it, and place it under the map until the game is over.
For those characters, who through pushing or other damage not from an opponent are defeated, the opposing character that most recently damaged them (or if none did, the nearest opposing character) is considered the one who “struck the final blow.”
Your selection of who you write down as a Skrull can change from round to round in the tournament.

In the matchup between Khaine and Mr_Nobody, Khaine had a terrible run of luck - he only once rolled above a 7, so I believe that was a loss.
Mr_Npbpdy also pulled a victory against M.O.D.O.C. due to successfully guessing who M.O.D.O.C.'s skrulls would be, and targeting them with his humans (thus scoring more points). He had two wins; it's just that my own second win was so strong (over 450 points).

Previously, if a wc character picked a team ability to make an action illegal (ie changed to Batman Ally when someone shot at them) they had to stay that team ability during the rest of the action done by the character that attempted to shoot them.
Now, because they made that attack illegal another figure can take the follow up action and the WC _CAN'T CHANGE THEIR TEAM ABILITY_ for this.

poor Rob never had a chance.I agree with Rob actually - his dice hated him. He missed an easy shot with Despero, and followed it up by rolling a 2 on Crimson Fox's B/C/F. If those attacks had gone home, Anti-Monitor would have been off Destined Destructor (which was the bane of his team, due to his high defences) and Despero would have lived much longer.

Even OotS Batman would have been a pain.
His Outwit wouldn't do anything, but he can move from hindering to hindering and make ranged attacks - he's likely to hit, for 1 damage after Invulnerability each time. The Anti-Monitor has to base Stealth, and thus has to chase Batman (distracting him from attacking other characters).
I maintain that the SCAM< had a field day because it didn't face any teams with serious ways to deal with heavy damage reducers and immunity to Outwit. Neither the Metal Men nor the Justice League + Despero would have coped well against the FF starter Dr. Doom with Fortitude, and we saw a couple of weeks of that. Hercules would have got first strike and knocked the SCAM right past his Invulnerability in one action; with two heavy objects SCAM would be six clicks down, or Hercules could grab a single Meteorite and have SCAm at about click seven. That's without Perplex.
I probably won't play SCAM again for awhile (and maybe with a bit more warning than just saying "I could play a one-figure team" the week before) but I don't think he's as hard to beat in 400 as Starro is in 600.

Next Week, Thursday the 16th of October - Share the Power!
400 point constructed tournament.
Retirement is not in effect.
Two rounds, two battlefield conditions.
All of your characters must possess the same power on their first click. This may not be a move-and-attack power; i.e., you can't pick Running Shot, Charge, or Hypersonic Speed as the shared power.
Any Questions?
Notes: Special powers will be considered "shared" if they have the same name (for example, multiple characters have a power called "Smash"). A power granted by a special power does not count as part of a shared set (e.g., Ms Marvel doesn't belong on an all-Stealth team; she has Exfiltration, not Stealth).
EDIT: I came in first this week, playing a Green Lantern Corps team (common power: Telekinesis) that Mr_Nobody put together. Second was Sgt Grimes (Super Senses), M.O.D.O.C. Jnr (Perplex), Khaine (Super Senses), M.O.D.O.C. (Willpower), and Mr_Nobody (Probability Control).

Retirement is not in effect.
Two rounds, no battlefield conditions.
Your team must consist of all Marvel heroes or all Marvel villains. If heroic, you must include Spider-Man or a Spider-Man Ally character in your force. If villainous, you must include a Sinister Syndicate (or other traditional Spider-Man villain) character in our force.

There's no denying that it was a really tough team to beat. I thought that my best option was to cripple Hydro-Man and Dr Octopus without KOing them, and then move onto the Living Lasers. That gets rid of the troublesome Leadership and Defend.
And while this was certainly doable (you didn't seem to notice that I could Leap past the Living Lasers to get to them - or maybe you didn't care ;)) it's also a much slower offense than I like. It's probably going to take one turn each to cripple those two supporting characters; in the meantime, your Living Lasers are mopping up with 5 damage ranged attacks. My only real chance was to get a run of good luck on Super Senses, and that didn't happen.
I think that most of us would now agree that Living Laser is probably "too good" in Alpha. What you get for his cost is much more than any similarly-priced character I can think of.

I'm going to be not turning up to clix for awhile, as I find myself wearing my angry pants way too much lately when I'm playing, and I don't like myself and the way I acted very much afterward.
I wanted to say sorry to Modoc and Sgt Grimes for being a whingy b***h on thursday night as well.
I'll see you guys in a few months when I have my head in a more sportsmanlike place.

I'm sorry to hear that you've not been enjoying the game. If you can think of ways that they could be made more fun for you again, feel free to have a chat (in these threads, a PM, whatever) because I'm sure that most people would want to help everybody have a fun evening.
In the meantime, take care.

Hi ZC,
It's more a personal thing atm more than the lack of fun in the games themselves. Possibly I'm burnt out on 'clix, or possibly it's stress from other parts of my life interfering with my enjoyment of the game. So I'll take some time off, get my love of the game back and my head together, and then return. I'll still probably pop in from time to time so I won't be a stranger.
Cheers,
Sgt Grimes

Hey maybe we could have some home games so you could play with the new set?

Rang tin soldier and they still have not received clix yet. What should we bring instead? 400-500 point non generic theme team?

Glad I got my case from King's Comics now.
Stupid Croftminster.
As for the home games SG, I'm gonna pass for now. As I said, I think I'm just burnt out on playing atm.

We ended up playing 300 points sealed out of whichever sets you wanted.
DrGirlfriend came first, myself second, BB_downunder third and BadManKhaine fourth. In the very likely event that Arkham isn't in by next thursday it'll be a 500 point unrestricted game. If Arkham is in, we'll play the sealed.

Sealed AA or 500 Constructed?
Lunchtime 6/11 and nothing posted yet.
Does anyone have any data yet?

Just bring the 500 point team. I would assume that they still don't have them....

None of the stores in Melbourne have it yet either, So I would not hold my breath on any sealed anytime soon

The winner was Sgt Grimes with a Gotham City team, followed by BB_downunder with the Avengers, myself with the Infinity Watch, and BadManKhaine with the Rogues.
Next week will either be an Arkham Asylum sealed, or a Hypertime sealed - buy one starter (at a discount cost) and play all of the characters contained within.

I guess you could do worse, but personally I'd rather pull Darkseid... or vet Hawk...

For cost effectiveness yes, but if we are playing with everything in the starter supes is much better.

... eh, I don't know. I think that Darkseid could still take him to pieces. Outwit and Psychic Blast should punch through Superman's defences while preventing a Charge.
