DEFCON - Like WarGames on your PC!

Introversion Software, makers of such fine titles as Uplink and Darwinia, are releasing their next game today - DEFCON. Remember Global Thermonuclear War from WarGames - that game we all wanted to play when were were youngsters watching a nerdy Matthew Broderick save the world AND romance Ally Sheedy at the same time? The WOPR game? A nice game of chess, and the only way to win is not to play?

Introversion decided to make that game for us.

If you act quickly, you can still preorder a copy, either off Steam or in a direct download to your PC! If you're reading this too late, well, look for me playing this online this weekend - there's some nuking to be done!

I like that they offer a direct download rather than forcing users to install that blasted Steam software. (Wait - does Steam do their match hosting? Dang. That would kill a lot of my interest.) I saw a preview of this in Computer Games Monthly and I was intrigued. The play style seems similar to Nuclear War (the classic card game from Flying Buffalo). Have you actually tried it yet?

If their price for the direct download was equal to the Steam price, I'd jump at that. It's a few bucks more expensive, and I've already got Steam installed for other Valve games ( <3 HL ). I'm going to try to grab this sometime this weekend, if the servers will respond. :p
