Well, I'll freely admit this is an uphill battle for me to judge fairly - I don't like Blade and I don't enjoy Wesley Snipes - but I'll give it a shot.
This movie did help break the box office hoodoo jinx that Marvel had and for that I'll give it credit. Now, it's true that pretty much the majority of viewers had no idea it was a comic-book related movie and it wasn't advertised as such, but it still was what Marvel needed to gain some big screen legitimacy.
Unfortunately, I, personally, have never been able to understand why it was such a hueg hit. The special effects were decent for the most part but the acting was sub-par - and has been mocked more than once - and the storyline was pretty trite (heck, I remember the big fuss over how the writers had "paid homage" just a bit too much to the White Wolf Vampire games...though I think both sides were being silly in that arguement in the same way so many of the "So-and-so is a Marvel/DC clone"-arguements are just goofy). Kris Kristofferson, for the record, did a decent job of acting though his part was pretty, well, trite. That seems to be the word that sticks in my mind about this movie: trite. Been there, seen it done better and didn't feel this was worth more than a one-time rental.

i own it. i loved it. i enjoyed its sequels (yes I enjoyed trinity)

Personally, I thought Blade was a great film. Sure not a Marvel classic in the SpiderMan or X-Men level, but a very cool, very enjoyable film with alot going for it nonetheless.
Blade reminded me of a Vampiric Punisher, a creature feared by the vampire underworld, most of which would run in terror at the mere sight of Blade. A being with one job and one job only, Kill Vampires, and he was an Expert at doing so.
The acting was fine, nothing Oscar worthy (and really, 99.99% of all action movies arent) but hardly disappointing either. Cool story, got me into it from the get go, and held onto me. Fight scenes were well done, the vampires deaths and Blades mastery with his weapons was handled excellently.
Overall, Blade was a very enjoyable supernatural action picture, that had story as well as fighting, and one of the better Marvel motion pictures Ive seen (unfortunately the series went downhill a bit with 2, and 3 wasnt anything special at all)

It's a great action movie, Blade is too cool for school and the scene in the disco...just wow.
What always makes me scratch my head, though, is that suppsedly the vampires studied the documents about how to resurrect La Magra for centuries.
Then Whistler comes along, looks at a fragment of these documents for a second and knows exactly what's going on.

Wesley was just too cool. The sunglasses thing at the end was just the icing on the cake.

too much style and not much substance...... 6/10 and that's only because he killed vampires. :rolleyes:

It's a great action movie, Blade is too cool for school and the scene in the disco...just wow.
Yeah, the song that's playing (an extremely remixed version of New Order's "Confusion" in case anyone's wondering) became an instant goth club hit around here. I thought it was a fun movie. It ripped off just enough White Wolf mythology to be interesting and stayed close enough to its action roots to fill theatre seats. Not exactly a classic, but I certainly don't regret picking it up on DVD. A solid 7.5 from me.
A pretty good movie, not the greatest ever, but sure it was entertaining. Great music by Crystal Method (ahh, that Blood Bath Dance...). And for once I found Wesley Snipes was quite good, so I'll give it a :

P.S.: This is kinda off-topic, but everytime I suggest people should see the movie "The Blade" (by Tsui Hark), people confuse it with "Blade" (the movie we're currently talking about). Did you DTM see this one, and would it be possible to rate it? (well, only if a significant amount of people here saw it of course).

I'll give it an 7/10. Maybe the acting wasn't that great, but the action was pretty good. Overall it was a fun movie, which is really the point.
I was going to give it an 8, but I need to give Blade 2 at least 2 points over the original, and I know Blade 2 doesn't deserve 10.

Well, if you like Hong Kong action movies, this one is, as far as I'm concerned of course, the ultimate one. It's the classic one-armed swordsman legend revisited in a chaotic way if I may say so...

8/10 Its great for what it is, and I love Stephen Dorf's over the top performance even if the ending kiiiiiiiiiiiiinda blows goats.
