I started listening to Dethklok after seeing the show, and was wondering...
What are some other good death metal bands you guys like?

If I were you, I'd check out this (http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/showthread.php?t=188356) thread. We recently got player group status, so if you want to, you can jion the most brutal clan alive. Not only do we discuss all things Dethklok, we constantly talk about other bands that we listen to, so that would be a pretty good list for you.

I don't know. A lot of the stuff we talk about tends to eaither lean towards standard Heavy Metal or Power Metal.

Well, I admit my "metal tastes" tend to be a little on the older side and thus pretty light compared by today's standards. Still, I'l give an example though of my "Winchester Black" (i.e. - songs I relate to "Supernatural") playlist:
*Renegade - Styx
*House of the Rising Sun - The Animals (not metal but worth a listen)
*Back in Black - AC/DC
*Carry on Wayward Son - Kansas (pretty "soft metal" comparatively)
*Fight the Good Fight - Triumph
*Highway to Hell - AC/DC & Quiet Riot
*Rock You Like a Hurricane - The Scorpions
*Enter Sandman - Metallica
*Unforgiven - Metallica
*Don't Fear the Reaper - Blue Oyster Cult
*Rock of Ages - Def Leppard
*No One Like You - Scorpions
*Gypsy Road - Cinderella
*Wheel in the Sky - Journey
*Bad Moon Rising - Creedence Clearwater Revival (not metal but good)
*What a Wonderful World - Joey Ramone
*Ghost Riders in the Sky - Spiderbait
*Crazy Train - Ozzy
*Road to Nowhere - Ozzy
*Hair of the Dog - Nazareth
*Easier to Run - Linkin Park (not really metal by most standards, I admit)
*Cold as Ice - Foreigner
*Speaking in Tongues - Eagles of Death
Like I said, fairly light by current metal standards - definitely not modern death metal - but not a bad batch to learn the "classics". :)

Definately agree! Sometimes Metallica and Black Sabbath are the best stuff out there! Now, if we're talking more moddern, Korn and Godsmack for me all the way!!!!

Although many people like the Black Album from Metallica, It's when they started slowing down and eventually led to St. Anger.
Metallica was better when they put out:
Kill 'Em All
Ride the Lightning
Master of Puppets
...And Justice For All

White Zombie has always been my favorite band of all time.
others on my list are Pantera, Slayer, the Genitorturers, Megadeth (pre-youthanasia), sepultura, anthrax, motorhead, and more.
not all are strictly death metal, but they all kick arse.
The Genitorturers are especially underappreciated.

Get Linkin Park and the Scorpions the Hell away from me!
Hey! Look at this! We've got a 'metal' sub forum under Rock Music! Go realms. :)

And that's why metal should be it's own forum. It sticks out. :p
Anyway, a great death metal "intro" band is Opeth. They're a great band to be sure, but they're lighter on the growls, so check 'em out.
Cannibal Corpse and Dark Tranquility are great too.

Mikael Åkerfeldt, the singer for Opeth, is the voice of Fear on Ayreon - The Human Equation. Check it out if you like Pink Floyd-esque music.

It's a him. Arjen Anthony Lucassen is the guy's name. He's pretty much a solo act with a backup band of metal greats that is different every album.

Yeah, but Ayreon is a project in which a group of people is brought together, so I think Ayreon is a "they".

Yeah, but Ayreon is a project in which a group of people is brought together, so I think Ayreon is a "they". Except for the fact that Arjen writes 90% or more of what goes onto an album and that the "they" changes every album.

The band is still a band comprised of many people. It doesn't matter if it changes or who writes what.

The band is still a band comprised of many people. It doesn't matter if it changes or who writes what. Ok, let's see what Metal Archives has to say: http://www.metal-archives.com/band.php?id=1427 Current Line-up: Arjen Anthony Lucassen - Vocals, Guitars, Bass, Keyboards (Within Temptation (Guest), ex-Ambeon, Bodine, Erik Norlander, Freak Neil Inc., guest for Galexia, Ian Parry, Star One, Stream of Passion, ex-Vengeance (Hol), Space Mirrors (Guest)) Former/Past Members: See albums for guest musicians Additional Notes: All albums feature a variety of guest vocalists and musicians Arjen's side projects include Ambeon, Star One, Strange Hobby and lots of others. Edit: The reason I had to split it up is for some reason is was all bunching up even though I had put spaces in.

I actually work at a metal record store, so I'm asked this question a lot. Without hesitation, I always direct the curious to the following records, since I think they're great entry-level introductions to some of the greats:
Repulsion - Horrified (good intro to the roots of death metal)
Possessed - Seven Churches (see above)
Death - Symbolic
At the Gates - Slaughter of the Soul
Entombed - Left Hand Path
Carcass - Heartwork
Bolt Thrower - Realm of Chaos
Dismember - Like An Ever Flowing Stream
Dissection - Storm of the Light's Bane (straddles the line between death and black metal)
I'm not really into very much modern death metal, but current bands I really dig are Portal, Angelcorpse, County Medical Examiners and Amon Amarth.
Hope this helps!
