I'm gonna go Wiki my character... It'd suck if I missed the opportunity to type in an accent.

Which is why if the choice was between you and Biz, I'd choose Biz.
But thats besides the point right now. I really think Charles is one of the last Mafia guys running around.
On what basis am I Mafia? If you're gonna make an accusation, please offer proof. Or else it just sounds like a last-ditch attempt on a Mafia person (Shel) to place the blame on someone else. Seriously, I want to know the basis for your wild accusations.

Funny. Carlos has been right some of the time, but he has also been all over the board. This late in the game, the alternate Earthers must be pretty desperate. I have been up front. You, on the other hand, are starting to look more and more suspicious. Why should I investigate biz and not you?
Ok, see, this is where you get into trouble and make me think even more that you're a villain. You start the double-talking.
We pretty know through Peeres (albeit indirectly) that Carlos and Vicious aren't posting to this thread for a reason, so why try and act like he's just bailing?
PLus, I never said not investigate me. You asked between Biz and Ham, and I chose Biz. If you want to investigate me, go right ahead, but if you are evil, I doubt you'll tell the truth.

No real proof, other than Carlos saying you were. Actually, not even that. I'm basing my gut instinct off of your attitude and the way you double talk when backed into a corner.
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Carlos had someone innocuous locked up and you were SBP.

Sorry, with the end game this close, 50% is better than a 100% chance that he kills one of us tonight.

Bailing? Who was bailing? Sorry, but I don't understand your comment.
I will investigate you. So far I have been telling the truth. Here's some more truth - I don't have and have never had a killing power. I have been gathering information and keeping to myself, which is why I never expected to last the night last time. If I investigate you but wind up dead, you will be the culprit - because you have to be hiding something.

Well, since it's come to that, I will offer my vote as well.
Vote to lynch: KitsuShel.
Doctor, I don't know if you can get me out of this one, but Shel's the one you should go after - if you are able to do so.

Sorry, went out to dinner. Any steakhouse that serves free peanuts in the waiting area is goooooood...
Day 6 is over.
You all know the drill. Charlesx lost the popularity contest and was quickly cornered.
It was 4 to 1 odds... and unlike everyone else, this one put up a fight of it. He lasted all of two minutes before he was finally caught and thrown into some explosing computer panels.
His final words? "But... but I'm the goddamned Batman..."
charlesx is dead. He was Batman of Earth-44, nothing else needs to be said.
We are now in Night 6. The two missing people have returned, however, they cannot communicate with anyone until the thread is unlocked.
Short and sweet, that's how we roll now.
Night 6 is over
The remaining heroes awoke to find a body already awaiting them in the autopsy room. Their two missing comrades had rejoined them, but one man, who had had a guardian angel looking over him the whole Crisis, finally fell prey to something very, very cold -- his body shattered into hundreds, possbily thousands, of small, circular bits.
Thawmus is dead. He was Plastic Man of New Earth. And to think some people didn't believe him...
And you know what that means...
Day 7 has begun! With five players left, three is a majority vote. For the record, those remaining are bix567, CarlosMucha, IronHam, KitsuShel, and Vicious X. If we need 48 hours on this one, I'll be amazed.
Wait isn't Plastic Man good? Or are some evil(Sorry, my DC history isn't the greatest.:nervous: )
Yes, Plastic Man is good. Annoying at times, but good.

I'm sure Vic is a villain, but what if he's not the only one? Then we still have more work to do. At that point, you (Biz) and Ham will start getting a bit hammered with questions.

I took out the Joker (the serial killer) and I took out thawmus (he just had a lot of bad information, and he was on carlos hit list),....

