Dr. Demento might not be on many stations, but he lives on!

What is your favorite comedic song?

I have a few, but one I've always loved was

"Me Like Hockey" by Arrogant Worms.

"The Saga Begins" by Weird Al (How that man hasn't won a lifetime Grammy.)

"Bulbous Buffont" by The Vestibules

Come on, show your inner geek. What are some of your favorite "demented" songs?

"Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" by Monty Python (from the "Life of Brian" movie).

Ah, there's so much good stuff by the Arrogant Worms. As for favourite, I can't choose between their Having Fun Is Bad For You and Carrot Juice Is Murder.

Haven't really heard many other "comedy" bands/artists other than Weird Al, who I can't stand.

Frontman, as a wrestling fan, I am completely surprised you didn't list "Pencil Neck Geek" by Classy Freddy Blassy.

Anyway; besides that one, I'm fond of these:

1. Wet Dream by Kip Addotta

2. The Phantom Windbreaker, I can't remember who did that and I don't have easy access to my Dr. Demento album to check.

3. Frosty the Dopeman, (see above.)

4.The Man Song by Sean Morey (from the Bob and Tom Show)

5. Prisoner of Love by Sam & Dave (see above)

6. Toast by Heywood Banks (see above)

7. The Curly Shuffle by Jump "n the Saddle Band

8. Moose Turd Pie by Utah Phillips

Dr. Demento should be about due for a 35th anniversary collection if it's not already out.

"Song for the Dumped" by Ben Folds Five

"Jazz Discharge Party Hats" by Zappa's Universe
"Another One Rides the Bus" by Weird Al Yankovic
"Mother" by The Police
"My Rhyme Ain't Done" by LL Cool J
"I Like Hubcaps" by Brak
That Natalie Portman Rap
"Wash No Dishes No More" by Mojo Nixon & Skid Roper
"Uncle F*cka" by Terrence & Phillip

Here's a song from a very good friend of mine. This was from his band Rudy and the song was played on a bunch of college radio stations. It's all done "tongue in cheek," which is quite apropos when talking about this song. Rudy - The Underpants Song (http://youtube.com/watch?v=A9mBOWOjxn4)

Anyone who enjoys comedic humor should go buy "Strictly Commercial" by Frank Zappa. Songs like Disco Boy, Montana, Dancing Fool, Let's Make the Water turn Black, Valley Girl, the Muffin Man, I'm the Slime, Don't Eat the Yellow Snow and Joe's Garage are all brilliantly hilarious.

And don't even get me started on TMBG.

Ignatz_Mouse
08/30/2007, 23:54
TMBG is awesome.

Many other great mentions in this thread.

I love novelty music, so this is hard. I'll give the nod to the godfather of Weird Al, Allen Sherman, and hsi classic "You Went The Wrong Way Ol' King Louis"

"They're Coming To Take Me Away" by Napoleon XIV
"Gonna Buy Me A Dog" by The Monkees
"Serve Yourself" by John Lennon (it's highly amusing to here Lennon getting crotchety and saying 'kids are all the same - ya want a f*ckin' car now, you're lucky to have shoes!')

And the entirety of Tenacious D's catalog.

You all suck for not mentioning Spinal Tap. They just got back together for a performance at Live Earth too.

I could probably list all their songs, but my favourites are Big Bottom, ##### School, and Stonehenge.

Ooooo well anything by Weird Al (duh) but other than that . . .

The Great Luke Ski is hi-larious. He's like Weird Al, except not as well known.

And you (Frontman) get's rep for making a thread about the Good Doctor. You know what? IT'S FUNNY FIVE TIME:

- 1 - "Amish Paradise": Weird Al
- 2 - "Stealing Like a Hobbit": The Great Luke Ski
- 3 - "Oz-man": The Great Luke Ski
- 4 - "The Scotsman": Bryan Bowers
- 5 - "Star Trekkin' ": The Firm

Honorable Mention: "Dancin' Fool": Frank Zappa, "Guitar-zan":Ray Stevens, "King Tut": Steve Martin

Anything Frank Zappa has ever done... but he's already been mentioned, so I'll recommend something a bit different, for those who like their humour with a good dose of metal:

"Seventh Church Of The Apocalyptic Lawnmower (Skank Mix)" by Lawnmower Deth.
Or "Satan's Trampoline".
Or "Lancer With Your Zancer".
Or "Sumo Rabbit And His Inescapable Trap Of Doom".
Or... ah, you get the idea.

I really want to post mp3 links here, but don't think that's allowed.
Somebody please tell me I'm wrong...

Yeah, The D rocks, also I like a few tracks from Electric Six (High Voltage (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2a4gyJsY0mc), Gay Bar (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTN6Du3MCgI) etc), Uncle F*cka (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dytXVjv08cE) is the only song that made me cry in the record store, plus the Bloodhoung Gang, some funny songs from them. Big plus for all these are the videos that accompany them are usually real funny too, so Weird Al definitely has a great collection. I don't really listen to him but I love to watch the videos.

Weird Al has done some brilliant stuff, but "The Saga Begins" is probably one of his best on so many levels. "Ode to a Superhero" is good too.

