View Full Version : Wii: Metroid Prime 3
So, I picked it up today. Turns out the game is pretty darn good.
Right now it feels more like an older shooter, but I have yet to get to an open planet where I can explore more freely. It looks like a high end Gamecube games, but there are a lot of nice little graphical touches to enhance that. The controls are taking a bit of time to get used to, though that mostly has to do with how my hand always tilts when I hold my Wiimote. I'm slowly adjusting and getting the hang of it though. I'm sure I'll have it down when the real game starts up.
The mini-achievement system is pretty cool, but without knowing anyone else who has the game, I have no one to trade with for a certain type of token. Whoever gets this game first needs to give me their friend code! Also, a little bonus for anyone who already has my code, turns out the minimal support means you can use the friend code that's already linked to your console so you don't need to register a new one. I'm considering sending a token voucher to anyone who would like to be taunted with not having the game yet...
Overall, I've just begun but it's a promising start. Anyone else get their hands on this game?

Unfortunately, we Brits won't be getting it for a months or two yet. I'm glad it sounds as good as the reviews say, since I'll be picking up a copy near release.

I find myself getting lost a lot, although it was a lot less than Metroid Prime 1 and Metroid Prime 2. I HAD to have a walkthrough for those games.
I don't absolutely have to for Metroid Prime 3.
I love how Samus looks once she gets her hypermode upgrade.
I haven't quite had any trouble getting lost yet, though I'm sure I'll eventually hit a puzzle that'll have me scratching my head. The bosses have been a bit surprising. I expected a challenge, but these fights are just arduous. I think the first boss took me half an hour to take down. Thankfully the fights have been pretty enjoyable so far though, nothing terribly unfair just yet.

Really? I beat him my first try in under 5 minutes.
I was losing VERY badly until I scanned him. Then I knew how to beat him and I proceeded to destroy him.
I will say this: all of the bosses have looked very awesome so far.
The fight against Metal Ridley was so much better than I thought it would be (and far sooner).

By first boss, I mean the first end of area boss. The others I think were just mid-bosses. If you knew what I meant, and took out the boss at the end of Bryyn in less then 5 minutes then...you're awesome. Truly awesome. And rep shall fall down from the heavens upon you.

Ah, the ice-power Hunter? No, I haven't even fought him yet. However, there is a video on this walkthrough that I was looking at that has a guy beating that Boss in less than a minute.

Lol, no, I meant the boss after that one. The Ice Hunter dude didn't really take me all that long, but under a minute is pretty impressive.
I forget the name of the boss, but it was the one who used these three giant spheres to power himself up. The only reason I consider him the first true boss was that he was at the end of the area itself, not counting back tracking. Of course, by that count, there may only be three or four bosses.

Yea, I definately consider there to be more bosses than that. He was just the final boss of the planet, but there were several bosses on the planet.
Yea, I hear that guy is actually one of the hardest bosses in the game if you don't know exactly what to do. Apparently he just starts ramming you and the only way to escape is be super lucky with the Morph Ball.

Ah, well I actually managed to avoid those charges with a strafe, but I know what you mean. Figuring out the guy was keep to winning, but even then it takes a bit of skill with aiming to get by him. Good luck to you whenever you reach him.

What are the controls like? Any janky "shake" the wiimote carp?
Does it have 2 player?
Thanks for the info!

All Wiimote functions are specific. To aim you move it accordingly, to operate devices you have to perform specific motions, and to jump while in morphball you have to tilt it upwards. Nothing like attacking in Zelda, this game has had a little more time to get the controls properly utilized.
There isn't any multiplayer in this one though.

Okay, so I just fought and beat that guy with the glowing orb things. It took me about 10 minutes and one try, which I was surprised by. He was supposed to be harder than that.
Granted, hitting the glowing orb on his back was very difficult considering you were so shorter than him, he would always turn around, and the hatch would always open and close.
The key to it is just blasting the mess out of his orbs (or the white light that comes out of the orbs when you destroy them) with the Hyperbeam.
Which reminds me: when I first heard of Hypermode, I thought "wow, that's probably going to be useless. It's probably going to not be worth the payoff of losing an energy tank." Wow, was I wrong. I love Hypermode, and whenever I have full health and there are a large number of enemies around, I use it like I have 50 energy tanks. It's amazing.
Now I'm in Sky City, and that place is a blast. I am fighting some security robot boss that lets me get the boost ball, and he seems pretty hard.
This game is a LOT more "shooty shooty, explore, shooty shooty" than Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2 which were like "explore explore, shoot, get upgrade, explore explore". I like that a lot, especially with these new controls.