just remember why would Peers give the mafia two groups with a ton of evil guys and put two serial killers??? and not a single vigilante??? it doesn;t make sense
Well, Carlos' vote makes it a majority.
Day Seven is over.
Four on one. But vicious x was no Batman. The last time he was defeated, it took hundreds, thousands of heroes working together, multiple deaths...
... but here, on this station, in this pocket of reality, where he was tired from killing, he fell.
Vicious X is dead. He was Superboy of Earth-Prime, 'nuff said.
Game over! Your winners: New Earth!
From the ashes of this latest Crisis rises a new Justice League of CarlosMucha, KitsuShel, biz567, and IronHam!
Big reveal coming in a few minutes.
So... who was who, you may ask?
Justice League of Earth-33
--JackAsterson was Superman, the Mafia Don.
--batfink was Wonder Woman, the roleblocker.
--calabolg was Martian Manhunter, the shapechanger (and, later, the replacement don)
--Scott Neelan was The Question, their investigator.
Justice League of Earth-44
--JacinB was Superman, the Mafia Don.
--theanalogkid was Wonder woman, the roleblocker.
--KaineMak was Plastic Man, the shapechanger (and, later, the replacement don)
--charlesx was Batman, their investigator.
Both Leagues got hurt early on with the loss of their dons, and were allowed to elect a new one (with a rule that someone could 'steal' the election if they wanted... nobody took the bait tho). Both worked fairly well, but the town was either amazingly lucky or amazingly good when it game to ferretting out their leaders.
The Independants
--scehaono was Breach of... well, nobody was sure what Earth he was from. He was a Survivor -- he was ignored when it game to deciding who won, but if anyone else won and he was alive, he'd win too. Of coruse, he also got killed in the first night, so it didn't matter much.
--Antipathy was Spider-Man, Earth-616. After the first Mafia game, he asked Doc Strange to send him somewhere nobody knew him... bad idea. He would have won if New Earth won, but if investigated, would turn up as being from Earth-616.
--vicious x was Superboy of Earth-Prime, and he was our Serial Killer. A kill each night, and he'd win when he was the last man standing. And he got dang close to pulling it off, too... some of the best serial play I've seen.
New Earth: The Dead
--TMNT99 was Batman, Jackofhearts2005 was Robin. They could communicate via PM, and each one had a different investigation/tracking power. Unfortunately, Joker killed Robin the first night... which had me laughing my arse off when I got that PM.
--Doombot 3.1 was Booster Gold. He could pick two people and tell if they were from the same universe or not. Unfortunately, he never got to use that.
--Rokk_Krinn was Jay Garrick, The Flash. He could protect people from death.
--Scehaono was also Jay Garrick, The Flash, through a minor mistake on my part -- the player he replaced was Wally West, and it just seemed right to replace a Flash with a time-travelling version of another Flash.
--kontrol was The Joker, and just for fun, I made him one of the good guys... after the whole Emperor Joker thing, he learned that messing with reality would, well, not be fun. He won when New Earth won... but only if Batman and Robin were dead, too. So he wasn't -compeltely- good.
--Melkhor was Martian Manhunter, and he was New Earth's roleblocker.
--Thawmus was Plastic Man, and he had three powers: Be Bulletproof, Track Someone, or Misdirect Someone. But he couldn't use the same power two nights in a row. After all, Plastic Man can't be predictable.
--St-Dumas was The Question, and he got random conspiracy-related trivia about the game each night.
sstralkowski was Superman. He was immune to being killed at night... but got lynched during the day instead.
And now, the moment some of you have been waiting for...
New Earth: The Winners
--KitsuShel was Donna Troy. Each night, she'd pick someone she would give her life to defend. If that person was lynched the next day, she'd die in their place... with a 50-50 shot each night at returning to life.
--biz567 was Doctor Mid-Nite, and he was the one doing the autopsies (except the night he got roleblocked). Because he was still alive, you learned what Earth each dead person was from. Otherwise, you'd never know if you got good guys or bad guys.
--Iron Ham was Manhunter, willing to kill but way out of her league, if anyone targetted her at night, she'd kill them before they could do anything. And nobody ever targetted him. So yes, the body count each night could have been even higher.
--CarlosMucha was Wonder Woman, and living proof that these roles are given out randomly: Carlos got to use his lasso on someone each night and ask them a question, which they were forced to answer truthfully. Yes, I gave Carlos a role in which my ability to understand his English was of prime importance.
Let's give a round for our winners... and let me say one thing.
CarlosMucha is either a freakin' lunatic, or a genius in disguise. Some of the PMs I got from him... seriously, people, don't underestimate this guy.
Congrats to the winners, thanks to everyone for playing, and signups for the next game is in another thread...