I'm into a capella music, and there's some really funny stuff out there if you can find it.
"Eine Kleine Not Musik" by the Gas House Gang (The plot to the Magic Flute as sung to the tune of Eine Kleine Nachtmusik)

"Chat With Your Mother" by Yagottawanna

Also like
"What I Want Is a Proper Cup of Coffee" by Trout Fishing in America

Some funny stuff in the folk genre as well. I laugh at a lot of Christine Lavin's songs. Some of the better ones:
"Regretting What I Said"
"High Heel Shoes"
"Sensitive New Age Guys" - a little dated now, but still amusing

Okay, here's the first things I thought of:

Wolverine's Theme (parody of Jewel's song "Hands") - modernhumorist.com

Banana Phone - Raffi

Majesty of Rock - Spinal Tap* (I don't know how to type the umlaut over the "n".)

Blood on the Coal - The Folksmen (same guys who are Spinal Tap)
(This might be my favourite comedy song.

The Black Fly Song - Stan Rogers (Really just a Canadian thing.)

Everybody wants a rock - TMBG*

The Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota - Weird Al*

Hello, Dad! - Was Not Was

Elements - Tom Lehrer*

Senor Burns - Tito Puente

12 Days of Christmas - Bob and Doug MacKenzie

A * means you should check out more by that artist.

THE LEGEND OF THE RENT WAS WAY HARDCORE!

And also, I like Weird Al's original songs like "Hardware Store" a lot, too, but "Yoda" is so much better than "The Saga Begins" just because it's not about the prequels.

Alanis Morissette's emo cover of "My Humps" is purty funny, too.

The Anchorman gang singing "Afternoon Delight."

"Movin' Right Along" by Fozzie and Kermit.

"Laughing All The Way To The Bank" by Boss Hogg.

Some more that come to mind that haven't been mentioned:

Kinko the Kid-Lovin' Klown
My Dead Dog Rover
Somebody's Moggy
Yoda (Weird Al's best)
Spam (Weird Al's 2nd best)
Spider-Man Theme as done by Moxy Furvous (this has to be heard to be believed)

He also updates the "Rick Astley is a pantywaist" line - I believe it was N'Sync at the time.

I do know the PDQ Bach, and it's different. I do like a lot of the PDQ Bach stuff. Some of it stretches a little too far for the joke, but a lot of it is great. Actually some of my favorites are when Peter Schikele slips in something of his own onto the album. I love the Unbegun Symphony and the way it mixes the different, seemingly incongruent themes so that it seems like they were always meant to go together. Who would have thought that "You Are My Sunshine" and the 1812 Overture would blend so well. Or "Onward Christian Soldiers" with the Marriage of Figaro?

When Ginger Baker was with Masters Of Reality (Sunrise On The Sufferbus), they recorded a little thing called T.U.S.A which gets me to chuckle.
It's basically Ginger's diatribe on the American inability to make a decent cup of tea ("looks like gnat's pee").

There's one band a friend of mine likes, not because they're particularly good. Mostly they play loudly and shout unintelligibly. The humor comes in with the name of the band and the titles of the songs. Tragically, I can post neither of those, as I'd probably get thrown off the website.

Just start throwing inappropriate words, concepts, and violence together and you'll probably eventually hit one of their song titles.

Glad to see Tom Lehrer mentioned. That's some good stuff. The Elements is inspired. (I know! Let's put the Periodic Table to Gilbert & Sullivan!) It takes a special mind to think of something like that.

Another great patter song in the same vein is Yakko's World (http://www.metacafe.com/watch/37181/yakkos_world/) from the Animaniacs cartoon. A list of the nations of the world as sung to the tune of the Mexican Hat Dance. Funny in concept and truly impressive in execution.

i actually meant to start a thread about Dr. Demento before Frontman started this one. I used to listen to him on (I think) KMET in L.A. when I was stationed in Southern California in the late Seventies. Does anybody know if he's still on anywhere? Every five years he's been releasing collections, I have three of them. I also have a best of album by him that has the best version of Pencil Neck Geek ever. After Freddie finishes recording the song he wonders why his engineer is wearing a turtleneck "all the way up to his chin in the middle of July." He proceeds to investigate. It's hilarious. "Hey Fred, that equipment holds five thousand volts!".

i actually meant to start a thread about Dr. Demento before Frontman started this one. I used to listen to him on (I think) KMET in L.A. when I was stationed in Southern California in the late Seventies. Does anybody know if he's still on anywhere?

Per wikipedia.com

I love comedy songs so its going to be hard for me to pick just a few!!

I like a lot of Weird Al songs but I think the ones I like the most are:
The Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota
White and Nerdy
Yoda
SPAM

Arrogant Worms are the other one I listen to a lot so here are a few of the songs I love the most from them:
Let There Be Guns
The Last Saskatchewan Pirate
Log Into You
Song Inside My Head

Other novelty songs I love are:

ANYTHING by STAN FREBERG
ANYTHING by Tom Lehrer
ANYTHING by Spike Jones
Dancing Fool - Frank Zappa
Ti Kwan Leep/Boot to the Head - The Frantics
Fish Head - Barnes and Barnes
Existential Blues - T-bone Stankus
In Heaven There is No Beer - Clean Living
Lydia the Tatooed Lady - Groucho Marx
Stress - Jim's Big Ego
Beep Beep - The Playmates

AND SO MANY MORE!!!!
