Okay, this is the official game thread - which I'll be locking shortly until we officially enter the day phase later today (I would prefer to wait until Jacin's Arkham Asylum game enters its' Night Phase, so probably around 10 a.m. MST).

So, here are the basics rules of the thread/game:

1. If you need to know how to play "Mafia", well, you can either look at the zillion threads that have cropped up on it or you can get the actual rules here: Mafia Scum (http://www.mafiascum.net/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page)

2. Remember that you may not PM anyone during the game unless your write-up - or something sent to you by the game moderator (that would be me) - says that you can do so. Doing otherwise is cheating and will lead to horrible things.

3. You may not discuss this game - except in allowed PM's - outside of this thread; that includes "real life" conversation or casual mentioning of your role to a buddy.

4. Votes for lynching must be bolded. Hey, I need to keep my eyes and I want to make sure I don't miss anything. :)

5. Once you're dead, you need to not only refrain from discussing the game -at all- (this includes no PM's to former team members or chatting in other threads about it) but from posting on the game thread. I know it's a bummer and that you'll be tempted to post some witty comment or a "good bye", but, well, resist the temptation.

6. There is no editing of posts allowed in the thread. Yes, that means we can all point fun at each other's typos - even changing them is not allowed - but it's the standard rule and a good one so I'm sticking by it.

7. If you have to PM me an action, be sure to do so before the Night Phase is up or I'll choose for you. Simultaneously, if you're restricted or have a rule that adjusts your actions, be sure to follow it.

8. Hey, it's just a game. Have fun and remember at the end of the day we aren't actually accusing one another so don't take any "in game" comments to heart. We're all going to lie and be dirty backstabbing scoundrels in the game so don't hold it against anyone when they do it.

9. The game moderator - yep, still me - reserves the right to change things at any time or make a game decision. You never know when things may get...weird...so be on your toes (I could quote Tuttle but, really, why give credit to the Skrulls? :) ).

Quick note before we get started: I'm using a different computer than usual and the mouse tends to get a bit...weird and sometimes "activates" a button if I hover over it too long. If anyone didn't receive their character, PM me ASAP so I can resend to you (I'm pretty sure all cases where the "mouse jump" happened resorted in "Submit Message" but just to be sure there weren't any "Cancel Message" situations, felt I'd best post this.)

“Ladies and gentlemen, it’s the Muppet Show! Yaaaaaay!” and with that famous introduction, the little green frog skipped off the stage, having done his best to psych up the audience for tonight’s performance.

*****************************************************

The thing is though, the Muppet Show just didn’t seem the same any more. Kids these days wanted something hipper – and Kermit had definitely tried to find cast members that fit that role but, well, they never quite felt like the family built by the older members – and the seats in the theater just weren’t filling up like they used to in the days. Heck, even Statler and Waldorf were quieter as if the desire to heckle felt more like picking on something too helpless. Still, they at least showed up for the performances; many members of the cast had moved on to other pastures and even those old cranks were moonlighting as movie reviewers ("From the Balcony" (http://movies.go.com/muppets/)). The family was now scattered, the new corporate sponsor kept sending over that oddly two-dimensional mouse to oversee things, the audiences thinning and Kermit just wasn’t sure why people didn’t appreciate good solid entertainment anymore.

“Sheesh. Listen to me. I sound like Sam the Eagle.”, Kermit commented. He jumped when a voice behind him said, “Hey, better watch it Kermit. You know talking to yourself is the second sign of senility doncha’?” The speaker was a fuzzy bear sporting a tie and pork-pie hat and was one of Kermit’s oldest and staunchest friends, Fozzie. Kermit braced himself as he inquired, “No, I didn’t realize that. Uh, what’s the first sign, Fozzie?” “Asking lots of questions. Wakka- wakka-wakka!” Kermit smiled and thanked Fozzie. It’s not that he wasn’t appreciative of the bear’s –very poor- attempt at cheering him up, but, well, as he plucked the strings of his banjo and hummed a little bit of “Rainbow Connection”, he couldn’t help but feel something was on the horizon and he wasn’t sure how to best brace his crew. Boy, he sure missed Jim.

