T2 is a rare thing - a good sequel. I'm not sure I'd say it's better than the original, but it's good. The effects certainly were miles ahead of Terminator, and the action scenes were great. Both are intelligently written. This one builds logically on the first, as opposed to just throwing the same formula together. I'll say 8.75 for this one.

T2 was better then the first. Some Joe Shmo vs. Robot = Suspensful. Better robot vs. Robot = Awesome.
8.75/10

the Terminator is an awesome B-movie, T2 is a awesome A-movie.
both have a good story and the Terminator unfolded that storyline in one of the greatest manners, what T2 lacked in story they made up with the most awe-inspiring Special effects !
T2 9.75/10 a awesome sequel and as a stand-alone an awesome movie !!

Personally Id say that the original Terminator is a sci fi classic, one that not only brought its star to the Hollywood limelight, but its director as well (both of them going off and becoming HUGE players) I dont see Terminator being a B movie at all, as its story was great, its villain a now classic, and its effects not bad in the least for its day (sure it wasnt ground breaking as T2 was, but few films in history were)
To me, I loved both T1 and T2, though Id say T1 is by far the more original and creative film. T2 is basically the same exact thing as its original, just with a new set of Hero/Villain. Dont get me wrong, I loved them both, but the only thing T2 has over the Terminator is the effects and the creation of the T-1000.
Both are Great films, Classic Sci Fi, and truly worthy and deserving movies overall. To me, Im going to give this the same as I did the original Terminator and go with a 9.50. While this loses a bit in its copy of the originals storyline, it gains more for its truly groundbreaking special affects.
Terminator 2 - 9.50 / 10

T2 is groundbreaking, extremely entertaining and one of the best sequels ever.
Rating: 9.25
DTM's review is great, and T1 shouldn't be underestimated at all. But, this second episode is even greater to me than the first one, mainly because Cameron managed to make the puny Robert Patrick even more frightening than Arnold. The special effects in this movie truly serve the purpose of the film, which is hardly often the case with fancy 3D effects in movies nowadays (well, this is a highly questionable opinion of course, but it's mine). Arnold is great during the whole movie, Linda Hamilton is still a perfect Sarah Connor, music is really nice, and Cameron's shooting is great (except for that slow-motion scenes :ermm:, but whatever... ). T2 is one of my favorite movies of all times, so I'll rate it according to this.
10/10.

Sums it up exactly. Inlike Aliens, which I think is better than Alien, I think Terminator is better than T2.... mostly because Arnold tries to act. And his lack of acting ability enhanced the first one so much.
8.75 for me.
T (or, T1) has one thing sorely lacking in the rest of the franchise...Arnold as a villain. I really dislike that after a certain point in his 'star-dom' he decided that he always has to be 'the good guy'...T2 is just the biggest example of this (bad, IMO) career move.
Anywho, depsite that criticism T2 holds together as a great action movie.
Besides the cutting-edge 'morphing' effects, IIRC this was probably one of the earliest movies that best maximized cross-over with MTV because of a video...there were earlier successess (Duran Duran's View to a Kill) but as I recall, the G'N'R video (I can't even recall which song!) totally dominated the MTV countdown because it showcased the new SFX!
I cannot deny this movie a 8.5/10

Not to nitpick, but that was actually Cameron's previous movie, The Abyss. One thing that T2 did bring into the mainstream was the "come see it the night before!" advance preview that has come to typify summer blockbusters (Independence Day did it much bigger a few years later). Drunky briefly mentioned the music, but I think that's not giving it enough attention. I actually look at the Terminator movies as a bit analogous to the Star Wars series. In both series, the second movie is widely regarded to be the best. And in that second movie, you get perhaps the most distinctive piece of music to be used in each series. In Empire, it's the Imperial March. In T2, they really push the "ta-tum tum TUM-TUM" percussion bit (it's the first thing that I think of when someone mentions the movie - not the effects, not the story, but that chunk of soundtrack). The film had comic moments (they work a bit better if you watch the director's cut), great action sequences, and career-starting performances by Robert Patrick and Edward Furlong (sadly, the role of Sarah seems to have limited the roles that Linda Hamilton gets). Oh, yeah, and it had that governor guy in it, too. I'll give T2 an enthusiastic 8.75 (it was a 9.25, but I had to dock it a half point for adding a movie's worth of hackneyed catchphrases to Schwarzenegger's public speaking lexicon).

To be fair, I liked the terminator better than T2, but this one had very cool special effects and awesome scenes.
8.2 out of ten (5 hundreths of a point lower than the first . . .)

Good villain and movie but just not quite the impact of the original for me. 8

bad acting, bad script, lots of things blow up = really boring. I need a lot more than this snorefest has to offer to keep me interested, each the three leads are all laughably poor actors and the script has just enough story to take us from one thing blowing up to the next.
3.5 out of 10
Ouch! Quick, hide the Terminator 1 link before lennie can make his way there and trash that Sci Fi Classic as well!!! :) :p

Liked Terminator more. Yes, T2 has great action and special effects. I also give props to the T1000. The dude was sick. But here's why this film falls a little short to me compared to the first.
1. They made Arnold the good guy. He's a freakin' Terminator, Terminator's shouldn't be good guys, let alone good guys who don't terminate anything. Other than some property of course.
2. He takes orders from that freakin' annoying John Connor. I know that was what he was programmed to do but man did I have beef with that. Although I blame Edward Furlong. He was just so annoying and downgright irritable. I kept saying to myself "Arnold, shoot the turd. Oh please shoot him." I do admit though I was a bit jealous, I mean I would love to have my own Terminator.
9.5/10. Great freakin' movie but the original will always be the superior in my eyes.

I'll give it an 8 as well.

Uh, you just gave the first Terminator a 9, not an 8. :) Care to re-rate one of both of them if you liked them equally?

I loved the first movie. BTW, it was the first movies I ever saw on VHS. I actually liked T2 better than the first. It flowed naturally from the first while adding more complexity to the story, more humor, better special effects, and had overall better underlying messages. The first one was strictly man vs killing machine, humanity's creation getting out of its control. The second one actually dealt with man's tendency for self destruction and what makes humanity worth saving.
And I'll always love when, after promising not to kill anyone, Arnold shoots the guard in the kneecaps and says to Conner, "He'll live."
I give T2 9.5 out of 10.
I loved this film when it first came out, the relentless chase by the tenacious T-1000 was very good stuff. Has aged just a tad but still a great film and I'll give it a 9/10.
