What, has no one else seen this time-less film, one that you can watch over and over and over again and never get sick of?? Whats going on HCRealmers!! :)
I love this film so much, I love the music, the actors, the story, the songs, the costumes made out of curtains, I love it all. This gets an old fashioned classic 10 from me, and is easily one of my favourite movies ever!
Now quick DTM, close this thread and this will be your highest rated movie, ever! :p

Well, I got sick of it after ten minutes and stopped watching.
And Julie Andrews is evil.
cough, cough.
She climbs a tree and scrapes her knee
Her dress has got a tear
She waltzes on her way to Mass
And whistles on the stair
And underneath her wimple
She has curlers in her hair
I even heard her singing in the abbey
She's always late for chapel
But her penitence is real
She's always late for everything
Except for every meal
I hate to have to say it
But I very firmly feel
Maria's not an asset to the abbey
I'd like to say a word in her behalf
Maria makes me laugh
How do you solve a problem like Maria?
How do you catch a cloud and pin it down?
How do you find a word that means Maria?
A flibbertijibbet! A will-o'-the wisp! A clown!
Many a thing you know you'd like to tell her
Many a thing she ought to understand
But how do you make her stay
And listen to all you say
How do you keep a wave upon the sand
Oh, how do you solve a problem like Maria?
How do you hold a moonbeam in your hand?
When I'm with her I'm confused
Out of focus and bemused
And I never know exactly where I am
Unpredictable as weather
She's as flighty as a feather
She's a darling! She's a demon! She's a lamb!
She'd outpester any pest
Drive a hornet from its nest
She could throw a whirling dervish out of whirl
She is gentle! She is wild!
She's a riddle! She's a child!
She's a headache! She's an angel!
She's a girl!
How do you solve a problem like Maria?

How do you find a word that means Maria?

I like the idea of this film, but when I actually watch it, I get bored at around the bit with the song about the goats. In fact, I thought the film ended when they got married, I never realised there was the whole nazi bit at the end.
The songs are memorable, but the rest of the film really isn't.
7/10

It does suffer a bit because the Simpson's haven't parodied it yet, but it does get homage in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, if you don't believe me, think about the hills are alive when you are next forced to watch SW: AotC, I nearly burst out laughing when that particular scene happened.
I give it a 7.5.

You know, this is one of those films that we give a bad rap to these days because we've been bombarded with it over the years. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that at any given time in the world, a television station is playing this movie. That's not necessarily the movie's fault though and is, in fact, maybe a testament to its' merits for it to have become so "overplayed". It's actually a very well done movie with strong leads and catchy - if saccharine and, again, overplayed - tunes. The story is an interesting one and worth the watch.

What Rokk says is true, but amazingly I have only seen this film once, and I wasn't entirely impressed. I really like musicals, I really like Julie Andrews and I generally agree with the masses about the classics, but for some reason this movie does nothing for me. It may be the annoying children, it may be the singing germans, I am not totally sure, but even with fantastic direction and the wonderfull Ms. Andrews this film has always rubbed me the wrong way.
6.5 out of 10

Maybe you would have liked LotR better if people randomly burst into song...
Wait, they do.

Watched it relatively recently again, and was actually moved when she got married. The songs are good too.
I also love when it's homaged in Will and Grace.

The songs are catchy and it is a pretty nice story.
But that's it. And it wears thin pretty quickly.
I avoid this like the plague.
5.1 out of ten.
