How would everyone feel about picking 5 decent games we will predict the winners of. those who win, get rep. Just like guessing the preview fig, but this could have multiple winners. Example of this if it were going on this week:

Tennessee at Cal
LSU at Mississippi State
Washington State at Wisconsin
Wake Forest at Boston College
Florida State at Clemson

Decent games only. Top 25 match ups if possible.

machineman
09/04/2007, 04:19
I'd get in on it. Don't care about the rep part, but the pick 5 from top 25 match-ups is fun. Pick 10 if we have that many match-ups, even. I would have lost that first one for sure this week, as my Vols aren't as good as I want them to be. Cal's speedsters will probably spell trouble for a few this year though. I think they deserve to move in the lower top 10 for sure this week. But any good pass-rush team might expose them as not-so great. Tennessee is for sure not among those.

This weeks games if we were doing this:

Va. Tech at LSU
Miami at Oklahoma
TCU at Texas
Oregon at Michigan
Notre Dame at Penn State

Konmel
09/06/2007, 23:08
How many people should we get on before we start doing this?

machineman
09/06/2007, 23:49
And do we just post our picks whenever (before game-time)?

Shadow40
09/07/2007, 00:13
Count me in, I love picking games and then being wrong. I'm like machineman rep isn't that important, its fun picking teams and then watching them and hoping their going to win.

If these are the teams we are going with I'll pick the teams I think are going to win.

Va. Tech at LSU (LSU is the better team)
Miami at Oklahoma (Graduated from Oklahoma so I have to go with Oklahoma:grin: . Still think its going to be a hard game but a fun one.)
TCU at Texas (TCU with the upset, I would be hard pressed to pick Texas to win any week of the year.)
Oregon at Michigan (Michigan because they are going to come out pissed this week)
Notre Dame at Penn State (Penn State in this one, no real reason just seems like a good pick)

machineman
09/07/2007, 00:24
My picks in bold:
Va. Tech at LSU should be a good game, gotta go with the home team)
Miami at Oklahoma I'll probably never pick Miami, even if they play my hometown high school team, meh.
TCU at Texas Should be another good game, interstate rivalry
Oregon at MichiganThe Wolverines are mad, I'd love to see Oregon be the next team to win at the big house though
Notre Dame at Penn State Can Joe Pa take down the Irish one more time? I can certainly hope. Not a fan of either team, to say the least.

Looks like I went with all the home teams, hmmmmm. I don't usually do that.

theanalogkid
09/07/2007, 10:55
My picks:
LSU. Can't pick against the the Tigers at home
Oklahoma. Again, can't pick against the Sooners at home.
TCU. My upset special.
Michigan. Bo, please smile down on us. And we are sorry.
Penn State. The domers will need a miracle to make this close.

If we are serious, others can nominate games they feel should be in. I will put the games up on Monday.

Gacy's Clown
09/07/2007, 10:59
I'll take:
LSU
Oklahoma
Texas
Michigan
Penn State

Won't a tie-breaker be needed? Of the 4 people so far, two chose the same 5 teams and the other two chose the same 5 teams.

theanalogkid
09/07/2007, 22:33
Thats the beauty of it. There can be multiple winners.

theanalogkid
09/09/2007, 20:38
None of us won. Damn Michigan and their sieve-like defense. If my daughter wasn't cheering for Rocket football, I could go to the Michigan- Notre Dame game at cost! Ditto for the Penn State game. How the mighty have fallen!

theanalogkid

machineman
09/10/2007, 02:04
Can't say I'm mad at Oregon, but my partner at work is gonna be carp weasel all week about that game for sure. He was sure Mich would turn it on this week. I'm surprised they didn't too, maybe they really aren''t very good. Hard to imagine that offense being so drab though.

machineman
09/10/2007, 23:58
I have no objections, and I don't see why not, but we will wait for theanalogkid's opinion since it's his thread.

Well, I know I won't be winning this week either. I will pick my Vols over the butt-munche....er Gators if that game is in the pot this week, and I'll lose----- :(

Konmel

Here are some match-ups to consider:

Tennessee vs. Florida
Boston College vs. Georgia Tech
USC vs. Nebraska

Ohio State vs. Washington
Arkansas vs. Alabama

Notre Dame vs. Michigan

There could be a few others, but these are the one that jumped out. What do you say, TAK?

theanalogkid
09/11/2007, 09:24
Yes, m a caque you can jump in. Anyone reading this can pick the games selected without asking to join first.

Machine, I just started this thread. It is the peoples thread!

On to the games:

Tennessee vs. Florida
Boston College vs Georgia Tech
USC vs Nebraska
Ohio State vs Washington
Arkansas vs Alabama
West Virginia vs Maryland
Florida State vs Colorado

One that should be on top: Notre Dame vs Michigan

I know its an odd number, but when conference play starts we will pick a game from each of the 6 BCS conferences. Anyone object to that?