*******************************************************
He hadn’t forgotten. The man with the heavy drawl and vanilla ice-cream suit sat staring at an old worn flier advertising “The Muppet Movie”. He had tried so hard to be nice to the frog – practically offered him the world on a silver plate. Okay, so he also wanted the frog’s legs on that same plate – whether fricasseed or another way depended on his mood – but that shouldn’t have mattered. Not only did the frog find friends though that fought the man at every step, but they had gone on to make a movie full of mockery towards him. Millions had seen the film and his franchise had briefly stumbled, almost driven into the ground. The thing about America though was that it was a land of opportunity, plus a whole lotta’ folks just too busy to cook dinner and more than happy to support a fast food eatery. It took some time – and judicious marketing, such as renaming one of the dishes, Freedom Frog Legs – but Doc Hopper’s Frog Leg Emporium was practically a household name. Well, if your house was found in a certain rural stretch of the USA. Still, business was quite good but it would be better with just the right mascot. The thing of it was though the frog just had too many friends. So, Hopper continued to brood and slowly a plan came to mind.

******************************************************

It wasn’t even a month later, that Fozzie was walking through the Muppet Theater, trying to remember if he’d bought enough Tomato Remover. He usually kept enough in stock – tomato stock, wakka-wakka! – as he’d learned over the years how his routines frequently ended. It was worth it though, if only to get to share some vaudeville with the world, and especially with his friend. He thought he’d even seen Kermit come close to smiling at today’s act. Oh, sure, it may have looked like a frown, but Fozzie knew he was funny and surely Kermit was laughing on the inside.

The canvas false-wall next to Fozzie tore open and a furry figure emerged. Fozzie had just enough time to blurt out, “Long time no see! Wow, you’re still going through…” and at that, the furry fellow chomped down on Fozzie and ran off, much to the astonishment of the watching Muppets. Fozzie, stuck his head out of the monster’s muzzle long enough to yell, “Wait. You can’t do this. It’s cold outside and I’m all bare. Get it…bearrrr? Wakka-wakka-ack!”

Fozzie Bear – Rokk_Krinn – has been kidnapped and removed from the game. Can the Muppets pull together to rescue their old friend and thwart the machinations of Doc Hopper?

Day Phase begins now. There are 19 players in the game, meaning a majourity vote requires 10. The phase can – though not necessarily will be – closed after the majourity has been reached and will be closed, whether a majourity has been reached or not, by 12 p.m. MST tomorrow (Aug. 6).

Fozzie's too awesome to be killed. I'm pretty sure that if anyone tried to actually stab him or shoot him, that the bullet or knife would suddenly vanish, and his would-be killer would die of existencelessness.

That's right, I just made up a word. Pwned.

Night One

Not surprisingly, a night full of Muppet antics - especially an evening after Fozzie was seen being kidnapped - is rather chaotic. During the commotion, even Muppet regulars are backing out of their acquaintanceship with Kermit, afraid that being too close to him is risky. His true friends though will surely stick by him but in all the confusion, it seems like they just can't get together.

**********************************************

One of those friends does his best that evening for no one really knows the theater better than him. It's his uncle's place after all (well, sure, that mouse-eared fellow may argue that but Scooter knows better). Spotting another individual apparently in the acts of stalking someone, Scooter decides to go lock the door behind the suspicious fellow but upon getting closer his face briefly brightens with excitement, "Hey! Old friend! It's - " The poor kid never gets to finish his sentence, for another figure jumps out of the shadows screaming "Hii-yah!". Not long after, a smartly dressed fellow comes down the hall, sees the unconscious Scooter and picks him up. Shrugging the man comments, "Well, that was even easier than I expected."

*********************************************

Hearing the battle-cry, other folks in the theater start to head over to see if anyone needs help but before anyone gets there, a tremendous thumping noise draws people's attention elsewhere. Getting closer to the escalating noise, people see a man rush out of the Muppet Labs screaming, "Get down!". Flashes of red, green and silver(?) actually illuminate the sealed and fortified doors. Even after the noise stops, it's quite awhile before anyone ventures to open the Lab. When they do, they're greeted with a sight of destruction - shattered vials, a blown energy converter and computer bits everywhere.

Thawmus, playing the role of Scooter (Good Aligned - Muppet Show), has been kidnapped.

The Muppet Labs were severely damaged last night and are off-line for at least a day and perhaps the rest of the game.

Day Two begins now. The Day Phase will last no later than 2 p.m. MST tomorrow (Aug. 7) though, as always, it may be locked before then if a majourity has been reached.

Are Dr. Honeydew & Beaker OK?

Hearing the battle-cry, other folks in the theater start to head over to see if anyone needs help but before anyone gets there, a tremendous thumping noise draws people's attention elsewhere. Getting closer to the escalating noise, people see a man rush out of the Muppet Labs screaming, "Get down!". Flashes of red, green and silver(?) actually illuminate the sealed and fortified doors. Even after the noise stops, it's quite awhile before anyone ventures to open the Lab. When they do, they're greeted with a sight of destruction - shattered vials, a blown energy converter and computer bits everywhere.

at least one is ok since someone ran out and the door was sealed.

