Seriously, metal is it's own genre. And considering it part of "rock" is a slap in the face to all metalheads.

You may now discuss.

Why don't you tell me the difference between Metal and Rock ... so we all know. :)

Metal's sound is very distinct from just basic rock music. Metal tends to be much faster, has much more technical guitar work (listen to any Yngwie Malmsteen or Dragonforce and try to tell me different) and has themes ranging from "high fantasy" to the 80s "Nothing but a good time" feel to very taboo themes of torture, rape, wholesale genocide, etc.

Actually, now that I think about it, there actually isn't any "true" Rock anymore. Eevrything is split into a sub genre. Many sub genres have sub genres themselves. So by just making a "Rock" board, you're lumping many different genres (which, by the way, many fans of which don't get along at all.) into one group, and that isn't fair at all to fans of the "main" genres.

So you want 10 sub forums just for rock?

It's fine the way it is

No, it isn't.

Do you want to see the punk fans trolling the Metal topics all the time? Or how about the emo kids getting ganged up on by the alternative and the metalheads? It is better to just seperate them to avoid the headaches rather than deal with people #####ing and whining because their favorite kind of music is mocked.

We started small... but will definitely open it up. :) I know what metal is though; I used to listen to Danzig, Slayer, Pantera, etc in high school. :) And I agree ... it should be its own area.

Honestly, you could drop the "Rock" board and add these in their place:

Classic Rock (Eagles, Steve Millar Band, Bad Company, etc.)
Metal (Iron Maiden, Anthrax, Slayer, etc)
Punk (Bad Religion, Rancid, The Distillers, etc) (possibly with an "Emo" sub board since emo came from an amagimation of punk and goth)
Alternative (Nirvana, Flaming Lips, Butthole Surfers, etc)

I definitely vote for a Metal board. It's far separated from Rock. Example:

Metal (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTpQOZcNASw&mode=related&search=)

Rock (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2M6yV6mueg)

Punk needs it's own too.

Alternative?

I thought Alternative was for people like Bjork, Regina Spektor, Joanna Newsom etc?

I have no idea what Alt. Rock is.

Metal had been added. We'll wait on the other ones until this area gets traction. Some people get scared when there's too many options to post under. :)

Alternative Rock (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alternative_Rock)

Grunge wasn't really a genre as much as it was a mass marketing buzzword. The music that was part of the "Grunge movement" was actually either Metal (Alice In Chains) or Alt. Rock (Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden).

...you're lumping many different genres (which, by the way, many fans of which don't get along at all.)No, it isn't.How do you even know? The forum is 3 hours old. Plus, I get along fine with metal heads, alternateens, punk rockers and classic rockers. Just because you can't tollerate people with other tastes doesn't mean the feeling extends to everyone.

I'd like to keep the forums as is, and see how it vets out. It won't be very sucessful if we split every genre out into a dozen sub genres.

You want to see how it doesn't work? Go look at any music forum or at GameFAQs for why it all seperated.

Bah, just have "Music" without any sub-forums and people could throw threads in all at once, like HeroClix General Discussion! ;)

It's considered Prog Rock with an Emo twist to it, so it would be under Rock.

I vote we put in a "Mess with Dark Flash Genre-wise" subforum.

Just kidding, DF.
