Why not kick off this board with a [hopefully] long running thread. The idea is simple: Post a link to a streaming song that you love or hate [or somewhere inbetween] and then comment on other songs people post. The idea of the thread is to find new music and promote discussion. You must comment on a song if you post one of your own. Feel free to give background on what you post, why you're posting it or whatever else you want to say. Maybe this'll go over, or maybe the inaugural post will be it's swan song. Lets find out!

Joanna Newsom - Peach, Plum, Pear (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sV1a6UBdrPk)

Joanna Newsom is one of my favorite artists (enough for me to find some neato artwork and make it into an icon anyway), and this is one of my favorite songs by her. She's an incredible lyricist, and a darn good harpist(harper?) too. Her voice is somewhat of an acquired taste, so don't fully expect to love it right off the bat, but trust me, she's awesome. I hear people compare her to Bjork, but I don't entirely see it.

Enhanced text for the blind:

Love Joanna Newsom. I only have a couple of tracks off The Milk-Eyed Mender, but I have all of YS. As a MASSIVE Bjork fan, the comparison is really only their unusal voices and interesting song structure.

My song is Earth Intruders - Bjork (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wioa74MsBYA).

This is the lead single from her current album Volta. Very tribal and dancey, it was co-produced by Timbaland, who seems to be in very high emand at the moment.

I love it.

Wow I didn't think it was even possible to rock the harp, Joanna Newsom is fantastic. I also really like Earth Intruders; I wasn't thrilled by Bjork's last two albums, but this one is very cool.

I can guarantee that if you haven't heard her you will both love Feist, one of canada's best.

Dragonette - "Take It Like a Man"

I don't know whether the video for this song is too sexual or not (its heavy implication, but no actual explicit content), but search it on Youtube.

I love it, and its the first ever single I've gone to the shops and bought.

Bjork rubbed me just like every other Bjork song I've heard: Not bad, but musically was sort of bland. I'm sure that'd change the more I listened to her (as it already has), but right now I can't say I love her. I liked the video a lot, though.

Feist was pretty good. I'm not going to say fantastic, but pretty good. It seemed sort of monotonous to me, but maybe that changes with other songs. I'll check out some more later.

Porcupine Tree - Piano Lessons (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CvxoeasJ2E&mode=related&search=)

It's cut down by about a minute, but still a good song. An older PT song with nice elements of psychedelic and rock. I love the video, too.

I was going to post Russia on Ice, but it's 9 minutes and I didn't think anyone would want to listen to a foreign band for that long for the first time. :p

Edit: And yes, please comment on at least one other posted song if you plan to post one of your own. Feel free to discuss without posting songs, but if you do post one at least give your feelings on another.

This is another of her songs I really love, and is regarded as superior to the album version.

It's In Our Hands (Live) - Bjork (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9EmCfRhlwp0)

The albums Vespertine and Homogenic are both so meticulously created it's amazing.

Porcupine Tree sounds kinda cool actually. Love the video.

I had a feeling that comment would ignite flames. Her music just doesn't "pop" to me. I don't get the sense that I'm listening to something special or magical. I get the feeling that she's trying to tell me something, but in a "listen to me because I'm right, you fool" kind of way. Maybe she'll grow on me more, who knows? In any event, I appreciate you posting her music, and on this thread. Thanks.

As far as Coheed and Cambria goes, I've never been a fan. Something about it screams boring. They remind me of bands like Taking Back Sunday and OK Go. I hate to use the word again, but they feel "bland" to me. Perhaps I need to listen to more.

And now I'm going to post one of my favorite songs. It's very sad and very emotional, and musically it's very strange. In case the fan-made video doesn't tip you off, the song is about Anne Frank.

Bjork's whole bag is changing her sound each album; Vespertine is almost classical, and Medulla is like crazy beat-boxing and voice technics. She's an acquired taste, but you're missing out if you just write her off.

The metal isn't my thing, sorry but it bores me, Buckethead is a good guitarist but that is all he is, and the other band was just a bit too hard rock of the 80's.