How did Carlos find out who all the villains were in one night?
I really liked having Joker be the vigilante. That was an interesting twist that I only figured out after Kontrol explained it slightly.
And he had impeccable aim. Kontrol knew what he was doing.

What could the shape-changers and investigators do for the mafia teams?
Jackofhearts2005
08/29/2007, 13:27
I agree, Joker being the vigilante was freaking cool.
I also like that he had to get rid of me and turtle, though I wish he hadn't been so good at it. :(
I'm proud to see that while I fell fighting the good fight, my adopted home world lived on.
I tried to do my best, but I didn't have the best of luck with my roleblocking.
First night I blocked Sstralkowski (meaning that I was most likely the second figure Thawmus saw shadowing him), thus rendering him vulnerable. Fortunately nothing bad came from that.
Second night I blocked Biz and thus blew blew up the med-lab, preventing us from doing some much needed autopsies.
Third night I went for Dumas, and we all know what happened there
And my fourth and last night I finally struck gold and hit a villain (namely Batfink, in the guise of Wonder Woman-33, only to be killed by Superboy Prime before I could enjoy that sweet taste of success...
What could the shape-changers and investigators do for the mafia teams?
Shapechangers: Pick a target. Anyone trying to get you has a 50-50 chance of getting your target instead. Anyone trying to get your target has a 50-50 chance of getting you instead. So you could a) try to get bad things to happen to someone, or b) try to pick someone who would be protected, and hope the protection moves onto you.
Investigators: Pick a target, learn something about them. It could be character name, alignment, what their power did, anything depending on who you picked.

...
--Doombot 3.1 was Booster Gold. He could pick two people and tell if they were from the same universe or not. Unfortunately, he never got to use that.
I had really been looking forward to playing this role. Finally, I'd be able to investigate and not have to rely solely on what other people posted! And then one of the Mafias gets me on the first night ... :cheeky:

How did Carlos find out who all the villains were in one night?
I'm banking that when he used his lasso on the other Wonder Woman and asked who her teammates were, she gave up Calabolg and Scott. No clue about what he was saying about Thawmus and CharlesX, maybe it was info that he had found out previously and not shared?
How did Carlos find out who all the villains were in one night?
The only thing I can figure out is that he must've reasoned out one of them, then asked batfink's question and found out two more, and then deduced (or lucked into) the last one.
The reason he and vicious weren't around that night was, indeed, he had asked Superboy Prime who he had killed... so Superboy Prime went through the entire list, including everyone who died due to his punching time or his role in Infinite Crisis... which took a while.

I also am wondering why the Mafia took out Melkhor and me, and not Carlos, who I though would've been first on their hit list.
I must admit I'm wondering about this too. Did I do or say anything to mark me as a dangerous target?
The fact that Thawmus and Carlos continued to be around for so long certainly suprised me more than anything, not that I'm complaining, mind you, since I doubt New Earth could have survived without them.

So THAT'S why you kept defending me during day phases.
Truth be told, I figured either you were either a second doctor, or mafia. Which made it incredibly hard to put any pressure on you. Had I made you do so, we would have possibly outed our doctor. So I pretty much was saving you for after we killed charles and vicious.
Did anyone ever attack me?
Overall, I played a pretty bad game. There's some improvement to be made to my technique, that's for sure.
But at least my late-game radar still works. Vicious and Charles stood out like sore thumbs to me.

Ahaha... so I guess we all just happened to pick the same targets.

I think he was referring to the fact that multiple killers ended up targeting the same person.
Most of the time I just figured who was the most likely person for me to kill. Sometimes, like when Carlos found Scott, I was going to already. Though by that point I was so paranoid about Superboy coming to get me, I ignored the clue that charlesx left about viciousx being superboy. The only way he could have figured that out at the time is either he was an investigator aka one of the Batmen I had to kill or knew one.
Also, the first night I got lucky, and the forced to kill thing made me scour every post for a clue as to who to go after. Truth be told without that stipulation, I probably wouldn't have been nearly as accurate as I was, it really forced me to pay close attention to everybody.

