Hi all,
Some of you may know me others of you may not. That's not the important thing right now. Right now, I want to try and give light to some of the more...obscure characters that I've read and grown to love.
Now that ReZourceMan has said to tone it down on the threads. I'll try and place all related clix here as I come up with them.
In any case, I want to start with a villain that's pretty near and dear to my heart. I first came across Maelstrom in an Avengers comic. Actually it was my first Avengers comic ever, Vol 1. 250. The cover had a giant fist holding and basically crushing various avengers, including some big guns, Hercules, Wonder Man and others. It was like he saw a bunch of toys, grabbed them up and used them to punch a hole up through the ground. At the time, I've read a few different comics with these same characters in it and the cover absolutely floored me. In the pages, I found out more about what actually happened here and brought it to this stage. Came to find out Maelstrom was something called Inhuman/Deviant hybrid. Which went completely over my head at the time, but being the curious cat I am, I had to find out more. IIRC, It ended with the Avengers, specifically Scarlet Witch, made his conversion machine too efficient, either that or the destroyed the regulator for it, and made good ol' Maelstrom hyper inflate and expand throughout the universe. Which as a kid freaked me out because that would mean that he was all over us and everywhere. I was a very imaginative kid so sue me.
My next experience with the kinetic controller was when he absolutely owned one of my favorite heroes at the time, Quasar. Now at this time, I had quite a bit more knowledge as to how the Marvel universe was laid out. And how different beings related powerwise. I also forgot about this guy in the years he was gone. But this time, he made sure I'd never forget him. After Quasar, Makkari and Moondragon ownage, he proceeded to steal Eon's Cosmic Awareness. Forcing a then disincorporated Quasar to kill his benefactor. Then and here's the kicker, he actually stood up to Infinity Gauntlet Thanos and didn't get killed. (It was shown later in an alternate universe that Maelstrom at the time would have been able to actually battle it out with the omnipotent Titan) He also proceeded to collapse the universe and almost set himself up as supreme being. Now obviously he failed, but the way he actually went about it was so stylish, so conniving that he catapulted up to one of my favorite villains.
He came back later when his minions attempted to resurrect him, but he refused because he would have had to kill his newly discovered son. Then later still when he ended up against the GLA (before GLX or GLC) and was then tricked into committing suicide.
But considering he started off as a superb geneticist and mastered the art of cloning, it's only a matter of time before we see him back.
Prior to all of these appearances, he was busy smacking around Thing and the Inhumans (including Black Bolt) all the while taking care of his ailing father.
So without further ado, I present to you
Maelstrom

I found it very difficult to convert this guy into clix, the main reason is, not only does hitting him make him stronger, he can easily shoot of the excess energy off. When attacked he can drain you of your energy, just like he did to Thing. Thing absolutely tried to wail on "String Bean" with a punch that knocked Hulk out of the room and off his feet, but Maelstrom didn't move an inch and made Thing weaker with his retalitory strike. Black bolt's electron manipulation power couldn't hurt him at all and when he made contact, he drained him just the same. So instead of the ubiquitous Poison for this, I wanted to signify that by the rare combo of Steal Energy and EW.
Also simulating his growth when taking damage was a bit difficult because unlike normal Giants he starts small and gets larger as he takes damage. The key here was to give him Earthbound and a lot of it. It makes it so that he can be carried, and that he could be TK and a lot of other neat tricks one could pull with him.
He starts out very unassuming. You don't know what you're facing unless you've done so before, so I wanted to start with a very normalish click. Thankfully Seth has set the standard for normal.
MasterMind because his minions fear him and will do whatever he says including jump in the line of fire. Potentially he's very hard to KO, as it should be. Regen because he can let off energy to get better.
He's also not the type to run to a medic, when he's about to lose, he's so prideful that he actually commanded Oblivion's agent DeathUrge to kill him. So he needs high defense throughout to prevent tempting anyone to use a medic with him.
Overall he's a very self contained clix, but with his minions and agents, he'll be quite beastly.
More to come.
