We are still looking at expanding the magazine so we need writers to join the team. Or if you have a free moment and you know your heroclix any help is appreciated. ALSO, we are looking to expand and I NEED writers who know Star Wars, D&D Minis, Mechwarrior, Horrorclix, Battlestar, Pirates, Dreamblade, VS, and any other games you think you might like to write about. We are looking to give those bigger magazines some REAL competition.
If you are interested in adding or doing something for the magazine please email me at

I have to say that I was a little disappointed to see the "Only Magazine Dedicated to HeroClix" has moved to a general gaming magazine. I had to search through many non HeroClix articles to find a HeroClix One.
I'll still keep getting it, but I liked the idea of HeroClix Only.

How about "Clix" only? I'm just pleased as punch my article made the cut. [I'm Will by the way]
I understand there will be some displeasure, but to be a purely Heroclix magazine would not have benefited us as a magazine. I don't think we could properly succeed by being heroclix pure. Still, we have 80% heroclix articles so it is not that bad. Heck Scrye and inquest barely cover one at times.
Hey folks. The Le here. I did the imaging and layout for Critical Hit (ie I made it pretty). I hope you enjoy this issue as much as we all liked putting it together.
As for Critical Hit, note that it is still the only magazine dedicated to HeroClix. While there are indeed non-HeroClix articles included in the magazine this issue, the mantra is still true -- this is still the only magazine dedicated to HeroClix, which is always the main focus.
You will not find any other magazine out there with as many articles dedicated to HeroClix, nor will you find any other magazine giving this much love to HeroClix. We all love it, and it shows.
So sit back, and enjoy!

I'll second the clix only notion, a seperate magazine perhaps for others, but I liked having a clix mag. Good issue, not one of my favorites, but I hail from the 90's era of X-Men and Spider-man stuff, and still think the Scarlet Spider the Age of Apocalypse and the Onslaught saga were cool. (A lot of people from before the 90's seem to have HATED the stuff.) ~Shrug~
Haven't read the whole thing yet though, so maybe I'll drop back with further comments once I've read it more thoroughly.
Edit: Take note that by clix only, I mean Hero and Horror, not just heroclix.
Big hits for me:
Anatomy of an Action
Clayface Army
The Bat-villains article
Pete Newman tribute (although I'm guessing he probably would have preferred the 'anatomy of an action' as the rear cover piece!)
Big Misses are all SHIELD related:
1) The David Hasselhoff "Nick Fury Agent of SHIELD" is FUN, and feels like a comic book movie!
2) That 300-point SHIELD force is terrible! My recommendations: replace Black Widow with Sam Wilson, shuffle up the grunts and get Trick Shot on there! My recommendation (trying to keep the non-generics) is
U Nick Fury
LE Sam Wilson
R Psylocke
R Hawkeye (w/ Trick Shot)
2x Vet (flying) SHIELD agents
Thats a 6-figure (evenly split between fliers/non-fliers) team with 21 points left over.
My personal preference is to leave off BOTH Hawkeye (replace with a Sinister Sniper) and Black Widow in order to field more pieces too cover my Trick-Shotter, but YMMV.
Thanks for the issue!
Well I am glad people liked it, I do know there were some things people won't like. As long as it made you think (which it seems to have done) it was a success.
The next issue will be Marvel Knights themed. If anyone is interested in writing I have much room.

Adam, you might want to look up a little rule called The Rule of 3 (Ro3).
In your Army article you mention that your SWAT Specialist does 6 clicks (1+ RCE + 3 SWAT)
Ro3 would cap you at 4 damage.
Otherwise a good article.

Annnd.... minor quibble, but there's a factual error in the other Horrorclix article about how the Dire Werewolf's Cabal power works. Oh well.

Rock, as always its great. I would love to see more creative articles on customs, scenarios, and other stuff. Although the price guide is helpful, it would be great if we could get an article on "IF YOU HAVE THIS PIECE TRADE IT!" or something to guide us on HCRealms and WK forum trading. That way, we dont have to scour eBay for the good deal.

