Anyone familiar with the HC scene in and around DFW? I know that there are several venues that have regular events, but I was hoping that someone might be able to shead some light on to those events.

Which ones are well attended and fun? What's the crowd like? Older, younger, good mix?

Thanks!
Matt

Well, in North Dallas, There are a couple of games.

Hobby Town has one on Friday night - usually has pretty decent turn-out - older crowd

Game Chest in Valley View Mall has one on Wednesday nights around 7 (usually starts AT 7, unless some heavy trading is going on). Crowd is older, and some of the teams are kinda cutthroat - very competitive.

In Plano, Madness has a tourney on Sunday afternoons at 2 - pretty good crowd. Players vary in age from 15 up to 30+.

Those are the ones that I know about - PM me if you want any more info!!!

Fri evening - Lone Star Central (Abrams in Arlington)
haven't played there in awhile, so not sure of the make-up, but a longstanding tournament and group.

Sat AM - Hobby Town, S Hulen Fort Worth - older group, themes and scenarios often used, no retirement, Highlander.

Sat PM - Lone Star Southwest Arlington - off Green Oaks Blvd - relatively new tournament, mostly younger group.

Sun PM - Y2Komics, Granbury Rd & Trail Lake Dr, Fort Worth - mixed group, themes. This venue has hosted the last two pre-releases.

I play as often as I can (not as often as I'd like) at any of the last three. I think they're all great, but I'm biased. I started two of the tournaments before letting others take them and the third was a long time player in my tounament before developing his venue.

I bet there are a couple ACU kids (Abilene) that play, and I'd be AMAZED if there aren't a couple more at Tech!!

I'm in law school, so I'm a bit isolated from the general Tech population.

I know this thread has been quiet for awhile, but I encourage any DFW players to go to the Lone Star shop in Arlington on Green Oaks (i can give directions). I'll be playing there over the holidays and summers and every tournament I go to, there seems to be a lack of participants, especially experienced gamers and, well the more the marrier you know?

You might check out Markie Dee's Comics Candies & Toys in Abilene. I contacted them way back in July and they seemed very receptive to me coming out to play, but it just never panned out for me. I remain unsure of how many players they get on a regular basis, but it might be worth the try.

I'm in San Angelo, but I travel back to the Fort Hood area to play Clix with my old group. One of my old opponents is going to be joining me here soon, so I'll get to play at least a little more often... we might even try to get something going at the local game shop here!

Most of you are aware there won't be Wizkids at WWT this year. I made a petition in hopes of changing their mind for next year:

Markie's closed this month. I was a pretty avid player there. Although, there's a new comic store called Premiere Comics and there are actually quite a bit of people that show up there for HC.

i suggest if you are going to go to the Lonestar comic stores watch out.

I was a judge at one of them. when the management changed at my store. Suddenly the players were being charged to play in regular build games. The Prize support suddenly went missing. Out of the three they had there for my tournament that week (ie Victor Von Doom) they had only one there, the other two suddenly vanished. not only that but the tournaments are held at 2 o'clock. One of my players showed up at 1:40p, they gave him the prize and he left. when i told them i would report it to wizkids, the manager promptly kicked me out of the store and said never comeback.

SO AVOID LONESTARS OR AT LEAST THEIR HURST STORE.

Judy (the chains owner) struck me as a good person until their Customer Service became lets screw over the player and if you don't like it get out!

Abilene is up and running regularly. Check us out a Premiere Comics. And when I'm in the metroplex, I'll be sure to stop in at Hobby Town. Im always down for a good scenario.:classic:

Can anyone post enough details on some upcoming Dallas tournaments that I could find them having never been there before? I'll be driving down from Oklahoma.

Shop phone numbers would be a huge help, as well.

Abilene is still running unrestricted tourney with the store owner throwing in a booster as a prize. And we have other things planned as well.

I would look up the places that run Magic with the store/event locator (http://www.wizards.com/magic/multiverse/default.aspx) and call to ask if they also play Heroclix

I'm new to Heroclix and I live in the Mid Cities area (Euless). The clerk at Generation X comics in Bedford said I might be able to grab a table or 2 in their game room on the 2nd or 4th Saturdays of the month. Anyone ineterested in playing HC there? Alternatively, Heroplex comics in Watuaga would let me use a table or 2 for gaming, assuming they'll have tables in their new location.

Anyone know if Hobbytown USA off of Walnut Hill and 75 is running tournaments? They have a small sign that says they run them on Fridays, but I'm just wondering if they have any prize support and if anyone from these boards goes to them?

I have been also thinking about Comic Asylum in Garland. They used to run them, but I think they have gone to an all Magic and Warhammer schedule.

I'm looking to get into the tournament scene again to play some games aginst some real people, but I don't want to have to drive to Abliene or Houston to play games.

Thank you,

Mathew B.

Hobbytown USA and Comic Asylum no longer runs Heroclix tournaments. Some of the same guys play at Lone Star Dallas on Sundays @ 2pm. Also try Madness Comicx/Games in Plano, Saturdays at 12pm. Another Venue is Game Trade on Tuesdays at 6pm in Mesquite (across from AMC 30).

Sundays at 1pm we play at Game Master in Rowlett. 6+ players and crowd is 21-50. Format varies weekly but NO BFC and Highlander are the house rules.

I've got a tiny group (read: me, my friend, and my girlfriend) up here in Denton, but I'm always willing to put together a small tournament. If anyone in the area is up for a game, PM me!

Just wanted to give you all the heads up, this is just off the Lone Star Comics Dallas Facebook page:

Hey Lone Star fans!! This Wednesday the 15th we will have a release party for the new set of Heroclix!! Artist Michael Champion will be here, we will have snacks and drinks and lots and lots of Heroclix!! There is a booster draft at 6, and since you are already coming in to pick up your new comics you should stick around for a demo or to play!!

I might be there if I can scrape the cash together to get two boosters to play with.