I hope this works. I would like to pick these teams to win

Tennessee vs. Florida
Boston College vs Georgia Tech
USC vs Nebraska
Ohio State vs Washington
Arkansas vs Alabama
West Virginia vs Maryland
Florida State vs Colorado

Some of these are tough. I am torn with Florida State because they do not look very good. It is hard for me to pick Ohio State because they have looked so sluggish even against poor opponents and Ty Willingham has got a pretty decent squad with a 2-0 record. I am tempted to pick Alabama because it is the third game of the year and Saban might have his team running like it should but McFadden is so good it is not funny. If Michigan and Notre Dame is an option as well then I pick Michigan to win and give those fish eaters an 0-3 record.

Konmel
09/11/2007, 23:58
Similar, but a tad different than the submitted ones so far:

Tennessee vs. Florida
Boston College vs Georgia Tech
USC vs Nebraska
Ohio State vs Washington
Arkansas vs Alabama
West Virginia vs Maryland
Florida State vs Colorado

with Michigan over Notre Dame too

machineman
09/12/2007, 00:24
My picks:

Tennessee vs. Florida: Can't, no matter how stupid, go against my Vols.
Boston College vs Georgia Tech: Tech is pretty good at home, maybe.
USC vs Nebraska: Hope I'm wrong. Sick of USC at this point
Ohio State vs Washington: Huskies are looking too tough to lose this one at home.
Arkansas vs Alabama: Man I hate the Tide, should be another good game though
West Virginia vs Maryland: I don't think it will be close
Florida State vs Colorado: Have no idea really, FSU is another team I traditionaly don't like.
Notre Dame vs Michigan: I see this as a lesser of two evils, although I may become a Jimmy Clausen fan, just because his brothers are ex Vols

Not the smartest picks I've ever made, but at least I can't lose money on 'em!

theanalogkid
09/12/2007, 00:45
My picks:

Tennesee vs Florida. Florida
Boston College vs. Georgia Tech. BC
USC vs Nebraska. USC I wish they could tie
Ohio State vs Washington. Washington my mild upset
Arkansas vs Alabama. Arkansas
West Virginia vs Maryland. West Virginia
Florida State vs Colorado. Colorado

And I hope to whatever god wants to answer this prayer that my beloved Wolverines beat ND.

Notre Dame vs Michigan (Michigan has screwed me for the last time, until they can prove to me that they have a football team that knows how to win I'm picking the opponents)
Tennessee vs. Florida
Boston College vs Georgia Tech
USC vs Nebraska
Ohio State vs Washington
Arkansas vs Alabama
West Virginia vs Maryland
Florida State vs Colorado

Those are my picks above.

Some games to consider:

Texas A&M vs. Miami, FL
Michigan St. vs. Notre Dame (just kidding)
Penn St. vs Michigan (J/K again, what could have been...)
Georgia vs. Alabama
Kentucky vs. Arkansas
South Carolina vs. LSU
Washington vs. UCLA

A lot of good SEC match-ups.

machineman: 3-5

This weeks games. Conference play starts so I hope to have a game from each conference. I am also picking televised games, so if you keep seeing the same teams come up, sorry. I figure this will give people the best chance to see and root for their picks. On to the selections!

Texas A&M vs Miami Thursday night ESPN. I will almost always have the Thursday night game up. Everyone can see it and it usually features a Top 25 team or at least 1 team you have heard of.

Georgia vs Alabama Sat. 3:30 CBS

Washington State vs USC Sat. 8:00 ABC

Iowa vs Wisconsin Sat. 8:00 ABC

More to be announced as ESPN picks who to run in the noon time slots. Unless people have their own suggestions.

I already made a few -- the SEC has some good match-ups this week. I don't think we should limit it to one game per conference. Plus, even though WSU vs. USC is televised, I think the better game will be Washington and UCLA.

I also like the idea of a person must getting all of the choices correct to win. It makes it more challenging.

I think these games are good. It is a nice mix of the conferences. I don't see a Big East team but I can deal with that.

Also, I am not sure about the Wolverines and their dominance over Penn State this Saturday. I thing that PSU will end up winning the Big 10,11 this year.

Texas A&M vs Miami- Road dog?
Georgia vs Alabama- I think Georgia gets it on track this week
Kentucky vs Arkansas- KY is a commer, but the Nutt will roll
Iowa vs Wisconsin- Iowa? I think not.
Washington vs UCLA- Huskies need to pounce!
South Carolina vs LSU- LSU=Unstoppable (until stopped, of course)
Michigan State vs Notre Dame- The Domers will get their first Offensive touchdown though.

d-roc69

Hopefully, these picks will be better than last week. 5-3, sheesh. And I call myself a sports fan.

