I listen/like all sorts of music - anything that sounds good to me. I don't like much rap that's on the radio, I like more hip-hop that you don't hear much of. If you like hip-hop or even rap go buy the new Kanye West CD Graduation, it's amazing. It's top 10 hip-hop albums I've ever heard, go to your local best buy and spend the $10 for it, it's well worth it.

I would imagine I'll pick it up at some point.
Whilst we're on the point of hip hop albums, the new Common album is good but not as good as Be.
I'm still waiting to get a copy of the new Talib Kweli CD. Looking forward to that.

If I ever spend money that goes to Kanye West, please hit me in the head with something heavy.
Oh...and I'm moving this to the music forum. ;)

He does need to learn not to talk, but the music he makes is crazy. He makes such innovative stuff that is mainstream.

Bingo. I personally have a big problem seperating artists from what they do, and how they act. :ermm:

I don't. I think people who judge artists work by their personality too much are kinda annoying. (Not saying you are, but just in general)
Is thia thread for album reccomendations? Or just you telling us to buy Kanye West.
Anyway..
Everyone should own Homogenic by Bjork. It pwns every other album by a fair amount.
EDIT: Oh, this is in the Hip-Hop and Rap forum.. whoops.
Not really my thing at all. Well, good hip-hop maybe, but usually it's carp on a stick.

He doesn't make anything, he takes innovative stuff that others made and then he moves it to the mainstream by adding some Uhs, yeahs and whats. He basically makes cool mix tapes and then wrecks them by adding himself to other peoples music.
I just...umm...."Obtained" a copy of Graduation the other day, and it's really fantastic, especially his track with Chris Martin of Coldplay.

See....and I guess I just want to hear the art, and not so much the artist try to use it as a springboard to make everyone think they're so important beyone said art. Or be a lame excuse for a human. Hence why I can't stand Amy Winehouse and have no interest in ever listening to anything she does.

Well, I guess I'm different. I have Back To Black and it has some great songs, but I wouldn't not listen to it because of her problems.
Same with Courtney Love, Pete Docherty etc.

I think there's some artists that can separate their opinions from their work, and some that can't.
Kanye might not do the absolute best job of it, but I think that comes almost more from the self-inflating theme in most popular Rap/Hip-hop, but for the most part, he doesn't seem to have any of his politics in his songs, at least not to any extent where it pushes me away, and I don't agree with any of his political views at all.

Gotta say, he does that to a Daft Punk track in "Stronger" and it sounds pretty danged tight. Of course, mash-up artists generally don't post sales numbers like Kanye's, so I've got mixed feelings about it.

Yeah, Stronger wins. And hip-hop/rap is my least favourite genre.

It's this particular track that spoils it for me....same as with the Adam Levine track on Late registration.

I like Graduation alright... but for my money I'd suggest Kanye's College Dropout.
I still think it's his best album but that's just my opinion...
There just different phases of the same artist. If forced to choose an album, I'd probably waver over Late Registration vs College Dropout. Though I wish he put the track he did with John Meyer on Graduation.

Since we we're suggesting Different artists (before the Kanye Debate) i figured I could drop some science. Like most smart people i dont buy too much into the mainstream artists. I suggest anything buy The Wu-Tang Clan (Solo Artists and Collective Group), Aesop Rock, Del The Funky Homosapien, MF DOOM, Hieroglyphics, N.W.A., Beastie Boys, and Run D.M.C.

On Wu, I would recommend any album put out by them prior to Wu-Tang Forever. They lost a lot of hunger with the amount of success they had previously.

Agreed. Their first album, and the solo ones of Method Man, GZA, RZA, ODB, Raekwon and Ghostface were great. What followed, not so much.
And to add to Schamrok's list (though I'll only give oldies): Eazy-E, MC Ren, Onyx (All We Got Iz Us, nuff' said), Mobb Deep ('till Hell on Earth), Dead Prez, Talib Kweli, and a personal favorite - 'cause he's crazy - Kool Keith.
It's been long I haven't listened to all of this, gonna make me a playlist right now. :classic:

Totally, but I'm into his whole scene.

Onyx (All We Got Iz Us, nuff' said)
I love that album. I really need to get another copy of it, as it disappeared in all my moving.
You really need to pick up:
1) DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince: He's the DJ, I'm the Rapper. (http://www.google.com/musicl?lid=sfsPtyaqD_C&aid=s5AuOC7iIAI)
(Parents Just Don't Understand, Pump Up the Bass)
2) DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince: And in This Corner (http://www.google.com/musicl?lid=ViyoZSyELB&aid=s5AuOC7iIAI)
(I Think I Can Beat Mike Tyson, The Girlie Had a Mustache, Then She Bit Me, Who Stole my Car?)
3) MC Hammer / Vanilla Ice: Back to Back Hits (http://www.google.com/musicl?lid=2_jyGqq_iGD&aid=gw3q7osDIGE)
(U Can't Touch This, Ice Ice Baby, Addams Groove, Play that Funky Music, 2 Legit 2 Quit)

Agreed, I laugh at people that say Prince is a MC. Though the song that sticks out for me is Brand New Funk, Parents is definitely the song that everybody knows.

Probably more a matter of taste on this one, but I'd say Rock the House would be my choice for a second Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince Album, strictly for Girls Ain't Nuthin but Trouble

I...I can't go with this one though. The songs were fun to dance to, but as far as owning either, I'd pass.

A suggestion for albums you must absolutely must own, if you're into or remotely curious about hip-hop; Eric B and Rakim's Paid in Full
As an alternate for the DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince albums, you could also consider picking up their 1998 Greatest Hits album. It has a wider variety of stuff, mostly re-mixed, including two versions Summertime, Men in Black, the Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme, A Nightmare on My Street, and Girls Ain't Nothing But Trouble. But, you'll miss out on some of the other fun stuff that those first two albums I mentioned had to offer.
And, as to the MC Hammer / Vanilla Ice thing ... I'll have to agree that it'd be hard to actually put money down for that album but no rap collection is truly complete without those songs.

I disagree although 8 Diagrams, in my opinion, was horrible I still enjoy listening to the other collective Albums. Another suggestion:
Wu-Tang Meets The Indie Culture (album)- On top of most of the Clan returning they have a great line up up of Underground MC's and Killer Bees.
ANY Scion Mixtapes (CD's)- you can try to contact them to get them, the way I do is The Chicago Auto Show Booth.
And Not To Forget Deltron 3030 (Album)- Del the Funky Homosapien + Dan The Automater + Kid Koala = One Computer Nerd's Dream Trip-Hop Album!