True, and what is the significance of the Labs?

The Muppet Labs were severely damaged last night and are off-line for at least a day and perhaps the rest of the game.

What happened? How will this affect the rest of game? Are there other "gathering places" (for lack of a better term)? Also, why did Miss Piggy chop Scooter? Assuming she is on the good side, Thawmus was just a bad choice to incapacitate.

I'd assume some characters have powers that requires the Lab for them to work (Honeydew and Beaker anyone?), so it's probably bad news for them.

Other than that, I've got nothing. No-one's got any information they'd be willing to share with anyone, just a teeny, tiny little hint?

If it tracks anything like the Crisis then the we townies aren't going to know exact alignments. I hope that's not true.

I'm not one for not voting so, I'd like to see if anybody else has anything to say before jumping to no lynch voting.

That's not exactly true. Voting No Lynch a lot when Mafia people are on the block is suspicious. Mafia people vote for a lynch when non-Mafia people are on the block, since they want all the non-Mafia killed.

And regardless, if Mafia people see that their teammates are on the block and have many votes, they might vote for their teammate anyways in order to not seem suspicious.

each night phase there is a good chance good guys die, and day is the best chance to hunt the mafia. When somebody doesn't want to lynch it takes the power out of the town folk's hand's. If we can get info to take out mafia it's good to wait for it....otherwise it might seem like you have something to gain from going to night phase.

Night One

If you stay silent and someone gets lucky tonight, you're a dead muppet and we've lost whatever info you have. 1 vote for ABF: Sstralkowski.

I agree with sstralkowski that something needs to happen, no lynch is just gonna get the mafia another night to wreak havoc. If you don't at least put pressure on someone, then there is no way to get information, unless a tracker steps up with an idea. I am out for the night, so I will check back tomorrow and see if some more information comes up.

i did a quick no lynch vote for two reasons:
there didn't seem to be any evidence leading to any mafia in the writeup, and i wasn't sure when i'd be back to vote (ie, now), so i just left a 'safe' vote of no lynch
i guess that's fishy, but not much else i can do about that...

Everyone's discussion of what to do is abruptly disrupted by a high-screeching noise, not unlike a souped-up lawn mower. Frantic "Meep-MEEP!" noises are heard and a moment later, a figure you would swear is Beaker goes zipping by, screaming "Meep! Mee-mee-meeeeeeeep!". He appears to be getting dragged along by a black helmet-style device that is belching out streamers of red hair. A moment later, you're pretty sure it's Beaker as he comes bouncing back along still at the mercy of the device. Everyone ducks as Beeker bounces and ricochets all over the place, hitting a few individuals. A minute later, the device shorts out - spraying arcs of light across the room - and Beaker sits in the middle of the floor, panting and letting out a feeble..."mee-" Dr. Honeydew comes running up, removing the device from Beaker's now bald head. "Oh..uhm..well, that didn't go so well."

The following vote has been shaved off the tally: RCricket55; one other player has been PM'd that he can not vote this Day Phase.

Yeah, except you waited a whole ten seconds for new info and then just gave up without hearing from almost every single player. Makes no sense at all, my friend. And just so you know, people, if ABF weren't a mafia member, the mafia would be jumping at the chance to lynch a townie and we'd have more than 2 votes for him. Think about that for a second.

Now you're just being silly. I've explained my reasoning completely. If you guys are that terrified of a world without Rizzo, then so be it, but we're never going to get anywhere unless we work together.

Cowering in the corner because we could be wrong is just asking for the mafia to come in every day and plant doubt in enough people's minds to land a no lynch vote most of the time.

You saw how not taking action early on hurt you in the SW mafia game. By the time, you guys got off your duffs, I had bitten half the universe.

This group needs a leader and some action. If I become that leader, then so be it, but I refuse to sit around and wait for Mr. Hooper to kick us down Oscar's trashcan one at a time.

You know, I've thougth about different "factions" of Muppets a few times now. Something nagging at me keeps thinking that a Sesame Street character or a Fraggle, or someone from the Labyrinth or the Dark Crystal is gonna show up as an independent Don/recruiter. If so, Kermit would be the obvious mafia traitor since he jumped ship from Sesame Street to the Muppets a while back.

A no lynch vote doesn't make you suspicious, but unless someone steps up with some information, you have to make something happen. The best way to do that is to (unfortunately) pick someone that does something even a little suspicious and go from there. That is all we have to go on right now, unless someone see something in the right up that I don't see.
