Wow- Guess you have to get up early in the morn to be one of the first ...lol.
Empire Strikes Back builds and surpasses Star Wars (now called SW New Beginning)in every aspect. While SW introduced us to a host of characters, ESB allowed both characterization and plot development to soar. This movie has been the catalyst of every sequel (and prequel) with its startling revelation at its climax. The ending of course leaves us pining to see the next film (while at the same time a solid stand on its own piece)
Rating Solid 9.75
I can only rate this film as an 11-year-old: It was great except for the kissing!
9/10!
Easily one of the greatest Sci Fi films ever made, in addition to being the one the best sequels in cinematic history. The Empire Strikes Back took all that we Loved about the original Star Wars, and continued onward and upward. Introducing new characters (which would, like those from the original SW, grow into iconic and legendary figures) such as Yoda, Boba Fett and even Lando and the Executor. From the Battle of Hoth to the asteroid field to the escape from Cloud City, this film had you from Second 1 and never let go. Too many classic scenes in this one to fully go into, though the one that stands out the most, the one that is truly an iconic scene, "No......I am your father" From that point all bets were off and everything we knew about SW was turned on its ear. Amazing story, Unreal special effects, Memorable lines and scenes, and one heck of a Sci Fi Classic. This is easily one of my Top 10 (probably Top 5 for me) favorite films of all time, so Im rating it here accordingly.
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back - 10 / 10

I would have to echo a lot of what's been said already; great character evolution, drama, new characters and locales...a stunning contribution to the annals of great films.
I saw this when I was 8 (!) and I was heartbroke that; Han was seemingly dead (!), Luke got his hand cut off and lost his dad's lightsaber (!), and Darth Vader was his daddy (!!!!!!!!!!!!). I remember insisting to my father that we couldn't leave the theater because it was obvious that the movie couldn't be over; the bad guys had won!
I think ESB was the very first movie I saw where that's how it ended. On top of that, the good guys didn't get a break for the whole frakkin' movie! It was a long couple of years until RotJ came out let me tell ya! ;)
Even now I can still watch this movie and enjoy it thoroughly, which is the true time-test of great films. 9.75/10.

A perfect diamond cut from the raw stone of the first flick.
10/10.
Possibly the best of the 6 SW films. 9.5/10

When I rated Star Wars, much as I loved it, I only gave it a 9.75 with the reasoning that Empire was better, so if I rated Star Wars a 10, what was I going to rate Empire? Well here we are rating Empire, and I'm giving it a 10, which I don't give out easily. It took everything that was good about the previous movie and improved on it. The characters developed deeper layers as Han and Leia explored their feelings for each other and Luke explored his Jedi-ness, all the while never letting up on the action. And of course there was...the Revelation "I am your father." that made everybody go "whoa!"

To me this is quintessential science fiction. In fact, along with Alien and possible the Thing, this is for my money the greatest science fiction film ever made...note, that it is an entirely different kind of movie than those are. It also just happens to be along with the Godfather part 2, the greatest sequel in history.
The original Star Wars was obviously a great film and overall more important given the standards it set in marketing, and Lucas really throwing his imagination onto the big screen like this...however, Empire is actually a better film. The way the film is shot and directed is simply superior to the first film, and it's cold ending gave me a harsh and likely well needed early look at reality as a child. All of my heroes basically lose. Luke loses his hand and possibly even his faith in the good side of the force, Leia loses the man she loves, Chewie loses his friend and Han Solo is basically dead as far as I was concerned when I first watched this. Lando was a lying bastard and Luke's father was an evil all-powerful cyborg overlord. And the bad guy's also had friggin' Bobo Fett...how the hell do you deal with that guy?
The ending was just short of hopeless and set up for the third film perfectly. I've seen Empire more than I have the first film...there is a standard of quality for fantasy films set very high by this film and it has only been matched by a small group of other great films...it will likely never be exceeded.
Rating: 10
Well here we are rating Empire, and I'm giving it a 10, which I don't give out easily.
:cheeky:
Irvin Kershner, Lawrence Kasdan, and George Lucas just stopped shaking.

"The Empire Strikes Back"?
My absolute top favorite Star Wars movie of all time. The best written, acted, and directed movie of any of them. LOVE this movie. I've always wished that Kershner could have directed "Return of the Jedi" as well; it would have been a far, far superior finale for the Original Trilogy.
I give it a 9.5 out of 10. It only misses the 10 mark I think because its darker, "unfinished" ending makes it a harder pill to swallow for non-Star Wars fanatics.
Possibly the best of the 6 SW films. 9.5/10
exactly right, even the rating.
How can all of you possibly give such high ratings to a movie without Ewoks?
<dives for heavy cover>
Just kidding
One of the true sci-fi classics. 10 out of 10.

Well, I'll rate it the way I said I would, it's just the best one of the series (and if you wonder why, just watch Clerks ;)). Don't have anything much to say.

I am not one to hand out tens neither willy nor nilly, but for the best film in the best trilogy ever made it is impossible not to.
10 out of 10
I have to give this a 10 out of 10. The best of the trilogy by far. ( Although I wouldn't call it the best trilogy ever, I give that honor to LotRs, but I do love SWs quite a bit ) One of my favorite movies of all time. Deserves nothing less than a perfect score.
Star Wars = 10/10. There's not a whole lot to say, other than Boba Fett is awesome.

Which one is this again? Is it the one with the snow planet?
*looks it up briefly*
Ok.
7.0/10 from me.
They're enjoyable enough, but I saw them as a (almost) teen. Prefer the Alien series as far as space based films go.

I loved this movie. One of the best movies I've ever seen. I have the original VHS version of Empire Strikes Back. 10/10
And I have it on laserdisc. One of the reasons why I'm glad that Pioneer hasn't completely given up on that format. I gave A New Hope a 9.5, which means that Empire obviously rates a 10.
not as good as jedi, but still works for me alot actually. gonna watch it right now.
9.25
My least favorite of the original 3. I am really not sure why? It was a great movie. The Rebel Alliance is in full retreat, Luke confronts Vader for the first time (and finds out he's his son !!!!!!) We get to meet Master Yoda. The Cloud City. So many great things about this movie, but I still find that I am not a huge fan of this one. I can't put my finger on it. Nonetheless, it's still a great movie, and as such it gets a 9.75/10 not perfect like ANH or RoTJ, but pretty close.
