This is totally freaking awesome!
So How about Anderson's 10 RBI game, or The Rangers 30 runs, or Jenks one strike away from the record, or Webb losing his scoreless streak.
Wow a lots happened in baseball these past few weeks!
This is so awesome ,thanks Typhon!!
Yeah, 30-3. That's a football score. Even more surprising though is that the Dodgers scored 15 runs today! I'm glad that GA had a break-out game. He's been due for some time.
This has been a good season so far. A bunch of milestones being reached. No huge lead in any one division.

Nice call! I realized it a second later and added it.
And yea, I'm rooting for Griffey. And maybe Sheffield can hit 30 homers in the next 50 games and get to 500 ;)
Though Manny and Thome have a chance at 500.
This has been a huge year in baseball. Wow.

Man, there's been a lot of history in MLB this year. As much as I rag on Bonds, I'm glad I was able to see 756 in real time. It was special for me regardless of my personal feelings towards the guy.
The pennant races are really heating up. There's still a lot of questions to be answered; such as: Will the Yankees make the playoffs? Who will win the NL Central? Can the Mariners keep up their winning ways?
Only time will tell!!!

How can he forget Mark Buehrle's No-hitter? As well as any no-hitters, but come on; with me as a mod, and you forget the Buehrle-mon?
;)

I was at that game ... god did that hurt me in the nuts a little.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Passing Cy Young didn't faze Greg Maddux. Moving ahead of his older brother was a bit more exciting.
Maddux became the first pitcher to win 10 games in 20 consecutive seasons, tossing seven solid innings in the San Diego Padres' 14-3 rout of the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night.
Maddux (10-9) allowed three runs and seven hits, outpitching Jamie Moyer in a matchup of 40-something hurlers with a combined 570 wins.
Cy Young had 19 straight seasons with double-digit wins from 1891-1909. Maddux is tied with Nolan Ryan for second behind Don Sutton for most seasons with 10 wins. Sutton had 21.
How about surpassing Mike Maddux on San Diego's all-time list for wins? Mike had nine wins for the Padres in 1991-92

Cool stuff, konmel. Maddux is a lock for the Hall of Fame when he retires.
How 'bout Micah Owings? Another homer tonight. Maybe he can pull a Rick Ankiel, and transform himself into a position player.

Maddux also in "rare air" with being the only pitcher to record 10+ wins in TWENTY STRAIGHT YEARS. Good GAWD, I hadn't even met my wife yet when Maddux started that run.

I was three years old when the Mad Dog started the streak... Man, that puts it into perspective.
Side Note: I'm watching the Chi Sox game on TV. I'm sorry, Front, but that was the most painful game I've seen in a long time. Well, Paulie K just hit a two run home run to put the Chi Sox on the board. Hey, it's only 13-2 now...

All I can say in response to the White Sox season.
Errm,
"SEPTEMBER 6TH the 2007 NFL SEASON GETS UNDER WAY!!! OOOAAH!!!!"
So I had the Dodger-Mets game on and they show the score of Boston-Chicago. Dang, the Red Sox scored over 30 runs in 3 games against them. The announcers then said that the White Sox had the second worst record in baseball. I couldn't believe that and had to look it up. What happened?

We have an awful bullpen, about a 1/3rd of the team has gone on the DL, and we can't buy a win. (I tried. The Red Sox GM hung up on me when he heard my offer of my extra Heroclix and WWE Raw Deal cards.)

Some things I found surprising today:
-Velverde is leading the MLB in saves.
-Mike Lowell has 92 RBI's.
-Travis Hafner is hitting .252 and only has eighteen homers.
-Tim Wakefield is tied for the most wins in the league.
-Tim Hudson has more wins than any other NL pitcher.
-J.J. Putz is the man. Period.
-Magglio Ordonez is leading the league in BA.
-The St. Louis Cardinals are only three games back in the NL Central.
-The Boston Red Sox is the only team that has a winning percentage of over .600
-The Chicago White Sox have a worse record than the Kansas City Royals.

Really? Well, if you ever decide to change that, all you need to do is walk into any gaming store and say "I need the C/U/R from Avengers. Anyone have extras?" Then duck from the barrage that will head your way.
THEN you can try bribing the Red Sox manager with 'em...though I hear he has five sets already.

Another interesting tidbit (sorry frontman):
The Red Sox outscored the Chicago White Sox 46-7 in the 4 game series. Boston scored at least 10 runs in each game, only the fourth time that has happened in a four-game series since 1900, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. It's the first time it has happened in the American League in 85 years.
The St. Louis Browns did it in 1920 and 1922, and the Colorado Rockies in 1996. Boston's run total in the series was the most for the franchise since it scored the same amount against the Browns in 1949.

So how many no-hitters have been thrown this year? At least 3 that I can think of.
The most recent one by Clay Buchholz holds some interesting tidbits:
Buchholz (2-0) became the 21st rookie to throw a no-hitter since 1900. He was the third pitcher since 1900 to throw a no-hitter in his first or second major league start, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. Bobo Hollomon did it in his first start on May 6, 1953, for the St. Louis Browns at home against the Philadelphia Athletics, and Wilson Alvarez did it in his second start on Aug. 11, 1991, for the Chicago White Sox at Baltimore.

The three I can think of is
Mark Buehrle's No-hitter in April
Justin Verlander was May/June
Then Buchholz's last night.
I just loved that moment. While I'm FAR from ever being a Red Sox fan, I enjoy the thrill and the moments of great sports. And that kid's performance last night was awesome to see. And the end of the game, with Big Papi just bearhugging that kid with all the players ruffling his hair; that was awesome.

