I for one am excited to use this new mechanic. It allows creativity, because it is not just about matching keywords, you also have to check if the actual characters are playable together in the first place. You'll be hard-pressed to try and meet the requirements for a theme, and still construct a competitive clix team. The benefits are good as well. Who wouldn't mind the built-in Probability Control, Ordinary Day, and ability to choose the map?

One thing though, looking at the Origin Keywords, E Shadow Thief and RE Catman don't have keywords. What gives?

yup i think it's an added bonus for people to be persuaded to create more comic influenced themes..

Seeing the KEYWORD FEMALE FURY brings tears to my eyes! (squint)
:p
Mwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!
At least we'll be getting 'pseudo teams' officially.
What! what! what! No APOKOLIPS keyword!?
Oh well you can't please 'em all.

Playing for fun for life!;)

Hahah about time they gave a bonus to teams that play well using a Themed approach.

Love the following keywords Legion and Mystical. hahah:p

And...do my eyes decieve me i Saw the keyword GREEN LANTERN! YEs!?!? That ought to put more usability in a team playing only with Green Lanterns!

Hmmmm .... not to float our boat(much). we've been putting in THEMATIC formats for more than a year now at ATC. Comic adaptations (Age of Apocalypse, Civil War, JLA/Avenger), Revamped TEAMS(including ODDball teams like New Warrior, Flash' Rogue gallery, etc), unusual concepts (RPG-campaign style tourney). Everybody's invited, u don't have to wait for Wizkids.

At any rate, still an excellent move from WIzkids. If somewhat belated.

hell yeah.. you dnt need the mechanic to field your themed team..

you can play them any time you want.. the ATC tourneys are a great way to try them out since this venue supports theme play the most!

hell yeah.. you dnt need the mechanic to field your themed team.. Just to add to that, you don't need a mechanic OR a format to force you into fielding a themed team. Sa G2 naman meron niyan, if not all. Take a look at Gian for example. Pseudo CSA, Bat Allies, etc.

I'm just wondering if the prob bonus will apply with the CSA as well coz if it does, WOW.

I sure hope it does. Even with a REALLY small selection of figs, the CSA theme team can be even more competitive with that mechanic.

Thanos would have to roll at least 4 times just so he can hit a CSA character.

Yes. Pseudo characters should be credited as well! I can't wait for a format that allows character 'proxying' for still unmade clix. (The very reason for my modding!)

Wouldn't a complete fearsome five be awesome!?
Or the Antimatter JLI...
Ice or Killer Frost could be Frostbite
Green Arrow could be Deadeye
Metamorpho could be Element man

OH and green lantern could be Power Ring!

and for the ones I've already made...
Cheetah as Mad Harriet
Manhunter as Lashina
Blackfire as Artemis

sigh!:ermm:

The Anti-Matter JLI? You should see my VS Deck. It has them AND the CSA together! Really nice. ;)

THEMED TEAMS is quite popular at ATC. I don't know how BIG an advantage is the IGNORING BFCs. The EXTRA prob is CRUCIAL but ONLY in close games. Parang XTRA timeout yun sa basketball, kung close game significant PERO pag massacre walang silbi. The MAP advantage ALSO might be CRUCIAL but REALLY can't tell. Kasi ang FEELING ko a VERY WELL constructed army can OVERCOME this advantages themed teams HAVE. OPINIONS are very much welcome.

Dawg said some very good points here. And i for one believe that a very well constructed team (same way goes for a themed team) can pretty much win over other teams whether themed or not.

Here's some breakdown/analysis on the thoughts from previous g-2 wednesday tournaments.

Disclaimer
The figs mentioned or rationale used below is based on an objective perspective and is by no means, meant to hurt anybody's feelings :) kilala mo naman mga tao dito. Pag nakamention ka ng bakla, si charlon agad. Pag destiny or fate, si xtriker. Or pag bata si Cons naman.

First tournament
The first thing that came to my mind in this tournament is that players would try to build around figs with keywords (only avengers and origins had keywords back then).

So the first thing that came to my mind is that if they are going to build themed teams, one of the weaknesses of those teams is that not all figs would be able to contribute to a very good cause at all times (e.g. you'll be fielding in a moonknight or a blazing skull over some other fig with better capabilities for the points; no offense to the users, just an illustration of a point) This means that a player effectively uses "less points" on that fig. Instead of using a TK or an outwit or a more cost effective hitter, a player is forced to settle with a less but still ok fig. This means an area where a constructed team can capitalize.

Second thing is that these figs (mentioned above) would not have long dials (an average of 5-7 clicks). A strong hitter like Hyperion could pretty much take advantage of this format because every time hyperion attacks, he could kill one of your opponents' figs (whether mentioned above or something more useful and not be threatened by the remaining figs like blazing skull).

Third, since your opponents would be benefiting from keywords, minimizing your exposure to the bonuses of keywords would definitely be a plus. Hyperion, I believe, is a good candidate for reducing such risks.

As for the result of the tournament, I lost :) However, the team was able to put up a good fight and is already enough in at least giving credit to your team building concept :)

For another tournament, with almost the same format (future sight, keywords from older sets in effect), I used the same team building concept with the team built around Man of Steel.

Kudos to all the players who do use the "other" figs in their teams :) you know who you are :)
