HCRealms Mafia - JLA - Game Thread

Before we begin, let's recap the rules (paraphrased from Peers' many wonderful games):

Things to remember:
1) A full writeup of the rules can be found here (http://www.mafiascum.net/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page) This game will be more complicated than what's described there, as nearly everyone has some sort of 'special thing' about them. Doesn't mean everyone has a night power, but you never know...

2) When you vote, please do so by saying Vote: [Player] in bold. If you wish to change your vote, please say Change Vote: [Player] instead. Voting for 'Nobody' is a valid vote; if a majority votes for 'nobody' then nobody will be lynched and we'll move on to the Night phase.

3) If your role says you -may- PM me a target, you don't have to do anything at night. Even so, it'll speed things along quite a bit if you'd still just send me a PM saying "Not using my [whatever] power tonight, thanks."

4) If your role says you -must- PM me a target, and you do not? I'll pick one randomly. Or, perhaps, not-so-randomly. Don't blame me if you target someone who kills you.

5) You may NOT send a PM to anyone about this game unless your role explicitly says you can. This is cheating.

6) Do NOT edit your posts in this thread. This is cheating.

7) Please do not copy-and-paste anything from any PM I send you to the thread. This is also cheating.

8) Please do not post in this thread after you are killed. This, too, is cheating and can ruin the game if done wrong.

9) Cheaters don't get to play in any other Mafia games I run. Period.

10) Remember, it's just a game. You will get paranoid, you will be stabbed in the back by someone, you will see somebody do or say something stupid and want to smack them. Just breathe deep and relax. If things get out of hand, we do have a mod playing who will forcibly remind you to chill out if needed. It hasn't happened yet, and I'd like to keep it that way.

That is the last thing you can remember as you wake up in what clearly is the Satellite base of Justice League of America.

Something is wrong; around you are several other people, all in civilian clothes, as confused as you are.

You can't remember anything. Wait.. you, you know who you are, sorta. You vaguely remember actions of yourself in the past, but as if you're watching yourself do those acts on TV. But as for everyone else, you don't remember who they are or...

Oh My God! Is that...

You remember someone now. On the floor lies a man, with a Big Red S on his shirt. He's been stabbed, with a green blade of sorts. He's dying, he could be dead already. When you see him gasping for life, you do remember him.

His last words, "Legion ... Of .... Doom..."

Something has gone terribly a miss. His body is rushed downstairs to the lab, he's dying, but maybe if he's put under "Yellow Sun Light" he might survive.

Who's responsible for this mess? You have an eerie blood thirst about you, and you want vengeance! Someone will die for this. I guess whatever has made you forget things, has compromised your moral compass a bit.

TMNT99 is (nearly) dead. He was Superman, the Man Of Steel

Day One will end either 48 hours from now (because of the weekend), or when a majority vote is reached. With 22 players, 12 is a majority.

OK this is only the 3rd game I've played and I just got killed in the HP game.

Is there any point to a first day lynch? We don't really have any information.

Can a random lynch be a useful tool? What are the odds that we get a bad guy?

I'm just looking for some advice on the best way to proceed early, early in a game.

First day lynching is all about putting pressure on somebody. But that never seems to work here. So basically we give the Mafia a free kill every time we do a "no lynch."

I still don't understand the first day lynch pressure theory myself.

If a player's a townie they're not going to tell you anything because it would weaken the townies and their own position.

If they're a Mob member they sure as heck aren't going to tell you anything, period.

There are some game-theory analyses of Mafia games that support the first-day lynch. Basically, those look at games where there's a cop (or maybe no cop), townies without night powers, and mafia. The first day lynch either gets rid of a mafia (if the townies are lucky), or it reduces the list of suspects. It makes some sense if there are so few ways to get information. But that doesn't really apply to the various mafia games on the realms.

Also, why break tradition?

Night 1 is Over

Most retired to their rooms and some even stayed there. But one dynamic duo had a secret meeting.

"T? Is that you?" he asked at his door.

"M! You remember me as well? Wow, how's that even possible?" was the reply.

