I snagged Peers' description of the game since it saves me time having to retype it all. Plus, he's much more eloquent. I altered parts since this game is slightly different than his and we have realms virgins here (so be gentle veterans).
Okay, here's a quick recap on how we're going to be playing this for those who haven't read up on it at mafiascum.net or elsewhere.
Each of you will be sent a private message (PM) a role you have been assigned. This PM will include your character, alignment, and any special abilities you might have. You may not copy-and-paste anything from this message. I occasionally have a distinctive writing style (read misspelling style), and it could be a giveaway as to if someone is telling the truth or not... a healthy dose of paranoia is what we're going for. Although not prohibited, there is no need to act 'in character'... if you start saying 'bub' and 'snikt' a lot, people will figure out who you are. You're trying to hide your identity so that whoever is killing people doesn't decide to go for you next.
The game will begin with a story post by me, detailing why everyone is here and the first death. After that, you will have 48 hours to vote on who you want to lynch. Votes are cast by typing VOTE: NAME or CHANGE VOTE: NAME in this thread. PLEASE BOLD ALL VOTES! You may also vote for 'Nobody'. If a majority vote is not achieved by the end of 48 hours, nobody will be lynched. Either way, you get another story post and we enter the Night Phase. The Night Phase will last for 24 hours. Anyone with a Night Ability must PM me their target by the end of the phase (or PM me 'nope, not using it tonight' if you are allowed to). At the end of the phase, you get another story post learning who died... erm, I mean, what happened during the night. And we repeat until one of two things happens: Only Mafia are left standing, or only Townies are left standing.
In this game, the Mafia are represented by old school US Secret Service agents. The Townies are represented by...well...Townies. Expect anything... past games I've been part of have involved cults, serial killers, multiple mafia families, suicide pacts, powers that change every few days, all kinds of oddness. We won't have a lot of that... but there will be some.
Remember: Unless your Role allows you to, you may only discuss this game in this thread. Anyone caught communicating about this game outside this thread, without a Role that allows them to, will be auto-killed.
I hope everyone enjoys themselves. The game will begin Monday.
And since we've got a bunch of people who are new to the site and its workings, I'll clarify some things. This is a privately owned site. That means they can warn you or kick you off for anything they want. That said, unless you act up, they won't do that so just be mindful of some rules. No cursing or bypassing the swear filter. If something slips and you notice a #### show up in your post, leave it that way. We are all adults and can figure out what you meant.
No aggressive behavior. There's a difference between playing a game and being indignant. That line is subjective, but use your best judgment. Sexual connotations are frowned upon. Don't get explicit. You want to make a juvenile joke, I don't have a problem with it, but if you're too graphic, you may get in trouble. Keep in mind I can't condone these juvenile jokes, but I have made quite a few myself, within reason of course. These rules may seem restrictive, but they're not as tight as I make them out to be.
Oh and KitsuShel is a moderator. you can tell because her screen name is red. That means she has the power to give warning points and ban people. If she tells you to knock it off, please listen. She'll be playing the game with us so she'll probably be the most prominent mod in this thread. I guess that's about it. There are a couple days for all of the veterans to add anything else they can think of. I ask that everyone post here so I can get an accurate count on who's paying attention and who's up to speed with realms registrations and all.
Also, I forgot. For the newbies, to send a private message, the easiest way is to find a post made by the intended receiver. Click on their screen name and then choose "send a private message to *****" from the drop down menu.

Barely at all. Over half the players don't know you and NO ONE knows what character you're playing at first so it'll be very little help anyway. Of course, that's just my opinion.

Yeah, while the game is in progress, whether or not you're dead, you CANNOT speak about the game outside this thread. That could possibly throw off the balance of the game and get you mod-killed. :devious:

Every time you edit your sig, it edits it on every post you've ever made. So to test it, just save it, and then check or refresh a post you've made.