Thanks, bro. I wondered about that because of the whole "damage dealt" thing. I still wasn't sure if "damage dealt" was a stat that was subject to the RO3. It should be noted that when I used that team, it was before any bigger clarifications about "dealt" damage were solidified. Back in the days of Universe and Ultimates, that was still legal across the board as long as you had actions. :nervous:
Oh, and Tidge, I was going for a large, diverse team from the Ultimates line that people could use for some more-figures-than-actions fun to get used to an "army" strategy. Of course there are better ways to put it together, this was just one possibility.
Sweet issue. Thanks again for everyone who helps write this.

Damage Dealt is not subject to the rule of three, as it is not a combat value. SHIELD adds to the damage value, not damage dealt.

I'm sorry, but my interest dropped off when I hit the first Horrorclix article. I did manage to read A Call To Arms (mostly) and was glad to see an article along those lines, but I'd really prefer if this had stayed a magazine dedicated to HeroClix. What are the unsubscribe procedures?
1. wholly committed to something, as to an ideal, political cause, or personal goal: a dedicated artist.
2. set apart or reserved for a specific use or purpose: We don't need a computer but a dedicated word processor.

For the magazine to survive we needed to expand some. I want more readers than what we have. I personally put 80 hours into the magazine alone. I am sorry you were not happy. If we pleased everyone all the time I would be happy, yet it can't always be done. If you want to unsubscribe to a FREE magazine no problem. Send me your email. I personally thought the magazine looked great and the other articles were informative.

What did you do to this FREE magazine? How could you change the way the FREE magazine was? Why did you destroy a FREE magazine dedicated to Heroclix? Where do you get off making changes to a FREE magazine that no one has to receive? When did you decide how to sabotage this FREE magazine? Do you have a clue on what you are doing to this FREE magazine? Have you any idea how hard it is to scroll past the articles I don’t wish to read? I would like to have all these questions about this FREE magazine answered promptly and without anybody contradicting me.
Sarcasm aside. Please don’t answer any of the above questions.
As always the articles are very informative. It’s nice to see a female perspective. It doesn’t matter to me who I play. I mean come on, in some states you have to pay extra to get beat by a woman.
Thanks to everyone evolved for this great FREE magazine. I’m honored to be on the FREE magazine mailing list.
Sorry but one more sarcastic question. Did I capitalize FREE enough?

Even Protoculture Addicts magazine has articles not related to Robotech.

Though I do understand everyones angst on this let me say I appreciate your tolerance with the change. If you do wish to end your subscription please send an email that says please unsubscribe me from Critical Hit. Hey... that was MY article! I'm killing readership.
And besides that, I mean, it's called Critical Hit. It coudl arguably be a magazine dedicated to all games that feature the ability to, uh, hit critically. There are critical hits in MW, right?
So what shoudl me next article be? Fond rememberances of Mage Knight [just to cheese off the purists some more]?

Actually, that sounds really fascinating! In it's heyday there were plenty of Mage Knight players. A salute to those players would be kinda cool I think. Talk to Rock about it if you are so inclined.

Did you get any of the Mage Knight figures from the Apocolypse video game release? These guys:

Maybe you should do a write up on them?
I got the set and the Huntress What's-her-name as well, but I have yet to play them. Some suggestions on what Relics or Items to use on them would be fun.

Do I like the change. No. I understand the basis for the change to a small extent. I dont not see why the readership had to expand for the magainze to survive. There have been advertisements in the magazine for a while. I assumned to some extent they were be compensated by wizkids. I had an idea for an article but now knowing that the magazine is closely related to wizkids that idea is dead.

If there had been a massive reduction in the amount of heroclix articles in order to add articles pertaining to other games then I would understand the negative responses to the new Critical Hit, but I didn't see that, I saw some good heroclix articles as well as some articles dealing with other games. If it's an article you have no interest in, skip it. Why would you want to unsubscribe to it when it still has plenty of quality heroclix articles? Just because it Also has articles about other stuff? Okay... Thanks to all the contributors for their work!

I'm glad folks are talking about the Mag! Whether you liked the other articles or not, there was plenty of good Clix related material in there.
Next month will feature more of the same great Clix plus other coverage and I know I will be looking forward to seeing what my fellow Critical Hitters contribute to the publication.
And keep talking about what you see in the mag! If you've got questions or comments on the articles I'm sure if you posted them here the writer would be able to answer questions and read the responses.
Special present sent out to everyone, though 500 emails to go.

