Superior to #1 (one of the few- anyone can say)- raised the bar that even without Sofia in # 3- it had no chance.
10/10
Personally I liked the first Godfather better, but I can certainly ackonowledge that this is a Classic film itself as well. It was great to see the origin of the original Godfather, Vito Corleone, mixed with his sons Michaels rise to power, bringing The Family to even bigger heights (and lows, such as the killing of his own brother and the assassination attempt at his own house) then ever before. The darkness that was shown in Michael at the end of Godfather 1 was in full force in this film, making this Don one very scary and intimidating character. A great and truly iconic film, though to me I liked the first Godfather a bit better myself.
The Godfather Part 2 - 9.75 / 10

Unfortunately, been too long since I've seen the last few movies for me to rate them honestly. Even this one I haven't seen in a very long time, but this one at least made enough of an impression that I can give it an excellent rating. 9.75 of 10.

I am constantly amazed at how good this movie is, despite essentially being two different (both great) movies that have almost nothing to do with each other...and then you are confronted with the tragic fact that Michael Corleone has realized (far too late) that his story is not his father's story...
I rate it a 9.75/10 I'd like to give it the full-blown 10/10, but it takes a little too much work on the audience's part to understand the misery for my taste. It's also loses points for reducing most of the characters from the first film into carictures (DeNiro and Pacino saved their respective films) and introducing other characters that were nothing more than window dressing: Neri, Frankie Pentangeles, etc.
Its a great film, and I'm curious if anyone has actually seen the II before seeing the I, and what their impressions are.
DeNiro is god. 10/10

I think I'm one of the few who disagrees with the commonly cited "Godfather II is a case of a sequel being better than the original". Don't get me wrong, "Godfather II" is a great film, but I can watch the first over and over without getting tired of it while II is more of a "once in awhile, I'll rewatch it" film - I just really felt the story of the first movie was better and showed the classic 'descent into darkness' tragedy (whereas II focuses more on what happens after you've descended).
I do greatly enjoy the flashbacks showing the life of young Vito and while it's interesting watching what Michael does in the "present" it's not interesting enough to keep me from wishing they'd hurry up and get back to more young Vito scenes.
Score: 8.5
I'm totally with Senator Rokk Krin...The second was great, but the first one is a much more complete story. There are more characters, more have arcs, and there is much more actually happening!

I did like the first one better as well, though they are all classics.

I really enjoyed Michael Corleone's story, but young Vito, not so much.

My feeling exactly. I've always felt the second one was too long and lacked rythm from time to time, making it more difficult to watch it regularly. Anyway it's still a classic, and way better than the third one.
8/10.