"Not sure, but my little buddy says historical records say tonight will shape the future of the JLA!"

"Look, we need to split up. I'm going to check out that raven haired beauty we met, see if I can get anything out of her."

"I'm sure you will" he said slyly. "I've got some ideas of my own." They went their different ways, one was going to try his best to shape the future, but not knowing exactly who was who, or who was in trouble, the best idea he could come up with was...

"Ok S, I'll knock on this door and run away. IF someone is up to no good, they'll think I caught them doing something and chase after me. My mom used this trick on me all the time when I was a teenager!"

"Sir, how your mind works is astounding."

And that's what he did, as he ran away from the door, he did hear foots following him, he quickly ducked into a small crevice. However followed him kept running though, and when they found somebody immediately encased them in ice. "Ooppss... oh! That's not good at all! Umm.. uh.. sorry?"

Elsewhere our impetuous young detective found himself the door of a raven haired young woman. But there was no response upon knocking. "Maybe she's up to no good," he thought, but the door looked like it had been broken into. So with a bit of panic, he went in as well, and saw the woman, lying on the floor dead, a smile on her face, permanently. A little note was lying beside her, "Sorry for crashing the party, but every party needs a pooper!"

And lastly, one man stalked through the shadows, sent on a mission. He went into one man's room. But no one was there.

"What can not be seen while alive, but will be known to all when is dead?" he asked, and pressed a button on a small device, and an imp device went off, and short circuited the suit that kept the resident "atom-sized", suddenly returning to normal size, the assailant then strangled him to death before he knew what was happening.

St - Dumas is dead. He was Wonder Woman, JLA Amazonian Princess.

Antipathy is dead. He was Dr. Ray Palmer, atom-sized JLA physician.

With 20 players left, 11 will be a majority vote. Voting will end in 24 hours or when a majority is reached.

I'll just clarify, Atom was playing the role of a Dr, although in comics he's not a proper dr, he does have advanced degrees, and holds many doctorates, and has shown basic medical knowledge

While keeping notice of those that band, it is also important to see if people start to give conflicting info when backed into a corner. It is useful to get someone close to lynching, just to get a sense of their alignment. I have no problem following the lynch trail because I know I do not have a mafia role. When trackers can't find info, the mob has to get things going. At our current rate we could lose two more good guys and still have no clue.

I'm being voted for either under suspicion of taking heat off of a possible mafia member or in retaliaion by Thawmus to get heat off of him.

Sorry to just throw a vote out without hanging around to explain. It was late last night when I posted, and after reviewing 13 pages of posts, I was ready for bed. I voted Vision based on a gut feeling, but mostly in hopes of drawing more info from someone we didn't yet know much about. If he was checking peoples' rooms last night, he must be a detective or gumshoe - Robin or Batsy maybe? If that is the case, we will need him around because I suspect the "sheriff" may have been Wonder Woman - her truth telling lasso is the only power of hers I can think to translate into a mafia setting.
As to why I wasn't in my room, I assure you that I was busy hunting mafia to disable.
That said, change vote: ABF I don't know that I find any of the accusations against him very compelling, but we are in desperate need of info right now, and a lynching is probably necessary at this point.

This seems rather fishy.

Assuming Vision's roleclaim is correct (and I don't know that it is), you've managed to out a cop/tracker. This, by itself, would not have been catastrophic if we still have a doctor or protector who could keep Vision safe.

But then, you also claim that you were "busy hunting mafia" last night. Neither of the killings seemed to be the work of a vigilante, so I assume that you meant that you were investigating people. If so, your decision to reveal your role is very suspicious.

For one thing, it makes you a target for the mafia (if you really are not one of them), and well, I can't help but think that it's odd for a townie investigator to make himself a target for the mafia. It would, however, make sense if you were mafia and, therefore, do not fear being targeted by them.

Furthermore, by stating that you were "busy hunting mafia", you can also confuse our doctor, who is now forced to decide whether he wants to protect you, Vision, or perhaps someone else entirely. It seems to me that, if anyone benefits here, it's the mafia.