Texas A&M vs Miami
Georgia vs Alabama
Kentucky vs Arkansas
Iowa vs Wisconsin
Washington vs UCLA
South Carolina vs LSU
Michigan State vs Notre Dame

These games were pretty hard to pick. I am not sure about games 2,4,5, and 6. As bad as Wisconsin has played all year I think they are due for a loss. Georgia is a solid team and I can really see them catching Alabama coming down from the high of last weeks win but Bama has looked pretty solid. And I have no idea which way to go with Washington/UCLA. UCLA is coming off a loss to a bad school as best I remember so I think they will get up for this game. And Notre Dame sux hard. So, this week should be interesting.

The damage from yesterday:
TAK: 4-2
machineman: 4-2
Konmel :5-1
d-roc69: 3-3
shadow40 : 3-3

These do not count the Thursday game, which we all tanked on. Konmel had the best record, so if you think we should rep based on record, rep him. If you think rep should be given to those who get them all right , don't rep him. The choice is yours.

I'm so looking forward to Cal vs. Oregon. Hopefully the Bears can take it. Besides the Trojans, there always seems to be one other team that beats Cal.

Here are some good match-ups for next weekend:

Cal vs. Oregon
Michigan St. vs Wisconsin
West Virginia vs. South Florida

Alabama vs. Florida State (maybe)
Clemson vs. GA Tech (maybe)

Well we always look for the big name games. Sometimes there are good matchups based on what both teams have done this season or have the potential to do. Here are a few games that I think are fairly even and could be good games.

Notre Dame vs. Perdue (Both suck but pretty evenly)
Kansas State vs. Texas (Texas is having a bad year and KSU can surprise teams)
Louisville vs. NC State (Both teams are either bad or playing below their potential)
Ole Miss vs. UGA (Ole Miss plays up to the strength of their opponent. They played UF really tough last week. They played Georgia tough last year and will this week as well.)
Southern Miss vs. Boise State (I think it would be fun. Both are decent teams with little respect)
Washington State vs. Arizona (They both are lower tier teams of the Pac 10 and it could be a good game)

I actually prefer one winner. More rep-worthy. Should we add a few of the other games or is it too late for this weekend? We currently have 6. Last week, there were 7 (6 after dropping the Aggies/'Canes game). I'm not sure on the week before, but I want to say 8.

I did not find out that you guys had lost until yesterday. Was it a fluke like our game where we had 5 turnovers that should not have been made. Granted, S. Florida is a solid team and they did cause the turnovers. Sean had said your game was a blowout but I believe I saw the score to be around 24-18.

UGA beats Mississippi 45-17 (this was a close game until the 4th quarter)

Georgia vs. Tennessee
VA Tech vs. Clemson
Cincinnati vs. Rutgers (yep, you read that one correctly)
Florida vs. LSU
Ohio State vs. Purdue
Nebraska vs. Missouri

That's 8 right there. Most are big match-ups. UGA always seems to lose to Tennessee when they are ranked better than the Vols, plus it's at TN.

GA Tech vs. Maryland
Colorado vs. Baylor

Ohio State vs. Purdue
Nebraska vs. Missouri

That's 8 right there. Most are big match-ups. UGA always seems to lose to Tennessee when they are ranked better than the Vols, plus it's at TN.

Other possible games:

Kansas vs. Kansas State
GA Tech vs. Maryland
Colorado vs. Baylor

These all look like good match-ups. You're correct about the TN/UGA comment, but TN has been awful this year. I think they will pull it together against GA saturday and at least make it a good game. It's a HUGE week in the SEC. I know FLA blew it this weekend, but they lost that match-up last year too, and look how that ended up. If LSU wins this one convincingly, look for them to make more separation on the No 1
spot and maybe overtake all 3 polls.
Is Cal off this week? At this point in the year #3 is probably the best place to be.
Anybody know who Hawaii plays this week?

Konmel
09/30/2007, 20:52
I do know that Cal has an off week, which is great for them to regroup. They play UCLA soon and USC in early November.

And as for Hawaii:

Utah St. (0-5, Road: 0-3) 12:05 am EDT
(16) Hawaii (5-0, Home: 2-0)

The reason I was asking is, I know Colt Brennan was injured, but I haven't gotten to see him play yet. I'm hoping they get a good match-up on the mainland soon and it gets televised. And Brennan isn't injured.

Konmel
09/30/2007, 21:22
Well, it doesn't look like a good match-up. I only have gotten to see Colt Brennan play once, in the Aloha Bowl of last year. He was impressive.

I get you some rep your way once I spread some more around.

