Who's your favorite drummers? We have a thread for guitarists, but who are your favorite rock and roll drummers? Or maybe you want to tell us what was the best drum solo you've ever seen live. I've been to a lot of concerts and seen many of the greats, but 1973, Nassau Collisseum on Long Island and I witnessed John Bonham of Led Zeppelin. The man had a few things needed to play rock music: feel, timing, an animal sense of rhythms and the man was powerful. He could hit a tom or a snare and you felt it in your chest.

RIP John Bonham

Luckily, Neil Peart is still alive. Bonham was great though and is missed.

I don't pay as much attention to drummers that I do guitarists, but John Bonham is a good choice. You gotta give props to Def Leppard's drummer for carrying on despite losing his arm. The only other drummers I can honestly name off the top of my head, are Keith Moon, Ringo Starr and Charlie Watts.

I love drummers but I hate a drum solo...Yuk. Sorry.

Anyway; Keith Moon, Stuart Copeland, and David Grohl must get mention here.

Cindy Blackman...she is actually a solo artist. I know her because once upon a time she jammed with Buckethead. And as one may note from the guitarist thread, I like Buckethead.

Cindy Blackman. A guy I know, replaced her about five years ago and then he was replaced by Cindy about a year after that.

Moon the Loon and Ginger Baker are two of mine. The quest to find Ginger Baker's Airforce in stores has been something of a joke between myself and my brother for some time. The closest we ever came was when I found Ginger Baker Trio: Going Back Home one time.

My older brother really likes Ian Paice from Deep Purple.

Benny Benjamin, originator of the Motown sound.

(I just watched Standing in the Shadows of Motown and recommend giving props to the Funk Brothers at all times).

Also, Dave Abbruzese was pretty damn good for the second and third Pearl Jam records.

If you like giving props to the funk brothers, lets give some props to Jabo Starks and Clyde Stubblefield; two guys hwo between them defined what funk was.

Love the funk, be the funk.

I gotta go with the Thunder God John Bonham on this one, though I have to say Ginger Baker and Neal Pert are awesome in their own right.

John Bonham could still out-drum a room of dummers using bongos and his pinky.

Danny Carey from Tool, Jason Bittner from Shadows Fall and Brann Dailor from Mastodon

There are a ton that haven't been mentioned yet. What about guys like Eric Singer and Kenny Aronoff? When the Pumpkins fired their drummer in the middle of their tour, they called on Kenny to replace him and he did it to a tee and even played the SNL gig without missing a beat (no pun...). That's playing drums and being able to do it on super short notice.

Kenny Aronoff was the guy who replaced Chamberlin (another fav) when he was all hopped up on heroin? I never knew.

Oh yea, I guess I'll add Jojo Mayer to this list of amazing drummers, and Carter Beuford (however you spell it, the guy from Dave Matthews)

John Bonham and Keith Moon are definitely two of the very best ever. Meg White is a personal favorite for me.
