Its easy, just give a Rating from 1 (Jaws 4:The Revenge) to 10 (Jaws), and thats it. Course I'd love to have you all give reasons as to why you feel it deserves this Overall Rating, and more than encourage discussions with us all about them.

Blade brought comic movies back from the dead, but Spider-Man confirmed people's love in people running around in tights and beating people up.

8.5/10

stayed very true to the comics (story-wise), so a big thumbs up.

points deducted for the goblin suit though...

points given back for Kirsten Dunst, so a 8.5/10

Busted the doors right open for the comic genre on-screen.
9.75
It gets extra .25 for poking (good-natured) fun at superman. (points already included)

Yeah, Ive gotta say I loved this movie too. An amazing popcorn action picture, that had the emotion and the intelligence to go with all its action and effects (X3, take note) This is truly one of the best comic book movies ever, and one incredibly film overall. Loads of fun, and something that can be watched time and time. Great job Raimi, heres hoping SM3 is as great a film as 1 and 2 were.

Spider-Man - 9.25 / 10

After one of the longest waits in history, this movie was finally made to huge hype and fanfare. Then, it lived up to every single bit of it.

Who doesnt love Dafoe talking to himself in the mirror????

My rating 10/10

This is a perfect example of a comic movie done right. The action scenes are great, and it's true to its sources. The best thing about it is that the parts with Peter Parker aren't just filler to pad out the action sequences. Just like what made the original comic so popular back in the 60s, Peter's problems were at least as compelling as Spider-Man's. The one negative, the_itsy_bit called it, couldn't they do something better with the Green Goblin suit. I hate that "weird Power Rangers mask" to quote Weird Al. But it's a fairly minor point against it. I'm still giving it a good solid 9.

Everything a comic film should be. Great acting, plot, action. I can watch this movie a hundred times and still enjoy it.

Like Senator Lensnart, I've found that this is not a movie that holds up well under repeated viewings...however it is a fun movie with some really good acting. It doesn't have many of the faults common to 'comic book' movies (i.e. special effects are tolerable, performances aren't phoned in) and does a great job distilling the Peter Parker/Spiderman story.

A solid 9.0 (of 10) from me.

Very good movie, lots of action, lots of Spider-Man, and very true to the comics.

I would give it a 10/10, but that awful Green Goblin costume brings it down to an 8/10.

I give 9.5

AMAZING movie, and probably the best of the new generation of superhero movies. The overall awesomeness ALMOST made me forget about the Goblin's costume(although the acting was brilliant!), and the strange stiffness of the non-CG fight scenes.

It was an average movie for me. I probably wouldn't watch it again. 6.5/10

I liked Spider-man and Spider-man II and will pay to see Spider-Man III but there are two negative things I will always remember when I recall those movies:

1) the horrrible Green Goblin costume/headpiece

2) the ridiculous scene where the webs stop the train

DTM

Actually, the part where Spider-Man gives it 200%, to the point of screaming in pain and passing out afterwards, to stop the train heading for its doom, was one of my favorite scenes in SM2. :)

I loved it too, showed the real superhero nature that he has.

Hated the "Pass the Jesus" game they played afterwards though. Was that really necessary?

Thirding general support for the scene.
Seconding finding the crowd surfing cheesy.
Adding my personal bugbear of yet another scene without a mask on.

Since the whole Spider-man idea is preposterous it seems ridiculous to point out the obvious flaw that physics laws are clearly violated by the notion that a superbeing roughly ten times as strong as a regular human using unbelievably strong webbing could stop a train weighing hundreds or thousands of tons traveling in excess of 50 miles an hour in a brief distance. If you rewatch the whole scene again (I just did) it looks worse every time. That isn't true for much of the movie. There are many action/movement scenes in the movie that do not seem to be less believable after reviewing the scene.

There are certain events in comics and on TV or at the movies where the writer is trying to show high levels of skill, strength, motivation etc. of a character and the display works in reverse and is detrimental to the character. Two good examples that immediately come to mind is a JLA a couple of years ago in which Kyle Raynor lassoes and moves the moon with the power ring. Keep in mind this is pre-Ion and I am a huge GL fan. I know that moving the moon is no more ridiculous than sawing a car in half with the ring but the scale of moving the moon is too much. It wrecks the scene instead of establishing a new level of power for the character.

Another example for me is when the Emperor in Star Wars destroys the Senate while fighting Yoda. If you were capable of that kind of destruction,(even if you were fighting the very skilled Yoda) you could destroy Yoda completely in numerous ways. What I'm saying is that the train saving scene could have been written in a more believable way and accomplished more.

blah...a superbeing roughly ten times as strong as a regular human...etc
Without wanting to bog this down too much in debate of specifics,
Spider-Man is currently a 15-20 tonner, and the Film Spider-Man
has displayed himself to be much more durable than comic Spidey.
Being able to press 20 tons is a good deal greater than 10 x regular humans.

I was just about to say the same exact thing NY. And keep in mind its not uncommon at all for such heros to give it THEIR ALL in matters of dire importance, bringing themselves to the breaking point and Beyond, to do what must be done. SMs ordeal with that trains was exactly that type of scene, and I personally loved it, as it showed us that SpiderMan wasnt just amazingly strong physically, but mentally as well.

Spiderman is definetly the best mainstream comic book movie made yet (can the third out do the first, I hope so) I'll give the movie a 9.5 rating.

I remember the first time I saw it in theatres, I wasn't really that hyped for it, figured it would be a typical superhero movie that is ok but still blah (X-Men) and left the theatre feeling the same entusiasm for a fictional hero that I had as a kid reading comics, went back to see it a few more times after that. Great Movie, can't wait for the third

At first, didn't like the movie for devolving from the comics, but after viewing it again, I really love this movie for being a slightly more original plot. however, it rejects the ingenuity that characterizes Peter Parker/Spider-man which is necessary to establish his role as a hero.

9.1 out of ten

Eh, after watching it again, there's a lot of levels built on it. Personally, I thik it is the best of the three. I'm rechanging my vote.

10/10 The only thing wrong with this movie is the Goblin costume but the rest of the movie is so good it doesn't matter.

I love this movie and knew I would the day I read on the internet that Sam Raimi was directing it. The man is genius.

Nice, but why is Spidey fighting a Power Ranger?

Basically, I'm just going to copy/paste what I said about Spider-Man 2...

The story is a good adaptation of the early Spider-Man comics; the plot is basic, but serves the characters well, who are pretty accurate regarding their comics counterparts. Though it's pretty naive, the first adventures of Spidey (in comics) were too, so it's not so much of a problem.

The acting is good too: Tobey Maguire makes a great Spidey, Kirsten Dunst is a decent M.J. (more than decent in fact, too bad she's not that beautiful...), Willem Dafoe makes a great Green Goblin, J.K. Simmons as J.J.J. is very funny and Rosemary Harris is a great Aunt May; actually, in this one, even James Franco is pretty good, though I didn't like him in the second one; go figure...

Music is decent, but that's it.

Special effects are really good, and well employed. They make the movie amazing and spectacular, I don't have much more to ask.

Cinematography is correct.

Good adaptation, which gets the same rating as the sequel, minus 0.5 for Goblin's suit.

8/10.

I hated the Green Goblin when he was in the suit. William Defoe played Osbourne perfectly, however.

Action was good, storytelling was quick but thought-out, and both Peter Parker and Spider-Man were represented well.

8/10
