View Full Version : The "Who's the Werewolf?" game
For this game, 12 of you will be trapped in a snow swept mansion in the Carpathian mountains. One of you is a werewolf!!!!
You must deduce the identity of the werewolf before he kills all of you. This is made even more difficult by the fact that not even the werewolf knows who he is--he (or she) doesn't remember transforming into an animal and doing away with his (or her) friends.
If the werewolf is the only survivor, then he is the winner.
Here's how it works:
12 of you post that you want to play. First come, first serve. You'll be numbered 1 through 12.
I will randomly choose one of you to be the werewolf.
Then Player #1 posts the names of four players--he may include his own name. I will PM him "Yes" if one of those named is the werewolf (but will not specify which one). I'll PM "No" if none of them is the wolf.
It's entirely up to Player #1 whether to share the answer with the other players. He can even lie about it if he wants.
Then Player #1 can accuse one of the other players of being the wolf. If at least half the remaining players agree, the accused player is killed.
If the dead player is the werewolf, everyone else wins.
If the dead player is NOT the wolf, then someone else is randomly killed by the wolf. Then the next player in numerical sequence who still lives gets to submit four names, starting the cycle over again.
This continues until the werewolf is either killed or is the last surviver.
So, if at least 12 of you are interested, please join in.

If you haven't seen it yet, the Zeferelli version of Hamlet is quite good, it's the one with mel gibson as hamlet. as always, act 5 is just fantastic.

If you opt to do away with her, but she's not the werewolf, then one of you will be killed by the real werewolf. In this case, two innocent people go down.
If you spare her life and she's not the werewolf, then the real wolf will still kill one of you later on.
If you do away with her and she is the werewolf, the rest of you win the game and live.

Assuming Splashy is telling the truth, the wisest thing to do would be to eliminate the four possibilities, because one of them IS the werewolf. Since even the werewolf doesn't know who the werewolf is, as per the game instructions, there is no reason I can think of off the bat for Splashy to be leading us down the garden path.
I reluctantly agree on Shel. We have to whittle the stack down. If I survive to do my investigation I'll be able to confirm whether or not we're dealing with a kosher list.
Splashy66 actually does have a motivation to lie. If none of his four suspects is the werewolf, then that means he MIGHT be. So he might want to divert suspicion from himself.
That's not a hint one way or the other--it's just my job as moderator of this game to sow suspicion and paranoia.

That's true, but at this very early stage of the game I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I'm an early investigator, so if I survive to do so and actually see that none of the characters he listed are, in fact, the werewolf, we'd KNOW he was up to something.
I am open to listening to arguments from my fellow investigators, here.

I know Antipathy isnt h were wolf, so he's crossed off the list. Who we have left is Shel, Reddyeddy, and Bigsoph, so the next person has to trty one of those 3 with completely other people, and then the next with a different person, and eventualy we'll get it. So I UN-Nominate Jack to be killed.

I hoping to think of a way to modify the game for future tries so that some players don't just get knocked out early with no chance to really do anything. I haven't come up with anything workable yet.

As such, I will nominate one of the two remaining choices and two people I am sure are not the werewolf. If the result is positive, my choice is the werewolf. If the choice is negative, the remaining candidate is the werewolf. If both turn out to be innocent, it's probably KitsuShel, since Doom verified Antipathy's innocence and had no reason to obfuscate.

Okay, I've PM'd Jack with a Yes or No on his suspects. Next, he needs to nominate someone to be a victim of vigilante justice or choose not to. Once he makes the nomination, you can all have until 3 pm Eastern time tomorrow to vote "Thumbs up" or "Thumbs down" on his chosen victim.

Screaming for blood and revenge, you all fall upon reddyeddy and beat him to death with silver candlesticks.
That night, you all sleep peacefully. He was indeed the werewolf.
So you eliminate the werewolf after suffering only three innocent deaths. What's more, you didn't kill anyone innocent before getting the werewolf. Of course, a number of you wanted to kill an innocent suspect, but what the hey.
I pretty much made this game up on the spur of the moment. If anyone has any suggestions for how to improve it for future tries, please post your suggestions here.
I think Two Werewolf's could be very interesting.

I should come back as a vengeful ghost to haunt everyone who killed me. If Quentin Collins got to be a werewolf then became a ghost, it ought to work for me.
I mean you all could have rigged up a silver cage to throw me in on nights of the full moon. Sheesh, you all took the easy way out. Where's the tolerance? Where's the progressiveness? If alcoholism is a disease, lycanthropy ought to be you know. I mean in both cases you're possessed by demons. You all should have tried to help me work it through. Now I have to figure out how to tap into the powers of the Spectre so I can have Vengeance.

Kick the ghost in the jimmy!
I wonder if it would be possible to do a "Thing from Another World" game, where one player is the shape-changing alien. Rather than killing the other aliens, he instead "absorbs" them and turns them into aliens as well.
That way, no one is eliminated. But the problem would be to give the players a fair system for figuring out who the aliens are before it's too late.
What if the alien only stands a 50% chance of absorbing a victim every turn? Each player could have a turn performing a blood test on another player to confirm whether he's human or alien. If he's alien--he's killed.
So Player #1 picks another player and performs the blood test. If he's lucky and hits the alien first time, then the alien is killed and the game is over.
If his test subject is human, then the alien has a 50% chance of turning someone else into an alien.
Then the process starts over--Player #2 picks someone to test. And so on.
Does that sound workable?
I might try something like this and make it like John Carpenter's The Thing
Remember the scene where they test the creature's blood?
To start you allocate turns, where for each slot of time you decide whether you eat, sleep, hunt or research/look for stuff
I would track values... go too long without food and sleep and you get weaker.
As the game speeds up, turns would get shorter (value, not real time)

I was thinking of that movie when I came up with the game. (I disliked the over-reliance on gore in that film, but enjoyed the premise--based on the old John Campbell story "Who Goes There"--a lot.)
