The New York Daily News is reported that Rick Ankiel had a twelve month supply Human Growth Hormone delivered from a doctor in Florida something in 2004. Ankiel supposedly quit taking the injections before Major League Baseball banning the substance in 2005.

Well, this helps explains his breakout this year. This is too bad. Ankiel is one of the best stories of the year; he was a struggling pitcher back in 2000, and he reinvented himself in the minors, turning himself into a slugging outfielder. He has played eighty games in the majors this year, and has nine home runs, twenty-nine runs batting in, and his slugging percentage is over .700.

The papers show he had a year supply when it wasn't banned by MLB. Nothing says he used it afterwards. If a supplement isn't banned, it is available for use.

Typical story of trying to tear down a feel-good story.

Armac is right. Technically, Ankiel did nothing wrong. He took a supplement that was allowed by both MLB and all levels of the US government. He even stopped taking HGH before Major League Baseball banned it.

However, in the mind's of the fans, this story still puts an asterisk next to the stats he has put up this year. I think that's how it will always be with baseball for a long time.
