Next Film: ??????
As with all the Evil Dead movies this movie gets an 11 in my voting book. What's not to like in this movie??

Personally I by far liked the second one (the remake) the best. This one was too dopey, too silly for me personally (and Im a HUGE Bruce Campbell fan). After the ending of the second one, personally I expected something better. Wont rate it here and now, as Im a bit busy getting ready for work and all, but this was definately not a perfect film, or even close, IMHO.

Out of curiosity why do you consider "Evil Dead 2" a remake? It makes reference to the events of the first film and everything...I admit to being a bit confused here. :)
I actually thought it was meant to be a slightly higher budgets remake of the first one, the story is pretty much the same, and I believe Bruce Campbell stars in both 1 and 2 (though in 2 has no knowledge of anything in 1, which leads me to believe Evil Dead 2 is a remake of ED1) Is this not so?

I actually thought he makes reference in #2 to the events of #1...that's why I always felt it was a sequel (well, that and the whole #2 thing :) ). In fact, I might be wrong - it's been awhile since I've seen 'em (should go watch them when I get home tonight) - but don't we even get a flashback to the first "Evil Dead" movie?

It's Army of Darkness, it gets a 10. Period. It delivers everything it should, it has Bruce Campbell, it has awesome lines, it has deadites, it has Necronomicans, it has boomsticks, and it has chainsaw hands. It's excellent.
Hmmmm, two ratings of Perfect 10s already, sheesh Bruce / Ash must have a bigger fanbase in HCR than even I thought. :)
Seriously though, Im a big Bruce Campbell fan as well, and have seen most everything I know that hes done, but this film doesn’t rate nearly so highly with me (heck its not even my favourite Evil Dead flick) Army of Darkness was something I was actually looking forward to ever since the conclusion of ED2 (my favourite of the series), and while it was a fun little horror/comedy/action picture, it wasn’t anything overly special really. The horror aspects were all but gone, making this a child friendly flick (a huge difference from the previous 2 films) with a bit too much on the humor, and a bit too dopey on the jokes. The action was nice, but far from awe inspiring really. Ash (Bruce Campbell) was by far the best thing in this entire film, and the only reason I enjoyed it to the point that I did (which in the end was cute, but so so).
A nice fun little fantasy film, but after what we got from the first two EDs horror-wise, a bit of a letdown (in just about every conceivable way) in my book.
Army Of Darkness – 7 / 10 (and this is in large part to me being a big fan of Bruce Campbell, not to mention a cameo by Bridget Fonda :) )

You have it right. The Commentary Track and the booklet inside the special edition of Evil Dead 2 by Bruce Campbell explains that Sam Raimi got a big budget for a remake and that's what he did.
If you watch Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2 back to back you can see the remake.

Word up!
First and foremost: Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn is a remake.
Second: This is the only movie in my life that made me laugh for almost all of it. The one-liners. The goofiness. The ninja zombies in the pit???? The belt buckle that latches itself to the chain in the well???
HELLO?????????
10 of 10.
Anything else would be...uncivilized.

I'll be darn. I really thought "Dead by Dawn" was supposed to be a sequel. Sad part is that the first time I watched 1 and 2 it was back-to-back and I still didn't pick up on it (which may be part of why my memory on them is screwy - combining parts of each movie and all). Anyway, my foolish mistake and my apologies.
As for "Army of Darkness", as much as I enjoy Bruce Campbell and how he's found his niche as King of the B-Movies and all the camp humour that goes along with most of those films that doesn't always make for a perfect movie (or tv series - I hate to say it, but I can't watch much of "Jack of All Trades" in one sitting). AoD is a fun blend of horrour - though a drastic departure from the earlier films (another reason I was confused: Raimi has often said 1 was a "dark suspensful horrour film", 2 was meant to poke at the "splatterfest" horrour films of its' time and AoD was just meant to be campy fun...giving me the feeling that he looks at them as 3 separate films) - and comedy but definitely tends more towards the comedy. Some of the comedy is great but when it bombs, it bombs pretty badly.
I enjoy the movie but I just don't consider it a masterpiece of the cinema or even "groundbreaking".
Score: 8/10
Hey, this is a case of synchronicity I guess... A friend of my bro' just lent me this movie last week. Haven't seen it for a few ears, still as good and fun as I remembered. However, like Rokk_Krinn said, certainly not a masterpiece or groundbreaking, but still really funny to watch.

It's a cool film to be sure, but my no means my favorite "hokey" movie. It has parts that you cant help but laugh at....
"Give me some sugar, baby!"
I fell out of my seat.
I prefer Evil Dead 2 over Army of Darkness both for laughs and movie quality.
Its no Ricky-Oh!, I tell you that!
7/10 is the highest I can give it.

Firstly, I'd like to point out that Evil Dead 2 is not a remake. It's a sequel, period. In each movie after Evil Dead they re-capped what happened previously, but they had to re-shoot it vs using original footage because each movie is owned by a different studio (same reason America won't see a box set) so they didn't have rights to the footage.
Anyway, again, great movie. My least favorite of the trilogy, but still a fantastic addition. I like the steady progress from horror to comedy with Evil Dead to Army of Darkness. Infinitely watchable due to the flurry of one liners and action. Turns Ash fully into the bad-### he's known as. It doesn't quite have the magic of Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2, but it's still a fun watch.
8.5/10
It's not Evil Dead 2, but it is Army of Darkness!
9/10.
I loved Evil Dead 2 because it was the right mix of scary and comedy. Right as in the fact that I felt there was a kind of "serious" scary thing going on but with this black humour on top. I was so much looking forward to Army of Darkness and was quite disappointed at how it was pretty much a straight comedy with no real menacing horror lurking around the corner. I think about what might have been done different, and I wonder what the film would have been like if the undead army didn't actually talk at all but instead were, you know, scary undead. Anyway, it's still a great movie to watch and I don't want to knock it too much. I'll give it 8/10.

9/10 I absolutely love this movie, but I never really liked the change in tone from Evil Dead 2, which was perfect. Never the less, this movie is comedic genius in its own right, and Bruce Campbell's best performance.

9/10. "Good... Bad... I'm the one with the gun!"
Hail to the King, baby!
This movie makes me laugh each and every time - and I have lost track of how many times I've seen it. Entirely much too quotable! :)