To KaineMak, for having voted to lynch you. I tried hard to get attention drawn away from you and only voted to lynch when I realized that I couldn't save you. Like a true Don, I masterminded the lynch over to my colleague in crime.
A message to Shel: Darn you, woman! This is the second time that I have been Mafia Don and have been sent to the gallows thanks to you! Darn your female intuition! (BTW, very well played - you trusted your instincts and they served you well!!)
A message to thawmus: You were a most worthy opponent, so I take some solace in the fact that you got killed soon after I was lynched. I don't know how SBP didn't get you early in the game, as you were a clear threat to all non-New Earth aligned folks. Ironically, Carlos' intervention equally doomed me and you.

Well, we still don't know what actually happened with that vote (care to comment on that Peers?), I just figured it was far more logical to have the Flash with a drawback that would make him easily killed during a "Crisis" than anything else.

And yes, I was the replacement Don after Jacinb was brought down. The bummer was that I did not have any kill powers. Once theanalogkid and KaineMak were out of the game, all I could do is try staying alive to the end and hope the other Mafia did what we could not.
What threw me for a loop was the "jailkeeper" power, if such a thing exists. I am still a relative n00b, but I am learning my way around Mafia games. I also was not aware that someone could autolynch. The best part, though, was that Peers had so many twists and turns built into the scenario that it took monumental effort to figure out who was doing what to who.

Vicious.
I don't know if you already answer this , why do you don't kill me last night and choise kill Thawmus??
I knew I wasn't going to win with sooo many new earthers but I figure if I killed you there was no way I could explain that. so if I killed thawmus I could say that I killed the guy that you pointed out as possible mafia. I was hoping I could get away with "I'm Superboy of new earth" :) and with my history of killing mafia and lynching with the cops,.... plus with the joker being killed I was trying to pass off that he was the serial killer,....
with all of that I thought I could just say let me live one more nigh and lynch someone else. then I would kill biz and the next night try to pass that iron had to be the last mafia,... lynch him and kill you at the end. figure kit was nice to me so she may live :)
We talked about nighht killing kontrol 3 or 4 times.
I roleblocked Thawmus once and it went to someone else so I never tried agian. Couldn't killed you at night, & we couldn't kill you during the day.
We also talked about roleblocking Carlos that last night I was alive, that would have saved my team mates.

If Superboy Prime hadn't been outed you might have gotten away with it. But I'm guessing you had the must kill drawback like I did, that's probably what sealed your fate. Being locked away that day didn't help you either, nor did Shel protecting Carlos.

I was thinking the bigger problem was the estates of S&S coming along and suing Vicious for using the name.
One thing I'll admit to was that I thought Carlos was maybe Lady Quark - Vigilante - the night that I got killed; he had implied that he had removed one person and enjoyed it and that sounded like the "vendetta" death of Breach to me. So, I was wrong but that's why I was so protective of Carlos that evening....even wasting my power to protect him.

But if you found out I was the Joker would you have night killed me or tried to get me lynched.
Cause I'll be honest. I'm shocked that i went as long as I did without so much as an investigation into who I was.
Don't get me wrong, it helped me a great deal, but I was really surprised.
any reason why I was on your radar? besides being a serial killer? :)
When I pressured you, it was just like I said. You presented the situation as a win-win situation. Which, at that stage of the game, really wasn't how a townie would feel.
Matter of fact, I had you pegged as either being the serial killer, or the opposite mafia as charlesx.
Either one would be happy to see charlesx die, and it wouldn't matter whether it happened that day or the next.
Also, as most people have discovered over time, my lynch votes are used as a tool more than anything else. I seldomly stick to my vote until the very end, because I'm not really looking to convict anyone. And yeah, I falsify evidence a bit so that more people will pile on.
There's a few things I look for (that I won't publicize, since I'll be playing future games) that tip me off one way or the other, and it kinda depends on how much I want the pressure poured on. But in general, I can tell toward the end of the vote, whether or not we're lynching a good guy or not. You'll notice I retracted my votes against both Superman and Flash to a no vote. That usually means that I'm 100% sure they're a good guy. Not just a little sure. I wanted to make sure in both instances.
Also, when I do that, most people understand by now why I do that. So when someone finalizes a vote anyways? That's when I start making my suspect list.
I also see a sandwich board effect going on at times, which tips me off. I don't remember who it was we were about to lynch, but the votes went from 0-60 MPH in a half a second, which told me that the mafia wanted them gone. Mafia are typically more active than you think.
If it's any consolation, I'm utterly worthless to play Mafia in person with. I can't hold a straight face. I suck at Poker, too.
Well, hell! In that case, my being a n00b bit me in the rear. I didn't know I could do that! Peers, is that correct????
Your rear is bitten. I never said you couldn't have yourself kill... just that you needed to decide who did the killing. I thought you were just being careful in case you found someone who killed back... but nobody ever tried to kill IronHam...

