View Full Version : MaddieX to be born on Monday 9/10!

Well, my friends, it turns out that I'll be a dad (yet again) next week. Today, I took my wife to the OBGYN's office to have her check-up visit for the last stages of her pregnancy. Originally, we were given a due date of 9/14 for our second daughter to be born. It turns out that due to consistent, borderline high blood pressure and because the kid seems ready to go, the doc has told my beloved that if the baby girl is not here by next Monday, he is good with inducing the birth. My wife is more than happy b/c she has been on bed rest for the last 10 days.

Our first daughter, Jacqueline Isabel (Jackie) just turned 3 this past June. She is thrilled that she's going to be a big sister. Our second daughter, Madelyn Sofia (Maddie) will be warmly welcomed by the whole family.

Just wanted to share this joyous news with you all. If you don't find me on the Realms next week, it'll probably be due to the fact that I'll be home taking care of my wife, changing poopy diapers, trying to get the new baby to sleep, or finally trying to get some sleep myself.

Congrats! I promise* we won't kill you off in the Mafia games while you are away!

*promise not valid on Earth

Seriously, though, here's to a lifetime of joy. :classic:

Congratulations! It's good your daughter is positive and excited. I hope that lasts (jealousy of all the attention a newborn gets is very common). Just be aware of it.

Good thing Mrs. X is giving birth ...

Thanks, Jack - and for clarification, which Earth is this not valid on? There are 52 to choose from these days, ya know! :p

ON THE MOON!!!!!

Oh yeah - the moon... yeah! ;) That's the ticket!

Thanks, Bud. Actually, I fully expect that my oldest is gonna feel the bite of jealousy pretty soon. She has been an only grandchild on my wife's side of the family. I fully expect that Jackie's gonna want to have her attention back and will start acting out - normal for a 3-year old. Unfortunately for me, my dear daughter is stubborn like her mom and has her dad's bad temper. We'll cope as best as we can, and love her anyway!

You know, my natural inclination - I've been corrupted by the Realms - is to try and give some witty comment (well, half-wit-ty- in my case), but, honestly, this is such a great moment for you that it would just be wrong of me. :)

My heartiest congratulations and well wishes!

Thanks, Doc. I am very fond of physicians these days, especially my wife's Obie, Dr. Ein.

Your good wishes mean a lot, everyone.

Before you know it, she'll develop telekinetic powers and start breaking stuff from long distance.

Congrats on the up-and-coming child and I hope everything goes swimmingly!

charlie,

Congrats; I'm sure Mom and baby will be well. Its always fun to welcome a new addition to the family, eh?

You make sure you share those pics as soon as you can. (Especially the one that always gets taken that the Mom never wants anyone beyond the family to see; minutes after giving birth, sweaty, looks like she went and called Mike Tyson a wussy man.) :)

When Peers said you were dropping out due to very happy circumstances beyond your control, I really couldn't think of anything else other than having a kid.

Congratulations, man! :)

theanalogkid, JKLantern, Sigdr, SStralkowski, Frontman, and torontocollectr - my thanks to you all as well. Bringing a new baby into this world is both a delightful and terrifying adventure. The fact that we have a previous one kind of prepares you, but not really - as my wife and I have had the opportunity to find out. I'll post pics as soon as I can get them - though my wife has a NO PHOTOS ban in effect while in the delivery room (I used my camera phone last time... :) )

As for having two girls - I love being the daddy of two girls. Daddy is always the good guy. It's mommy that they like to drive up the wall. My oldest is taking some interest in comics and clix. I think that she'll grow up to be my comic book convention buddy, since she enjoys going to my LFCBS and gets me to buy her comics (she's not reading yet.)

Regardless, the family is one member bigger and overall we are truly blessed.

I wouldn't have minded a boy this time around, but as long as the baby is happy and healthy, it's all good. The door is open to try for #3, but not for a few years yet.

AZS, thanks - I will definitely posts pics of the little one. As you are still a bachelor, let me just tell you that sleep is your one most precious commodity. Don't let anyone else tell you otherwise!

Antipathy, scehaono, Pashy, Biz, ABF, Stark's Heir (Jay), MSU (Charlie) - thanks to one and all. You know, these sort of things are a blessing, but they have their hassles to be dealt with - and I don't mean kids in general.

Get this - we're getting ready yesterday in order to drop off my wife at the hospital, when we get a call that we have been "bumped" from the list until Wednesday. "Bumped"!!! Like if this was a domestic flight or a table at a swanky restaurant. (Insert bad word here!)

So, the good news: mom and the baby are healthy and will be ready to go very soon. The bad news is that we have to wait until 9/12 (unless the kid decides that she's coming out, regardless.) I personally would have preferred to get this done today (my wife heartily agrees), but those are the cards that have been dealt so, oh well.

(It would be somewhat weird to have the birth date be 9/11, but at this point we'll take that, too.)

I'm sure at this point, she's ready to have the baby whenever...the sooner the better. Yeah, hospitals are just a fairly awful place to be. Very uncoordinated. At any rate, congrats and I hope you have a very normal baby and the pregnancy is uncomplicated.

Charlesx: You don't understand! The baby is staring at me right now! She's coming out!
Hospital: We understand sir. We apologize for the inconvenience in making you wait. Would you like a complementary bag of peanuts?
Charlesx: No, I'd like some medical attention for my wife!
Hospital: Sir, getting hysterical isn't going to make us move faster. Sit down.
Charlesx: But my wife is giving b-*BWRZAP!*
Hospital: Next!

LOL - I can totally see that happening! :p

It should be more like:

"Thanks for calling the hospital. All of our doctors are busy delivering babies right now, but your pregnancy is important to us. Please remain on the line and put us on speaker phone so that your wife can listen to the following relaxing muzak while she pushes like a Sentinel multi-attack in order to bring forth that baby!"

You know, I felt the same way when we were expecting my son (granted, it was 2002, so it was a bit more raw of emotions) but as my Mom put it to me then,

"Why? Why should something he had nothing to do with ruin his birthday? As we all keep saying, we need to take our freedom and hope and joy back from the terrorists."

Hope all goes well, charlex. And if your baby is born on 9/11; remember that with birth, all things are possible; and with it, hope. Hope for a better tomorrow.

Hi all,

Just taking a moment to share the joyous news before I head back to the hospital.

Madelyn Sofia (Maddie) was born on 9/13/07, at 1:51am, in Holy Cross Hospital (Silver Spring, MD.) The baby weighed 8 lbs 3 oz, measured 20" in length, and is as happy and healthy as a newborn can be. Photos will be forthcoming. Mom and baby girl are doing well. Dad is bushed but dares not complain, given that he didn't do the heavy lifting and was a cheerleader during the whole process, mostly.

Woo hoo! (Precious sleep, thou art gone! :) )
