23rd player to do it. Took him long enough. But at least its finally over. He'll probably retired at the end of the year.
Way to go Glavine!
I think he'll be back for one more season.
Too bad he couldn't do it as a member of the Braves. Do you think he'll make the HoF in his first year. Maddux -- definitely yes. Glavine -- I'm thinking maybe his second year (or at worst, his third).

I disagree. Maddux Smoltz, and Glavien will all make it on first ballet. And my guess is, they'll all be together in a special section of cooperstown. Thats how I'd want it done if i was them.
I disagree to your disagreement. I don't think Glavine has been a truly dominating pitcher during his entire career. He had some good years and has been consistent. 300 wins is not a first year lock into the HoF. I don't think Smoltz will be first year either. Both will make it, but not in their first year.
The plaques are put in order of year of induction. So Glavine, Maddux and Smoltz may not necessarily be together, but they will have their place in the part of Cooperstown where they display the different decades. I would love to see Bench, Morgan, and Perez together, but they are only together in the '70's display (along with Rose).

How is smoltz not first ballot. Out of the 3 i figured him for sure.
200 wins, 150 saves, and hes in like the top 15 in strikeouts.
Maddux is closing in on 350 wins.
And 300 wins IS a big deal. If clemens makes it in first ballot, so should maddux.
If you go back and read what I wrote, I said that Maddux is a lock at first year. Clemens is a lock too. Glavine and Smoltz are the two that aren't.
300 wins is a big deal (I never said otherwise), but it's not a lock for making the HoF in the first year you are on the ballot.

I disagree. Maddux Smoltz, and Glavien will all make it on first ballet.
First Ballet? I didnt know that cooperstown was a musical.
"Cooperstown, Cooperstown! Its a wonderful place!"
"Cooperstown, all alone in the moonlight...."
"Were not gonna pay, were not gonna pay, were not gonna pay, LAST YEARS FEES!"
Personally I think the First Ballot would be more suitable - for which Glavine and Maddux will both be inducted. Just like 500 HRs and 3,000 Hits, 300 wins is an auto qualifier. Smoltz may be inducted, though he may end up being another Bert Blyleven.

Smoltz has 200 wins and 150 saves. No one else in history has that. Hows that not first ballotness?
He could make it in his first year, but I wouldn't say he's a lock. The writers have a high standard, especially the first year.
Here are the First Ballot Inductees
In Chronological Order
Name Year Inducted
Bob Feller 1962
Jackie Robinson 1962
Ted Williams 1966
Stan Musial 1969
Sandy Koufax 1972
Warren Spahn 1973
Mickey Mantle 1974
Ernie Banks 1977
Willie Mays 1979
Al Kaline 1980
Bob Gibson 1981
Hank Aaron 1982
Frank Robinson 1982
Brooks Robinson 1983
Lou Brock 1985
Willie McCovey 1986
Willie Stargell 1988
Johnny Bench 1989
Carl Yastrzemski 1989
Joe Morgan 1990
Jim Palmer 1990
Rod Carew 1991
Tom Seaver 1992
Reggie Jackson 1993
Steve Carlton 1994
Mike Schmidt 1995
George Brett 1999
Nolan Ryan 1999
Robin Yount 1999
Kirby Puckett 2001
Dave Winfield 2001
Ozzie Smith 2002
Eddie Murray 2003
Dennis Eckersley 2004
Paul Molitor 2004
Wade Boggs 2005
Tony Gwynn 2007
Cal Ripken, Jr. 2007
All of these players were pretty much dominant during their entire career.
I just don't think Smoltz was a dominating pitcher for a majority of his career. Sure he had some good years (and about 2-3 great years as a starters and another 2-3 as a closer), but those aren't "lock" qualities.
Here's an interesting article:

Because people like Joe Morgan (http://www.firejoemorgan.com) have sway in the process.

Wow. I'm impressed that you found thwe perfect article to support your opinion :)
He plays Heroclix?
He might in his spare time. Next time I see him at the ballpark I'll make sure to ask (or teach him). Maybe he'll be able to teach me a wicked curve ball so I can earn lots of money for one year before I blow out my arm and need surgery.

Everything. Other than the legendary Tim McCarver, he is the worst ever to grace a TV broadcast of baseball.
I suggest becoming familiar with www.firejoemorgan.com - It is one of my top five favorite websites/blogs.

Everything??? You are hopefully only referring to his broadcasting and not his ballplaying career.

Touche my friend, touche. Yes, I am only talking about his "broadcasting" career, if you could call it that.