Mafia in person is quite fun. I've played a few games with simple roles only: Doc, Cop, Mafia.
I had fun hosting full fledged Peers style mafia games in person, though.
It definately takes a labtop/notebook, numbering all players, and sometimes a dry erase board (when you make a role that has an ability that requires the host to do more than nod or point), but it is completely doable.
It was so cool watching a misdirector misdirect the doctor onto a tracker on purpose and a mafia guy into another mafia guy at random. :)
Well, no one ever tried to lynch me, or even voice any suspicion towards me at all, so I must have been doing something right while I was still alive :)

Yeah, the wonder-zarro thing came to me right after I had eaten. I was trying to figure out how he could be so off so often and drifted off into backwards logic, which lead me to a bizarro. I didn't put a lot of weight into the fact that he could have just been, you know, bluffing until a bit after that statement.

Well, you were pretty hard-nosed at the time. You seemed a little too stubborn to be a townie, so I figured I'd see if I could misdirect a mafia kill.
My bad, you're just stubborn. :p

I sat on two full phases with that information. I was hoping somebody would see it and say something. Because it was getting to that point where I could see the Mafia was going to be eliminated and SBP was going to be a real big threat.
And I didn't want to get shot by the paranoid room guy, so I preferred doing it by lynching.

yes. that will be very not good. Midnite was really important!

You're welcome. Hey, I didn't get to play either, so at least we're square in that regard. You got the ol' *is a good player, so might as well get them out of the way* treatment, I'm afraid, which is one of the only logical options the Mafia has early on.
For the record, I not only ordered your hit on the first night, but I performed it myself. And, it wasn't so much that you were a good player as it was that it seems to be something of a tradition, now, to kill you the first night. :)
That you were the leader of the rival mafia was just gravy. :cheeky:

Read up to page 110 so far, but wanted to post this so that maybe someone can comment before I get caught up.
1) What happened day 2 when I was lynched? Why the delay?
2) Everyone seems to think I didn't defend myself at all, however, I did everything I could aside from role-claiming. Given the choice again, I'd do the same. I'm not going to be the guy people know they can pressure into cracking and giving info out real easy. You want to take the chance that I'm bad? Fair enough, but if I'm not, then you're going to look like a schlub.

That's just the strategy I decided to use this game, to be honest. I needed to force someone to roleclaim that didn't have a tracker role in the beginning, so we had someone to rally behind. And I was kinda hoping you'd become that person, after you roleclaimed. Unfortunately, you only did it after the vote was maxed out.
Since you didn't do anything the first night, I figured you had a defensive power. Which meant that having you roleclaim and become a point of reference for everyone was a safe bet, especially since the mafia would have to coordinate roleblockers in order to take you out.
Again, a part I don't think you fully understood is that I don't lean on people when I think they're bad. I lean on people typically to figure out if the mafia is voting them off or not, and who's voting, and why.
You defended yourself fine. I was getting leads on people who were reading what you wrote, and ignored it. ;)
Faulty logic sends off warning bells for me, every time.
And I did retract my vote at the end, if you remember right. I knew you were a hero at that point, and I had a lead on someone else.
Which, really didn't work out, because I was about to vote for TMNT99, actually......and he was a good guy. But seriously, the stuff he was saying did not make sense at that point. I was pretty sure he was lying.

I think what happened to TMNT was that he investigated one of the Supermen, but didn't get an Earth designation. Leading him to flat out state that he knew stral wasn't Superman. At the time, we didn't know we'd have multiples of the same character. That is not until the lynch went through and stral was revealed to be Superman of New Earth. Up until then, I didn't think we'd have copies of the same character. Though I'm sure that's why one of the Mafia killed him that night. It was clear that he could investigate and find out who people were and became a target that way.
Either that or he was misdirected, the first night.
