I have the Eagles Defense in my fantasy football league. They are sort in the middle of the pack in terms of defense but I'll be rooting for them this season...at least until 11/25 when those poor bastards have to face the Patriots.

So we lost the opener, big deal. IIRC, we lost the opener the year we went to the superbowl. One loss is not the end of the season. There's still 15 more games to go.

True, but 2 of them are against the cowboys.

You guys could still go 13-3. ;)

If McNabb keeps getting hit, he will not be playing week 6 against the Jets because he will be on the injured reserves list. If he does survive the night at least his next game will be against the Jets. *Sigh* The Eagles used to be one of my favorite teams, sad to see a team play like this.

Dawkins!?! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

My favorite player has gone to a different team. Argh.

BudPalmer
03/02/2009, 13:22
Meh. At this point we're probably better off rebuilding. Trade McNabb and move on.

stark's heir
03/02/2009, 14:10
It almost seems like that's what they're doing... Letting the older players go, wait for McNabb to leave and then start fresh. Didn't he say he was gonna wait and see what the FO was gonna do in the off-season before making plans to stay in Philly?

BudPalmer
03/02/2009, 14:16
Yup. Now they can make the rebuilding look like it's all McNabb's fault. Either way it's time to move on.

Philly fans are sad. Why? Well let's look at this century:

2000: 11-5, 2nd in the East, made it to the divisional playoffs (lost to the Giants team that went to the Superbowl)

2001: 11-5, 1st in the East, made it to the conference championship (lost to the Rams team that went to the Superbowl)

2002: 12-4, 1st in the East, made it to the conference championship (lost to the Bucs team that won the Superbowl)

2003: 12-4, 1st in the East, made it to the conference championship (lost to the Panthers team that went to the Superbowl)

2004: 13-3, 1st in the NFC, made it to the Superbowl, lost to the Patriots by 3

2005: 6-10, sucked

2006: 10-6, 1st in the East, made it to the divisional playoffs

2007: 8-8, mediocre

2008: 9-6, 2nd in the East, made it to the conference championship (lost to the Cardinals team that went to the Superbowl)

Seriously, how many fans of how many other teams would pay hard cash/kill/sell relatives for that kind of success? Rebuild? When you have a QB that takes you deep into the playoffs on a consistent basis? I honestly don't know how McNabb can stand to be there.

BudPalmer
03/02/2009, 20:35
Great! The current Eagles are a lot like the Bills form the early 90's. Oh, except they only lost one Super Bowl. I guess it could be worse. Rejoice, Philly. :noid:

Milo Garret
03/03/2009, 11:19
I never thought they needed to completely rebuild. They just needed to fix some trouble spots. Like the post above, the last 7-8 years have been great compared to other teams runs over the same time frame. I'm not taking their accomplishments for granted. Sure a Super Bowl win would be nice, but I'm still happy. I wish Dawkins could have stayed an Eagle through his whole career. When looking at areas they needed to improve, he was not on the list.

This doesn't help... I grew in the Philly area and know that nothing short of a SB win will satisfy the fans (and even then, only until the next game...).

Ricky Bobby should have been from Philly - "If you're not 1st, you're last."

More Eagles news:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3965039

A Facebook post criticizing his employer, the Philadelphia Eagles, cost a stadium operations worker his job, according to a story in Monday's Philadelphia Inquirer.

SportsNation
Were the Eagles justified in firing Dan Leone for his critical Facebook status update?
Yes
No

Dan Leone, who the Inquirer said worked as a west gate chief, was unhappy the team let Brian Dawkins sign with the Denver Broncos in free agency. According to the newspaper, Leone posted the following on his Facebook page: "Dan is [expletive] devastated about Dawkins signing with Denver ... Dam Eagles R Retarted!!"

Despite deleting the comment, Leone told the Inquirer the Eagles fired him by phone days later.

"I shouldn't have put it up there," Leone said, according to the Inquirer. "I was ticked off, and I let my emotions go, but I didn't offend any one person or target a specific individual. I was just upset that we lost such a great guy. Dawkins was one of my favorite players. I made a mistake."

Leone said he was shocked to lose his job of six years.

"I apologized for it," Leone said, according to the paper. "I apologized 20 million times. I never bad-mouthed the organization before. I made one mistake and they terminate me? And they couldn't even bring me into the office to talk to me? They had to do it over the phone? At least look me in the eye. To get done dirty like this, I can't believe it. I'm devastated."

The Eagles confirmed that Leone was a part-time staff member, but didn't comment further.
