the EAGLES are releasing a new album at the end of october, entitled
"Long Road out of Eden" with the regular lineup: Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit!

well, californication is a great album/song, with some great (other) tracks on it...it's just that it's from RHCP....

on a side note, this is the first post to be entered into the new-fangled music section!

And thus the problem of having the same musical tastes as my parents arises: do I ask for this for Christmas, do I get it for my dad (huge Walsh-o-phile, much like myself), or do I get it for my mom (a fan of the Eagles in general, much like myself)?

One of the Eagles Greatest Hits albums is the Best Selling American album of all time.

Not really related: I'm pretty sure we have three Doobie Brothers Greatest Hits CDs floating around, but that actually was a mistake (Dad forgot he'd already bought it...twice).

Related to the not related: Somehow, my brother, my sister, and myself each ended up with a copy of Flogging Molly's "Swagger."

Not related to the not related: My family might find that less amusing than I do. Depending on when the new Bruce Springsteen Album is coming out, I could always get that for my dad and the Eagles for my mom.

Should it be the cause of some concern that I have the musical tastes of a comparatively old person?

I'd say no, but I always end up sharing my Leonard Cohen, Loreena McKennitt and Johnny Cash CDs with my mother...so I can identify with your situation.

It's a bad idea to loan CD's to family. I let my dad keep Clapton: Unplugged and Joe Walsh's Greatest Hits in his car to listen to on the way to work while I was home for the summer. I don't think I'm ever going to see either of them ever again. :( :laugh:

And Ill be voting for it over much of the list, Im sure. :) I really like all of The Eagles music, and think The Long Run and Hotel California are two really great albums, both of them easily in my collection.

So hasn't anybody picked up the new one yet? Apparently I would have to do some Wal-Mart shopping if I want one. I haven't heard anything to justify that yet.

I was listening to Long Road out of Eden and portions of it lyrically kept bringing AC/DC's Hells Bells to mind.

The song was all Eagles, but I couldn't shake the connection.

Well, I have had a couple of listens to Long Road Out of Eden, if you are an Eagles fan, or one who liked Hotel California (but not heard any other Eagles stuff apart from the singles), you will like it.

I put it in the same league as HC, overall not quite as earth shattering, but listenable. I like the title track and a couple of others, for me it rates a 2.5 out of 5.

Well, through dumb luck I heard a track released as a single this morning as I drove my daughter to school this morning. I forgot the name of it but I wasn't impressed.

I would say that the longer tracks on LROoE are the better ones. From reading a magazine review most of the short ones (under 4 mins) are samplers to show off the individual members.