Well it may be that you've gotta wait to be approved. Or you might need to edit your options.
There is a banner at the top with a bunch of superheroes in it. Right below the banner is a blue bar with links in it to "Forum", "Units", "Photo Gallery", etc. The 5th one from the left is called "UserCP." Click that. Then there will be a tall vertical box on the left that says "Control Panel" at the top. Under "Settings & Options", click "Edit Options." In the box labeled "Messaging & Notification" check the box that says "Enable Private Messaging." Then go all the way to the bottom and hit "Save Changes." This will allow you to send and receive private messages (pm's) to/from me and other users provided your registration has been approved.

I've got a bunch of non-realmers(notice all the 0 post count people) that I'm trying to coordinate to get them signed up. The big hold up is that there's a waiting period before they can receive PM's.
I've got the opening scene almost written, but I'm waiting on 2 or 3 players to be able to receive their initial pm's. Then I'll do the drawing for who is what character.
You guys are gonna get a kick out of this. I know I am already.

Dude, haven't you seen the Island? Clones can be born on any day and have their growth process sped upuntil they synch with yours. Then if you die and your clone replaces you BAM! Changed DoB. Geez. Rookies. :rolleyes:

This section we are in right now is called Another Realm, it doesn't not add to any post count because we had some issue awhile back about people and thinking post count = e-wang. So now, this section doesn't get counted, since its not technically HeroClix related.

Glad to see you could make it. Once you're active, we're set to go. I'll send out the 2 remaining roles as soon as I can. We've got a busy weekend here at home and some of the players here are on vaca so we'll still be starting Monday morning. In the meantime, if I can set up the premise before hand, I will. Then I'll just drop the flag on the gamestart when Monday comes.

Just so you veterans have something to stew over. Here's the game's premise. Enjoy!
The James-Younger gang is running from the law. They’ve set up camp with intentions of laying low for a while in-between heists. They’re in a town where they think they’re safe. They couldn’t be more wrong. The locals all seem to be sympathizers, but some of their loyalties lie elsewhere. Whether it’s money, fear, or personal reasons, some of the townspeople are fixin’ to see the James-Younger Gang turned over to the authorities for a “fair” trial and an immediate lynching.

Typically, there's no break for weekends, although if I get enough pm's about people being on vacation (since it is the summer), I can make the phases longer so that nobody really misses anything anyway.

Day 1
The town comes alive bright and early as usual. Except this is no ordinary day. There has been a murder. During the night, someone made use of the gallows. The victim? Sheriff Lucas Bishop. Was he hanged for getting in the way of the Secret Service? Or was he hanged for alerting them to the presence of the James Younger Gang? Only time will tell. All we know for sure is that the man is dead.

Seeing as how I know who kilt the Sheriff( it was them there little green men in the Flying Saucer I saw last night) I vote to take out that varmit m_a_caque.
I'm naturally inclined NOT to side with people who see flying saucers, and then want to kill people.
That's pretty darn close to "The Dog ate my homework. Then told me to kill the babysitter."
V'Shael, good point. Maybe we should investigate who has a dog and see if the good sheriff did any babysitting. ...or... maybe we should all just get raging drunk at the Saloon listening to Maple Leaf Rag...

Hmm...while I admit tradition in these games is to try and get Shel removed ASAP, this time I have to agree with her.
Just not much going on at this point to justify "random attack lynching". We're as likely to hit an innocent as we are someone guilty and that doesn't sit well with my conscience.

okay, well, because I'm bored, I've been reading over the mods original post. The only clue I can see (apart from momentarily thinking the Sherrif was Lucas Buck, and so might rise from the dead in a day or two) is that there are potentially two suspect groups named.
The James-Younger gang, who are in the town, keeping a low profile.
And the Secret Service (?)
So I think we've got at least three groups in the town at the moment.
I know that's not much right now, but I think it'll be useful if we get used to the idea of posting theories/thoughts and ideas.
It's a given that criminals such as arsonists and serial murderers often return to the scene of the crime -- sometimes to relive the crime.
Yeah well, if you're one of those Westerner types that have learned yer letters and yer readin, you'd know the scene of the crime was the local gallows, not the Sherrif's office.

