So, our next film, Classic or Crud, Hit or Miss, what say you ALL?

Our next film open for discussion, and ultimately an Overall RATING by you all:

THE ROAD WARRIOR

Let the discussions flow. Likes, dislikes, classic film or overhyped trash, and DONT FORGET to place an Overall Rating when youre done.

Its easy, just give a Rating from 1 (Jaws 4:The Revenge) to 10 (Jaws), and thats it. Course I'd love to have you all give reasons as to why you feel it deserves this Overall Rating, and more than encourage discussions with us all about them.

So, what say you all?

Next Film: ??????

When I first saw The Road Warrior, I didn't care for it. All my friends loved it though, so I wound up seeing it over and over again anyway. The fact that this was the original US release with the super-lame voice dubbing didn't help any either. The film did grow on me after a while, and the eventual release of the movie without the dubbed dialoge helped as well (what idiotic studio exec actually thought that Americans couldn't understand an Australian accent?) It's still a bit goofy though. Why would a band of people isolated in the Australian outback with little in the way of basic comforts choose to not only wear all white, but also somehow manage to keep it clean every day?! It's not a movie I'm interested in getting on DVD (unless it's supercheap maybe), but I'll catch it if it happens to be on every few years.

7/10

Well, it got us one movie closer to Thunderdome (my favorite entry in the series). And it provided lazy headline writers with the perfect lead when Mel ended up drunk and beligerent. The movie itself was fun. The Feral Kid sparked the imaginations of many a suburban boy who dreamed of one day owning his own razor boomerang. And the autogyro pilot remains my favorite character (got a soft spot for the clever weasels of film history). Solid action scenes and a decent story combine to create a great movie to catch on cable at 2:30 on a Sunday afternoon. 7.5 from me.

Personally, I liked Road Warrior (which is simply called Mad Max 2 in New Zealand) quite alot. A much darker look into the world of Mad Max, which really showed off his no nonsense attitude, survival skills, and tough as nails abilities. Very brutal at times, this picture really showed the differences between good and evil in the face of genocial devastation. A really good story, definate suspense and action, and an interesting surprise ending (much of the idea was re-used for the Beyond Thunderdome) Mad Max is a true movie anti-hero, and this film is the first (and possibly only) to show him in all his dark and brooding glory.

The Road Warrior - 8 / 10

a great sci-fi classic and WAY better then the Mad Max film, because it really shows us new harsh world.

9.25/10 Thunderdome with Tina Turner was great too !!

THis was/is an incredible movie.
I agree this is more violent, and the imagery more intense than in any of the other two.
The funny thing about this movie is if you watch it, it does not feel dated. That in itself is an accomplishment in our age of super spiffy whizbang special effects. And Bennett is darn good in his role as well.

OTOH: I didn't know it was dubbed for American release...... sheesh.

9.0 'cuz Gibson plays a burnout really well.

Max: I'm just here for the gasoline.

Love it, even if I prefer the first one: the world in Mad Max is much closer from our world, and that makes it more scarier in a way... On the other hand I really like the atmosphere of this second movie, and the universe developped in the Road Warrior is one of the best illustration of a post-apocalyptic Earth (as far as I'm concerned of course).

Since I'm rating this movie as a whole and not the main actor, I'll leave out my thoughts on Mel.

This movie was one of the few cases of a sequal being better than the original. Not just better, massively better. Personal wars for oil in the desert, leaders that just talk and talk - brilliant and ahead of its time. George Miller is a talented director/producer. That'll do pig, that'll do. It also started an entire new post-apocalypse genre of films. Plus a heavy metal future meets the western!

Some flaws like dubbing, and the speeded up stunt scenes detract, so I'll give this a 9.5.