Poster of A Girl is one of my favourite Metric tunes, it just has a very cool feel to it. I have never heard of Neutral Milk Hotel before but they are outstanding this is a very good song.

Here's another Canadian for you:

My song for today is Supervixen by Garbage. It's got the coolest song title ever (excluding funnies like Joanna Newsom/P!atD), and I love it. It should have been a single.

The video is fanmade, but very well done.

Garbage always rubbed me as the type of band that tried to look dangerous and edgy, but their music was mainstream and poppy. Kind of like Marilyn Manson or Korn. In any event, though, that song is good. I really like the mash up of videos too. Some great imagery.

Tonight lets go for another Joanna Newsom song, but this time with a band to back her up. On the album (titled Ys. It's excellent) it's backed up by an orchestra, but I think I like this live version better.

I like Garbage's album Bleed Like Me the most, because it is the most rocky.

I don't really like their pop period. They tried to be a rock band, but produced pop, which doesn't work that well.

I recommend either their debut, "Garbage" (which is amazing for a debut album) or "Bleed Like Me", their 4th album.

I would post a video, but youtube doesn't seem to be working for me.

Go search "Ghost Of Corporate Future" by Regina Spektor, it's my favourite song.

Good grief - did she run out of Banshees to psychically devour and finally turn on Budgie? I mean, I know they got a divorce and all, but I figured that he'd at least get a drumming credit on the album. Gotta say, though, whoever's soul she consumed, it did the trick. No way does the woman in that video look like she's 50. And I kind of dig the sound. A definite move away from the poppy stuff of the later Banshees and the plink-plonk techno beats of the recent Creatures.

I offer Hope There's Someone (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbA0RmHD7RY) by Antony and the Johnsons. If you're not familiar with the band, their lead vocalist is Nina Simone reincarnated as a pale white kid.

The Cribs - "Men's Needs" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCNTYi9fHuo)

This is megadriver's cover of Ken Masters' theme song from street fighter II. It is bad ###. They also do a mean cover of Guile's theme as well.

I love.

No I hate how I got the less fun single. Though in a few years time it'll be worth more.

I actually thought that Mr.Brightside was crazed inclusion in the show, not a B-Side. It might be on itunes. I need.

Bleeding Love - Leona Lewis (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sF84pIhP5UM)

Love her voice, and this song. It's just so good. It'll be no.1, and i'll hate after it's overplayed, but still.

the greatest song ever recorded, covered by Alanis Morrisette (and she does a decent job of singing it too).

I actually thought that was a pretty good cover, Len. I don't tend to like Alanis (though that My Humps cover was fantastic), but I could listen to that.

Glasgow Kiss (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t25AOSxZZkI) - John Petrucci

Note: Might be sort of long for some (8 minutes) but it's good. It's an instrumental too.

Sorry Pash I forgot to give feedback before my last post, so here it goes.

I have never heard of Leona Lewis before and sorry but I didn't like her one bit. Way too much like generic R&B singers 1 through 74.

Speaking of which, did anyone see Shakira at that Al Gore thing, she wore a guitar for like 15 minutes and then right at the end, she strummed it once. Who was she fooling, "hey guys look I play an instrument," no you don't now show off your belly to distract us from your muppet voice.

Sorry, but I was watching this stuff on You Tube yesterday and speaking of generic R & B/Pop reminded me.

I did get a C at GCSE Maths, y'know.

Siouxsie is my favourite "old" band. I might disocver some amazing new one someday.

Alanis is like my 3rd top played on last.fm.

Beatles aren't even on my 5,000 + iTunes library, except for a Blondie (I love) vs. beatles mash-up.

KT Tunstall's new video - Saving My Face (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40nikSValak)

Quite a cool video, I love the bit where the guitar comes together after all the components unite.

Sorry ABF but KT does nothing for me, it is just a bit to radio blues for my liking.

Check out this awesome song by a very cool unknown British girl, I guarantee you will dig it the most.