The two games that were the hardest for me to pick this last week were the two I lost. I had a strong feeling UGA would lose but since I have connections there, and I'm not putttny any money on this, I'm not going against them. I also thought Nebraske would make it alot closer. Once the new rankings are out, I'll take a look at the schedule again.

Something like BC/Arizona State would be cool just because it isn't the usually suspects. VT probably won't catch enough breaks to get a shot at the NC either way since they are still 8th (maybe, but unlikely). With everything that happened at the school in the spring it sure would be nice to have a strong finish and some positive press.

Heck yeah there's some good football left. Some people's seasons are still out there on the field! Then we'll have the conference championship games. I'm for doing as many bowl games as everyone wants to do at the end. Sorry about your Wolverines,TAK. Will they be going after Les Myles?

The Records for this week:

RCricket55: 5-4
Antipathy: 3-6
machineman: 7-2
d-roc69: 3-6
Tak: 5-4

Congrats to machineman. Yes, Les Miles appears to be a frontrunner for the Michigan job.

Machineman, I will rep you here since this ####### system won't let me give you rep otherwise.

Also, I would not get too excited about Les Miles. He was playing with excellent talent (that he did not recruit by the way) and still lost two games. He almost lost 3 others. I think you are correct that he will go to Michigan. I just wouldn't be that excited about it.

Speaking of coaches leaving, if Will Muschamp leaves Auburn and takes the head coaching job at Georgia Tech I am going to fire bomb someone's office.

I am not excited by it. His clock management skills are horrible. I think Brian Kelly would be good.

If Oklahoma beats Mizzou, the scramble for the National Championship game could get interesting. I sure hope it isn't OSU though.

I hope the end of this week doesn't make for OSU getting in the title game, I'd rather see Hawaii, but that ain't happening. I can only hope Tennessee puts some more doubts in Michigan's mind about Miles by winning the SEC championship, but it's a long shot at best. Either way, Big Phat Phil Fulmer saved his own skin by getting the Vols to that game this year.

Should be another good week of college games! And don't worry about the rep carp, I didn't go perfect, so it ain't deserved.

I won't be thrilled if he comes here. Still, I hope Tennessee wins, but not enough to actively root for them. Hearing "Rocky Top" 20 billion times at the old Citrus Bowl while getting our hats handed to us really soured me on them. Sorry, machineman.

Who's the Masta!?!

SHO NUFF!!!

Just kidding, I got really lucky this week.

I think the bowl games could be interesting except for the Rose Bowl. I know Georgia would not have traveled but I think it would have been a much better match up. I think that VT and Missouri would have been a better game as well. I will go ahead and congratulate VT on the win. I am happy about the Championship game. LSU had a really tough schedule and I feel they deserve to go. Ohio State had a cup cake schedule but they still only lost 1 game.

VT's 2 losses were LSU and BC. After they got a second chance against BC and won, I was really hoping to get a LSU rematch. They were 3rd, even though a decent bit back. Kind of pissy OSU is going, talk about backing in after losing.

I'd say you won't have to worry about Miles anymore TAK. I can't believe our QB handed that game to LSU. Ainge had a really good year, and 2 freshman-mistake passes in this game during his senior season was totally unexpected. congrats on the picking d-roc, rep coming. Ohio State getting to go back to the show just keeps proving to me that a playoff system is sorely needed.

I will take suggestions all this week on how to do the bowls. Straight pick or pont system like the Bowl Mania contest ESPN used to run.

d-roc69
12/03/2007, 17:06
I can definitely get behind the idea that Ohio State does not deserve to be there. I think Oklahoma should play LSU. But, I also have problems with conferences that do not have an actual conference championship game. I feel that they all should have one or none of them should. I don't understand why there is a rule that you must have 12 teams in your conference to have a championship game.
I am definitely in favor of a playoff system. Alot of people think that there should be an 8 team playoff system. I think that a 14 team system would be better. The top 14 would go. That means that the top two teams could get a bye. This gives them some incentive for playing so well all season. And again I think each conference should be standardized where all teams have conference championship games or none do. They can still have there bowls. If the top 15 teams played there would be 13 games total from the playoffs. They could still keep the well known bowls for tradition. And some of the lesser bowls that have been around a while would remain and the remainder of the top 25 or 30 could play in them. I think this could work but it will never happen.

doesn't matter to me really. How does the point system work. Guess the scores and points are awarded based on how much you miss? Or bigger games count for more?

You pick the winner of each game and put a number to it based on number of bowls and how confident you are in that pick. For example, if there are 25 bowl games, when you pick VA TEch to win, you put at 25 next to it. If they win, you get those points. High point at the end wins.

you are getting Rich Rodriguez from WVU. A little surprised I must say, but I think he should do a pretty good job for Michigan.

Hmm, this has kind of died down. Maybe we could do the 5 BCS bowls and 2 of your choice, in order to keep it the same as the other weeks?
