Who's your favorite on the keyboards?
I know in the Seventies I enjoyed Rick Wakeman and Keith Emerson despite their music being over the top sometimes. I still love Rick Wakeman's "Six Wives of Henry the VIII" and ELP's Trilogy.
The late Nicky Hopkins was really good, which was why the Stones and Quicksilver Messenger Service used him so often. You should check out his "Tin Man Was a Dreamer" album. "Edward, the Mad Shirt Grinder" was awesome.
Elton John is usually fun, especially his early stuff from "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" and prior.
I know somebody's going to mention Billy Joel, but the only thing I really like from him is "Piano Man".

I should be absolutely ashamed of myself for not mentioning John Paul Jones.

Keith Emerson story - I was at a music convention in LA and I was walking past a hotel ballroom at the Westin, and I heard the sounds of an ELP song. I went in and Keith Emerson was playing with Greg Bissonette and someone else on bass. It was remarkable. There weren't a lot of people and I walked to the front of the stage/risers. I was about 10 feet from Emerson himself and got to see him crawl on top of the grand and play the Bach Toccata and Fugue in Dm. Un-frigging-believable.
Keith is still my favorite keyboard player, but I have to give props to Elton John who's ability to play is generally undervalued.

Totally forgot Ray Manzarek of The Doors. Sad he thought they could move on without Jim (Ray did have a pretty good voice).

Who was that white guy who used to play with the Revolution? Dressed up like a doctor in some of the videos. When I think keyboards, that's where my mind goes.
Everyone is second to Chick Corea. Listening to Light as a Feather (the album) never fails to make me happy. That's an amazing power for music to have.
