I'm very curious about the Wii and first person shooters. I have no skill with a regular controller, but the Wii controller is intriguing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. :)

I think a shooter with the pointer would be awesome. Especially without a lock-on feature.

From what I've seen on TV commercials and trailers it works AWESOME.
And if/when I get a Wii I'll let you know how it works. (See my sig) ;)

To me, the controller is the allure of the system. I can hardly wait to get a Wii....and I too will give a full report.
The closest I've gotten is aiming the bow in Zelda and that works really well. I'm not sure what it would be like in a proper FPS, but at least aiming from a stationary position seems to work really well.

To me this is the strong suit of the new controller. The slashing sword action, not so much.

What I am interested in is this:
What if they made a rifle-shaped controller that you can fit your Wii controllers into? Similar to the steering wheel that is already out for racing games, but this would be a gun.
I think it would be cool...

They already do. It is for a new version of Duck Hunt. The Wiimote goes into the barrel.

To me this is the strong suit of the new controller. The slashing sword action, not so much.
As far as Zelda is concerned it's mostly because you can swing it randomly for the same effect and there are loads of enemies to cut up. Maybe with a more precise type of movement where the motion of the sword mimics the remote would be more fun. I haven't played Red Steel, but I think that at least tries to do that. I'd put more money on No More Heroes doing a better job of it. If that game can't then...well, 'screwed' is probably the best way of describing its odds at not sucking.