You read it and come up with possible meanings. That is all.
You know, with helpful answers like that, maybe the Sherrif was killed by disgruntled townfolk? Ever thought of that?
Okay, my guess... The Red and Green shells are hitting "random" people. But maybe they're not random. Maybe the Red marked guys are one team, and the green marked guys are another team.
If this is true, than anyone who is marked Red will know their other team mates (and know if they were marked red as well) and hence can deduce that the green paint victims are also a team.
This means the they will most likely concentrate on wiping each other out, (whew!) giving the townies a (bit) of a break, before they start murdering the survivors.
Of course, we can't do anything with this unless we know which people were hit with which paint balls...

A majority has ben reached. There will be no pitch forks and torches today. Mainly because torches don't help much during the day. That and pitch forks don't help tie nooses.

Well the first day is usually pretty fast. From there on out, things get a bit slower. As soon as I get the last 2 pm's I can start on the write-up.

Night 1:
Spending most of the evening in The Winchester (the saloon), the townspeople tried to forget that there is little else to do in this small town. Drinks were served, cards were played, songs were sung. To the casual viewer, it was a quiet night.
Only a few things of mild interest happened at all. A woman seemed to be leading a man up the stairs and into a room. It’s unsure who was actually staying in that particular room, but the woman seemed familiar with her surroundings. A local and his kemosabe sat in the corner conversing for most of the night before leaving. Not long after that, a man who had been at the poker table all evening retired to his room frustrated with the night’s take. A nervous man walked up the stairs to the rooms and entered one. Some other people came and went, but it was hard to keep track with all the foot traffic. Nothing incredibly suspicious. Or was there?

Day 2:
Little Jill shrieks as she leans over the local well to fetch a pail of water for her mother to cook with. She dashes away towards her home, her skin gone pale with fright. As the townspeople gather to see what the ruckus is, they peer into the well only to find a man hanging from the rope used to raise the bucket. His body mangled from a struggle and a bullet between his eyes. The victim is none other than Rick Grimes - The Nice Young Man played by Rokk Krinn (alignment: good).
In the midst of this horrific scene, a portly man with dark hair and stained white work gloves taps the deputy’s star, pauses for a second, and then starts running around like a mad man bumping into townspeople with every step, exclaiming “Here we go!”
As the portly man runs around, off in the distance appears a man on a horse. As the man draws closer to town, the group can see him better. He is a slender man dressed in grey. How odd that he should wear neutral colors in a town so divided as this. (Yes, that’s a hint.) As he gets even closer, it is evident that there is a scar under his right eye. The closer he gets, the more the scar grows until the crowd realizes that the whole right side of his face is scarred up something fierce. As he rides up right in front of the townies, he mutters, “I’m lookin’ fer somebody, but don’t worry. I’ll find ‘em. And once I do, I’ll be out of your way.”
After the commotion has died down, the people return to their normal routines, but this day will be remembered as anything but normal. A few townies go to enter The Winchester for a mid day break and notice a man sleeping in a rocking chair on the porch. The most observative of the townies notices a wet spot on the porch under the chair. He moves in for a closer look and touches the sleeping man to see if he is ok. The man slumps out of the chair to reveal a bleeding knife wound in the middle of his back. It was later revealed that the man was Rollin H. Parker - Secret Service Agent played by V’Shael (alignment: evil). Was he killed during the distraction at the well? Has he been perched there a while? One thing is certain. If anyone knows how all these atrocities occurred, they’re not talking.
I ask that Neither Rokk, nor V'Shael post to this thread or pm any other players from now until the game is over.
Day 2 has now started and will continure for 48 hours or until a majorty is reached.

Poor Sheriff. All he wanted to be was a dressmaker, but all the other kids made called him a sissy, and made fun him, so that dream was lost. Actually, I really just want to know more about the story and try to gather some more clues. All the action happens in the night phase. Granted, somebody might die, and with all the talking I've been doing lately I'm afraid it might be me, but I'll take my chances.
So, just start voting no lynch! That way, we can gather more clues. Things are too open right now.