Hey... that was MY article! I'm killing readership.
;) You aren't killing readership... I just don't have any interest in HorrorClix. I've tried (although admittedly not very hard), but it just isn't my genre.
And besides that, I mean, it's called Critical Hit. It coudl arguably be a magazine dedicated to all games that feature the ability to, uh, hit critically. There are critical hits in MW, right?
Maybe if you guys start including articles for GURPS I might start reading again. However, it's a magazine "dedicated to HeroClix", so that's what I was looking for.
Really, I'm not trying to piss on what you guys have done. Everyone has put a lot of work into this and all the previous issues as well. I may check out the occasional issue that will be forthcoming, but I'll definitely be picking past all the non-HeroClix articles.
It's like this: Just because the ice cream is free doesn't mean I can't say I don't like the flavor. You guys had some great chocolate ice cream. I loved your chocolate ice cream. But now you've put cherries in it and I'm just not digging on the cherries. So, if I'm in the mood for some of your chocolate ice cream, I'll know where to find it, but I'll just be aware that I need to pick the cherries out of it to really enjoy it.
Keep making your ice cream, guys, you make it well.
I added the feats and victims for download. If you are not receiving these by email let me know.
As one of the writers who have been here since the beginning, I have to say that I am quite disheartened by the feedback that we are getting from this issue. At the venue where I frequent, the players there play MULTIPLE games. I honestly don't know how they afford it as I can only really afford to play one game, but some of these guys and girls play 5-6 different games! Dreamblade, Heroclix, Horrorclix, Pirates, Magic, D & D, and I could probably go on. I realize that not everyone (myself included) play that many games, but we are expanding the magazine in this fashion because of players like this.
I very much like the Chocolate Ice Cream and Cherries analogy. It made a very good point. However, I have an extensive background in customer service and Public Relations, and there is one thing that we as the writers/creators of this magazine and you as the readers have to realize. We can't please everyone. Thank you very much to those of you who have consistently given us praise during our evolution as a magazine. Your encouraging words serve as fuel to us to produce a bigger and better magazine month after month. There is a place for those of you who have greivances as well. Without feedback, whether it is positive or negative, a venture such as this would have nothing to build with or grow from.
With that all being said, I would like to thank the writing staff that I have had the pleasure of working with. Can't wait until next issue. Thank you to all of our supporters, and another thank you to those of you who speak your mind and give us something to think about.

Another good issue there. I'm really not very interested in articles about card-games and dreamblade, but seeing as they don't replace clix articles, I'll just skip reading them.

Heya. The Le here, imaging/layout artist for Critical Hit. I find that idea fascinating. I actually run a PDF publishing company (www.TheLeGames.com), that specializes in Dungeons & Dragons d20 material.
I think a GURPS and/or RIFTS article would be kinda cool, but that may be beyond the scope of the magazine. Maybe in the future though, so who knows. As it is now, the magazine will continue to focus on HeroClix with a mix of other tabletop games mixed on.
As for the ice-cream analogy, I was not a big fan of it. That suggests that everything is messy and hard to get through. I think of it more like a website with links to the left. You can easily peruse the beginning of each article at lightning speed with PDF BOOKMARKS, which I provide with every issue. Each bookmark is keyed-in to the article titles, making browsing and "surfing" the magazine all that much easier!
Thanks for all the comments so far (from everyone)!

I'm sorry, man. That was more tongue-in-cheek than anything else (although I didn't include a smiley); GURPS also has "Critical Hit" rules.

Okay, I have to admit I didn't notice the bookmarks/tabs. That would make it easier to navigate through. I may give it a try again later, either with this issue or the next. My experience this time, though, was a straight read-through. Hitting that first non-HeroClix article derailed me, for whatever reason.
Finally, I'd like to apologize to Thanosworld. I gave him negative rep for a post he made in this thread. After that, I made a public post which was a little better thought out. It would have been better for me to take a step back and then just post what I did eventually post than to take a private dig at him. I'm sorry.

Thank you Pseudosoldier for the apology. Of course it’s accepted. I had no idea why I got it. I didn’t mean it to look like I was singling you out. If that was the case I apologize also. I was trying to be funny and lighten all the criticism for the people that worked very hard making this magazine. I guess in a way I wanted them to know I had there back also. Looks like I missed the mark.
As I’m sure you notice. I didn’t give negative reputation in return.