So, JGonspy (or anyone else that owns the game), I am quite stuck.
All I need is the Energy Cell found on the Pirate Homeworld, but I can't find it to save my life.
Ah, well, you should find all the Energy Cells on the Pirate Homeworld in the normal course of the game, so you may need to keep moving forward on that planet. Fully exploring Valhalla is literally the last you'll do before the final rush to the boss.
Which power ups do you still need? If you have them all then I suppose just keep pushing towards the final boss.

Well, I've used all of my other power cells on Valhalla getting crappy expansions that I really don't need. I mean, I truly never use more than 80 missles until I get to a Save Station and even before that I get Missile Pick-Ups. And I don't even know what a Ship Missile Expansion does.
The problem is that I have gotten to the ship that lets me get to the final boss/seed, and it told me that Valhalla would hold the coordinates/code to getting to the final boss/seed.
Well I went to Valhalla and eventually it came to a point where I needed 2 Energy Cells, and I didn't have any. So I went back to Bryyn and got the Energy Cell that was at a hidden Fuel Gel Pump.
But now it tells me that I need to find the one that is on the Pirate Homeworld, and I have no idea where that is.
Ah, well the ship missile expansion lets you bomb enemies with your ship when you're an outdoor area. Not many people realize that, and it isn't all that handy, but there ya go.
One optional energy cell is in the Metroid Processing room under the floor. It should be easy to spot if you look out for it.
The others I think you should come across on your own, but I may be wrong about that. If you've got that one, then let me know which of the nine you're actually missing and that should make it a bit easier.

Well, I found it.
And it was the one in the Mining Quarry, which was really easy to spot. It was there as soon as you walk into the Quarry room. But I just didn't get it for some reason.
And I went on to beat the game, as well.
I must say, I was surprised to see Samus's suit turned back to normal. I really, really liked it how it looked with the Hypermode upgrade. I was also surprised whenever it said "Dark Samus repelled" instead of "Dark Samus defeated", but I guess that you really do kill Dark Samus after you kill the Aurora Unit.
It was a really good game and took a LOT of time, which is what I like. The boss fights were absolutely awesome, I must say. During the boss fights I never truly felt like Samus was the underdog, rather it was an even fight between 2 powerful foes. And I liked it like that.
I pretty much agree with everything you said regarding the game. I just got the last of the upgrades yesterday but I'm trying to track down all the scans before closing things up after the ending. I have a feeling the 100% ending will have to do with:
an Aurora Unit turning into Mother Brain. Probably the phazon one, assuming it survived and was already leading the Space Pirates.
Also, your signature is truly insightful. Clearly the words of a man wise beyond his years.

The last level was a blast. I loved being in permanent Hypermode, because I was honestly in it very little during the course of the game. I just had no need to get in it unless my opponents were highly resistant to anything else, or I was fighting a boss and I created an opening so that I needed to hurt it as much as possible before it closed up.
Hyper Missiles are really powerful. They would make Hypermode worthwhile if they didn't take up as much Phazon and if they followed like normal missiles.
On another note, Dark Samus was fairly easy.
And I forgot; what ever happened to Omega Riddley? Did you kill him or did he just fly away?

I had the same problem with Hyper Mode. I'm too conditioned to avoid using special modes like that unless I absolutely have to, even in games without a penalty. I suppose that stems from the super attack in Final Fight that chewed up your energy.
I had an easier time with the Aurora Unit then Dark Samus for some reason. I guess I just got a nice break when it came to hitting it behind the head.
Considering Prime's place in the Metroid time line, Ridley will be back. That's just the kinda bad guy who won't stay dead.

I love this game so much. I'm going to try out the Hypermode difficulty so I can unlock everything.
100% ending includes a shot of Dark Samus flying away in her ship after the credits.

Metroid Prime 3 is the greatest Wii specific title yet. Truly awesome. The graphics are great, but the Artwork is what sells this game off as gorgeous. The artwork alone makes you feel like you really are in the world of Samus Aran. Plus, I LOVE the fact you can go from Planet to planet in this game. It really makes the game feel bigger, and seeing the different environments is awesome. Sky Town may be my favorite place. The boss battles are pretty cool. Everything about this game is great........with the exception of the stupid cell search...but it's such minor part of the game you won't really mind it that much. Best part about the game is the ship can do things for you. It is a cool part of the game where your ride almost feels like a "friend". I hope Retro does some other projects now!