And I finally managed to watch a no-hitter from start to finish. Both times a Sox pitcher threw one in recent years (Nomo and Lowe), I turned the game on in the 2nd or 3rd inning. It was amazing to see him using guile through the game, as opposed to blowing people away. Amazing composure for such a young kid. It was pretty refreshing to see his press conference afterward as he was quite humble and unassuming. I'm so accustomed to seeing the "Look at Me" type of player nowadays that it's nice to see someone truly speechless as to how to explain an unbelievable night.
And it was probably lucky for him to have Big Papi holding him during that scrum; it more than likely allowed him to avoid some of the roughness.

He looked like the kid that he is, with Ortiz being the Dad as it were. The kid felt safe and all was great in his world with his team loving him. That was just incredible.
I think back to Buehrle's no-no in April, and I smile. He was struggling to start the season, usually getting shelled in inning one. That game, 90 seconds after the umpire signals "play ball," Buehrle was out of the first, pointing with point hands upwards like "finally." He's a kid we just love in Chicago, and the team rose up to make some great plays to keep it intact, especially Joe Crede. With a bum back, he was diving after balls and just playing in my opinion, one of his best games. We sat on the edge of our seats the whole game, and that final out was just great. Hawk Harrelson was at his best on the call as well. "Ground ball.......CREDEEEEE.......YEEEEEEEESSSSSS! MARK BUEHRLE, A NO-HITTER!!!!"
With the coming of the fall, and my Sox out of it, I will always have that incredible game as a fond memory for the season. That, and Bobby Jenks doing what only one other man has done, with 41 consecutive batters faced for outs; we did have some fun this season.
As I said in another post at another site, its these moments that define "Sports Glory." It's something that 10-15 years later, we'll sit with family and friends and recount how Mark Buehrle/Justin Verlander/Clay Buchholz just were on fire that game. Where we watched it, were we there at the game, or at home on the couch? And even though I may only remember 2007 as a losing season, I'll remember April 18th, 2007 as a special game.
A couple more milestones this season:
Pedro Martinez got his 3000 strikeout, becoming the 15th player to do so.
Ichiro Suzuki got his 200th hit this season, tying the AL record for consecutive 200 hit seasons with Wade Boggs at 7. The major league record is 8 set by Willie Keeler.

John Lester is the best story in baseball this year.
I've been hearing a lot of debate about who should win the AL Cy Young award. There a lot of good nominee with Beckett, Escobar, Lackey, Wang, Santana, Haren, and the like. But if you ask me, there's no doubt who should win: C.C. Sabathia. Guy has been crazy good this year. I would just like to hear all of your opinion's.

Ummm....
IMO, it's amazing that he came back. But there are thousands of people who do the same thing every day, and they don't receive our praise, attention, donations etc.
Just because this one man puts on a Red Sox uniform, does that mean his disease was any more sireous than thousands of others. I think its great that he came back, but what about Mike Lowell, he had testicular cancer, and he wasn't welcomed back with open arms.....
He's a great story, and hopefully he appreciates the second chance he's been given. I'm extatic for him, and I'm a die hard Yankee fan who hates all thing s Red Sox ;)
As a pitcher though... he's definately not Cy Young material. He's not very good. In his career hes won a LOT, but he always has a whale whip, and big ERA. Maybe comeback player of the year, but he has to contend with players like Rowand, and Ankiel......

Uh, I don't think Charaxes was hyping Lester for the Cy Young. It looks to me like he had to separate comments there. One was following up my post about Lester, and the second was asking for input as to who we (the Realms) felt was deserving of the AL Cy Young Award. As such, he offered C.C. Sabathia.
My first instinct was to say Lackey deserves it at this point. But then I decided to look at the stats. And looking at them overall, I think it's neck and neck with Beckett and Sabathia. Beckett had another good game today to match Sabathia's outing the other day.
It's still up in the air at this point, I'd say. All the major contenders, except for Haren, are still in the thick of the playoff races. Each of their starts down the road will be important to their teams and I'm of the opinion that that should factor into the final decision.
All I know for sure is that I'm enjoying all the races so far and the playoffs are looking to be interesting to say the least.

At this point, I'd also have to say C.C. has the edge. But as mentioned, there are several pitchers in contention and with a few weeks left, it's still open. One could even argue that J.J. Putz has a legitimate shot.

IMHO he only has a shot if the Mariner's make the WS. He's a great Reliever, but that's normally not enough to win it. He needs a little edge, like a WS, to push him over the top.

Yeah. It was two seperate thoughts. 1) It's nice to see that Lester is back and doing well, and 2) Wow. Sabathia had another great outing today. Think he might win the Cy Young?
I was talking with some friends of mine who should win eariler in the night, and I came in here to see what everyone else was thinking. Then I saw the post about Lester, so I threw in my two cents before making my orginal point.
Thome just hit #499 so we almost have another to add to the list. What a year.
CHICAGO (AP) -- Jim Thome hit his 500th homer, a two-run shot in the bottom of the ninth inning that gave the Chicago White Sox a 9-7 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday.
Thome became the 23rd player in major league history and third this season to reach 500 homers when he drove a 3-2 pitch from reliever Dustin Moseley to left-center, ending an 0-for-11 slump.

But they traded Valverde for Dan Qualls. WTF?
I like Detroit this year personally. Acquiring Willis, Cabrera, and Renteria... scary.
Listen to this projected lineup: Casey at first base (granted the sign him back as a free agent), Polanco at second, Renteria at short, Cabrera at third, Ordonez, Jacque Jones, and Granderson in the outfield, with Sheffield at DH, and Pudge Rodriguez behind the plate. Not to mention having a starting rotation of Willis, Verlander, Rodgers, and Bonderman. Plus a bullpin with Todd Jones and Joel Zumaya. They will also still have Carlos Guillen, Brandon Inge, and Thames to come off the bench.
I can foresee a Arizona/Detroit World Series.
