View Full Version : Who's going to Cancon?

I'm considering it.
It would involve finding a method of transport to get to Canberra on Friday morning, and then home on Saturday night (I have to work Sunday). Getting back shouldn't be a drama, my Canberra friends tell me that there are plenty of buses in the evening, but not so many that go from Sydney to Canberra and arrive by 9 or 10am.
Fortunately accommodation shouldn't be a problem - I can have dinner with my sister on Saturday night and probably crash at her house.
What tournaments are running? The Cancon website seems to be wrong...

I have no funds aside but have the time and a car... could easily do the Friday/Sat thing for the fun of it.

How much does it cost you to drive to Canberra? I'm sure I could cover your fuel expenses.
In terms of playing tournaments, the CanCon website has this to say:Free entry to the hall. To play in tournaments, you must purchase a “card” card that allows you to play in as many tournaments as you want. “Card” cards are $5 per day or $10 for the entire weekend, and most tournaments have free entry. The Friday tournament is listed as free. I suspect the specific details are incorrect - website says 400 points but people who have been to Burwood recently are quoting 500 points, restricted.
The Saturday tournament is sealed and the cost is listed as $10.
Both of them apparently start at 11am, which is much more humane than the 9am starts on VTES tournaments. ;)
EDIT: It's looking like I can only commit to the Friday, I have an out-of-town friend who is flying into Sydney on Saturday for a single day. If you were interested in a single day trip we could certainly organise that - get there in time for the 11am constructed tournament, eat dinner in Canberra, and drive back Saturday night. What do you think? :)
BTW I have those Supernova figures for you if you still need them!

Apparently I should have checked the Croftminster forums (http://forums.croftminster.com.au/showthread.php?t=7843) first. Here are the clix tournaments for CanCon:
HeroClix: (organized by Neil and Coz Moreton)
Friday: Time 11am. Standard Constructed Tournament. 500 point Tournament Legal. Free entry and everyone wins 1 Nova Promo Figure, and 1 Collateral Damage LE. 1 DC Giants Collector’s Set will be given out, as well as 1 Fantastic Forces Special Rewards Kit #1, 1 Fantastic Forces Special Rewards Kit #2, and 1 HeroClix Wall Scroll.
Saturday: 11am Booster Draft. Open 3 boosters of Sinister, build your best 300 point team and play! $10 entry and everyone wins 1 Nova Promo Figure and 1 Collateral Damage LE. 1 DC Giants Collector’s Set will be given out, as well as 1 Fantastic Forces Special Rewards Kit #1, 1 Fantastic Forces Special Rewards Kit #2, and 1 HeroClix Wall Scroll.
Sunday: 11am 400 points unrestricted. Free entry and everyone wins 1 Nova Promo Figure and 1 Collateral Damage LE. 1 DC Giants Collector’s Set will be given out, as well as 1 Fantastic Forces Special Rewards Kit #1, 1 Fantastic Forces Special Rewards Kit #2, and 1 HeroClix Wall Scroll.
There are great prizes that will be divided up amongst these three tournaments: 1 Snap Wilson Promo Figure, 1 SKYMAX Promo Figure, 1 Superman Robot Promo Figure, 1 Man of Steel Promo Figure, 1 Ultimate Clayface Promo Figure, 1 Dark Phoenix, 1 Spectre, 1 Galactus.
Every person that plays in a HeroClix tournament will be entered in a drawing to win these great door prizes! Each tournament you play in earns you another chance. 1 Dark Phoenix, 1 Invincibles Collector's Set, 1 Full Set of 16 Collateral Damage LEs, 1 Full Set of 16 Armor Wars.I'd be quite keen to get that LE Nova. :)
Lots of prize support.
I've already got Dark Phoenix, Galactus, and the Spectre, so the door prizes aren't a huge draw for me. It would be nice to get a free Invincible collector's set, and a lot of the other stuff would make for great trades at the very least. The Superman Robot would also be very attractive.
I must admit that I have no idea what a Fantastic Forces Special Rewards kit is.

I'm going down there with a mate friday morning, leaving saturday night.
Should be great fun. Can't go wrong with three sinister boosters.
