View Full Version : HCR Custom Clix Contest - Semi-Final Voting (Pt 1)
At the beginning of this month, the HCRealms Artisan's Guild came together for the 1st Annual Custom Clix Contest. The contestants were each asked to enter a team, much like the Danger Room starter set, that consisted of a pre-built, comic-accurate team.
They created their new sculpts, matched them up with dials that WizKids had produced so that their new creations would be 'tourney legal', added Feats as necessary, and submitted their creations in hopes of winning PayPal gift certificates and LE figures.
Now, it is up to you to help us determine the winner.
All that we request is that you please take a moment to take a look at each of the entrants below. Look at the mods themselves and, of course, take a look at the team builds. Then, pick the one that you like the best and cast your vote.

A note on voting: Due to constraints on the number of options allowed in each poll, voting will be divided (as evenly as I can) into two different divisions, or 'semi-finals', for the first round. Polls for the first round will close in 7 days. At that time, the top 6 vote-getter -- three from each division -- will advance into the 'finals'.

First off, algrim should be disqualified from every single contest. He and JacinB's work are equal to and many times exceeding the industry professionals. Beautiful work, simply beautiful!
That being said, I love something about every single entry.
Super Sabre from Freedom Force looks amazing!
The use of Puppet Master to make Leach for the Morlocks is brilliant.
Glob looks perfect in the Howling Commandos.
Cyclops is simple but appropriate for the character from Giant Sized X-men and the Wolverine repaint is one of the best I've ever seen.
Zan of the Superfriends - best mod ever!!!
However, algrim's stuff is flawless, so that's where my vote goes! Still, awesome work, everyone!!

Although I was following the contest it seems I missed a couple of entries along the way.

GAINT SIZED X-MEN!!!! lovin the repaints and Cyclops great customs!
Many high quality mods but the 'extras' on the Liberators got it for them. It did break my heart that the X-Men were SOOOOOO good looking, but with two of them being simply repaints I couldn't vote for them over the Liberators. I like the little Leech, too.

Liberators. I don't think it's close.it was close for me. liberators and superfriends are both so totally awesome. i ended up going with libers, but the supers were oh so very close to having my vote.
I love the Superfriends set (actually all of them are great), but The Liberators are amazing. They look better than what we buy from packs.
I was wondering if this was ever going to hit the front page! Nice work to everyone, but I voted for the Giant-Sized X-Men :)

Well, first of all kudos to JacinB for the concept - but secondly, major plaudits for all the contestants for such dedicated undertakings! They are all obviously real labours of love. Well done guys (and gals?) - thanks for sharing them with us!
My vote has gone, perhaps predictably (being a Marvel geek), to the Liberators - mainly because the amount of work necessary to get these figs to look like brand-new, professionally-sculpted figs must have been huge. Add to that the top-quality paint-job and this wins my vote.
However - as I say - they are all great. The X-Men team is great (excellent paint jobs) - and all the others have really thought about the themes concerned and done them justice.

Liberators by a long mile, but both the Super Friends, Invaders, and Giant Size X-men should get some praise for solid work. If Liberators weren't there Giant Size would have my vote.

For me it was EXTREMELY close between Giant-Sized X-Men and the Liberators, but I chose X-Men because I'm more familiar with them than the Liberators.

It was close for me too. The custom jobs and repaints are simply amazing on both the Liberators, the X-men, and the SuperFriends. In the end I went with the set that I'd most like to own, and that's the SuperFriends. I'd love to have the TV-specific characters that we'll probably never get in clix form.
A close second for me was actually the X-men. The customs are simpler than the other two, but the paint jobs rock for the most part. The only one that bothers me is Colossus - it's a great job, but I don't like paint jobs that mimic what's done in the comics for metallics. At least with comic book characters it makes more sense than when I see it done in other miniatures games (40K, Warmachine, WHFB).
The X-men entry has pretty much inspired me to do my own Nightcrawler mod...the one here looks WAY cooler than the mess we got in REV form. ;)
Liberators were (a close) third. Great conversions and paintjobs.

I liked them all, and at first the morlocks had my eye, but the liberators stole my heart. :laugh:
I don't even enter the contests because I know Algrim is going to win. He makes the nicest stuff. He's my hero.

liberators man! Those look awsome, and that's my vote with Superfriends and Giant Size X-Men comin' in close second as a tie
The Liberators definitely looked great, but Freedom Force got my vote. Super Sabre was just amazing!

All the entries were great in their own way and for what they put together. Just the amount of time put into these is really amazing. My vote went to algrim and the Liberators, but fighting right to the end were the Giant Sized X-Men by themod and the Superfriends by daredevil11.
Can't wait for the next round.

I chose subject matter to decide upon Freedom Force as those 3 old guys will never get made....Not the highest quality of the choices, but definately got me worked up the most as wanting to mimic. As a modder myself...the need to copy someone's else work is a benchmark and no compliment is better than to have someone copy your work!

Nothing is more classic than Superfriends!
This was close, as I am an X-men fan and that Cpt. Cyclops was really cool, as well as the Nightcrawler. But The Liberators was so sweet... had to go with them

As I understand it, this is not only a mod challenge but fitting the mods into a "Starter Set" type of team.
This is not an easy vote as there are some beautiful pieces over-all from each contestants. I would gladly purchase a set of any one of these...period.
Alas, we have to vote for only one and I narrowed my semi-final choices down to two teams: Liberators and Superfriends. These two in particular stand out for me for different reasons. The Liberators show a meticulous sort of detail in the paint schemes that blew me away, just freakin' beautiful. The Superfriends not only show a unique creativity but gave us one of the creepiest mods (yet so simple) I've ever seen: Zan. heh Something about that will always haunt me but that's a good thing since the best way to get someone to talk about your mods is to get someone to notice.
Since I was in a sort of virtual "tie" between these two, I looked at the other factor: the mods as a team. So I looked over the builds and the choices made and there I have to give it to the Liberators for being pure and not adding on any sort of pit crew.
So there you have it in a long-winded explanation: my vote goes for the Liberators.
Dang, I just have to say that my creative juices are flowing again after seeing such good work from so many places. Well done everyone! :grin:
Freedom Force gets my vote.

I was going to vote Morlocks but ultimately decided on the Superfriends. Some of those look like they could be legit sculpts.

Leberators and Giant-Sized X-Men are some of the best painting I've ever seen, but X-Men gets my vote due to tha fact that I can tell if they're accurate or not. I don't know who the Liberators are.
The Liberators are very nice.
They were not a vote option but The SOVIET SUPER SOLDIERS looks great for next round.

I must say, although The Liberators are the favored mods, I am impressed with the quality of all the entrants and of the attention to detail that I see in every mod that's been done. I give major cudos to those who entered into this and I wanted to add that it came down to three choices for me and it was a hard choice to make. Each one deserves rep points for what they did. Great job all around.
Is there a reason why the results for this round still aren't showing? We really need them to be revealed so that we can get on with the Finals.
