Oh trust me, I'd love a golf subforum, but let's get some talk about it first.

Anyone else giggle when they say "deuche bank" for this weekend's tourney?

;)

Yeah, it is one of the more funny names for a tournament (and a bank).

So what do people think of this new Golf Championship -- the Fed Ex Cup? First 144 made the cut. Then it was 70. Aren"t there two more events? The last one only has thirty players -- right?

That's correct. However, that's not the top 70 for that previous tournament, its the top 70 for the whole year, then the top 30. That's why guys like Tiger and Phil can skip a week and still make it to the finals.

Some complain about that aspect of it, I don't mind it. The PGA never has required attendance for a player, nor should it.

Granted, since the BMW will be at Coghill in Lemont, IL (just down the road from my town, plus the home of a certain White Sox left handed pitcher.....) I'd like it if everyone would play, but that's not up to me.

Any word if Phil is playing? I heard he might not. Yeah, it's kind of weird that Tiger missed the first event and only fell from first to fourth and Choi missed the recent one and only fell a few spots.

For the last event though, the one with the top 30 players of the year, are the points reset so any one of the 30 can win, or is it still based on the points, so only a few have a real shot at it.

Do they still do the 1 on 1, single elimination tournament?

Phil is sitting this one out. I don't blame him.

Ah golf ... I wish I had more time to play, and the green fees weren't so high. It's such a high investment to get going again, but I will say that I've enjoyed it every time I played.

as for a golf area ... the more conversation/threads start about it .. the better the odds of it having it's own area.

Well, to be in the sports section, it would have to be a sport.

Here I paraphrase Denis Leary and say that if you can drink and smoke while doing it, it's not a sport.
Also, sports are played by athletes... I defy anybody to categorize John Daly as an athlete.

For the record, I'm kidding here - Daly is my friggin' hero, and the only guy who makes pro golf actually look fun imo. :p

i was at a pro-am and saw daly hit a ball off a tee he put into the green of one hole over a pond and onto the green of another hole with his putter. i'd have to say he hit his putter 200 yards...

For every John Daly, there is a Prince Fielder.

Or a CC Sabathia.

Since they just played Coghill this weekend, two years ago, Tiger drove a ball a good 380+ yards to the fringe of a green on a par 4 dogleg left at Coghill. I never saw a shot like it, ever.
