What's PAX? (aside from a TV station I don't watch)
Penny Arcade Expo.
It is a gaming (table top and video) expo that for the last 4 years was held in Bellevue.
Now it is moving to Seattle with twice the room as before. Apparently it is taking over some of the steam that E3 used to have (according to their website). They will have Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony there as well as software developers and other gaming companies showing off their stuff. Wizkids is planning on having events and selling Foom an Co. there as well.

Plkangus and I went to a convention last year in Seattle called Dragonflight which was held on the same weekend. Overall I say the convention pulled in maybe 100 people so we walked over to PAX on Saturday and there were thousands of happy people. Dragonflight boo! Pax yeah!

07/21/2007, 02:49
Anyone interested in some non-official clix games at PAX. After all the spirit of the whole expo is the gamer and some pickups would be awesome. Especially if we can make a scene of it and get some of those non-clixers at PAX (which there will be literally thousands of) to notice heroclix...
Additionally the DHC thread here on the realms got me thinking that we should probably plan and implement a West Coast version of Drunken HeroClix somewhere in the afterhours of the expo... thoughts?

Some points of interest for the Clixers going to PAX:
Friday, 4:00pm-5:00pm [ST C]:
The Future of Miniatures Gaming
Tabletop miniatures were on pewter-and-plastic-sprue autopilot for decades, and then the clicky base innovation and pre-painted plastics kicked the hobby into high gear. Now in addition to high-quality metal minis from Privateer and plastics from Wizkids and WotC, we've got constructible miniatures and advances in manufacturing that open up new possibilities. At this panel market leaders reflect on the present state of the art, and drop hints about what's next.
Speakers: Matt Wilson (Privateer Press)
Saturday, 9:00pm - 10:00pm [ST B]:
Pitch Your Tabletop Game Idea!
German abstract strategy games are succeeding alongside RPG/tabletop hybrids from Fantasy Flight Games and party games like Apples to Apples. The astounding transition of Uno and Catan to Xbox Live could change everything, putting "video game money" in reach of tabletop designers. It's clear that tabletop games are booming; could your design be the next Big Thing? Pitch your idea to a panel of industry veterans and learn what makes for a successful game.
Still no word on tourney schedules...
Also, start thinking of stuff you need for trades and let us all know!
Anyone that might have a Johnny Thunder available for trade would be my hero...

Hey fellas & fellettes! Seattle reprezent!
So a couple of my Heroclix buddies are moving away, & my regular venue doesn't always attract that many people, so I was wondering if anyone in the Seattle area was looking for someone to play games with? I like meeting new people, & I love this game, so don't be shy about contacting me for a game sometime.
Alternately, if you find yourself bored on Sundays around 5, you should stop by Arcane Comics in Ballard. It's a nice place, & the owner is a cool guy. Just sayin'.

09/24/2007, 23:05

Congrats on the prerelease. WK is really having a prerelease at their HQ and has anyone heard anything more?
What's the low down on Comic Book Inc, do they have a good selection of back issues, trades, etc? One thing I liked about the days of old was Gabby's store.

Quite a few back issues that are easy to look through. I know that new customers always get 10% off and there are often sales there. The store has been in the finals for the Eisner award for stores. It's more of a 'Border's Books' feel to it and my wife likes that quite a bit. :)
They are also having two big signings in November in Eric Powell on...the 16th? and Bendis on the day after Thanksgiving with a Q & A. I hope to see you both there for the prerelease if possible. :)

Hey folks! Just checking in, its been a while, but Clix has returned, and with it I have as well.
What's the state of Western Washington Clix? I'm pretty sure one of the two shops I played at here in Seattle (the only two in town that had tourneys...) stopped having tourneys with the 'death' of Wizkids. The other continued through the darkness of the last year, but I became unable to go to tournaments due to work and social schedules. Unfortunately, I remain unable to get to the tournaments here in Seattle on any sort of regular basis, but I hope to get some games in more often now (especially given the fact I just invested in a case of HoT).
I was able to stop into Dreamstrands on Sunday evening and was very pleasantly surprised to discover some of the old guard regulars remaining vigilant and playing with as much (if not more) enthusiasm as ever. I was too late to play myself, but it was great to see everyone and be able to totally nerd out over a new set. Good times.
As for me, I'm unable to get to any regularly scheduled tourneys here in Seattle, which bums me out. I might be able to get to some after the new year, but that's a maybe. Question is, does anyone have a local, that is Seattle, game on any regular basis?
These days all of my gaming is relegated to Monday nights when I go to game night at the Victory Lounge on Eastlake. Anyone 21+ in town should think about coming down! its a good time, lots of people playing lots of games with cheap beer and $1 hotdogs. If anyone is interested let me know, I'll give you details.
That's all I've got for now, but I hope to reconnect with some Clix folks and get many a game in!

ALL WW PLAYERS:
Comic Book Ink in Tacoma is having their normal Saturday tournament at 5 pm this weekend. However, this week the folks from Wizkids are coming with free goodies and cameras to film players for company use. They are also offering a free HoT booster when you buy one at the shop. Please pass the word along so that we get a great turnout. We typically have 6-10 players, but 20+ would be great.
Thanks.

For anyone who may want to attend, the regular gamers at Comic Book Ink voted for this game via email, and here's the rules for the wacky scenario:
*****PINBALLCLIX*****
Build a 500 point force, following the rules below:
1) No double-based characters
Giants allowed but treated as standard characters
2) All figures will take knockback
3) There will be no knockback damage
4) Knockback will be double that of damage taken, with triple knockback on doubles, quadruple knockback on Critical Hits, double knockback on Force Blast
5) Characters being knocked back ignore hindering terrain and character bases, and bounce off walls and continue knockback
6) Figures with Charge or Combat Reflexes take half the knockback
7) Transporters/figures with Hypersonic Speed do no knockback with range attacks, and knockback equal to damage taken on melee attacks.
8) 6 bumpers are placed by players, which do not affect line of fire. Bumpers cannot be stopped on, & knocked back figures bounce off the bumpers.

Selling singles? I think that Comic Evolution in Puyallup does. Games Matrix might. Maybe Spy Comics in Fed Way.

Spy comics is now Fantasium. pretty big overhaul in there. place looks waaaayyy better than it used to.
and Comic Evolution moved to a smaller place and just do comics now. hes selling his heroclix and such on an amazon account now.
i think gaming matrix is the only shop in the "area" i havent checked out yet, but i plan to on friday or saturday.
the next 3 sundays at fantasium they are having 400/500/and then 600 point games. make a good and an evil team and you roll to see what you play.
sadly i missed the cap booster days, but this should be a nice and easy first in store session i have.

Comic Book Ink will be having a pretty awesome event this Saturday.
It's a 2-parter: Old school sets in a Sealed event as a qualifier for a King of the Hill Match on all 4 SHIELD Helicarrier Maps joined together!
We're trying to help keep the lights on at the shop as they're going through a bit of a rough patch currently.
We have LOTS of prizes, and hope for a good time to be had by all!
For the full details, CLICK HERE (http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/showthread.php?t=329714) for the thread about the game!
Hope to see lots of friendly faces out this weekend!
